E&A is about as professional and safe as you can get with an all-singles club. Advertising says this is a club to meet others for a relationship, but I have also met a bunch of really good friends and just people in general through the club. It gets me out of the house and helps stifle out some slumps of depression and social anxiety. There is a huge variety of events with no pressure to drink, find love or even socialize that much, despite it being what the club prompts you to do. If you just want to sit and listen, nobody is judgemental of that. Admission into the club is a little expensive, but despite not having a lot of money, I find that it is really worth it! You choose how much you want to spend on extras (food, drinks, etc.), which really does give a great variety. There are lots of free events and events that you get tickets at a discounted price! Events and Adventures is a great way to meet new people, make life long friends, and make your current friends jealous with all the fun stuff you're doing. I've been a member for over 2 years. When I first joined I was looking for love. I only joined for a year convinced that if I didn't meet the love of my life in that first year I would be done. The first year came and went and I met so many great people and did amazing activities that there was no hesitation in renewing my membership. My first activity was axe throwing and after that I told myself I was going to try everythin. It was fun meeting different people at different events. The people I met white water rafting were different then the people who enjoyed touring winerie. It was all fun and I grew as a person. As for finding love...that happened about 18 months in. A great friendship that grew out of the love for similar activities and great talks sitting around bonfires has resulted in me finding my person. I'm still a member, I still attend great activities that challenge me, and I have an amazing array of friends all because I took a chance and joined Events & Adventures. Be warned, they're really good at selling you the membership... then it drops off. I think I went to 5 "events" over 2 years - the last one being over a year ago - the people that go are socially awkward and half of them are "seeing" each other. When I say socially awkward, I mean you say hi and they pretty much turn away. I recommend you take the $2k membership fee an go on a cruise, you'll meet way more people and have a fun time. read more

The service sucks, the people are great. First signs of warning flags: no trial membership, you can only attend one event as a guest, there is no way to cancel the contract unless you move. Moving is only proven by BOTH State ID address change and utility bill (no accommodations during COVID either). Also, they only offered a termination settlement agreement when I was two months away from my contract ending. You can get a "settlement" rate if you sign a document that says you will not write a negative review. Cost: The initial membership fee is about 2-3K. In addition there is a $30 monthly membership fee. Most contracts are about a year. They offer a payment plan for the initial membership fee so you are paying anywhere from $100-200 a month with an $800 down payment. Most of the events are coordinated by other members that volunteer to lead events for a credit to be used for later events. When you factor in the monthly payment, ~$130 + ~$240 (one paid ~$60 activity a week - dinner out, horseback riding, etc.) = You are paying $370 a month for this service. Events: Almost all of the "adventure" events you pay for are at the same rate you would pay without the group. They advertise 1/3 of the events are composed of free activities. They don't tell you these events are free because they literally do not cost anything. I.e. walk around a lake, take a stroll, ice cream stroll (ice cream not paid for) etc. Even during COVID they would charge for online events. The camping trips were a lot of fun. It was about $400 for the weekend with two nights in a shared cabin. Again, you paid extra for tubbing, boating, and anything else outside of hiking. read more

This review is based on the "informational interview" that I received at the Golden Valley Office. Mike, the E&A representative, made me feel welcomed during the interview process. The purpose of the interview, as explained to me, is to weed out individuals that are not mentally ready or financially ready to partake in a professional event planning singles club. As a interviewee, you will take a short survey (front & back 1 page) and the representative will score you. Once they had the results - I was invited back into an interview room. The interview was a very casual environment, they offer you coffee, water and soft drinks; as the interview is very time consuming. I was asked questions about my hopes and goals in life; as it related to my career and my love life. I was asked about previous relationships and why I think they didn't work out. My social life, how I normally go out travel, met people, relax, etc. They use your answers from those questions and plug it into a formula, based on a study out of MIT, to rate your readiness to mingle. At the end of the interview process you are either offer a chance to join or excused from the interview. If you join, you are making a HUGE commitment to yourself that you want to partake in professionally planned events to get out there. This office did a good job at being professional during the 2 hour interview. I felt comfortable and the representative explained various past Club wide events - and shared photos of the events with me. They also did a good job at welcoming questions and showing the interviewee an events lined up in the local Minneapolis/St Paul area a month ahead of time. read more

