Recommended from a friend who is local. We were hoping for a nice old school WI small town supper club and this nailed it. Lots of seating, friendly crowd. Lots of food options, well priced. Shrimp cocktail and fried shrimp and fish. Biscuits. Soup and salad. Family atmosphere. Easy for the kids to find something they liked. They had mini desserts and an ice cream cooler. We will do this again when we are on our way from Madison area to Twin Cities area. Good stopping point. read more

Where to even start? I suppose at the beginning. We were headed from our home in Central Wisconsin to Minneapolis for the weekend and thought that rather than the usual Interstate fast food fare, we should have a nice enjoyable meal off the beaten path. My wife does a little research and we found Castle Hill. We looked at their website...Inviting pictures, a seafood buffet, long history of operation. Reservations were strongly suggested, so I made some for 6 pm. We arrived a few minutes before 6. Making reservations was totally pointless, we had to wait in line with everyone else. There was an atmosphere among the staff that they were clearly going through the motions and that giving a shit was not required, as we waited seemingly forever for a table in a place with zero atmosphere. The dining area looked like a K of C meeting room, brightly lit and cavernous. It was like being at a wedding reception where you didn't know anyone. Finally a woman seated us at a long folding table with a plastic tablecloth and asked if we'd like menus. Uh, yeah, it's pretty hard to decide what we want without them... The woman disappears. 20 minutes later, no water, no menus, no drink order, nothing. The woman was at the bar, chatting with friends. Kathy went to hunt her down, to my protests. I wanted to leave at that point. She returned with the woman, who brought one menu and left to 'find another', never to return. We decided on the seafood buffet, as we thought that ordering off the menu, we'd be there all night. A young girl took our order and our drink order. Scallops were advertised as being on the buffet. There were none. The cocktail shrimp were good and the deep fried cod wasn't bad. That's where it ends. There was boiled cod that comically tried to pass itself as 'Door County Fish Boil', absolutely the worst baked cod i.e. Poor Man's Lobster I will likely ever experience, and several other items that clearly came out of a frozen bag or a can. Many items I wouldn't even try, they looked that bad. The swedish meatballs clearly came from On-Cor. We ate what we could manage to. Waitress didn't return with our beverages until the meal was half-over and we never saw her again til she brought the check...no refills on anything. To summarize, cheap, crappy food, lousy service, zero ambience. They tout themselves as 'Jackson County's Premier Steak and Seafood House'. I am quite certain that they are the ONLY Steak and Seafood House' in Jackson County or they'd never be able to make that claim. It was an adventure, to say the least. 30 miles down the road, I asked Kathy if she had any gum, so I could get the taste of that awful baked cod out of my mouth. 4 stars for food, 2 stars for atmosphere = 3 stars. I've been to Castle Hill a few times in the past before I started Yelping and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My family and I came here with a large group recently and I was disappointed to see that they had closed off the Supper Club side of the restaurant and therefore everyone was to sit in the banquet side. The banquet side feels very much like a banquet hall, which is not at all an enjoyable atmosphere for a normal night out. It's very brightly lit with stark white table cloths and high backed banquet chairs. Part of the reason one goes to a supper club is for the cozy, inviting atmosphere and this isn't it! Now.. I have to wonder if the choice to close down the restaurant side has to do with COVID and social distancing. I definitely do respect that if that is the case, but I have to call it as I see it. Now on to the good stuff! Despite our large group, our service was impeccable. The servers were so organized and knew exactly how to accurately and efficiently handle a group our size. They were very friendly as well. Most of us ordered prime rib and every single person got the exact cook that they wanted and the food was delicious. The prime rib was SO tender and didn't have blobs of extra fat like you often see with that particular cut. I might even say this is one of the top 3 prime ribs I've ever had! The sides were good as well. The cocktails were good and omg so strong lol! All in all this is a great place to eat, just definitely missing that supper club vibe. read more

We arrived early and had a drink at the bar. The restaurant was packed, so I figured it would be a good meal. We were seated early and our waiter, Brent was outstanding. He knew the menu and delivered our food with a smile. The filet, prime rib, and ribeye were cooked to perfection. Wisconsin is known for Supper Clubs, and this one fits the bill nicely. Menu had plenty to choose from, prices were a bit on the higher end, but the food was decent. I would go back for another round. read more

Local customer and never can get a order to go not enough and they recommend you go elsewhere. That means extra travel better not waste your time unless you make reservations months in advanced. Good luck read more

