I called Evergreen a couple of months ago because of a corroded, leaky pipe in the basement. Peter came by, gave me an estimate that seemed reasonable, and did the work quickly and efficiently. This was no small feat given the weird crawl spaces in my basement, that he had to crawl into in order to replace some pipes. Somehow he was amazingly cheerful about this! Of course, given my 1890 house, fixing that pipe uncovered a clog further along in the pipes that was stopping up my sink. So today James and Mason came out, cleaned it all out, showed me what the pipes look like on their very cool camera device,and now everything works like a charm. I thought the prices were very reasonable, and the estimates accurately reflected the final cost. All along, everyone I dealt with was great, from Marcus on the phone setting up the appointments, to Peter/James/Mason doing the work at the house. They were friendly, professional, explained everything, left everything neat and took care of the small details, and were very nice to and amused by my dog, who was doing his best to "help" their efforts. Haha, "help." Overall, this is now my only go-to place for plumbing/drainage problems - which are likely to be a recurring thing given the age of my house. I forget which other maintenance person recommended them, but I'm glad they did. I've had leaking pipes in the past where the leak was so bad that the water had to be shut entirely off, and the companies I dealt with then could never tell me anything more than "well, we're really busy, we MIGHT be able to get out there next week" etc. It was always nerve-wracking, calling different places to see which ones could come out first. I can't imagine that being an issue with Evergreen, given how prompt they've always been. read more

Beware and get all pricing prior to scheduling or having work done. I was charged $382 for labor on a 40 minute job for an $18 part. What's worse, is the service tech didn't understand how they did the pricing because "it is all one cost". Had I known I was paying almost $600/hr for service, I would never had agreed to it. I only found out the pricing AFTER it was installed when we asked if it was covered under our warranty, and he talked to a manager. We had Evergreen come out to give us a quote on a repair or replacement of a toilet. The technician told my wife that the toilet we had was for a pressurized system and told her about how dangerous they were and how they can hurt people. We have used this system for 5 years. He said that he could replace the entire toilet, so she tried to get a hold of me, but I was at work and not available. She felt pressured to make a decision so she told him to just replace the toilet. They then charged her almost $1100 to replace the toilet. The new toilet runs about $285 at Home Depot. Of course, later that same evening we got a quote back from another reputable company, saying their cost for putting in a new toilet was $375, which did not include the price of the toilet, which we had originally planned to supply for whomever did the work. I called and talked to a manager about the astronomical costs and they provided me with the following information/excuse for their costs. The breakdown of how they charge is as follows: 40% for parts and labor 10% for pure profit 50% goes towards operating costs such as their fleet of vehicles and advertising. So just remember that when your quote comes back to you, 50% of your quote is just to pay for their vehicles and their advertising cost and has nothing to do with the cost of actually doing work for you. I wish I would've seen the reviews about them price gouging prior to even calling them. Because I called them to question their price gouging and scare tactics, they did refund us $54.00, as if that makes up for the several hundreds of dollars they overcharged us. read more

The workers seem to do quality work, but the fees are very expensive. Beware of the inspectors/estimators that come out to inspect and provide bids; they may not be doing a thorough investigation or providing accurate information regarding your situation and the remedy. Do due diligence and get a second opinion at least. read more

Friends had gotten good service from this company, so I called them to send an estimator to look at three hose bibbs I wished replaced. First, the estimator furiously affected to not understand what I meant by a hose bibb. Then he spent close to an hour dragging me around, showing things I understood perfectly already, after 40 years in construction. I was finally quoted a price of something like $600, which I declined. I paid the $60 or whatever estimation fee and could not get him off my property fast enough. read more