Disclaimer: I am not a member of Events & Adventures (E&A), but I did engage the process and have a number of impressions of the company, it's service, and why I chose to stay away. I initially decided against writing a Yelp review until I received the attached text message cancelling my in-person interview. After the initial call, I did research on Consumer Affairs and Yelp which filled in the noticeable void of info on the website and from the call. Transparency is key and when it doesn't exist it makes you question the veracity of the sales pitch tactics and question why there is a need to be so secretive with the details. It became obvious that the company was selling an idea of easy socializing (albeit at a substantial cost) while there remained subtle underlying red flags. Any business that seems hell bent on holding you in to a contract is something to beware of. If they had any confidence in their product, that contract wouldn't exist, it certainly isn't necessary to cover overhead. What led me to write the review was the response I received from the E&A person which I've attached to this review. The passive aggressive condescension coupled with a dismissive, and arguably disdainful, attitude towards internet research sealed the deal for me. It's too bad that the mention of internet research was met with such a response. It reminded me of a response from the Owner to one of the reviews on Yelp. The Owner too was curt and dismissive of a negative review left on Yelp quickly blaming the review on opposition sabotage, I mean really, how could there possibly be a genuinely negative user review of his product? Really though, it is extremely off-putting to see the company think of internet reviews of their business as lacking any obvious principle or organization. In hindsight, the idea that I'm going to waste upwards of three hours (including driving time) to provide personal information under the guise of making sure I'm a fit is laughable. One could theorize that the "interview" is more likely a psychological ploy to assert their (E&A) opinion that you are a good fit and that you really ought to hand over thousands of dollars under a binding contract that can't be negated for any reason. The process and the plots wreaks of time share like salesmanship. Sure, Not all reviews are absolute fact, but you can read them all and reasonably determine the reality of their narrative. The positive reviews focused on having a full social calendar. There are legitimate concerns by people who were given the sales pitch only to experience something different than what was promised. If the product is so great, why is there a need to lock people in to such contracts? With so much overhead, why are customers posing as employees at times to minimize the costs associated with "putting on" the events? You're not really putting anything on by simply picking a time and place to meet and then tell people to show up and go out of pocket for an event especially when group rates aren't utilized and coordination with venues isn't likely. Hearing the stories of those who have had decidedly negative experiences that would not be possible if this "interview" and "background check" actually worked. A huge red flag for me was the highlighting of the absolute necessity to be single before you could be a part of the service. Once would think this may be a great selling point, hell if it were true it would be, but the allowable wiggle room means people getting in to or out of relationships could easily be trolling E&A events. One passing anecdote, something I sort of mentally laughed off and quickly forgot in my phone call with E&A was when we were talking about my knowledge of the company and the services it provides. I explained I understood it wasn't a dating service but then I went on to explain how the services provided here are in line with What MeetUp.com does with their free website. The person I spoke with in the phone feigned to have never heard of MeetUp.com. Would you really believe it if someone from Hardee's said they've never heard of McDonald's before? This isn't a terrible company per se but there are glaring issues. If you would like a social calendar pre-populated for you, great. If you want a warm customer service not worried about transparency, then this is not for you. If you don't mind spending a fair amount of money on a service that doesn't reflect a return on that investment in their overhead operations, then by all means go right ahead and join up. Finally, I don't mind if you read this and don't agree, it won't hurt my feelings, but do your homework, compare reviews, note the common recurring issues raised by dissenters and how the positive reviews simply like having a full calendar at the cost of the noted drawbacks. Having attended a dozen events, the primary host for our city has not even introduced himself to me, or me to the group gathered to socialize. One would think that would be his primary responsibility to encourage folks to mix and mingle, however he does not demonstrate a scintilla of social grace. Same can be said of the social group itself. Meeting up for a 6:30 happy hour? Make certain you arrive at 6:25, and are ready to order BIG FOOD at 6:29! While seated at a table where you're only able to talk with two people on either side of you, be ready to discuss primarily the weather, and not go deeper. B o r I n g. Y a w n. DO NOT sign up for this unless you are okay spending about $150 a month (cheapest membership) with a majority of events not being free. Also, DO NOT sign up for this membership unless you know that you will not be moving or switching jobs within the year of signing up. I recently started a new job working in a private school dorm, my job is 24/7 with zero days off. I contacted them asking if there would be any way I could break my contract and they do not work with you. My choices were keep paying monthly until my year is up or pay a $2000 (which they brought down to $1500) buyout fee. I honestly regret signing up for this service. I am 25 years old and all of the events I have been to have been with people primarily in their 40's or older. That is not the age group I am interested in. Not worth it... You have to pay a high monthly fee- contract for at least a year, plus