There was one other customer in the store and two staff - I worked with Joseph Maiden (District Manager) and I'm SO glad that I did. He was patient, asked questions, and provided me with exactly what I was looking for, plus an extra pair of sandals that fits like a dream. They have a very good selection of comfort shoes...which is great for those of us who have painful feet. The salesmen I have had have been knowledgeable and helpful. Last time I went in I needed to use the ladies room as I had been out for several hours before getting to this store. The salesman allowed me to use their bathroom which was very clean. I bought 3 pairs of shoes there since last February. Although they are expensive, I am grateful to find shoes that accommodate my foot issues. I also purchased a pair of their over the counter orthotics. The salesman showed enormous patience in finding something comfortable. I noticed another customer who was there and tried on at least 8 pairs of shoes and left without making a purchase. There was no pressure to buy, which is nice. It was recommended by the Springhill store to check this location out as they may have more stylish options based on what I was looking for. Definitely WILL NOT return. Customer Service was completely opposite compared with the Grayling at the Springhill location. Didn't get her name but I believe she maybe the owner. Tall brown skin full figure mature women that was so RUDE. She refused to help me in selecting shoes or trying anything on. Only told me (in the most rude manner) " I can come back in two days cause they just got shipment but she's not putting it out, her husband will do it". With that kind of attitude she certainly WILL NOT get my business. If I could give -1 star I would. Grayling at 3840 International Drive Silver Spring, MD customer service is EXCEPTIONAL. He's so patient, knowledgeable, and will measure your foot on a digital foot machine to ensure proper fit and comfort. I did not see this machine at the Rockville location. Called back an hour or so later and told them we couldn't get in this week, so please credit the charge back. Salesman said fine, no problem. On day 6, we called and salesman remembered the order and assured us the credit had been processed by him and we'd see it in a day or two. Its day 9 and still waiting for the credit. Called my bank, no evidence of credit in the pipeline. Today called CO and apparently the finance office aka dude with abacus, was sitting on credits while something in the framastat was broken blah blah blah. They ran it manually today. They knew for 9 days they had a broken framastat. They could have run it manually on day 1. They are at best woefully incompetent, Salesman tried to take the fall. Offered gift certificate. I joke with my husband that some people collect stuff to dust, while I collect shoes. But as one ages, foot problems develop. When I walked in to Comfort One, I told Joseph that I was bummed to be there because I don't want to wear ugly shoes due to plantar faciitis. He steered me to the pretty shoes - which were also suprisingly supportive and comfortable! Joseph really knows about foot problems and the brands he carries. So no more buying cheap, cute shoes at Marshalls. Yes, the shoes at Comfort One cost more but they are well made and have helped with my heel pain. Can you find some of these brands online for cheaper? Possibly. But I don't want to deal with having to return shoes that don't fit well. So now - fewer new shoes but better shoes. Joseph, the general manager, was SO friendly during my visit to find sneakers with arch support. Joseph first scanned my feet then recommended a pair of sneakers for me. He patiently answered my questions and gave me tips on how to look for the right shoes for my feet. He was very knowledgeable on all things related to safe and healthy walking. They have a 30 day return policy so I'm now wearing my newly bought sneakers at home to see if I want to keep them; they feel great so far though! Joseph also recommended me to purchase sneakers a half size larger because we wear socks with sneakers and our feet flatten out more when running. read more

