We just moved to the state and were looking at ways to explore and this popped up randomly. We made a quick decision on Thursday to go. You purchase admission tickets online ($5 per person) and choose a time slot. The earliest time slot was the last time slot on Monday and we decided to take it. We're a family of 4 and everyone who enters has to pay admission, even if you don't pick. I'm not sure if this applies to infants/babies, of which I saw a few. This place is located just outside of Princeton and I'm not sure how many people they let in per time slot but it was crowded, though not overly so. There is a small road (don't go fast or it's easy to miss) and the driveway is small too. It's not a legitimate parking lot but you basically park wherever you find space in what is essentially the front yard. There was a bit of a struggle at one point with people wanting to park versus leave/back up at the same time, but it's doable. We later discovered there is another parking area a little further down the road... or at least we spotted people parking there and walking over. There were no signs about additional parking. You walk in and someone checks you off on their list. You'll get these paper "tickets" and are pointed towards buckets with bags in them and, if there's one available, there are wagons to lug your pear buckets around. The lady was nice enough to grab a wagon that some older kids were playing with and I lugged my kids around in them along with a bucket. They didn't really say much so we just observed at first. They open two rows of pears and there are ladders scattered down each row for your convenience. The place was crawling with people, a vast majority Asian. A few were munching on pears, which you aren't supposed to do unless it's from their tasting station. When we went, they were completely out of their hybrid and hosui pear varieties - not that I knew the difference - so they only had apple pears left. Most of them were round and ripened to a yellow/golden brown but some of them had a funny shape that reminded me of apples. I was a little disappointed that they were already out of the other pear varieties when it's only been 4 days; I had hoped I'd get to see them all. As I mentioned, there's a table where the people peel and cut up pears for you to sample. These were pretty sweet and pretty much tasted like the "Korean pears" you can get at the market. With the exception of one piece (out of 3) that I tasted that was on the tart side. The rules that I came up with is the ripe pears are the ones that are a ripe brown color and the higher they are, the more ideal. It's easier said than done because with the natural light that filters through, shadows, and sun rays that go into your eyes when you look up, everything sort of looks brown. Then you pick it (you don't need anything but your hand as they sort of twist off) and realize it wasn't as brown as you thought. We filled up about half of our bucket since it was only us and we didn't want to buy so much and have them spoil. Most others filled at least 1-1/2 buckets. These are sold by weight at $4.50/lb. Our half bucket was about $37. The party in front of me with their 1-1/2 buckets full paid about $125. The line to pay probably took the longest. They also sell chestnuts ($7/lb) as well as some other fruits. All in all, we were there for just about an hour. It was an interesting experience! I'm not a huge fruit person, but I do enjoy Asian pears. Ironically, my kid who loves fruit does not like these pears but my picky kid loves these. We've eaten a few of the pears at home by more and size doesn't mean anything. They're quite sweet and juicy! I think it's a pretty fun experience, especially if you're guaranteed almost all of them will be good. Are they cheaper than the store? No. But if you buy over $50 worth, you'll be credited your admissions cost. I just wish they had all the varieties. A solid place for a fun experience and delicious fruit!

It was $20(Kinda Pricey) for entrance but it includes a good amount of things to do. I added a picture that lists what all is included. When you arrive, there's a hay ride that takes you to the festival from the parking lot! Very kid friendly and lots of photo opportunities. My favorite part was the corn maze and the pumpkin patch. There are a few things that aren't included in the price. I saw a pumpkin cannon launcher that was extra and it was pretty cool to watch! The food isn't amazing and a bit pricey but it's to be expected really at something like this! They had BBQ, lemonade stand, funnel cakes, Playa Bowls and one of the food trucks had seafood. Over all a good experience to visit once a year with larger group on nice fall day, support your local farms and farmers!

Bring cash, they are cash only. $20 per person to get into the fall festival, there's usually a line because everyone wants to go, and if you forgot cash there is an ATM but the line for thr ATM seems even longer than the entrance line. Bring more than you think, it can get expensive, pumpkins are sold per pound. 2. Bring an extra bag. They do not allow large bags or coolers, however, there are food trucks, and if you'd like to purchase extra to bring home, the trucks do not have bags. It was difficult to walk around with several funnel cakes, drinks, candy apples, fried oreos etc without dropping anything. An extra bag would have been helpful. 3. Dress in layers. It gets cool quickly in the evening but during the day if it's sunny, it could feel comfortable or hot.

As it turned out, the experience could not have been more positive! It's a beautiful and well-maintained property with ample parking. The alpaca stables (males in one, females in the other) were very clean, and the 26 alpacas are clearly loved and cared for. They were gorgeous, friendly, and healthy. The staff, mostly (if not all) volunteers, were lovely, from the young adult (late teens, early 20s) guides who accompanied us on the 20-minute walk with our assigned alpacas, to the senior ladies working in the gift shop. The gift shop has a wide range of lavender and alpaca wool products, as well as related themed products. I would up spending $36 on a variety of items, some of which were perfect, low-cost gifts. In response to the TripAdvisor complaints about items being "expensive," I found the prices to be reasonable and normal for homemade, hand-made, and locally sourced items, as well as for specialty items made elsewhere. I can't say enough positive things about the guides who accompanied my friend and I on the walk, and the young man who gave the entire group on our scheduled walk the preliminary background information about the alpacas and what we might expect on the walk. They did an excellent job and were very friendly and helpful. At the end of the walk they make time for pictures to be taken, and the animals seem to know the drill quite well because they obliged without a fuss on a very hot day. Overall I give this experience a 10 out of 10 and highly recommend it for all ages.