additional costs for each event (unless it's free, like hiking). Events can be changed, so that swing dance you signed up for becomes bowling... and you have no interest in that, but they won't give you your money back. And refunds... well, they're not refunds, just credits to your account. They gave me the same spiel it sounds like they give everyone else... this is the opportunity to meet "high quality single people" From conversations I've heard from other members, this is not the consensus. Yes, there are decent people in the group. Yes, the activities can be fun- however I find that a lot of them revolve around alcohol. There's nothing wrong with social drinking, I've just had my share of drinking with a bunch of random strangers. When I stated I was not going on the group camping trip, one girl's immediate response was, "Oh, you don't have to worry about drinking, everyone's open to whatever, so you don't have to drink." Interesting that I didn't even mention alcohol to her as a reason for not going... That's a little telling, don't you think? They also tell you that you should let relationships develop slowly over time, but make sure you get that phone number of that person you met so you can reconnect later- you might not be at the same events. Okay... so I've been asked for my phone number by 2 guys. I'd like to say men, but... I met each of them during a day time event, and we talked maybe about 30 minutes? So here I am thinking that we could get to know each other a little better outside of E&A events... The first guy... I'll just chalk this up to being nervous and not really having experience in knowing how to talk to someone... He sent me a bunch of generic cheesy lines that made me feel like he wasn't even aware of who I was... And when I told him he was cheesy, he accused me of playing games... The other, well, he was obviously looking for a hook-up. I didn't realize this until we were half-way through our date- he was 2 hours late by the way- He blamed it on traffic- but who goes from work in Minneapolis to home in Hastings to drive back to MPLS on a FRIDAY NIGHT? And he arrived way after rush hour traffic would have been over. The next event- I saw two guys I had seen before- they were both at an event with me just 4 days prior, and I met one that same day- we had even had a somewhat lengthy conversation. The other I had talked to before and seen him several times. So- the guy I just met, he couldn't even make eye contact with me and went to sit down at the other side of the table (we were at a restaurant). The other guy- the one I had seen several times, well- i bumped into him when I first entered the restaurant. I said "hi" he didn't respond. Perhaps he didn't hear me. He turned and looked at me, I said hello again, and he just stood there, staring. I went and sat down. And, like the other guy- he went to the other end of the table without even saying hello. They supposedly do a background check on people when they first sign up- but I'm not sure they do- I have done checks for work and received a notice in the mail saying one was completed, but that didn't happen with E&A. I enjoy having scheduled events every day that I don't have to plan. It can be expensive, but most active members will tell you it's worth it. It's definitely more of a social club though! It's more fun when you go to just meet people and do fun things rather than looking for someone to date! They provide a wonderful variety and I've done/seen things that I didn't even know existed! The TRAVEL part of the club is outstanding! They charge you a different price depending on how much debt and income you report, so I am paying much more than what I found out other members were offered. I would report less income and more debt to get a better price. Do not pay upfront. They sucked me in for a whole year making it seem like it was the only option but it was not. I have no way to get my money back because I paid in advance. Definately pay monthly even if you sign up for a year so you can see if you like it and cancel payment if needed. I have not had luck finding romantic connections. Most of the people in this group are looking to make friends or find something to get them off the couch, not find a date. I have met a few members already in relationships at these events. I have a busy schedule and a close network of friends in the area, so I don't attend many events since I have more fun with my established group and activities. If you are looking for friends and something to do on Friday night it would be great, but for finding a date I think there are better less expensive options out there which would be geared for your age and career level. read more

Hello, Well it seems I will be the first dissenting voice in reviews of E&A. I am currently a member, and I love it. I have met some of the most wonderful people and enjoy many activities both inside and outside of E&A with these new friends. Yes, there are people of all ages, and many of them are between 25-35. I am not in that age range. I look forward to learning from this younger generation as we spend time sharing adventures, playing games and just talking. The price may seem a little high, but they do screen their members, and yes, the initial meeting is part of that screening. I have not felt unsafe at any event. The staff works very hard to find inexpensive and free events and even when there is a higher cost they do everything they can to make sure they are providing the best value possible. In the end, I have to say it is the people that make E&A worth the cost and the effort. I know I have made friends that I will keep for the rest of my life. It is not the only possible way to meet people, but I had tried many other avenues before I joined E&A. I am glad I joined, and I plan to stay. I hope you give it a try. I don't want this to happen to anyone else, so I'm sharing this now. I had just moved to Minneapolis, I was single, I didn't have a large group of friends up here, and wanted to get out and experience