I liked the swimming pools and I liked the lifeguards were very nice and the lap pool was pretty fun and I got to swim and have fun but the only thing is that I didn't pass the test but most of the times was good I did great at the swimming lesson and graduated and the swimming teacher was nice, I wish we could come here again if we could get a chance read more

Wow! I have never been here but this employee... I think their name was ARI? They were SO HELPFUL WITH MY SWIM CLASSES and were SUCH A POLITE, FRIENDLY YOUNG PERSON. They are also SO HANDSOME and have a GREAT LAUGH. I felt SO SUPPORTED during my sessions! I also took some water aerobics classes and befriended some wonderful middle aged women named BETH and GRACE. I'm a little chlorine-head. I was on my high school's swim team back in the day. In fact, swimming's really the only cardio exercise I enjoy (besides those nifty cardio kick-boxing classes you can find at some gyms). So I thought it was a crime that I hadn't yet been to the pool that's literally around the corner from my apartment. The official name is the Evelyn Kirrane Aquatic Center, which is shared by the town of Brookline and is also used by Brookline High School (which is directly across the street) for swim team practices and meets. It's $5 for adult B-line residents, but when I arrived with a bill with my address in case they needed proof (what can I say? I take preparedness to a whole new level), I discovered that no one really checks. The lady at the desk also informed me that open swim would be ending soon, which is when they kick all the kids out. FYI, open swim is in a different pool than the lap pool, so you don't have to deal with some obnoxious kid peeing in the pool and stabbing you in the eye with one of those foamy-floaty-noodle toys. The locker rooms and the pool area were very clean, though I sort of lamented the fact that the locker room lacked one of those neat-o swimsuit dryer gadgets. There are showers and plenty of lockers available. There are actually 3 pools housed within the pool area. The largest is for lap swimming, with two smaller pools, one shallow (the lesson pool) and one much deeper (for diving, obviously). There were only 2 other people swimming laps when I got in, so I had a lane to myself, no problem. The pool was very clean, save for one mystery object at the bottom of my lane that looked very much like a chunk of pizza, but I wasn't about to dive down and find out. Clearly I'll be coming back here. $5 per visit is kind of lame, but they do offer punch cards (16 visits for $75) that I'll likely invest in. Chlorine is my new perfume again. read more

Kinda like a Volkswagen - dependable, reliable, no frills, sometimes you should squint a little while looking at it... Oh BU FitRec how much I miss you. Your pool was seriously the most beautiful chlorinated body of water I've ever had the pleasure of doing laps in. We had a good run - we met my sophomore year, and stayed together through grad school. Too bad the moment I declared graduation, you canceled all access. I kid you not - I had to make nice with the front desk work-study just to come in to clean out my locker the same day I withdrew. So armed with my new entry-level salary, I had to reassess my gym options. A pool was a necessity, machines not so much. BSC or FitRec - both out of my league and out of my way. Then I read about Adult Lap Swim in Brookline, and hooray! In terms of amenities, there are none, save the requisite shower. Sometimes a little grungy in places you shouldn't be looking anyway, but that's why I omit contacts while doing laps. Really, if Fitrec is an Aston Martin (or a trendy eco-status-symbol Prius), the Brookline pool is a VW. Good thing I'm a VW kind of girl. read more

The aquatic center is really easy to find, right by the Brookline Hills T stop, also near the bus line. It's a good sized pool and the water is clean. It was not at all crowded on the day I went. I only wish I was a Brookline resident so it would cost less. It's $8.00 a day for Brookline residents, $10 for non -residents if I remember correctly. read more

Unlike the other reviews here, my comments are as a parent for a little kid and as someone who has used the kids' pool with my little guy. I cannot possibly recommend this place. During my recent multiple visits, I found the staff to be extremely rude, very unhelpful and less than welcoming. I had a particularly unpleasant interaction with the pool manager who was arrogant and argumentative. No chance I will be back. In talking with my other parent friends in Brookline, they have had similar experiences with the staff and the way this pool is run. Ugh! Such a shame! read more

