Evie's is so smooth and creative, open everyday 4am till 4pm . Packed with hungry folks open till close, the lowest prices around Detroit 50 percent cheaper than all the other restaurants in Sw Detroit. Over 40 years a true hidden gem on Bagley in Mexican Town. Tamales fly out the door daily, 5 bucks cheaper per dozen than anywhere around town. It's a Full old school Mexican restaurant with a Dozen Authentic Mexican Breakfast plates under $8 available all day. Specials through the week, follow the Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/groups/227919873709/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT . Fantastic Barbacoa and Carnitas , Tacos and Mexican Sandwich all favorites. She had a Botona with Chunky Beef $10 will feed 4 hungry folks. Me today's special Green Asado OMG instant addiction it's Tomatillo n Garlic Salsa Slathered in Chunky Pork Shoulder WOWED one of the very best Mexican dishes ever Eaten. Also ordered a Breakfast Burrito all only $2 each, they sell hundreds of them every morning. Chorizo n Egg for $2 mega Deal they are known for. A small dining room stays packed daily, plenty of free parking just across the street. You know it's the real deal when half the customer's are Mexican families who been coming here for decades. #eviestamales @eviestamalesswd #mexicanbreakfast #breakfastburrito #botona #greenasado #lowprices #carnitas #downriverfriendseat

Such a gem! I've been getting tamales to go from Evie's for years. Recently, I had some extra time so I stopped in for breakfast. I had a whole breakfast plus two tamales and a soft drink for $8! It was outstanding, quick and tasty. If you're in the area, and understand that this little mom and pop establishment is known for quality food more than a updated atmosphere, stop in!

I worked in Mexicantown several days last September and happened to come across Evie's Tamales since it was one of the few places open before 9AM for breakfast. I'm rarely on the southwest side of town and it was a treat to explore all of the wonderful Mexican bakeries and restaurants here. Its breakfast is one of the best deals you can find in this neighborhood. Almost all of the breakfast meals are under $5. The portions are large with breakfast entrees served with rice, beans, and tortillas. The breakfasts I ordered were Chorizo - Mexican sausage with scrambled eggs and Chicharrons con Huevos - pork rinds with scrambled eggs. I love pork belly so I especially liked the chicharrons plate. I never had chicharrons with scrambled eggs, but it works so well just like bacon and eggs. Evie's Tamales opens at 4AM so if you're ever in Mexicantown early in the morning, this is a good breakfast place.

Menudo in eggs and chorizo really great

The service was good, the ladies were very accommodating. The place is small but has about 10 tables to sit comfortably. The rice and beans were good. Being from California, I expected the kind of tamales I make- rectangular shaped and meat smothered in sauce to make it juicy! I heard so much about the tamales being the best! Let's just say they weren't my mothers ' tamales!!! They looked and tasted like store bought taquitos- the masa and meat were dry and I couldn't tell which was which because they are rolled so tight!! However this being Detroit, Mexican town is what it is!!!! A block of Not Mexican, Mexican food and items!

While visiting back in my hometown of Detroit and had to make a stop in Mexican town to have some authentic Mexican food. I had the chorizo and eggs and my friend had a chunky beef stew over fried eggs with rice and beans. The staff is super friendly and responsive.

    Lunch with friends!

Put more protein inside the tamales. It has too much masa. I feel like it's more like a Tom Tom tamales

The Asada Del Día was absolutely amazing. Medium rare ribeye paired with a leek sauce, bone marrow and freshly made tortillas. For someone who isn't the biggest coconut fan, the tres leches was delicious, creamy and the perfect way to finish dinner. Staff was amazing and ambience was great. Will be back!

Make sure you make reservations, you're gonna need them. The vibes inside are beautiful, it's dark with some great earthy decor as their ambience. They have a gorgeous bar that you can glance at, and get very excited because their drinks are divine. The weight staff is super friendly, very efficient and very attentive. We started with the Agua Chile - kind of a funner take on your standard ceviche with some gorgeous shrimp and that sauce is drinkable. Esquites were extra fun with asparagus and corn, so it gave some extra dimension to the vegetable bites and different textures as we kind of bid into it and as you can see in the picture just covered in cheese extremely good. I have to say the Tetela was one of my favorite bites, just the attention to detail on the brazing of the carrot with the lovely tortilla/masa combination, truly worth it. We also got the fish with the two different salsas and that was such a divine bite and it made it more exciting that you were essentially getting a two and one. The fish was extremely flaky, but with a stunning grilled to it. Overall amazing. The deserts were both delicious but I would go back for the Pan De Elote everytime... I mean this is how corn should be spotlighted and celebrated. It was a gorgeous meal, with flavors that make my tastebuds dance with every bite. Vecino is here to stay!

The food here is amazing. The birria tacos were packed with flavor, and at $2.50 each, they're an unbeatable deal. But the real star for me was the burrito--this thing had to weigh at least a pound! It wasn't just massive; it was packed with huge flavor. I went with al pastor for my protein, and it was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked.