I purchased a pair of boots in the DC store last week and that very night found them online for half the price. That happens, so no big deal. When I went looking for the Rockville store to return the original pair I didn't know the name of the shopping center, so I called the store. I didn't know the names of the stores the clerk supplied and kept asking what big store was nearby. After three wrong guesses on my part ("Is it the one with Trader Joe's? Is it Pike & Rose?", etc), he said to me, "Boy, you don't get out much!" I replied that I'd grown up in the area (what I didn't say was that perhaps they're located in a second or third tier strip...). He kind of said, "Oh...". When I did find the store tonight and went in, I was chatting with Toe Knee and joked about always finding something else to buy when I return something..."You know how that goes..." I said. He didn't, because he said he's never returned anything. NEVER. I told him I'd found the shoes for half the price online and he started talking about people who buy things and keep looking, only to return them, blah blah blah. By now I realized he was a rotten customer service representative and abandoned my shopping just to get the hell out of there. When I inquired about trying a floor model on, as they were all out of one particular size, they refused to look for the shoe mate in the back or let me try on the floor model for sizing (even with a ped). I had a horrible experience at this location. I saw a podiatrist who told me I needed shoes with arch support and gave me a list of brands to look at. I went into this store location to find some Vionic shoes because I was leaving on a work trip the next day, and the store employee took my list out of my hand and started crossing things out. She told me that she knew more about my feet than my doctor, and that I needed to see her before my appointment with my doctor. Said my doctor's recommendations (all brands that are recommended for people with plantar fasciitis) were going to harm my feet, and my doctor wanted that so I would keep going back. I was overwhelmed and stressed, so I let myself get talked into spending $200 on compression socks and shoes that were comfy but completely wrong for my foot issues. I left the store crying because I was so confused and overwhelmed. Couldn't even bring the shoes on my trip. Later I returned everything to the Bethesda location, which was much nicer and actually had what I was looking for. This store was the worst shopping experience I have had at any store in years. Clearly the sales lady just pushed me into the foam shoes because she didn't have what I needed in stock, and I didn't have time to go to another store before my trip. $200 is a good sale if you get commission or want to hit your numbers before the store closes. If I could give this store 0 stars I would. I just wanted to find some comfortable boots and maybe slip resistant dress shoes. I went in and was greeted. I tried to just get my size in a pair of boots. I went through this really bizarre foot analysis. Then as I was waiting for the salesman to get boots for me, I was browsing the Hoka shoes. No shoes had prices on them. When I asked why, the other salesman started talking about a lack of a label maker to price shoes. He said he had prices memorized and could just tell me. I felt really uncomfortable with the whole feel of the store and told them so as I left. My advice is to know that this store is really not for regular shoe buying but for people with foot issues. I was thoroughly pleased with my experience at the Rockville Location thanks to Phillip (in July). Though they did not carry the Gizeh Birkenstock sandal in the color I wanted, he was offering similar shoes after I told him I was looking for a sandal that would hold up on an international trip in a hot climate. He showed me Naot shoes, but was not overly pushy about it, which I appreciated. I was also impressed that he gladly showed me what I could do to preserve the quality of the Birkenstock Shoe , even though the shoe was 2 years old and filthy! Philip tried to find every shoe that I would have liked, but some were just out of stock. He was quite patient with my needs, and I was again happy -- this is how customer service should be. The store is also tidy. The shoe I walked away from the store with was NOT the one I wanted, but it was so cute to pass up, and it was on sale. I am very happy with this shoe, called the Gail, a leather flat shoe, by Lemon n Lime (made specially for Comfort One Shoes), and walked around Cambodia and Thailand with them on for 3 weeks straight. They are comfortable, take not even 5 minutes to break in, and look nice with a dress, or with shorts just doing some walking. They don't offer as much support as Birkenstocks, and don't have cushion, but it was still comfortable and did not come off my feet until the end of my journey. They also hold up really well to such rough traveling (including rocky Angkor Wat and sprawling Bangkok!) I am very happy with my shopping experience at the Rockville Comfort One Shoes, like many of my other visits. and I hope I can wear these shoes for many years to come! read more