BEWARE. So ridiculously expensive!!!! Had a leak under the sink and this was fixed.....$899.00 later. I was absolutely floored. Because I have been ill with leukemia...I was too weak and blown away to challenge this. The service person checked other things all over the home, even underneath the house. I said that wouldn't be necessary but was told it was part of their service. The actual repair of the leaky pipes under the sink took less than 30 minutes! DO NOT USE THIS PLUMBING COMPANY!!!!! My aunt, in her early 70s, recently was contacted by Salem city officials about a possible leak in the water line leading to her house. (At least one other neighbor received a similar announcement.) She said she called Evergreen Plumbing. An employee who said his name was "Jeff" arrived to conduct an inspection/estimate/whatever. Oddly, at least to me, "Jeff" went into her home and took note of her toilets, telling her they were "good" ones. To me, that was the first red flag. After that, apparently, he crawled under the house and inspected the plumbing under there. Afterward, he proclaimed to my aunt that she had rats under her home. He said the rats were chewing on the copper pipes, causing all sorts of issues. Is this a red flag? Can rats chew through copper pipes? Do they make a habit of chewing many copper pipes under a house at once? "Jeff" explained to her that the plumbing under her house was compromised, requiring a major plumbing overhaul. He told her that the company could repair everything, and even replace the "good" toilets with "better" toilets, all for the price of about $26.000. (She did ask him why they needed to replace the "good" toilets.) That, to me, is a big red flag. Am I wrong? Flustered and overwhelmed, my aunt initially conceded to the grave warnings and cut a check for a portion of the work. (At some point "Jeff" offered a limited-time discount shaving a few thousand dollars.) But, soon after this experience, something didn't sit with right with her, and (knowing I was at work at the time) she called my brother, a pretty darn good makeshift handyman of sorts. He convinced her that this sounded like nonsense. So, she stopped payment on that check and cancelled the repair appointment. She had to pay at least $69 for a "visit" fee or whatever. "Jeff" called and left phone messages, imploring her how grave the situation was. Going forward, my brother and I encouraged her to contact a number of plumbing companies in the Salem area to A) detect the leak that city officials warned her about and to B) fix said leak. My question to you, Evergreen Plumbing, is does this client, my aunt, sound familiar to you? If not (and you seem to be a well-regarded company with a good BBB rating), there is a rat out there who is tarnishing your name and reputation. They charge for an estimate and if you use them know that you're paying 60 to 70 percent more than some other plumbers. You very likely can get same day service, but your paying a very high price for that. read more

They did get the job done in one day but when cleaning up the job site made sure to take all the copper pipes out, but none of the cut insulation or other debris out of my crawl space, nor did they readjust the tarp for the crawl space. If you have wooden counters make sure you cover them as they scratched mine and then apologized, merely sending out a man to come apply some oil to it, it covered up the scratch for a few hours but now I can still see it. The scratch is about the size of my forearm. Lastly, if there are any plants that you ask them to let you know if they will remove, if they say they wont remove them, don't count on that, they will take them out without asking you and then replace them with cheaper twig like versions that probably cost $24 each. read more

We had a problem with roots in our wastewater line. We contacted Evergreen on a referral. They did a fine job with freeing up our line, working for about 4 hours. When they were finished, we were gone and had locked up the house. The problem came when, the day of service, we experienced a significant change in water pressure. My wife seemed to believe from her conversations with the technician that it was something they temporarily did to boost the pressure for the clean out. I contacted the company for them to come back and readjust the pressure. They came, but claimed it was a failed pressure regulator (some acronym I don't remember) and said it was not caused by them or their actions. I said it happened the day of service (acceptable pressure before and way-too-high of shower pressure after), yet was told I didn't know much about plumbing. I replied that their statement was certainly true, but that it doesn't take a genius to know when pressure jumps on the day of service. They quoted us with a $1000+ repair estimate for the pressure regulator, beyond what we'd already paid for the clean out. My belief is that they should take care of an issue if it happened while they had the "keys to the car". I called several times and left manager messages, but have not received a reply read more

