I've ordered from there twice now and the food has been consistent and solid. I've had the Egusi and Fufu, Jollof Rice, and the Suya Chicken. I'd order all of those again and al literally craving the Egusi and Fufu as I type this . I've only ordered on DoorDash so far, but the packaging is great and the food came piping hot. I love the world of options on H Street. Open Crumb gives you a taste of Ghana in a basic, no frills setting in the neighborhood. To order, we walked through the winterized patio seating and inside to the counter where you can clearly see a humble kitchen to the side. We ordered the Chicken Stew with white rice and the Spinach and Egusi with fufu. This place does takeout and eat-in. We couldn't wait to eat our meal fresh at the restaurant. The patio feels like it is indoors, fully covered in a tent with ceiling heaters. It was warm enough for us to take off our coats on a 34-degree day. The water and food were brought out to us. The meal takes about 15-20 minutes to be prepared, but it was worth the wait! The highlight of the Chicken Stew was the tomato broth over the tender chicken. The rice soaked up the leftover sauce. The plantains were also surprisingly good. The Spinach and Egusi was an entirely different flavor. The texture of the fufu along with the spinach and spices was a good combination. Looking at the variety of menu photos over the years, it appears the owner has made several item changes and slimmed down. Make sure you look at the website for the most up to date offerings. Stopped by here as we were looking to try some west African food and especially fufu. Let's say we absolutely loved the food. We had some goat stew and a handful of other dishes along with sides of plantains and basically licked the plates clean. Each dish had its own flavor profile making it nice to know each was prepared in a special way. The location is quant and what one would call a hole in the wall place. Has heaters outside so even though no indoor seating still could enjoy the food in the cold. It included spicy grilled chicken, rice, a veggie mix of onions, tomato, corn and parsley, and yogurt, which eases the spice level of the chicken. The chicken was tender, although I wish the spice level was slightly toned down and overall it felt like a hearty meal and an appropriate amount of food for the price. I didn't like how oily it was but the breading was very nice and flakey and the filling was good but greasy. I was looking for some good food and decided to try this place out. First I like to add the staff were so friendly. It was two brothers working one taking orders the other preparing the food. Because this was my first time I had a lot of questions and the two were very helpful in answering questions and offering suggestions based off what I asked. I ordered fried whiting fish with jollaf rice cooked in a tomato based sauce and a salad. I also ordered red beans and rice, fried chicken with white rice and salad and a side of macaroni and cheese. I love the jollof rice and the African stew sauce you get to put on your fish or chicken. I also received another type of sauce with spices. The sauces were good I wasn't sure what went on what so I just added it to all my food. The place look like a small Carryout not really a restaurant dine in but definitely restaurant quality food. Came to the new H street location (822 H NE) the day after their opening. I had been waiting for a long time and am so happy to have them in this part of town now! I regret that I didn't take any photos of our food. We ordered the Suya Chicken and Kotomeri+Egusi with fufu. Both of us enjoyed everything and it was the best food we've eaten in a long time! The service was wonderful. It's outdoor seating only and it was a typical hot DC summer day, but we were comfortable under the covered seating area and had a wonderful time. I love Ghanaian food so when I stumbled upon this spot I was so excited. They have really good Jollof, chicken stew, and spinach stew. The first time I went, I was a little turned off because the young man taking the orders lacked customer service. I like for people that know the food to interact with me and convince me that me spending my money will be worth it. Anyway, I chalked it up to him being shy and not personable. Let me be clear, he wasn't rude or unprofessional, just a little disengaged. However, the moment I bit into that $5.00 chicken sandwich with all those spices, fresh greens and red onions, with that Dijon mayo and that fresh baked brioche bun, I decided that he doesn't even have to say hello on my next visit as long as that sandwich was just as good...LOL I went back the same day after work to get my dad and nephew a sandwich and my nephew wanted fries. I got the shrimp po boy. The fries are freshly cut, seasoned, and fried! The seasonings they use make the world a better place. The shrimp po boy was equally fresh and delicious but needed a couple more shrimp so make sure you ask for extra shrimp when you go! The 3rd time I went, I had an order for the whole office. They are passionate about cooking and the neighborhood. 2) The food: Every two days, they bake fresh brioche bread for their sandwiches. You'll experience their brioche if you order the fried chicken sandwich. It comes fresh from the fryer after being brined for 36 hours with spices. They add fresh tomato, lettuce, and purple onion crafting one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've had in the city. My sandwich was just under $8. I inhaled it, the fried chicken was not heavily battered. It was fluffy crunchy goodness topped with their homemade fluffy fresh out of the oven bun. We came here on a whim, searching for late lunch after touring Fort Washington. Their menu consists of a unique combination of southern soul and Ghanaian cuisines, sprinkled with some sweet offerings. OC is family-owned and operated. We were fortunate enough to chat briefly with the mom and sons, and it was clear to see how much passion, love, and pride they had for their food. We sampled the fried chicken sandwich and the "red red" with jollof rice. The buttermilk brined chicken was perfectly moist inside and crispy on the outside (I believe it was coated with panko crumbs). It was lightly seasoned with spices, paired with simple LTO, and sandwiched between pillowy homemade brioche buns. At $5, it was a steal. I was in Ghana about six years ago and my favorite dish was, without a doubt, red red. It's a traditional Ghanaian dish: fried plantains in a tomato bean stew. We ordered ours with a side of rice. Though less flavorful than what I fondly remembered (perhaps because they don't use palm oil), the side of shito (red pepper sauce) more than makes up for it. In fact, the sauce was so good that we ordered a container of it to go! While shito typically contains dried fish and shellfish, their homemade version is vegan. So vegans, go get 'em!! read more

I had this food as a catering hosting at a high school senior event. I'm pleased that they chose to keep the money in the community. First lets start with what I enjoyed the most. Their organic juices it seems like. I had the Blueberry Lemonade. While it advertises as a lemonade it has wonderful hints of ginger too. The fried chicken was pretty good. definitely had a nice crunch , juicy and very flavorful. The Mac and cheese lacks flavor and pazazz. The greens was honestly the item I was least pleased with. They tasted like pure chili powder and were undercooked. When you cater or cook in huge batches it's important to take more time on intricate details and making sure the taste is there ! They make brioche bread fresh every morning and use it in their sandwiches. Owner Peter O. said the chicken sandwich is the best seller so far. The chicken sandwich (battered and fried chicken, lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo--you can get mustard too) was served with a small side of shito (Ghanaian black pepper sauce). The delicately fried dark meat chicken with an almost Popeyes-like crust, combined with the slight sweetness of the buttery griddled in-house baked brioche bun, and the earthy spiciness of the shito was the perfect combo! Be sure to have napkins on hand bc the chicken is juicy. The cheesecake was very light, not to tart or sweet with a crumbly graham cracker crust.