When asked, she advised me honestly in the appropriateness of both the fit and the look for me. She understands balancing a good look with the greatest amount of comfort. I enjoyed her thoroughly. I even asked her if she knew anything about some recently developed irregularities in my toes and she guided me toward solutions. I have purchased shoes from Comfort One Shoes in Rockville on several occasions, totaling 5 or 6 pairs. I've spent $1500 or so in total. Disappointingly, after my last visit, I won't be going back to this particular store due to the poor customer service. This last time, I bought a pair of boots. They were tight when I purchased them, but the salesperson advised that I wear them for a while and see if they stretched naturally as opposed to putting them in the stretcher, in which case they might stretch too much. He said I could bring them back in anytime to be stretched. They were really hurting my feet, so several weeks or maybe it was a month later, I took them in to be stretched. There were two salespeople and two customers in addition to myself. I waited a few minutes, and then one of the salespeople (I think the manager???) took my shoes and put them in the stretcher. I waited 15 or 20 minutes for them to stretch, and then took them back and left. They ended up tightening again, so a month after that, I went back again. It was the same situation the 2nd time - two sales people and two other customers. I waited 5 minutes, and then the same salesperson as on the previous visit came to ask what I needed, and I said I wanted my shoes stretched. He said they were busy and he advised me to come back another time. He said other people bring a second pair and leave the shoes overnight for them to stretch them. Since I had driven 30 minutes to get there - 60 minutes round trip - I didn't want to leave them and then have to spend another hour coming back to pick them up, which I probably wouldn't have time for again for another month, which would leave me without my primary shoes for a month. So I asked if I could just wait, and he said yes. So I continued to stand there, browsing e-mails/internet on my phone. 5 minutes or so later, he came back to take my shoes, making some catty comment - I don't remember exactly what - but it caused me to snap back saying all I wanted was for him to put the shoes in the stretcher. I sat down to wait. The second sales person finished with his customer 10 minutes later and came to talk to me. He said the shoes usually stretch for 10 minutes, and I said ok, it's been about 10 minutes. But then the salesperson who had originally taken my shoes told him not to go get them because he wanted to talk to me. 10 minutes later, he finished with his customer, and came to complain to me. His complaints: (1) He said I was hovering when I was standing there browsing my phone instead of sitting down. Keep in mind this is a TINY store - about 10 strides in each direction. I was not looking at them. I was not on top of them. I was simply standing and working on my phone. (2) He said other people call in advance before coming. Well, I certainly would have been happy to do that IF the original sales person and he himself the previous time I was in had told me I needed to do that. (3) He said he remembered when I had come in for the stretching the month before, and that they weren't busy that time. Actually, the first time was the exact same situation as this time in terms of # of salespeople and # of customers. From my perspective, it takes 30 seconds (or more like 10) for him to put my shoes in the stretcher. He had walked into the back area multiple times to get shoes for his other customer. How difficult is it for him to take my shoes at the same time and pop them into the stretcher? Yet, he complained and complained and complained. Seriously? He wants me to drive an extra hour because he can't take 30 seconds out of his day? In short, we got in a fight about it, and I said that if I have to drive an extra hour simply because he won't take 30 seconds to put my shoes in the stretcher, then I will simply buy my shoes elsewhere. And he said that was fine with him. So no surprise when I come onto Yelp to write this review and discover a multitude of bad reviews from other people about the customer service in this store. One of the other reviewers mentioned another store with high quality shoes; I will check out that place next time. I do give two stars in this review instead of one only because I really do like the shoes that Comfort One carries. In short, they're comfortable. It's a shame that the service doesn't match the shoe quality. read more

