Located just off H St on the corner of where Chupacabra used to be, Open Crumb is a little bit of a hole in the wall. I ordered the Suya Chicken over Rice priced at $15. It included spicy grilled chicken, rice, a veggie mix of onions, tomato, corn and parsley, and yogurt, which eases the spice level of the chicken. The chicken was tender, although I wish the spice level was slightly toned down and overall it felt like a hearty meal and an appropriate amount of food for the price. I also got the blueberry lemonade, which was fine, but not a must-get for $6.

Food was delicious! The portions were nice and the price very reasonable. What stood out was the packaging. The containers were different from normal takeout containers. They were perfect size and didn't leak. The fufu wasn't wrapped in plastic. It was in a container, which was helpful for storing the leftover fufu. I would definitely purchase from them again!

I was looking for some good food and decided to try this place out. First I like to add the staff were so friendly. It was two brothers working one taking orders the other preparing the food. Because this was my first time I had a lot of questions and the two were very helpful in answering questions and offering suggestions based off what I asked. I ordered fried whiting fish with jollaf rice cooked in a tomato based sauce and a salad. I also ordered red beans and rice, fried chicken with white rice and salad and a side of macaroni and cheese. I love the jollof rice and the African stew sauce you get to put on your fish or chicken. I also received another type of sauce with spices. The sauces were good I wasn't sure what went on what so I just added it to all my food. The place look like a small Carryout not really a restaurant dine in but definitely restaurant quality food. I will return to try more items. I saw them preparing stew spinach with the jollof rice it looks absolutely delicious I must try next time along with the crab cake sandwich. My overall experience is a 4 the food is prepared from scratch and it's made to order. The kitchen was very clean, neat and organized.

Trying something new . I came across this place on my way to the Airbnb. I had no clue what to order. The two guys working there I told them to surprise me. They asked if there was a medical issues. Which I thought was nice. What they gave me was so good. A lot of rice which I could not finch. The inside is kinda bare. But, the food and service make up for it.

The quality of the food is good but the service was not great. We went when they first opened and the guy looked like he didn't want to be there. Also, it was hard for him to hear me behind the plastic. The bathroom was out of order and though they had tables for people to dine in-which we did- there wasn't anything else on the tables- napkins dispenser, condiments, etcI had a vegetarian dish and requested fufu and plantains. I didn't get the fufu bc "he didn't hear me" and it was an extra $2. My friend got the fried whiting with jollof rice. The quality of the food was good but service was mediocre at best. It's small and they only have a few tables but the ambiance isn't really welcoming. Quite a few people ordered take out. Overall, the food is definitely good but they loose points for poor customer service.

Stopped here for lunch and the food was great. The service was excellent! After making some recommendations the food was seasoned to perfection. Highly recommend the stew chicken and jollof rice! Very bright and clean eating area.

First time trying Open Crumb. I got the chargrilled chicken with rice, salad and brussels sprouts. Not bad for the price. Pretty tasty. The actual store is dark and not much to write home about, but the food was good. Didn't take too long to get my pick-up order.

One of the top three chicken sandwiches I've had. Great crunchy chicken with all the moistness trapped inside with the spices. Everything on it complimented the chicken, including a nice brioche bun. The rice is great too. The plantains are awesome as well.

More like 4.5/5 stars! Local, black owned place. This is one of my favorite Anacostia eateries; good ass, heavy ass food that's perfect before a workout. I love Ghanaian food so when I stumbled upon this spot I was so excited. They have really good Jollof, chicken stew, and spinach stew. My favorite thing from here though is the vegan peanut stew, MAN! It's so flavorful and hearty. I will say I prefer doing delivery because I'm not a fan of the inside of this place; it gives old carry out, but it's no denying the food is wonderful. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem.

I've been wanting to try Ghanian food for the longest time, so when I saw Appioo on UberEats, I just knew I had to put in an order. I got their grilled red snapper with a side of fufu and banku (two traditional paste-like Ghanian dishes; fufu is a starchy dough made with cassava and plantains, while banku is a slightly sour fermented version made with cornmeal and cassava). The red snapper was perfectly grilled, with a delightful char on the outside and super crispy skin, but flaky, tender flesh. It was served with a light, refreshing tomato sauce, and shito / black pepper sauce. The shito was incredibly rich, with a great spicy, smoky, and umami flavor. The tender fish and flavorful sauces went wonderfully with the two sides, with the fufu serving as more of a blank canvas (and therefore a great way to let the natural flavors of the fish -- or the deep, smoky, spicy flavors of the shito -- shine). The banku was perfectly tangy and just the right amount of funky, and it was great with the fish on its own. Everything from Appioo was incredible! I can't wait to sample a few more of their dishes, hopefully from inside the actual restaurant.

Service is swift and personable, with well-informed staff to suggest items that surprise and delight you. We started with the Daddy Bofa drink. Strong and not for the faint of heart. Definitely worth it. Had a Mocktail Sobolo (Zobo). If you're of Caribbean descent, think Sorrel. The Kelewele is good for now and later. The spiced coating on the Plantains and lightly spiced peanuts do not overtake the sweet kiss of the fried Plantains, although, some will be more Tostones-flavored and textured. They are also good with the sauces that come with the Chofi. Chofi's fried turkey tails. Similar to Chicharron de Pollo but smaller and a tad fattier. Comes with three (3) sauces with different spice levels. Come with sweatpants or other LOOSE fits, make 'em fancy though because it's a sexy place. The Waakye gives three (3) large succulent Oxtail smothered in Gari. The Rice & Peas (Red Red) (Red Black Eyed Peas) and a Jollof-styled Rice (without the spice), which was good. The Red Red are DELISH. We're a legume family. The Elmina Spicy Chicken is really for two (2), A LOT! Stewed in a savory but spicy red pepper sauce. DIVINE. We added a side of Jollof, which honestly, it should automatically come with, considering the price. FANTASTIC dishes together! After all of that, no room for dessert, although we were gonna get the Malva cake. It does come with ice cream and we simply had no room. We took everything for leftovers because it's that much food. Amapiano usually plays overhead, giving a Motherland vibe. Once in a while, you'll hear GoGo beats to remind you that you're Stateside in The District. Overall, an immediate return!

It's a small but quaint spot with a mix of booth and table seating, making it a nice place for a relaxed dinner with friends. As a picky eater visiting for the first time, I kept my order simple with wings and rice. The wings were the highlight of the meal--crispy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The rice, however, was disappointing. It was dry and lacked seasoning, and I found myself wishing it had at least a little butter and salt to enhance the flavor. The mocktails were delicious and complemented the meal well. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The music was at the perfect volume--easy to enjoy while still being able to carry on a conversation without shouting, which made for a pleasant evening with friends. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal. One small note: the ladies' restroom was clean but very small and narrow. It had a hook-and-latch style door but no place to hang a purse, which would be a nice addition. Parking on H Street is always a hit or miss, so plan accordingly if you're driving. Ratings: * Food: (3/5) * Atmosphere: (3/5) * Service: (4/5) * Dinner with Friends: (5/5) Overall, Lydia on H is a pleasant neighborhood spot with friendly service, tasty wings, and excellent mocktails. While the rice missed the mark for me, I enjoyed the company, the conversation, and the relaxed atmosphere. I would consider returning to try other menu items.