I visited here with a group of friends to attend their annual Corn Maze. I didn't see much of the farm, but I did hear from my friend that their portable toilets were not clean. I don't like having to use those portable toilets, so I had to wait to use the bathroom later. I like how the Corn Maze has been in operation for such a long time. I like the history aspect of it, but I didn't like the exact setup. The guide explained to us that we had to collect information for trivia and history facts along the way during our experience. She explained in detail how to do this. I felt like there should be two different orientations: one for those who want to participate in the trivia, and the other for those who don't. We just wanted to run through the Corn Maze, but it was explained to us that we had to collect trivia facts and such. We had a large group, and one woman did collect the facts, and we all followed along, but I prefer to have the choice. Our actual experience through the Corn Maze was fun! It was dusty, so make sure to wear old sneakers, or be prepared to wipe off your shoes. We had fun trying to go this way or that way, and we took a nice group picture in the maze! I enjoyed myself, and while I wouldn't go back to this corn maze, I would love to check out other activities on this farm.

It was definitely worth coming here and seeing how the farmers do all the work on the property, and we learned about the history of the farm. They also showed us how to plow the fields and plant the wheat in the dirt. A couple of the employees who worked there wasn't very nice but overall we had a great time.

Really worth it!…read more So let me tell you the negatives first, some of which were covered by some other reviewers. First, there are ticks and you should spray before you start. Second, the directions to get off Route 1 to the gardens is confusing, even for someone from New Jersey who is used to jug handles, but you'll get there eventually. Third, you can hear the traffic from route 1 as you walk through various parts of the gardens and the adjacent woods. And fourth, some toilets are in sad shape. To me, no showstoppers but more you should be aware. Best thing is to print out a map of Rutgers Gardens and Helyar Woods first. It's good to have with you as you walk about although signs are about. This is a really a beautiful garden set out in a very approachable way. Well documented and you can use those maps so you can find and explore the Asian Hill garden, Holly Collection, the Succulent Gardens and, my favorite, the Bamboo Grove. All in all there are 23 gardens and 8 structures, most of which are research sites. The gardens are adjacent to the Helyar Woods. The woods has 7 viewpoint spots and 5 marked trails ranging in length from 0.4 MI to 1.6 MI. Within the forest is a forested wetland, a meadows, a pine grove and just plain old Forest. Most of the trees are old-growth beech, birch, maple and oak trees. It's really wonderful. Note the gardens are closed on Mondays.

My wife and I went on the guided tour of the barn and we were genuinely surprised on how well maintained everything was and also how well maintained the animals are. Our guides name was Julia and she was very sweet, knowledgeable and just passionate on the animals on the farm. We hope for a path of success for the farm. And we will visit it more frequently! Adorable baby goats that excitedly jump around, then cuddle in your lap as you bottle feed them is an amazing heart-warming experience! Hearing the surprisingly deep bahs of the sheep and seeing their babies pounce around their enclosures inside and outside is a treat! There are several breeds of chickens that provide the very nutritious eggs at the Country Store, and cows that soon will soon be grazing in the meadows. So much to see and do - you do NOT want to miss out on this wonderful agricultural adventure!

My sister and I visited Whispering Pines Alpaca Farm in July 2022. We were the only visitors that…read moreday, which was really nice, and we're so grateful to Danielle and Bill for sharing their farm and animals from time to time. We were lucky that the weather cooperated that day, meaning it was a perfect day to visit the farm and not too hot or humid. We visited with four Nigerian dwarf goats, 10 weeks old. They were adorable and so sweet. Danielle is doing a Hobbit and Lord of the Rings theme, which I think is great, so the goats (all male) are Frodo, Sam(wise), Merry, and Pippin. We got to feed them and pet them and just watch them being happy goats, which was really therapeutic. After that, we spent time with the alpacas. Bill showed us how to walk them on a halter. They weren't in the mood for that that day, which was fine with me and my sister. We wanted what was best for the animals. We got to feed them and hose them down a little, and we learned a lot about both the goats and alpacas. Danielle was an elementary schoolteacher, and so she's great at communication and putting you at ease. They saved the alpacas they have from overcrowded conditions, so we were very happy to hear that. Now the alpacas can spread out and soak up the open space. I looked at various alpaca farms online, and there are many. Why did I choose Whispering Pines? Because they offered the longest visit with the animals and farm in general, and they just sounded like the best. We're very happy we chose them. Rest assured, Danielle and Bill give their animals lots and lots of TLC. After visiting with the animals, my sister and I had lunch on the farm at a picnic table, relaxing in the peace and quiet, watching the alpacas and the goats. Danielle was extremely generous with her time, and so thoughtful with little touches that have a big impact and make you feel special. For example, when we arrived, there was a sign with our names on it welcoming us. At the end of the visit, we got gift bags with our names on them, thanking us for visiting. Honestly, we can't thank Danielle and Bill enough. Our visit was worth way more than what we paid in money; we have a lifetime of memories.