I don't like writing critical reviews. That said, I feel a responsibility to warn other potential customers no matter the company being considered for potentially expensive repairs. I arranged an appointment with Evergreen to repair a leaking pipe. Within five minutes of arrival I was being pressured to authorize the repair that same day and, if fact, spend an even greater amount to replace a large portion of my system. Fortunately I managed an escape. I contacted another company whose representative took the time to determine the exact location of the leak and show me exactly what he would do to make the repair. I saved hundreds of dollars and felt I was dealing with an honest person. Don't be rushed into a repair. Always get a second or third estimate and make sure you thoroughly understand the problem and its resolution. read more

I got horrible flashbacks to Advantage Heating, where they use a "Fee for work" system to justify outrageous prices. It's a shame, and I think as the recession robs people of the money they used to have to spend on rip off contractors, businesses like this will start to struggle as people start getting more bids or just learn to do things themselves. Most home repair is actually incredibly easy, and cheap. For me, it's always been very, very cheap/easy if I just do it myself. If a buissness does not offer hourly rates, it's an extreme red flag, don't even call them out IMO And believe in yourself, if you think you can do it, you probably can! Water heater crapped out, so I start calling different plumbing companies seeing who I could find to retrofit a tankless water heater that day being I had no hot water. Made it very clear with the receptionist it needed to be done today. No problem we can have someone out between 12-2pm to get that done. Called two times 3pm and 4pm was assured the guy was coming and would still be able to get the retrofit done. Dude shows up after 5pm, and no unit with him. Proceeds to explain everything that would need to be done to retrofit from a tank to tankless system. Try's talking me out of doing the tankless system and doing some hybrid bullshit. Finally tell him I just want to know what it will cost to install and when it will be done. Quotes me 6500, I immediately told him that's bullshit being I spent all day researching/pricing while waiting. Told him I can buy the unit for 1500 and everything you explained to install doesn't cost 5 grand, why are you so expensive? Couldn't give me an answer except that's what his tablet says. Dude thought he had me stuck in a hard spot since I obviously needed hot water. Was a little shocked when I sent him on his way and went bought my own new water heater and installed it myself. This company charges outrageous prices. Shop around-- there are good guys who do not charge $70 for an estimate. Estimates should be free. Evergreen estimated well over 6k for bathroom remodel and fixing one pipe. They also thought the job would take several days, which is ridiculous. There's no way moving a few pipes in the bathroom with an exposed basement would take longer than a day, as verified by several other plumbers. In the end, we found a reputable plumber to do the work for less than $100 per hour...saving us thousands. Save yourself lots of cash and get multiple quotes-- from folks who don't charge unethical estimate fees! read more

Last night I called Evergreen to schedule an appointment to fix my clogged kitchen sink drain. Not only was the sink clogged, it backed up into the washer overflow flooding the laundry room...ugh. In spite of this, I said that my need wasn't an emergency, so the next day would be fine. Someone called me first thing today to schedule the visit. Would between 10:30 and 11:30 work? Well yes indeed it would. I was then told that the plumber would be James (aka Jamie). Jamie called a few minutes before his scheduled time just to say that he was on his way. Jamie diagnosed the issue quickly, and set to work. He explained what he was doing every step of the way and finished in just under an hour. Very reasonable and a heck of a nice guy! Jamie then let me know that the pipes were old, showed me where they had improperly installed and left a comprehensive bid to replace them. I used evergreen plumbing to repair a broken pipe for my bathtub. Dave the technician was prompt, professional, and did the repair in a timely manner. The reason for my 2 star rating was that evergreen recently changed their pricing from time and materials to a per job pricing. Before Dave even opened up the wall to determine the problem, he played on his phone looking for a random repair item to give me a price. I could tell he randomly picked the one he did. He gave me a price. Not being a plumber I assumed the price he gave me would be reasonable for the job, so I agreed. The job took 1-1/2 hours with minimal materials. It worked out to over $260/ hour! I spoke with the office and they would not budge saying I agreed to the price. I was at a huge disadvantage and trusted evergreen to charge me reasonably. I feel I was taken advantage of due to my lack of knowledge and evergreeens new pricing. I was not treated fairly, I will go elsewhere with my business. read more