things. So I decided to give E&A a try, as I heard about it from others and on the radio. I walked into the office and the person I spoke to was really nice. She told me all about the club and what it entails; the successful marriage stories, the fun trips they take, and the fact that everything is discounted or free, per the membership. We went over payment options and I asked her questions about the founders and what they were like. From what I got was that they are good Christian people who want singles to feel comfortable meeting others and have fun doing it. Fucking sign me UP! BUT what she didn't mention was, that in order to cancel your membership, you need to either 1. Get married, 2. Move to a city without an E&A office, or 3. Die. I'm sure there are other plausible reasons for termination, but it might take an arm and a leg to get them to do it. I never went to an event, my family had tons of medical emergencies, I work long hours at work, and eventually met my boyfriend (not through the club). I called and asked to cancel my membership and that's when I found out about the hidden catches in their contract. I then asked "why does a person have to pay for a membership for singles, when they are not single and do not with to be a member?" to which the I answer I got was ,"because you signed a contract!" She literally yelled it at me, like I was stupid and seemingly like they were desperate to keep me on my payments. So now, not only do I not want to go to events, but I am giving them my money so others can take nice trips to Tahiti or take pottery classes. Not to mention, the people in the group are not all single and were much older than me. This I found out through the Facebook group you are invited to to communicate with group members. AND you are not allowed to bring your significant other, or guests to events. Only members can be included. HOW AWFUL! I am so sick from the fact that I didn't read the fine print and that I trusted these people. They are taking advantage of me and many others. READ REVIEWS OTHER THAN GOOGLE! Their advertising is false, they love to twist and manipulate, and they, for some reason, don't care about you if you've made a mistake like I did. MONEY SCAM! I can't speak to the events as I never attended one. I am simply here to talk about the process of getting "out" as a member. Due to changes with my work schedule 2 weeks after I signed up and without ever attending an event I am no longer able to attend the events as they have them setup at times that I working or with my son who I have part time. Cancelling is hard if not impossible through the company. I had to call 3 times to even speak to the 1 person out of Seattle that handles cancellations. She refused to do any form of refunds even if you haven't used the service which I was fine with since I was technically a member during that time period and could have used the service. Now to the scammy part... E&A won't let you out of the initial membership "cost" of $1900 or whatever it is for 1 year. I am on hold right now with the bank placing a stop charge against E&A as I would rather there "contact" go to collections instead of continue to charge me for a service that I don't use. They will not cancel the contract under any circumstances. Which mind you is their right but is just scummy and not the mark of a good business providing a subscription based service in my opinion. Basically it works like this. You have 3 days to cancel if not "f you pay me" as they say in Goodfellas. You will be on the hook for the initial cost no matter what. The kicker is this you have to pay to attend most events on top of this and you also have a "monthly due" to keep your membership active. In other words you are paying just for the "privilege" of access to the club on top of everything else. The monthly fees if you didn't pay the full amount up front is a combination of the monthly dues to keep your membership active (this charge never goes away and is $30 a month from what I remember) with the amortized initial "yacht club" style fee. I highly suggest that if you go to E&A and are considering membership that you don't sign up on the spot as I did. I fully admit that I got caught up in it and was excited as single guy to have a place to go and mingle etc. The price seemed fair at the time as I expected to be getting value for value. When that changed and I attempted to leave is when it got ugly. Again I can't speak to the quality of the service as member as I never was able to use it due to changes in circumstance. TL:DR Don't bother with E&A if you want something you can easily cancel and are ok with the price. Highly suggest not signing up on the spot and taking a day after getting "the pitch" to mull it over. Look over the contract fully if they will allow you to take one with you and know exactly what you are getting yourself into. read more

SCAM. I'm not a member of Events and Adventures, but I want to share my experience with the "interview" and initial joining process I had. I signed up for more information online, and was told I needed to come meet in person to do an interview. When I got there I had to fill out a form so they could learn more about me, and then meet one on one with sales specialist. The "interview" seemed harmless enough, with him just asking me about myself-what I do for fun, why I was interested in joining, and why my last relationship didn't work out... Once the interview was done, he said that he absolutely 100% recommended me for the club, which is very exclusive. I asked about pricing, and he then called the woman in charge of sales into the room. She went over the membership package options and they were OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. I'm talking thousands of dollars just to join, PLUS whatever the events themselves cost. No wonder they don't list any prices on their website. Not only was I in shock of the price, but this lady would not leave me alone. I understand she wants to sell her memberships and probably works on