Planned on dinner at the Evergreen. Went on-line and chose the dinner I wanted - see attached photo. I showed the picture to the waitress, and she asked if I wanted the scallops and I said of course, just like the picture. The steak was not $26.99 as shown on the site. It was tough to say the least and a little over-cooked, never had a NY strip like that before. Instead of the 6 scallops as shown in the picture on their site, I received 3 scallops and was charged $15 for them. The owner said, "JFK Jr. wants us to eat roadkill and walked away." I paid my bill, left a nice tip as it wasn't the waitress's fault and then I walked away too. They have lost 2 customers and any future recommendations. read more

Tried out Evergreen since we were staying nearby. The building and grounds were beautiful - love the log cabin atmosphere. The salad bar was average except for the Braunsweiger dip. I'm not sure that I've ever seen liverwurst on a salad bar before, so I was pleased to try to it. One of the specials offered that night was Walleye cheeks. It was offered as a meal or a smaller add-on to any entree, deep fried or pan fried. We chose pan fried with garlic seasoning...whoa, it was way too salty! My beef filet was delicious, but my husband's New York strip was full of gristle--very disappointing. Hit or miss there. Servers were excellent! read more

If there's less then ten people there the foods good. Otherwise just leave, reservations mean nothing. Took 15 minutes to order 35 mins longer to get the water we asked for with our drinks. Warm pitcher of water no ice. 50 mins after that we're told they're out of what we ordered.....WTAF? We didn't have late reservations? Premium prices in the middle of nowhere with okish food. The owner Jeff is truly the sweetest man. He has wonderful staff. My husband and I had a small wedding reception dinner here and loved every moment. Jeff opened the restaurant just for our event on a Monday, when they would normally be closed. The food was out of this world and Linda the catering manager made everything perfect. She even created a few desserts for us. My husband and I hope to go back often just to keep those memories going. read more

This place is a classic up north supper club. It is as good as it gets. Great food! Simple but done extremely well! Great service! Wonderful atmosphere! Great old fashioneds! We had the prime rib and walleye dinners. Both were fantastic! They just opened the Dog House which is a more casual bar and game room for folks riding the atv and snowmobile trails. We found this place while hunting last year and made sure to stop in this year as well. We will be back anytime we visit the area. Note: check their hours. We love to come here. We have about a 30 minute drive from home but it's leisurely and pretty. Had the prime rib and my husband had the ribs. My husband and I went out for our normal Friday night dinner date at Evergreens Supper Club 1020 Apollo Road, Black River Falls, WI last Friday. We have eaten (seems like forever) before at this supper club and LOVED the waitresses (Lisa and Jessica) and the food. However, the supper club has changed hands and the old owners and staff are no longer there. The new owner, Jeff, said the menu and the staff wasn't changing. But, we did find out, via Facebook, that that was no longer the case. We called last night so we could get a certain table and whoever answered the phone said that wouldn't be a problem. They would save it for us. But, when we got there, there were already people sitting at the table we had reserved. Jeff, the owner, said, "Well, they just came in and sat down." An excuse saying "It wasn't MY fault." There was the exact size of that table sitting NEXT to it, which they split up for us and another couple. The other couple and we were seated at the SAME time, but the waitress took their order a LONG time before she took ours. I don't understand why she didn't just take them both at the same time, I mean, we were 2 feet apart! The waitress brought our water, but still didn't take our orders. Finally, she came back and took our orders. We went to the salad bar. It was good as always, but needed refilling on SEVERAL items, which we noted was not done until people were scraping the bowls for what was left. So, we sat at our table, with glasses of water and our salads for AN HOUR AND A HALF. At the hour mark, the waitress said, "He's (the cook) is working on your steak. Perhaps he had to go butcher the steer first! The couple, who was seated next to us at the same time as we were, got their food, ate all their food, paid their bill, and left. We were STILL WAITING FOR OUR FOOD! The bus boy came to our table, before our food arrived and started picking up things without asking. Carl was not finished with his drink, but no longer wanted it after the kid grabbed it around the lip of the glass. The owners need to teach him to only pick up glasses around the bowl of the glass or the stem. There was a table to our back when he picked up our things that was vacant and had 5 sets of glasses, plates, etc, from people who had left. After an hour and 40 minutes, we finally got our food. The steak was ok. Carl said his shrimp were delicious, but I attribute that to the fact that he was starving. ANYTHING tastes good when you're starving! I had waited so long, that I wasn't much hungry anymore. We did ask to talk to the owner as we were eating. When we asked WHY our food took an hour and a half, he gave us the following excuses. 