Right now, I'm taking a break from meat so I've been exploring vegan options. I've heard great things about Everlasting Life and I happened to be in the area - so this was my opportunity to try them out. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the nice staff. They allowed me to sample food and answered any questions I had. I ordered the maple wings, cheesy cauliflower, kale and mac n' cheese. I couldn't wait to get home and dive in. Everything was delicious, next time instead of getting the cheesy cauliflower, I'll get the sweet potatoes. Lastly, I love the purpose and mission of this black owned business. I ordered mashed potatoes, cornbread, the wings, a slice of chocolate peanut butter cake. It came to be $20.xx, a little expensive for the presentation, but I am happy this was vegan food and the restaurant industry is struggling during COVID, so I get it. It's a small place, so it seemed like it was built for take-out. I ate it on the metro home and I was happy that after almost a decade without eating real wings, I was able to get down and dirty with these "drumsticks." I felt like a natural. They did an excellent job with the texture of the "chicken" and the seasoning was spot on. It felt nearly real, far enough that I could not be concerned with fake blood or veins, but close enough that I felt accomplished when the stick was eaten clean. The employee was nice. So great that the Anacostia Arts Center has found another vegan restaurant to serve the local community. I was so excited to hear about Everlasting Life moving in! They have a pretty expansive menu and what they offer changes from day to day. An Entree and two sides is $11 and the portions are pretty generous. They offer two kinds of mac and cheese-- chickpea and cashew. The chickpea is very reminiscent of the NuVegan mac and cheese, and the cashew one is my favorite. The cashew mac has a slightly smokey flavor and is more unique that other vegan macs I've tried. I also tried the vegan pot roast over mashed potatoes, and it was good but not necessarily something I would crave again. There's two different greens, collards and kale. I'm not sure which I tried but it had a bit of a funny taste to me. I tried my friend's jerk chickn and it was delicious! There were three different flavor chickn drummies that looked tasty and I look forward to trying them as well. It was so hard to not get a dessert when there's so many pie and cake options but I resisted, hoping that they stick around and I'm able to slowly work my way through the whole menu :) read more

Without a doubt this is probably my favorite vegan place of all time! I cannot describe the greatness of being vegan and eating soul food that is so comforting and so well disguised that even my non-vegan friends find it great and impossibly delicious. They have several restaurants around the Washington DC capital region that you could definitely find yourself one of these. The only reason why I gave them four stars at this location is due to the parking situation and all of the construction. As well as one time I showed up there at exactly 11 AM and no one was there until about 1120 and I was in a hurry that day. Of course they were late on the one day I needed them there on time. But I quickly forgot about it after eating their delicious food. You will not go wrong with trying the special wing flavor of the day and some mac & cheese. read more

They also have rotating sides like Kale greens, collard greens, candied yams, battered cauliflower, green cabbage, beans, and brown rice on their menu for Monday's. Again their entree menu changes daily, however their sides menu generally stays the same, and I see why with their deliciously dope dairy free, Mac n cheese's they have!! I ordered from their Wednesday menu and got the eggplant Parmesan entree (pictured $15.50) with their signature original Mac n cheese, and yams. The entree left more to be desired since I am a eggplant enthusiast. Their Yams and Mac have always been delectable, and if you have not tried these items before...they are a must have. I also got their infamous maple drumettes (pictured $5). Geesh Louise these things are tasty!! Rich in flavor and I swear you wouldn't know they weren't real chicken!! Last but not least I had their vegan chocolate cake (pictured $5). It was moist, tasteful, and dense with chocolate!! Their customer service was attentive, and welcoming, I had not one issue at all, although I wasn't in this particular spot during peak hours. Parking was kind of rough at this location via construction happening in the area. Overall this spot is a must go to...consistently!! I've visited the other location of Everlasting Life location and wanted to try this one. It's located in the Anacostia Arts Center, all the way in the back. I've been trying to eat less meat so I ended up here. I got the Jerk "Chicken" with Chickpea Mac and Cheese, Kale and Greens from the hot bar. All of these foods were very tasty and flavorful. They give a lot of food also, worth how expensive the plate is. It could easily be shared between two people or 2-3 sittings depending on how much you eat. The space has tables to sit and eat at, but I got my food for take out. read more

I had just eaten Kenyan food prior to visiting the shops in this area. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this restaurant and tried some samples. I couldn't refuse taking some for later. I honestly have never tried vegan food this good. The vegan sausage and mac n "cheese" were out of this world. I been to this particular location 3 times. I have been quite familiar with the lady that works there most of the time. But on several occasions she lacks customer service. Because I want to support black business, I wanted to keep going back. But because she clearly wasn't not listening when I said I wanted the Vegan Mac and cheese without cashews, she misinterpreted as the Mac and cheese with cashews. There is no sign to differentiate which one is which every time I have went into this store. It's not even a high volume store. I was the only person in there at the time when I was ordering my food. Now me being a nice and understanding person, when I went back, I didn't yell, I didn't threaten her with a lawsuit. But I knew from the first bite something wasn't right. I dashed back to the store to exchange to food. Thank god I had something to drink (I had my own Water bottle and coffee with me) but that still wasn't enough and had to grab some juice from their refrigerator, because it wasn't enough to flush my system of the allergic reaction I was experiencing. By the time I got back home, my palms, and the back of my neck were itching. I also had a bit of a hive reaction around my eyes. Again great food, just terrible customer service. I don't really ask for much. Every time I went in there I had a smile on face and I even waited for her store to open, even when she didn't open around 11 a.m. Don't shoot the people down that actually want to support you. read more
