Rick understood my needs and was able to suggest styles of sandals, shoes, and sneakers based on my issues. He was very patient with all the shoes I tried on (I think I was there for an hour and a half). When we finally found a pair of sandals that fit, there was an area with stitching on the inside that irritated my foot, but he was able to take it to the back and smooth it down. After measuring my feet and looking at the shoes I was wearing, my excellent salesperson immediately suggested another brand, Saucony. And brought out my size of that as well as a couple sizes of Altra, and later a sales priced pair of Brooks. I decided the Saucony was sufficiently more comfortable to be worth the higher price, once he had also sold me on getting new inserts that were shallower near those toes. I've now walked 4 miles in them a couple times, just walked a couple, and I love them -- if I'd been wearing the Brooks, I would have soreness in the toes about now.
