Outstanding, I cannot say enough about this place. Love, love, love it. The food was amazing, great…read morespecials tremendous flavors in all the fusion dishes they serve. The kitchen is in full view, and immaculate. The staff were all super friendly and awesome. The many craft beers and unique flavors were amazing. They usually have a pineapple cider, that is really good. The peanut butter and jelly beer just has to be tasted to be appreciated it is so good. Today I had the watermelon beer, which was beyond refreshing, and crisp. The board at the bar is updated daily and you can sample any of the beers upon request. This is a must go for anyone living or visiting the Ocala downtown.

Unfortunately for me I was looking for a brewery experience and Big Hammock is not that. They do have a good amount of local craft beers on tap which is a definite plus. They just didn't have any of their own beer. Maybe they are brewing, but if they are not, they should change the brewery in their name to brew pub because the name is definitely misleading. It is really awkward making this review, because I really did not get the full experience. I walked in, looked around, checked out the beer menu, asked if they had any of their own beers. When that answer was "no" I left. The end.

So I went to this establishment for what was advertised as an Oyster festival. Needless to say…read morewhen I arrived at 6pm I was told the festival sold out at 2pm that day even though the event was advertised as being from 11-9pm. so I decided to sit at the bar and have a drink. First I was in line behind someone being help at the register on the other end of the bar. The waitress helped the gentleman and then left the register as if she was handling some other things behind the bar, never returning to take my order, even passing by me several times. Taking orders around the bar. Then A young couple walked up behind me and were helped by the gentleman behind the bar, I assumed he had been helping them before because they were discussing how much alcohol was in a particular beer and weather or not the underage young women could legal drink it based on the alcohol , Now I'm still standing there, yet no one asked to take my order or if I needed anything! Two people finish eating and left so I took one of the seats at the end of the bar beside where I was standing . I watched while the lady lady bartender finished her shift and left and another bartender took her place, upon staring her shift she went straight to help the large group of gentleman at the bar with drinks, so I told myself maybe they have been waiting just as long as I have , yet when she finished with their drinks she walked right past me sitting there with a menu in hand! The final straw was seeing the gentleman with the beard come and take orders from two groups of people standing right beside me , where I previously was and he never attempted to take my order! I won't even mention me looking up and catching a a gentleman staring at me, like literally hard staring at me!! I don't like to make assumptions however I can only assume I was not a welcome sight in this establishment due to me being a black woman!!! I'm in Ocala for a travel assignment and I can say experiencing something like I did at this place yesterday tells me all I need to know about this area! To all my brown people stay clear of this establishment I've included pictures so there is no confusion about the individuals!

On this visit they had about 4 of their brews on tap. I got the West Floridian Christmas which is a Belgian spiced quad 8.9% ABV. It was sweet, but quite delicious. I like the concept, but this location does not seem optimal and the limited amount of their own beer on tap was disappointing. Still a cool spot. Hope the business picks up. We were here on Saturday around 5:00 pm. I would imagine they get busier in the evening, but they close at 10pm on a Saturday night so well, there is that.

We've been to alot of places…read moreback in tampa and orlando with same vibes so was so excited when something like it opened up here in ocala...but was left disappointed. First, the chef greeted almost everyone but us which was quite disappointing. Second, my order was messed up. I did told them i touched it since i thought it looked like my dish with the scallops yet the waiter still picked it up and serve to another table. Our food also took a long time to come out..water took a long time to get refilled along with the napkins and our wine did not come out until way later. Third, our bill was messed up as well. So definitely be cautious. Also, pro tip is it is cheaper if you pay in cash. We did try new stuff such as kangaroo tartare..definitely was a hit but crab fondue was ok as well as the pastas. You could definitely make them at home. The lobster pasta was too overpowering with garlic and there was barely any duck in the duck and pork pasta. For Ocala, i would say okay if you wanted to give fine dining a try. I just would not be back due to how we were treated, all the mess ups and underwhelming food for what we paid for. I do have to give props to the scallops. It was nicely cooked ( still soft, and could melt in your mouth).

The server gave great recommendations regarding the food, wine, and dessert. He was very upbeat and made sure he checked on us just enough. The chef also came out to greet us as we finished our meal. I could tell he talks to his regular customers because he spent a few minutes at another table having friendly conversation. My mom and I decided on the wine pictured below. It was very smooth. We both loved that it went well with our meals and dessert. The serve this truffle and Parmesan popcorn to start. Delicious! We also ordered the seafood empanadas. They are served with queso and pepper sauces. The empanadas are so rich and the flavor is amazing. I had the filet with asparagus and fondant potatoes. The filet was a bit overcooked but still amazing. It was perfectly seasoned and I could cut it with a butter knife. The fondant potatoes were perfectly cooked. It had this really good truffle sauce on top. The asparagus was more of a garnish but it was perfectly cooked. My mom had the bison filet with duchess potatoes. She loved it. She reported it was perfectly cooked. It was a pretty hefty portion. We shared the chocolate cake. It is not a very big dessert but we had eaten our meals and drank wine. It was served with blueberry compote and Tillamook ice cream. The cake was perfect. Rich but not too sweet or dense. I do not normally like cooked fruit. And I have never thought to pair chocolate cake with blueberry compote. But my goodness the two went together so well! The ice cream made it even better. Now I know Ocala doesn't have a ton of fine dining. And yes. The price point of this place is a bit high. But it's a great treat for people like my mom and I who enjoy great food, service, and ambiance. I also want to point out the menu has some more adventurous options like kangaroo, python, boar, and other options that rotate. I pray this town doesn't let this place get shut down. I think they could keep the crowds coming by doing a tapas night, happy hour, or food and wine pairing event.