1. The people in the table next to us had reservations. SO DID WE 2. The waitresses have to take turns putting slips up for the cook. Seems to me they should be put up in the order people came in. 3. There were other people who had to wait. You can view the whole restaurant from where we were seated. There were NO OTHER parties that came in or were there before we were that got fed AT THE SAME TIME or later than us. WHAT should the owner have done? Instead of making excuses, he could have given us a credit for part of our bill, or have offered to give us one of their fantastic (according to them) ice cream drinks. He just made excuses. We have been to evergreen twice. Both experiences were great. Note to readers. This place is under new ownership. Any reviews that are 2+ years old do not apply any longer. Evergreen is a typical northern WI supper club atmosphere. Bustling bar. A little bit of a struggle to get through the door with all the people at the bar.... But the food was outstanding. Old fashions wonderful. Prices were surprisingly low for both the quantities and quality of food we received . And service was really good considering the place was full and Yea... a little understaffed. But welcome to Life after covid! We just took our time and ate the salad bar and drank old fashions while waiting for great prime rib and fish dinner. Don't go here if you are a snowflake and can't handle a WI bar atmosphere, boisterous customers and a vibrant local community feel. All of which we found charming. We will be heading back again shortly and will post a new review based on that upcoming experience. Update. We went on Saturday for the Prime Rib and Walleye. It was excellent. Great service. If I could give it a zero I would. My grandparents owned the restaurant for 32 years before the new owners took over. I remember them being so busy but always left happy. I have 4 kids and 3 out of the 4 are young we waited over an hour for our food my kids are crying saying how hungry they are. Not once were we asked and reassuring that the food is coming. when addressing the issue the waitress straight said I just put the order in I don't cook. Well knowing your customers have young children and they are crying and having a hard time sitting still you would try a little harder. Then the owner Jeff comes to talk to us about the issue and he has the audacity to tell my mom and I you know how it goes. Well no it's like the kids should already be eating. Yeah, no. First and last time. Period. Made reservations, was on time, just your normal circumstances. Place wasn't hopping. There seemed to be more staff than patrons at first glance. I'm not going to go into details about the food. It's a Supper Club in the North Woods tucked away from .... well .... everything. Competition isn't fierce by any means. That's the first problem. Arrogance. Our waitress pasted a cheer-leader fake smile on and introduced herself so abruptly that one of us almost fell out of the chair. She was LOUD. We all looked at each other and blinked...holy cow. What the ....? Second problem? Someone needs to teach this girl how to use her inside voice (her tone never lowered in decibel the entire time we were there). Ordered drinks, a few fountain drinks and 1 uncomplicated adult beverage. We are looking forward to this experience and stoked about being here because someone knew someone who said something about it worth the trip out to this establishment. We finally made it! So we weren't looking to get buzzed up by alcohol, make sense? [15] minutes later - we are wondering if there is a problem with I don't know... the pop dispenser? One of us says "Gee, it's been a while since we ordered drinks, right?" We all confirm. Then, almost on queue our waitress does a drive by in her abrasive tone and announces as she's walking through the area that the bartender was just finishing up the drink. . . More blinks all around. 15 minutes for .... huh? Gotta remember guys - there weren't a lot of patrons there. But - plenty of staff! Third problem - one of two things. Poor management of the skill set tonight or some serious passive aggression. Not looking good here people. Time to order. Special is recited by rote, loudly, and orders taken. We are told to head to the salad bar. As I am not reviewing food, rather service, I'll just say here that I've been to many a salad bar - and there is little to no effort put forth in this case. See Problem [1] for possible explanation. Salad is consumed quickly as portions are small. Busboy did a great job to remove plates right away. In the meantime, [2] separate tables are seated without fanfare, about the same # as our party. I don't remember any off us being hyper sensitive at that point about the timing of service, but it became pretty obvious that again, our waitress was no where to be found. 