commission, but I have never felt so disrespected and uncomfortable in my life. She even asked if I was uncomfortable with the price, and when I said yes she tried to make my response seem invalid. I asked if I could think about it for a day or two, to which she promptly replied "No because if you don't sign up right now, you won't get the free upgrade and then you'll never come back." She was so incredibly rude. Because I'm bad with confrontation and I was under extreme pressure, I agreed to put a charge of $400 on my credit card. However, in the contract I made sure that it was written that I "have 24 hours to cancel this membership." I called headquarters the next morning as soon as they opened (11am PST) and told them I wanted to cancel. They transferred me to someone else, and then eventually the crazy lady from Minneapolis called me and said it was taken care of and it would take a few days for the charge to leave my credit card. WRONG-I had to call the Minneapolis location AND the headquarters before I could actually get in touch with anybody to discuss my cancellation. They talked to me like I was an idiot and had no idea what I was talking about. I called and emailed the person they referred me to 4 times before getting any response; it was extremely unprofessional. At last I got a hold of some girl and she said "I had no idea I was supposed to be calling you" and once again she didn't even know what was going on. She then 'cancelled' my membership and said that she was going to expedite the process of my refund. It was almost a month later, AFTER talking to that last girl, that the charge was taken off my credit card. If it hadn't come off, I would have sued them. Basically I had an absolutely horrific experience with Events and Adventures and I strongly urge anyone without an extra $3,000 not to give them the time of day. read more

My personal experience and my personal opinion. This is a company that just wants ALL your money. They have a 2 year contract and they have no cancelation policy. I met someone, not thru this, after I had been signed up for 2 months. They will not return my phone calls or emails. They just keep taking my money. I thought about it and I should have known better. The online dating sites I had looked at had 1, 2, 3 or 6 month contracts because they EXPECT you to meet someone. If a company has a 2 year agreement and no cancelation policy they really dont expect you to meet someone. So then what's the point? Whatevery hobby, sport, thing you enjoy go do that to meet people. When I tell my friends that i'm a part of E&A, they are all skeptical like, I thought it was like a dating service where everyone is going to be hitting on you all the time and its like speed dating or something. That is absolutely not the case. It is just a bunch of wonderful people who want to get out and have a good time. If you hit it off with someone, great! If you don't, you are still spending time with great people who want to be out and try new things, which I feel like a lot of us want to do but don't have an outlet to do it through. Our coordinator is planning 4-5 awesome things to do in the cities each week and there is always something going on. I've met many friends through E&A that I hang out with outside of the club now as well. Although yes, lets be honest, you are going to pay for it, its not a free ride, but it is the best place I spend my money every month. I have gotten to do karaoke, weekend camping trips, brewery tours, trips to the zoo with 20 people (which was awesomely hilarious that 20 of us were hanging at the zoo with all the children and their families, I loved it!), comedy shows, outdoor volleyball nights, hanging out playing bingo with great people, trivia, the dance mile, etc. I mean the list goes on. There is always something to do and you will be doing it with a group of people who WANT TO BE THERE! Which is not always the case with my personal friend groups. The new event coordinator Chloe has been planning fantastic calendars and i'm always so excited about what is coming up the next month. It doesn't matter if your shy or the life of the party, there are people in E&A from all walks of life and different personalities and I always feel welcome. We love new members and meeting new people! I know I seem like i'm really selling it right now, but that's because honestly, joining was the best decision I've made in a long time. I moved back here from college and had a few random friend groups, didn't get out and do much exploring of the city and since I've joined I have felt like I'm never short on something fun to do and have made more friends then I could have imagined when I joined. Take a leap of faith, its worth the money, not every event will be your cup of tea, but give it a shot and you will be surprised how much fun this club will bring into your daily life. Get past the initial interview and first few events! (referring to the other reviews here) Yes, there is an interview process, but that's how they make sure the people that are joining this group are real, down to earth, quality people and NOT people who just want to hit on you all night and creep you out. I have been privileged to have been a member of Events and Adventures for over a year now and looking forward to more to come. I have made more friends since venturing out of my self induced introverted days just focusing on work and doing things alone. Now, with being able to do Sky Diving, Hiking, Kayaking, sports events, wine tasting, camping and so many other events that I would never have thought to do like wallyball, pickleball, paint and wine, etc. I have had the opportunity to meet some great ladies and relearn the dating scene. While with hanging out with a group, some moments are better than others though, the good moments greatly outweigh the bad. I have memories to past a lifetime and am going to continue to make more. Don't be afraid to take a risk and do something you never thought you would. Take that first step and see what happens! read more
