    Plantains with peanuts and spices

I was so glad to see vegan options at a West African restaurant. Had the savory plantain dish and the peanut stew with fufu. Absolutely delicious!

I love the world of options on H Street. Open Crumb gives you a taste of Ghana in a basic, no frills setting in the neighborhood. To order, we walked through the winterized patio seating and inside to the counter where you can clearly see a humble kitchen to the side. We ordered the Chicken Stew with white rice and the Spinach and Egusi with fufu. This place does takeout and eat-in. We couldn't wait to eat our meal fresh at the restaurant. The patio feels like it is indoors, fully covered in a tent with ceiling heaters. It was warm enough for us to take off our coats on a 34-degree day. The water and food were brought out to us. The meal takes about 15-20 minutes to be prepared, but it was worth the wait! The highlight of the Chicken Stew was the tomato broth over the tender chicken. The rice soaked up the leftover sauce. The plantains were also surprisingly good. The Spinach and Egusi was an entirely different flavor. The texture of the fufu along with the spinach and spices was a good combination. Looking at the variety of menu photos over the years, it appears the owner has made several item changes and slimmed down. Make sure you look at the website for the most up to date offerings. Based on what we ate, I think they really do focus on quality! I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

This place is absolutely amazing. I used to eat at the Anacostia location, and I'm really happy to see this H Street location open up. Food: Ordered Goat Stew and Chicken Suya * Both were seasoned very well and tasted delicious. Service + Ambiance: I don't care about that stuff. The FOOD is amazing. 6 STARS

Located just off H St on the corner of where Chupacabra used to be, Open Crumb is a little bit of a hole in the wall. I ordered the Suya Chicken over Rice priced at $15. It included spicy grilled chicken, rice, a veggie mix of onions, tomato, corn and parsley, and yogurt, which eases the spice level of the chicken. The chicken was tender, although I wish the spice level was slightly toned down and overall it felt like a hearty meal and an appropriate amount of food for the price. I also got the blueberry lemonade, which was fine, but not a must-get for $6.

Food was delicious! The portions were nice and the price very reasonable. What stood out was the packaging. The containers were different from normal takeout containers. They were perfect size and didn't leak. The fufu wasn't wrapped in plastic. It was in a container, which was helpful for storing the leftover fufu. I would definitely purchase from them again!

I was looking for some good food and decided to try this place out. First I like to add the staff were so friendly. It was two brothers working one taking orders the other preparing the food. Because this was my first time I had a lot of questions and the two were very helpful in answering questions and offering suggestions based off what I asked. I ordered fried whiting fish with jollaf rice cooked in a tomato based sauce and a salad. I also ordered red beans and rice, fried chicken with white rice and salad and a side of macaroni and cheese. I love the jollof rice and the African stew sauce you get to put on your fish or chicken. I also received another type of sauce with spices. The sauces were good I wasn't sure what went on what so I just added it to all my food. The place look like a small Carryout not really a restaurant dine in but definitely restaurant quality food. I will return to try more items. I saw them preparing stew spinach with the jollof rice it looks absolutely delicious I must try next time along with the crab cake sandwich. My overall experience is a 4 the food is prepared from scratch and it's made to order. The kitchen was very clean, neat and organized.

Trying something new . I came across this place on my way to the Airbnb. I had no clue what to order. The two guys working there I told them to surprise me. They asked if there was a medical issues. Which I thought was nice. What they gave me was so good. A lot of rice which I could not finch. The inside is kinda bare. But, the food and service make up for it.

The quality of the food is good but the service was not great. We went when they first opened and the guy looked like he didn't want to be there. Also, it was hard for him to hear me behind the plastic. The bathroom was out of order and though they had tables for people to dine in-which we did- there wasn't anything else on the tables- napkins dispenser, condiments, etcI had a vegetarian dish and requested fufu and plantains. I didn't get the fufu bc "he didn't hear me" and it was an extra $2. My friend got the fried whiting with jollof rice. The quality of the food was good but service was mediocre at best. It's small and they only have a few tables but the ambiance isn't really welcoming. Quite a few people ordered take out. Overall, the food is definitely good but they loose points for poor customer service.

