He kept the party rocking, was super friendly, and did an excellent job mixing in a pretty eclectic list of tracks we provided ahead of time for the cocktail hour and then of course for all the dancing. Dan is a great communicator and was always available via text to go over things and work on planning. In our case, we had a very casual wedding without a lot of the traditional stuff, but he was super prepared and I got the sense that he's done so many weddings that he could handle pretty much anything. Better late then never. DJ Dan provided lighting and DJ services for my wedding in May of 2013. My wife (fiance at the time) and I met with him several months before the wedding at a local coffee shop and provided him details that we would like for the wedding (entrance song, do not play list and general music preferences for the reception). Did not hear from him except for a confirmation during the following months. It was hard to get a hold of him, but he was apologetic and explained that he was very busy with events. We requested information on his ability to provide a set up for one of my groomsmen and his father to play the song for our first dance. It was of course no problem. The day of the wedding, Dan and his assistant arrived early and got everything ready. Dan did an amazing job through out the night. He picked great songs throughout the night and played appropriate music through the different phases of the night. My then-fiancee had emailed DJ Dan to inquire about booking him for our wedding reception, after which he immediately called her back to schedule a sit-down chat, at the location of our choosing. Upon our first meeting, he was extremely nice, friendly, and obviously marketing himself for a sale, but in a way that wasn't pushy nor overly boisterous at all. He had a wealth of promotional material to show us, from videos and photos of past gigs to flyers showing the variety of events he's done, as well as his especially helpful sample CDs. We gave him an idea of what we wanted in terms of event feel and musical choices, and he seemed to be really accommodating and even gave us some ideas we hadn't even thought of. We decided to hire him on the basis of his attentiveness, prompt follow-up, and his honesty in the fact that he told us there was another possible gig but that he would love to play for us instead. It just felt right to go with someone who cared for his clients. From then on, with a few months to iron out the details, we had two more meetings after that. Each time we met he was always professional, organized, and a great communicator--in person, on the phone and via email. He made it easy for us to not have to have a heavy hand in planning yet another aspect of our wedding, and only asked for a few things from us: the evening schedule, special songs (first dance, etc), and even do-not-play songs (a must when you're sick of "At Last"--sorry Etta, RIP, but that song is way too overplayed!). Also, when we told him we were expecting a number of avid swing dancers to be in attendance and that I would provide him with some music to play for that segment, he was excited to do just that. When it came time to the day of, I knew I could rest easy and just enjoy the night as he took care of both MC and DJ duties (with the help of an assistant), and we didn't have to worry at all about his role, because he was simply on top of it! He made sure the evening event flowed ever so smoothly: played appropriate, not-too-loud dinner/background music; made clear and well-timed announcements; announced and handed off to the toast givers seamlessly; and got the party started with the perfect mix of swingin', booty-shaking, and gushy lovey-dovey music! I loved that Dan later told us he was blown away by all the excellent dancing we had out there. My only regret was that he really could've, and should've, kept the tunes spinning the whole night had it not been for our venue needing to shut down. Maybe we'll have to hire him for an anniversary dance party! By far, the best was when we were trying to decide on our reception entrance song, and we high-fived our lightsabers when we agreed that the Star Wars Throne Room theme song would be most appropriate. We used Dan for our wedding, and he was amazing. We paid a higher price for him than the other DJ's that approached us. When I first got engaged, I was instantly thrown into a whirlpool of planning. So many things to do and so many vendors to hire. Having a kick butt DJ was one of the most important things I just knew I had to have. My entire family is musical and I knew that I wanted to impress them. And I wanted to make sure that everyone, old and young, had a great time and felt comfortable on the dance floor. I met DJ Daniel one night while I was out with my sister and a few friends; he was playing a gig at Brick Alley, a bar close to my house. The night was awesome! We all had such a great time, and we danced and sang the night away. I immediately thought that I should see if he does weddings. We got a chance to talk for just a bit, and he gave me his contact info. I called him the next day and he responded immediately. He said that he does weddings and would like a chance to sit down with me and show me what he does. I agreed and met him later that day. He showed up looking so professional - slacks, button down, much different than he had been the night before at the bar. I was immediately impressed as first impressions are big with me especially considering I am an attorney and feel first impressions go a long way! Once I sat down with DJ Daniel, I knew he was going to be good. He showed me his entire portfolio - something he clearly took pride in. He explained all of his services and also took me through the night, so to speak, with what he would do and suggested numerous songs for the various dances and "moments" throughout the night. I was amazed and pretty sure I had found my DJ. However, I thought I better go check out one more just to make sure. Later that afternoon, I met another DJ who works with a large company here in San Diego. Let me just say - what a disappointment. He had nothing to say and the meeting lasted less than 5 minutes. I left the second meeting and instantly called DJ Daniel to tell him I wanted to hire him. He agreed and I am so happy he did. Planning the various songs, speeches, and other things a DJ must deal with was so easy with DJ Daniel's help. He sure does know his music!! He helped with the song choices and really just made the process so easy. On the big day, DJ Daniel was one of the first vendors to arrive. He was dressed to impress and immediately began to get to work. He played some great music and I don't think anyone - no matter what age - did not get on that dance floor. Dj Daniel should change his name to Dj Dontcall; because that's what he does once he suckers you out of $500 for his non-refundable deposit. We chose dj Daniel based on his yelp reviews, but obviously he has 14 friends that that were willing to make fake yelp reviews for him. He seemed nice and friendly when we signed the contract. We negotiated with him on pricing and he later recanted saying the ceremony was not included in the price. When we sent him a copy of the contract he said it was his bad and was his misunderstanding. That was when he stopped communicating with us. It was two weeks before our wedding and we had to scramble to find a new dj. When he finally did communicate over a week later he blamed it on an illness. PayPal did not refund our deposit because it wasn't for a tangible item. He refused to give us our money back and said it was non-refundable and he wasn't doing our wedding. read more