My girlfriend and I were mid-roadtrip when I called in to ask how late they'd be open. After some friendly bantering, it was decided that they'd still be open by the time we expected to arrive. We showed up to a completely empty parking lot (8:10pm on a Thursday) and patron-free restaurant and realized they probably would've shut down early if not for my phone call. That's some generous WI hospitality. We ordered a pair of classic Up-Nort' cocktails to sip on while we pondered the menu and waited for the food to arrive: a brandy old fashioned and a brandy manhattan. Both were exactly what you'd expect and hope for in a place like this, and I'd recommend both if you know what you're getting into (simple, classic WI cocktails). My girlfriend chose the sirloin steak with a salad and American fries; I went with the broasted chicken with all dark meat, some chicken dumpling soup, and a side of mixed veggies. The steak was delicious, though unfortunately for me, she ordered it medium-well (and it arrived medium-well). The fries, soup, and salad were all standard fare done right. I think the mixed veggies were previously frozen, as their texture was less than stellar, which would be my only minor complaint about the entire experience. But the broasted chicken MORE than made up for that. Holy s**t was that good. We talked about it the rest of the weekend at a family reunion. Perfectly crispy breaded skin and mind-bogglingly moist meat inside. For some added charm: I think the bartender and chef are joint owners, and I suspect they live next door (since we saw zero vehicles). And did I mention the whole meal cost $40? Go there. read more

This was or first time at Castle Hill Supper Club. We will definitely be back. We both had the prime rib done medium. It was absolutely AMAZING!!! We eat a lot of prime rib in different places and this is top two EVER! It is a quaint little place with great staff. Our bartender, Patti, was fabulous. I hope she is behind the bar when we visit next. If you like perfectly fine prime rib and great service, make the trip to Castle Hill!! read more

Host was so rude we walked out. They Didn't want and wouldn't give them one red cent of my hard earned money.

May have been a nice dining experience with my visiting family except for the fact I WAS lured outside and was blind sided knock to the ground from an awaiting member of a wedding reception half barely conscious another member of the he wedding party was going to take a turn except he saw me bleeding profusely from the ear. Heard about this place on the radio but had to Google it because they never mentioned what town in Jackson county it was located in. The supper club side looked rustic but we ate on the buffet side. Staff was friendly (although when I asked for a lemon with my water she told me I could just grab one off the buffet table). Unfortunately, the food was average, lots of starches-green beans were the only vegetables on the buffet (outside of the salad bar-which was an average stocked bar with 4 pasta salads) We went to dinner around 6pm and the fish (fried and baked) was tough like it had been cooked well in advance. Soups were Chicken Dumpling (I didnt see any dumplings in my soup) and Wild Rice (which was mostly just white rice)-same stock base used for both soups-as well as the chicken over biscuits entree so 3 of pretty much the same foods on the bar. The ham was tasty, the "jumbo shrimp cocktail" that is advertised is actually just medium sized shrimp-but were still tender and not chewy. Deserts- we only tried the lemon bar but were underwhelmed. Price- at $14.99, it was worth the trip.....This is a typical Wisconsin buffet so if you are coming from, say, the twin cities and are looking to tantalize your tastebuds, you should refocus your approach and just be prepared to have some bland, plain comfort food.... I shouldve finished it off with an ice cream dessert drink-l think I'll save that for my next visit for the prime rib special! read more

The food at Castle Hill was a pleasant surprise for me given the location, which happens to be middle of nowhere Wisconsin. The restaurant itself has a sort-of cheesy Olive Garden style decor, with plastic grapes and vines and the whole bit, but people didn't seem to mind, it was half full on a random Wednesday night. The service was clueless about the menu, but very friendly. Despite the lack of assistance with the menu, we were able to find some tasty dishes. I started with the chicken noodle soup which was simple and hearty with very doughy noodles. I enjoyed a bacon wrapped steak for dinner although I truly wished I had ordered what my sister had. Her stuffed shrimp were battered and fried with a creamy crab mixture inside. My steak was nicely done medium rare, but this shrimp was definitely a menu show stealer. As a group of six, we ordered one piece of the gigantic peanut butter and chocolate pie and that was plenty to share among all of us. It was very rich and an unbelievable size. I can see why the locals like it here so much, it's good food with a homey charm. read more

