Intimate with great lighting and gracious hosts. It's connected to a brewery for those who enjoy beer.

I've now seen a couple of different comedy shows at the Acme Comedy Club. I like how intimate the…read morevenue is, but some of the seats/rows are very close together. The lighting and sound has always been decent as well (not too loud or too bright). You don't get to pick your seat. It gets assigned after you pick up your ticket and check in. They will take in your preference on how close you want to be to the stage (remember those in the front couple row may be picked on lol). I haven't eaten at Acme before, but I've always gotten a drink. Servers walk around during the show, so there is no need to get up and go to the bar. Which is good, because you can't get served at the bar window inside of the venue. They have brought in some comedians I've heard of before and seek out to attend and others I've never heard of before, but went to anyways and I've enjoyed both equally.

The only bright spot of the evening was our server at Stix, who was friendly, attentive, and did a good job. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The chicken was overcooked and unseasoned, and the meal was not worth the price. The comedy show was far worse. Tim Slagle's act included offensive jokes about women, LGBTQ+ people, and Somalis that were misogynistic, racist, and homophobic. Instead of being entertaining, the performance was mean-spirited and uncomfortable. We got up and left before the show ended, and we weren't alone. Hearing from staff on the way out that this is how he performs every time was especially concerning. Since Acme continues to book him, it's fair to assume they are comfortable associating their brand with that type of material. This was my first visit, and it will definitely be my last.

Seems a missed opportunity for revenue. I know we would have imbibed beyond the first round we bought ourselves on the way in. Then there was the show, "Hypocralypse Now", which was amusing in spots but never exceeded expectations. Good, not great. I would compare the place to Second City in Chicago, in terms of ambiance and atmosphere, and Second City doesn't always hit a home run either. This was fun, and we loved all the taunts of the current vile administration, but perhaps MAGA is too easy a target.

Oh, it felt good to laugh ... and laugh ... and laugh some more. The talented and creative actors made it easy, giving their all to the audience in song, dance, costume ... you name it and they brought it. The theater is on Hennepin Avenue, a black room with seats and tables surrounding the stage. There is an elevator, a large staircase bathrooms for men and women, and a small bar before you enter the theater. A lovely space for a show and relatively easy to navigate for food, parking, etc., even with a stroller (this is NOT a kids' show) or a person using a walker or wheelchair.

This a review for the Improv Classes only. This is my story. I signed up for the Improv 101…read moreclasses. This was all new to me. Thought it would be fun. I live in the rural area outside of Minneapolis, so I drove 40 minutes to enjoy fun and create comedy with other non-comedy people. Other average people. Not what happened. Let me explain... This is all new to me. So, during one of the warm-up exercises. It was the one-word poem exercise. Sounds cool. The fours words leading up to me, were, "The"..."Cows"... "Were"... "Making"... Which then left me to think up a word that kept the poem alive... I picked the word "Whoopie". The room stopped. 3 to 4 people in the group, which told me that the word Whoopie was inappropriate, and I needed to change the word choice right away. They all had urgency in their voices... I was taken aback... What? My word "Whoopie" caused you to stop everything? I was only doing what felt natural. I was told by 4 people that my improv was wrong. I needed to change my word choice. WTF? Really? Whoopie? Woke people are everywhere. They stand and make you feel shamed into thinking just like them. No more free expression. All this shaming because of the word Whoopie? If you're thinking of taking Improv classes at Comedy Sportz. Read what I've experienced and go if you want. I'm totally off this group. Nothing personal Comedy S, your people are too judgmental of everyone outside their circle. I said the word, WHOOPIE? REALLY? I'll keep telling everyone how your people shamed the heck out of me that night at class. I'm hurt. TD Riggs Comedian. P.S. I did talk to the class teacher later during break. He didn't seem to care. The second half of the class, those same people talked comedy about mating with animals and breeding to make animal children. What? Bestiality is OK, but Whoopie isn't? Run far away from the hypocrisy of these classes, less you want to become them. lol. Hated the feeling they gave me.

The GM came out to address us not abiding to the 2 item limit - very unprofessional (PARKER - wrote his name so sloppy was probably drunk as well) very rude and condescending, he made several excuses for his under the influence employee ignoring us.. but stood on having to buy 2 items or leave. Mind you the kitchen was closed at this point. We are almost an hour into the show. I told him i'm not buying anything after being ignored for an hr and also asked if he wanted us to chug 2 drinks w/ less than an hr left of the show and having to drive home. He suggested we buy 2 bottles of water - each. ABSOLUTELY NOT SPENDING A DIME.. or penny here. After some back and forth about it he said he can offer comp tickets to any other show - WHY THE F would we come back again?! Definitely putting the wrong people in management. The point was we were ignored over an hour, there's nothing you can do for me at that point. I'd never sit at a restaurant over an hr with no service and still spend my money there. It did escalate to security coming to kick us out. Thats where the employees showed their true colors. Just trashed. Yelling despite a show going on. Going back and forth OVER the GM. Just disgusting behavior from GM to drunk servers to drunk host. Hard pass on any show being hosted here.