Stopped here for lunch and the food was great. The service was excellent! After making some recommendations the food was seasoned to perfection. Highly recommend the stew chicken and jollof rice! Very bright and clean eating area.

First time trying Open Crumb. I got the chargrilled chicken with rice, salad and brussels sprouts. Not bad for the price. Pretty tasty. The actual store is dark and not much to write home about, but the food was good. Didn't take too long to get my pick-up order.

One of the top three chicken sandwiches I've had. Great crunchy chicken with all the moistness trapped inside with the spices. Everything on it complimented the chicken, including a nice brioche bun. The rice is great too. The plantains are awesome as well.

Dinner was for 25 + people and there was barely enough food for 12. Not that this mattered, as EVERYTHING was inedible and there were no plates, cutlery or napkins provided. I take that back, the store brought $2.00 (price still on) cornbread and $16.00 cake were the ONLY items edible. The Mac and Cheese was dry and bland. I will give them credit for it being both overcooked and undercooked all in the same batch. I'm still trying to make sense of that! The only adjective that even remotely describes this Mac and Cheese is "disrespectful". Like, seriously, the disrespect was 10/10. The chicken was undercooked and bland. How do you make jerk chicken bland and soggy? I'm actually curious. The "blackened" salmon was overcooked yet not blackened, creating another "make it make sense" moment. I immediately spat out the greens. They were undercooked, not under-seasoned but literally "not seasoned". Wait, I take that back too, if you count the dirt and grit as seasoning. They should be ashamed of themselves for ripping people off. Pictures don't lie. The fact that they were sent pictures and still stood behind their product tells you all you need to know. Please, please, PLEASE do not let these people ruin your event and more importantly your special moments and memories. I'll start at the start--from the first email we sent to B. Lin Catering--they were responsive, helpful, and really thoughtful about our questions. That is no small thing, because we threw a lot of questions at them in that first email, and throughout the process, I mean a lot! But every time, Rena worked through our list in a timely way and responded to every single one of our questions with answers that were direct, and helpful. She was not just ready with answers to every question, but happy to provide additional suggestions and information from her experience, and proactive about raising and resolving issues in the plans we suggested we had not considered yet. B. Lin was one of our favorite vendors we worked with--and one of the most essential when it came to actually making the event we dreamed about a reality. From reviewing rental tablecloths and dishware, to suggesting tweaks to our floorplan and timeline, to setting everything out on the big day--and more. They also were crucial to the final clean up, and helping us ensure we got our venue security deposit back! The venue manager actually told us the place " was left in exceptional condition." OH and did I mention we were able to plan with them so effectively we flipped the room ahead of schedule? All night the B. Lin team was like clockwork. (but clockwork that knew how to adjust to the other ups and downs of the day around them!) And that's just about how helpful, detailed, and responsive they were to work with. I know what you're thinking--BUT WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD? The food was delicious. I can't really do it justice so you will just have to try it yourself. My only regret is we couldn't serve everything we sampled, because it was all so delicious! Star players include the buffalo chicken wonton, moneybag dumpling, and pork bao buns which were all HUGE hits during the cocktail hour. For dinner we landed on a stir-fry buffet, because it was not only delicious but gave us a lot of flexibility to for guests with dietary restrictions. I will admit now, my mother was initial skeptical of that we weren't going with the "steak or chicken" plate that was standard. But we knew we wanted something different, and tasty. In the end, she was completely converted by the end of the night. She may have told me how great the dinner was more than anyone else! But seriously, everyone loved the food, everyone! By the end of the night, me and my wife received a LOT of compliments--that really should be directed to B. Lin catering, Rena, and the rest of the team the helped us. So this is my attempt to pass along those many praises, as well as a few of my own. If you need great catering--looking no further!