When I asked for the usual invoice showing costs and labor, with mfg. serial #, and warranty, I was told the "estimate" was it. Now suspicious, I looked up retail price of heater, about $1000. I called them and set the appointment and they showed up at the appropriate time and a bunch of that point, things seemed okay. There was a little confusion in the beginning as they were very adamant that they really wanted the homeowner present and able to pay on site immediately after the repair which is a little challenging because I live more than an hour away and a family friend lives at the home. But after two phone calls and three conversations they told me that they would be able to call me and I could pay over the phone. So at that point it was a four-star experience but still acceptable. When a plumber arrived and looked at the job he called me I missed the call because I was in the middle of another phone conversation. I called back and less than 5 minutes but when you call back you don't get the plumber their system route you back to the corporate office not to the plumber who's on site. After sitting on hold for several minutes they finally answer my phone call and attempt to transfer me to the plumber who is on site I leave a voicemail for him because he doesn't answer. I also sent a text asking them if they could text. I later found out he doesn't get those either their office manager is supposed to respond to them I guess. Very odd. The plumber calls me again about a half an hour later. I was with a client and could not take the call at that moment. Again I call back in less than 5 minutes spend about 15 minutes on hold because remember I'm getting transferred to the corporate office not the plumber on site, then the office answers I explain the situation and then they attempt to transfer me to the plumber again. He doesn't answer the second time either and so I text again please text me what's going on. I hear nothing back meanwhile the people living in the house have been without a shower for 2 days and I'm getting angry. After an hour or so I call again this time very upset. I told them I never talked to the plumber, I never got any text from anybody in the company back as to what's going on, and I never got any quotes for the work that needed to be done. The person on the phone went back through their system told me that they had received my unanswered text and told me that the quotes for the work were in the system but were never sent to me. He then sent them to me while we were talking. They were very professional looking quotes although roughly double what I have been quoted from a very reliable local plumber and also my personal plumber in Hillsboro where I live, both two were too busy to go do the job hence my call to evergreen. I needed the job done now so I said okay can they go do this work and they said he's already left the job it will be another day of waiting. I ended the call email them back to cancel any and all work scheduled or anticipated with me and I would never use their services again. I went in search of another plumber. I got a referral from a local real estate agent. The new plumber came out within 24 hours quoted me about 40% of the price that evergreen quoted me. Sent me a text when they arrived. Looked at the job and gave me a quote over the phone and completed the job promptly quickly and efficiently. Since I am remote, the new plumbing company email me an invoice with a breakdown of all charges and said I could either go on their website and pay online or give them a credit card over the phone. The experience was significantly better than any part of the Evergreen experience. I do not recommend Evergreen plumbing. I will not give the name of the new plumber but I will leave reviews for them online so if you search reviews for The other plumbers in Salem you will probably find my positive review on them somewhere. read more

I called Evergreen plumbing because my Hot water tank stop working one night. My wife really wanted it repaired that night if possible. Jacob arrived quickly on an emergency call. The service call was $200.00 which is excessive in my opinion but I was willing to pay it to get back to normal. He attempted to light the tank one time and said it needed replaced. Ok, he quoted me over $2000.00 to replaced the tank right then and that's when I knew this was a company looking to gouge his customers, I decided to ask how much it would cost for a Tankless Hot water tank installation. He quoted me me $5800.00. These are extremely high prices even by plumber standards. I said no thank you and paid my $200.00 for my 5 minute session and sent him on his way. After he left my wife and I drove down to home depot, purchased a new Gas water heater, $629.00 for a premium plus Rheem. drained and disconnected the old tank and reconnected the new tank and it took us under 2 hours. I am not expert and I would rather had paid someone to complete this work but when I see this type of business practice I don't play. Any company that's not willing to quote you and hourly rate for services should raise a red flag. The pro's- the company was receptive and came out after 5 pm.