We stopped here on our way up north based on a handful of reviews. It was OK. The menu and specials online aren't current (Wednesday night is NOT still wine night). Service was a tad slow but when we got a server she was very friendly. I had the steamed shrimp (cooked well, served with butter, no seasoning) and fries. The iceberg lettuce salad was somewhat wilted and nothing to write home about. My husband got the king filet. It was pretty good. He got the house blue cheese dressing for his salad and that was the best part of the meal! Overall an ok spot to stop but nothing I would go out of my way for to revisit. read more

Our favorite supper club. We live in Madison and look for reasons to be in the area, i.e., the Hatfield Flea Market, The casino, or downtown Black River Falls. We always eat there on Saturday nights, probably 6-8 times in the last 3 years. The prime rib is the best we have ever found in Wisconsin. The hostess (possibly a co-owner), the staff, the atmosphere, and the drinks and food are top-shelf. The last time there, July 20th 2019, we met up with a couple from Minnesota and they enjoyed eating there as much as we did. We all had the prime rib, except my wife who ordered a tenderloin steak, and we commented on how this is as good as it gets! Thank you Castle Hill for another fabulous meal! read more

Two words. Prime Rib. I live in the Milwaukee area but have a cottage not to far from this place and the prime rib here is better than almost any place in Milwaukee. Not worth the gas getting there unless you want to experience real redneck Wisconsin. There were bridesmaids arriving for a wedding reception in the back of a pick-up truck when we walked in. Our table wasn't ready even though we had a reservation. The bar and the waiting area are very small so we stood outside and watched an over 6-foot, 200+ 30-something with a braided pony-tail down his back shove an older gentleman to the ground. The police were called and then the ambulance arrived. All this time we never saw anyone from management--not to break up the fight, not to help the gentleman and not to show us to our table. While at a family cabin we were hoping to eat here on a Tuesday night as the website said it was open (only closed mondays). We arrived and the sign on the door said it was closed Monday's and tuesdays. Disappointing they did not update their hours. read more

If you are looking for a great supper club, you cannot beat this place! This is the place a rate all other supper clubs. I go here every year during opening day of deer hunting season. I have been there on Friday night for the seafood buffet, and it has been good. The main attraction is on Saturday for an an all-you-can-eat stuff-your-face prime rib extravaganza! The salad is good, the desserts are good, and the remainder of the buffet is out of this world. If you hit the prime rib wall, there are also 5 or more other meat options to choose from. The thing I like best about this place is that on one side of the restaurant, you can sit at big tables and just have at it on the buffet. On the other side, its a bit more calm. Its actually a classic supper club, right down to the relish tray. Don't forget to get a Grasshopper or a Brandy Alexander to complete your meal. My family has been going here for a long time (20 plus years) and we are greeted by the same wonderful lady...Marie. For years, another person that used to work there would stop in on Saturday to say hi to my grandpa. You just don't get that service anywhere. Castle Hill is an old- time super club. We enjoyed dinner on a Saturday night in August. I called ahead to make a reservation and was glad I did. The dining room was busy and loud! The air conditioning was having a hard time keeping up. Our waitress took our drink orders immediately and returned with them quickly despite the bar being busy. Our table ordered their specialty prime rib (best in the area IMO) and the shrimp feast. The feast is a combo of coconut shrimp, stuffed shrimp & fried shrimp. We had an option of soup or salad as a starter. My husband had the chicken noodle soup and I enjoyed a crisp cold salad. Our food came just as we were finishing our starters. Our waitress was quick to refill our drinks and refresh our water. Overall, we had an enjoyable meal and will be back! read more

Go here every two years when we visit black river falls wisconsin always had a great meal until now I ordered a ribeye my wife a sirloin and I could not tell which was which the steaks looked like the no name box variety you would get in the freezer department at Walmart. This place reminds me of a restaurant that is in dire need of expert advice, like a tv show host that comes in to save it. Perhaps Chef Irvine could save it from itself. Although the steaks are good, good isn't good enough to carry a bland menu. Nothing has any herbs or seasoning. The buffet has a nice variety, fresh salad makings and smells wonderful. It's a great presentation of poorly done, bland foods. I mean, "boiled" fish??? Gordon Ramsey would be appalled. read more

Although the prime rib was amazing, I had an entire glass of wine spilled down my back and then had a hair in my salad. What made it a deal breaker is when the manager told me that I wouldn't be "charged for that glass of wine." She then came at me with the entire bill. It was only when I complained a third time that she took a portion of the total off. Awful business practice if you ask me. I will never return. read more