the brookline lap pool rocks! it costs five dollars regularly (they never check residency), and when the weather reaches 90 degrees, admission is free! the staff is really laid back and helpful. you pay at the desk as you enter the building and proceed into a nice big locker room. it's not as clean and spiffy as a fancy gym's but it's much nicer than my high school locker room was. there are plenty of lockers (bring a lock), changing booths, shower stalls, and high wall mounted dryers to dry your hair, swimsuit or both. change into your suit, take a quick rinse and you're ready to do laps. they do ask that women use swim caps, but being vain, i pull my hair into a bun and have never been bothered about it. during the day, you can usually get a lane to yourself but after work hours you'll probably have to share your lane with one other person. everyone is super courteous, and follow basic "lane sharing rules." the other swimmers are either kids from the high school swim team (who are fun to share a lane with once in a while because you get a real workout trying not to get lapped), or other adults just trying to get some good cardio in. the kiddos are all "contained" in the play and dive pools to the side- aside from a the occasional shrieking and yelling, you can totally pretend they're not there (i'm not a kid person!). this pool is such a great resource to have in the community- be sure to take advantage of it in the summer months. you really can't beat the free admission when it gets over 90! read more

Pros: Cheap if you're a resident Fairly clean Cons: Great place to FREEZE YOUR BUM OFF! What the heck, Brookline?! I've come year-round, the issue is the same--totally lame excuses for showers, good luck getting a warm one! Doesn't seem to matter if the place is busy or empty, the lack of hot water remains a constant. I used to turn on three diff't showers at once, then after shivering in the freezing locker room for several minutes, I'd be lucky if I could get ONE shower "warm-ish." When I was preggers, the shower situation used to give me contractions! Now that the kid's here, do you REALLY think I (or any other parents of babies or toddlers) are going to dunk the kid in the required "soap shower" before pool entry? NO ONE DOES because it would be torture! The pool, especially the shallow pool, is usually warm enough at least. read more

After searching high low for a pool where I could swim laps without having to share the lane with 7 other people or do so to the piercing screams of little children, I stumbled upon the Evelyn Kirrane Aquatic Center though other Yelp reviews. Living just over the line from Brookline in Allston, I was honest and paid the $8 non-resident price for a day pass. Although this can seem a little steep when you break it down comparatively to some gym with pool memberships, it was well worth it. I was able to hop in the pool on a Saturday and only have to share my lane with one other (courteous) patron. After a while I was all alone and had the lane to myself. I swam for 2 hours until my little heart was content and soggy, and was not bothered once. There are 3 pools: a wading/ play pool, diving and the lap pool. All are impeccably clean. There are kick boards an pull buoys available as well. It so nice to have another exercise option, and while a little expensive for a non resident, the aquatic center is definitely worth it. read more

I've been here a couple times to get my daily cardio before I decided to go to my local YMCA since the aquatic center was more expensive for me as a non-Brookline resident. It's conveniently located off of the Green C line near a high school. I've only used the pool in the mid mornings or early afternoons to avoid the rush (especially the high schoolers), and there is usually a free lane in the late mornings. Even when lanes had to be shared, most of the patrons were extremely friendly and courteous by following all the rules. The aquatic center is also very airy with lots of natural sunlight, which was a nice contrast to all the other swimming pools I've been in with minimum natural light and a dingy interior. The only con I have of this place is the shower head and the blow dryer: I understand the concept of saving water, but the shower heads are a hassle to press every couple of seconds or so to keep the water running. I steered clear from the blow dryers as well since they looked really old and outdated, but other than that this is a solid place to get your cardio. read more

As a swimming pool for the community in Brookline, Evelyn Kirrane Aquatic Center is adequate. Sure, it's not free but priced reasonable enough. Size is not huge but sufficient. It's not big Olympic sized pool, but it handles admirably for youth swim team, kids pool fun, diving practice, and the larger Brookline community. My kids and I have used the pool since they're little, and they love it. Staff are helpful. There are street parking but you'll be hard-pressed to find a spot when there is swim practice (which is five nights a week over autumn/winter and spring time) and occasional swim meets for the swim team. I just wish that it has space for even a small cafe; I'll bet it'll do quite good business. There's a big field right outside that, during warmer days, it's great for other non-water based stretching too. read more

The pool is clean and quiet. I have been swimming here in the evenings and morning. Later in the evenings have definitely been less busy. The staff have been really courteous in all interactions that I have had so far and the life guards are pleasant and attentive. For $5 a session it's not a bad deal for residents of Brookline. read more

Definitely a great resource. The only cons are that there's a non-residence fee, you MUST wear a swim cap unless you're bald, and they do not have towels available. But the pool is clean, I only had to wait 3 or 4 minutes for a lane to myself. I'll be back. read more