10 - 15 minutes go by. 15 - 30 more go by. Dude, did those [2] tables already get served already? Before you jump to conclusions (not that you would or anything....) [2] of their dishes had the same entree that we had ordered before they walked in the door. They are served, they eat, they LEAVE and we are still waiting. Problem ... what number am I on? Whatever, you get the idea. Over an hour after we walked in the door - our food arrives. And that's all I have to say about that. Bill was over $100. We expected better. We were treated with unprofessionalism with a side of snarky. Taking our business elsewhere, thank you very much. Could be a timing thing. Could be a staff issue. Who knows? Still, unacceptable behavior and what that shows is the management of this establishment is lacking. It's not like you couldn't hear the voice of that waitress from clear across the room. Maybe it's a case of nepotism. Hope it's worth it! One last thing? Cash/check only (seriously? who has checks anymore??). "There's an ATM over there". Yikes. Really? Rude and even made me cry. A group of us went here to celebrate a very special occasion. We had a reservation and stood akwardly in the way. This was all of ours first time here. Another first time customer helped us by telling us there is porch to hang out comfortably around back. Getting drinks was not allowed on a tab and they only accept cash or check. My second round took way over 20 minutes of her blowing me off. I even tried recruiting help from other customers to get me get a drink. Great experience, went here with my parents and family and we were greeted as we walked in and promptly seated. Most of us had the Friday fish ($8.95 acye with salad bar) My wife ordered the chicken and youngest son ordered the blt. Food came quickly and the fish pieces were decent sized although the fryer oil could have used a change. Blt was a good size for a 9 year old but maybe a tad small for an adult. Wife's chicken was cooked through and done. For dessert I ordered the grasshopper and my wife and daughter got pie slices, you can't go wrong on any of those choices! Those were a 10 star! Waitstaff took care of us and checked on us several times. A gratuity is added to all parties seven people or larger so fyi. The place is pretty rustic and in the woods, but then that's the experience I guess, they had a hummingbird feeder up and there was things of birds feeding off it. I have been to this place four times under the new ownership. I'm sad to say the service sucks. Every time I have been it has taken a MINIMUM of an hour and a half before dinner hit the table. The food is a 50/50 gamble either it's good or garbage. By the time you sit down until you leave plan on a two hour plus experience. On the bright side the owners and wait staff are friendly. We've gone recently to have dinner. All the new owners did was to complain and talk down about the previous owners who ACTUALLY built the business from the ground up. It took forever to order. Our drinks were over priced for the size and they tasted watered down. It took a bit for the waitstaff to take our orders. The food look forever to arrive to us and it was cold. and did not taste good. ( the excuse was, We're all new to this, sorry) The waitstaff was very unfriendly and snobby. (kind of like I'm better than you attitude. They must get it from the new owners). The new owners did NOTHING BUT DEGRADE the previous owners and bad mouth them. You have no idea of who knows who and what's going to be relayed to others. Regardless of your PERSONAL indefferences, you keep YOUR PERSONAL OPINIONS to yourself. You don't walk around a restaurant bad mouthing the ones who actually built up the clientele that you're supposedly taking over. Nothing travels faster than negative stuff. I started a traveling Supper Club in order to help keep a small group of friends in touch. The Evergreens was our first pick for our first get together and we were not disappointed! Great atmosphere, staff and food! We managed to save some room for the fantastic ice cream drinks that we shared with each other. Tried to get into two local supper clubs in Hatfield,WI, everything was booked so we took a flier on this place. Cozy little spot in the middle of nowhere. We walked in, the place had a small cabin feel to it, so far so good. I just love finding places in the middle of nowhere that has great food. Greeted by a nice enough waitress who sounded like Fran Drescher of the nanny. I actually thought she did a good job, although her voice was just a bit too loud. Now on to the meat and potato's of the review. Wife and I both ordered the same meal- Prime rib (medium rare) baked potato and salad bar. Serious, prime rib is always one of my favorites when going out on Saturday nights in WI. I can honestly say I have tried 20 or more different restaurants for Prime Rib, and have NEVER had Prime rib this TERRIBLE in my entire life. It looked like they put the piece of meat under a broiler for a few minutes on each side and served it. It was medium-rare, I will give it that, but just AWFUL. Tough as shoe leather, no flavor whatsoever. Never had prime rib that looked like steak and tasted like cardboard. Even the potato tasted off. Salad bar very very small with little variety. Rolls in a plastic container- pick your poison, Hard, harder or none of the above. *Only positive in the salad bar was the French dressing. I am usually not this harsh on a mom and pops establishment, but I have no choice here. I wouldn't go back if they paid me. My mother and I went to the Evergreens Supper Club when we were in the BRF area on vacation. It was highly recommended