I had Affordable Granite fabricate two quartz window sills from a remnant for me. The remnant came…read morefrom their stock and was black quartz with silver sparkles. The largest sill was for the window above the kitchen sink, so it's highly visible. Both sills were scratched prior to me picking them up. As soon as I saw the largest sill in the shop, I noticed the scratches even though the sill was covered with a lot of dust from the fabrication. The biggest scratches were two 6" parallel lines. I figured they came from the machine used to do the fabricating. I mentioned the scratches and Miza advised me to mask them with a Sharpie. He said something to the effect that no one would see the scratches. I put the sills into my car. As I was driving away I told my friend in the passenger's seat that the sills were scratched. She said she saw the biggest scratch on the kitchen sink sill right away before I mentioned it. Also, one of the dog ears on this sill wasn't squared. Before I left Affordable Granite, and before I had time to really contemplate their workmanship, I picked out another remnant because I figured I have them fabricate another sill from a different remnant. I pointed it out to Miza. He indicated that he understood, but he didn't mark the remnant with my name as was done before. I asked him if he was going to mark it, but he said he'd remember. When I texted him a week or so later with my measurements he had forgotten which remnant I wanted. He asked me to describe it. I described the remnant in a text, and then I never heard from him again.

Platt Electric is absolutely awesome! I came here to get some 1" flex liquid tight conduit because…read moreNONE of the local hardware stores seem to have any 1" conduit of any type at all. Platt had tons of this in stock, and sells both by the foot and by the spool. Platt's prices were extremely low, service was very friendly and prompt, and the employee helping me was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I was impressed with their huge variety of electrical supplies and tools, as well as their very low prices. I am also blown away by the quality of the products they sell. One of my local hardware stores finally got 1" flex conduit back in stock, but it is very flimsy, cheap-feeling, and wasn't anywhere near as high quality as what I purchased from Platt. I can't recommend Platt Electric Supply highly enough, and am looking forward to my next electric project so I can do some more shopping there.

Spent over an hour while the sales associate looked thru their catalog, then ordered them (Dec 26th) and was told they'd be in by Jan 2nd but they weren't. Called Jan 3rd to check, was told they'd been lost in transit from their warehouse. I was then told they'd have them delivered to their store via UPS and they'd be in by Jan 6th. Called the store on the 6th and was told they'd arrived. Drove to the store only to find out that they'd ordered the wrong size, capacity and amount. They confirmed that it was the same item that had been lost in transit. I showed them the note written by the sales person which was completely different from either order. Was then told they don't have what I want. They apologized and I get that mistakes happen, but how much more does a customer have to do to get such a simple part from what are supposed to be the experts? I'll never get anything from them again.

When I called to ask about it they didn't even know what Neonics are and didn't care when I mentioned they kill bees. Many hardware stores sell neonic-free plants to protect our endangered bees. But that's not the case for me at this little gem of a neighborhood hardware store. Everyone is super friendly and helpful, and I always leave the store feeling good about supporting a local business. What I like most about shopping here is I'm able to find lesser known brands that are either regionally produced, or made right here in Portland! Prices can be slightly higher than average, but I find the quality of some of these lesser known brands to be better than average. The garden center is a lovely place to visit in the spring and early summer, with a surprisingly large variety of plants and landscaping supplies. Again, their growers are likely regional, which makes for sturdier more climatized plants that will thrive when planted. I've had great luck with everything I've purchased from this department. The store has a large parking lot that it shares with a few other businesses, but my one word of advice is to please be careful when pulling out of the parking lot onto Sandy Blvd. Traffic tends to get a little crazy along this strip, especially during rush hour traffic.