It was a late lunch so the place wasn't all that busy...perhaps a total of 5 diners including us. We sat down and waited a minute or so before a server came by with menus and to take our drink orders. My wife asked her if they served Coke Zero. They don't, so my wife just ordered water with a lemon wedge and I ordered the same. The menu is quite varied, especially for "bar food" with various pizza options. After carefully reading the menu, my wife ordered the White Pi (roasted garlic ricotta, mozzarella, feta, and rosemary/garlic butter drizzle) and I ordered Ol Betsy (house carne asada, avocado, crispy onions, white rice drizzled with chimichurri sauce). My wife's pizza was served before my dish and I had to wait a minute or two before mine was served. I think well managed kitchens should be able to get dishes out at the same time. My wife liked her pizza. She liked the wood-fired char around the edges and the appropriate chew of the crust. She also liked the garlicky flavor and the fresh feta. My dish was quite good! The carne asada was so tender and the crispy onions with the slightly vinegary chimichurri sauce was an inspired combo...adding the creamy avocado further elevated the dish. Lunch for two came out to just under $38 with tip. We'll be back!

I think they had 25 taps and the waitress was happy to bring us samples of a bunch before we made up our mind. We both ended up with a stout. We had a queso/sloppy Joe mixed dip as an app. While very tasty, it wasn't very hot (temp), which was a problem with much of the food. We had a pizza and fish tacos for mains. We also shared a cheesecake (or was it key lime) for desert. All were good, except for temp. The best part is with tax and tip dinner was only around $70.

We had to see what we were missing, so we made the 45 minute trek to this unpretentious building on 36th Avenue in Ocala. The parking lot was full and we had to park way in the back on sand. That was a great sign! The restaurant is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside and with all the cars it didn't feel crowded as we expected. We were greeted and seated immediately. The place was clean and the menu extensive. I ordered the burger and my husband had a fish sandwich. The portion of the fish that was served was huge, but not cooked long enough in my husband's opinion. The burger was more bun than meat. Also, it had an odd taste which I compared to hamburgers served in a school cafeteria. Maybe because the burgers had been so hyped I was just bound to be disappointed. The coleslaw was to die for and I could've eaten just a bowl of that! We tried it and are glad, but it is definitely not worth the trip or the hype.

We actually have made it here 3 times within a month or two of our first visit! I never noticed where this bar was because I rarely pass by here and it is kind of hidden unless you know what you are looking for. It is located right on 441, adjacent to a plaza that also is not flashy. There is a front entrance that has outdoor seating and a side entrance from the parking lot. It is really dark in here and every time we visited, it was still daylight out so it took some adjusting. Our first visit we only had drinks. The bartenders were super friendly and attentive. Our tab was really decent as well. They give you a discount if you pay in cash. The second time we visited, we had drinks and food. It was a Saturday and I really wanted wings so I paid full price for them. Hubs ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and fries. He really enjoyed it. I also ordered the sweet potato tots, which were mediocre. The wings were on point! This time I signed up for their subscription of some kind and received a discount. Our third visit was planned and on a Sunday. I wanted to have their wings again on the cheap. What motivated hubs originally to visit here was discovering people raved about their Bloody Marys on Sundays. So I ordered a Bloody Mary fully loaded and some wings. There is no minimum quantity you have to order for the 75 cent wing special, which I think is fantastic! I wound up ordering 10 anyway for myself. The wings were on point again but the Bloody Mary was nowhere near mind blowing. I noticed when the bartender was making the Bloody Mary, the food ingredients should be refrigerated and they were not; they were in to go containers sitting on top of the bar. Luckily neither hubs or I became sick. I think even if I didn't watch the drink being made, I would have noticed because the temperature of the food ingredients were warm. The drink itself was not great either. There was barely any kick or spice to it and it tasted weak, alcohol wise. They have live music at night but I'm not sure what the schedule is. There is a pool table inside and several tvs. I think there is a fire pit outside but since we have visited during the day and when it has been hot or raining, we have not witnessed it being used. It can get loud in there with people but the volume of the tvs and live music seems appropriate.