I had a great experience last night at the Comfort Shoes on Rockville Pike. Tony, the salesman of over 30 years, was juggling four or five customers like a pro. With DSW, Zappos and Amazon, I'm shocked people even use shoe stores anymore. Tony is a dying breed. He knows his stuff, giving me a verbal diagnosis of a foot issue I've also received from a podiatrist. After explaining that I work on my feet 10+ hours a day, he talked me through some insole supports and recommended I change sock material. These were up sells, but he suggests this in such a helpful way, it feels like genuine advice! Some of the other comments about aggressive sales and "strange responses" are due to Tony's very dry sense of humor, which I appreciated. I spent over 45 minutes in the small store, (roughly 10 times the time I've ever spent at DSW), and walked out with a plan and some really great products. Tony put support insoles in my old, terrible sneakers, and they actually felt like I was wearing brand new shoes for the rest of the day. Did I spend 3x what I normally spend on a pair of shoes? Yes. But, do I feel like I have a better understanding of how shoe supports can make a difference on individual feet? Yes! And I have all the confidence that these shoes are worth every penny. Joe was rude, unkind and verbally chastised me when he told me that I was one day late on returning the shoes. My mother, who does not drive was unable to do it herself, and asked me to do it. My sister had raved for 2+ years about the Rockville store and the shoes. After seeing her shoes last and last, I decided to treat myself and my feet to a better quality shoe. I had a wonderful experience and Chris did a fantastic job in fitting my feet (of course I had been wearing the incorrect size for years). Chris listened to both what I wanted the look to be and how each pair I tried on felt. I purchased 1 sandal and 1 athletic pair. The first time, the salesman was very engaging and attentive...and sold me shoes that were the wrong size (I have short, wide feet and his mistake was selling my shoes that were longer. My mistake was buying them, but he was very persuasive.) The second time, the salesmen there couldn't have cared less if I got what I needed and were more interested in talking to each other than serving clients. The fellow who finally worked with me seemed so bored with his job I wanted to encourage him to quit! I left there and went to Foot Solutions in Bethesda. I'm usually a fan of this chain, but the service in this store is an unfortunate combination of neglectful, stupid and arrogant. The sole salesman took umbrage at having to actually retrieve my selection and then proceeded to ignore me in favor of four other customers, three of whom arrived after I did, and the fourth who sat waiting at least 30 minutes until he deigned to answer her questions. Went into this store to reorder shoes that are super awesome....went in........ordered the shoes with the GENERAL MANAGER....he said he had 2 in a warehouse and that he would order them and have them in a couple days....we left....its been over a week and a half....we have called twice 1st time the guy said they were with a shipment that came in, and that he would call us back....never did....then we called back today 9-17-2014 @3:15PM and the DISTRICT MANAGER (MICHAEL) answered the phone....he had NO idea where our order was.....then took my number and said he would look into it and call me back.....when he did, he was rude, and made it out that we were the issue not them....took no responsibility for anything....did not care to want to fix the situation other than tell me he couldn't tell me anything and they have been busy opening two new stores....so that is why there are so many issues????.......just rude....... DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE FOLKS......you will not be happy, as the rest of the reviews can clearly show you.....I can only imagine if MICHAEL is the DISTRICT MANAGER then WOW...I can't even imagine what the CORPORATE OFFICE runs like!!!!!! I am shocked to see so many bad reviews of this places. Perhaps it is from a different time because what I got was excellent service. I walk in and I was immediately greeted by tony (Toe Knee). He used some machine to determine my foot size/pressure zones and overall, determined what shoe I needed. He was very clear every step of the way and took the time to answer all my questions. I left with a quality pair of shoes that not only fit perfectly but, where comfortable. Is this the cheapest place to get shoes? Nope. Does the main salesman have a wierd way of spelling his name? Of course, but what you get is world class customer service and shoes that are guaranteed to be some of the most comfortable you've ever worn. I was hesitant to shop here because of the negative reviews, but I had a great experience. Customer service was excellent, despite the store being pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon. Chris took excellent care of me, even though there were only two salespeople and he had to help other customers during my time there. Tony (Toe Knee) goes out of his way to ensure that the shoes I selected were the best fit for me, even to the point of suggesting a better size than the one I thought I needed. Since I stand on my feet all day, comfort is paramount to me. His suggestions were perfect. In addition, he fitted my friend, who has significant foot problems and mobility issues with three pairs of shoes -- an unheard of experience for her, since buying shoes is always a challenge for her.