and we were very excited to go. About ten minutes after we walked in the door, I realized this place was a joke. We stood awkwardly be the door waiting for someone to acknowledge us for several minutes. We were finally seated by a waitress and then promptly ignored for another ten minutes. We were crammed into a tiny corner that they eventually rearranged to make a table for a party of ten or so (when we were still eating - that was fun). Our water arrived in plastic cups (everyone else appeared to have real glasses). There was a POST IT NOTE on the table that said "Evergreens Supper Club" (real classy). We each just decided to do the salad bar because everything on the menu was priced ridiculously high and then sat for ten minutes waiting for the waitress to tell us what to do for said salad bar. Speaking of which, the waitress seemed to have no idea what she was doing - between taking forever to bring us what we ordered and the obviously fake smile and attitude, I most certainly did not feel like a valued customer when we were done eating. To top it all off, they don't take credit cards so we had to pay in cash which really isn't THAT big of a deal... except when I took a $20 bill to the bar to have it broken down so I could leave a tip, the bar tender said, "YEAH, it's going to be a while until I can do that for you." I stood there and waited and waited. Eventually a man came up to the bar asking for his $20 bill to be broken down. She took his $20 bill and gave him a ten and two fives back while I stood there watching. A waitress (not the one who had served us) eventually approached me and asked if I needed anything and I explained that I was waiting for the bar tender to break my $20. The bar tender came up and said, "I told you we don't have any smaller bills to give out." I said, "NO... You said it was going to be a while and then gave that man who came up here after me smaller bills." The waitress was very nice and went to get me smaller bills, but then someone else came out of the kitchen looking around with a bewildered look on her face and I asked her if she was looking for the girl who needed smaller bills and she said Yes. I told her that was me, and then she didn't want to give me the money so she went to find the second person who I asked for smaller bills from. They eventually came back and figured out that I was, in fact, the person who wanted smaller bills, and they gave me the money. As far as the food itself goes, I was disappointed. The deep fried mushrooms we ordered were cold on the inside and a disgusting consistency. The busser who was refilling salads in the salad bar was doing so out of buckets of clearly store bought salads right in front of the customers. (Seriously? Take the empty containers into the kitchen and put the salads in the bowls somewhere out of sight. That's just tacky, especially if you don't make your own food.) The salad bar was picked over when there wasn't much to it to begin with. Another thing we witnessed but did not experience directly -- one of the waitresses (again, not ours) was standing by a table of six taking their order. She had taken the third person's order when she suddenly said, "OH! I'll be right back. I have to run some food out for another table." and left those people sitting around slack jawed with, "What the hell?" looks on their faces. Really? Really. You don't interrupt customers in the middle of their order to take other customers their food. That is rude, and definitely doesn't make a customer feel very important. Don't waste your time on this restaurant. They don't know what they're doing or how to treat people, and the bar tender was a real sourpuss with a bad attitude. read more

Went to Evergreen's Supper Club with my family this eve. Poor poor service with average food. This was our first and last visit. We made reservations for 7pm. We arrived a few mins early but could not get seated even though there were vacant tables. We were directed to wait on the porch, where we sat for 20 mins despite the vacant tables in the dining area. The hostess finally seated us in one of the "pre-existing" vacant tables then left promptly. We then sat in the dining area for another 20 mins watching waitresses and the hostess pass us by time after time before we got fed up and stopped an employee to ask when a waitress would be by to, at least, take our drink order. By this time we had been there for 40 mins and had watched customer after customer arrive after us, order, eat, pay, then leave before our drink order was ever taken! The food was "good", but not anything to go out of your way for and that you can't already get at any other Family Restaurant, Chain Restaurant, or at home. It's not worth a trip to the boondocks to get average food with poor poor service. The salad bar is also poor. Wendy's fast food chain restaurant has a better salad bar than this place. The way the waitresses and hostess strategically ignore you is insulting. If you are planning to visit this restaurant and are interested in receiving Great Food, great atmosphere, high quality service and be treated like a king...turn around and visit "Badger Crossing" Restaurant in Cashton, WI. The owners and staff at Evergreen's can learn a lot from a restaurant that knows how to get it right....like they do at Badger Crossing. read more
