If there is a heaven on Earth (or at least Pittsburgh), it is the Evolve Wellness Spa in Shadyside. I had an hour-long massage that was the best massage of my life. First off they were really respectful with covid guidelines and I felt at ease. Second, it smelled like a garden full of warm cookies and flowers. My massage therapist was so attentive to my areas filled with tension and I felt like she could read my mind about the type of pressure each area needed. I work on my feet for 12 hours a day and run a lot so my body needed some TLC and Evolve Spa provided that. I've had a lot of massages and this one really stuck out. I will definitely be returning to have more massages and try out their other services. If you're looking for a massage spa, look no further. read more

Booked a birthday massage at Evolve, and I love every minute of it. First up- parking. It could pose a problem since it's on street parking, but thankfully my husband dropped me off. Atmosphere- SO RELAXING. You walk in to plants, candles, and amazing aromas everywhere. The receptionist was super duper nice, and brought me water while I waited. I booked a 90 minute massage with Becky, who was very attentive to what areas I wanted worked on the most. It was the most relaxing and comfortable massage I've had. I did have my massage during one of the wind storms, and Becky apologized for the wind gusts but I didn't mind at all. The one tip that I would say is that I love scented oils, usually lavender during a massage but the oils weren't scented. I'm guessing so it's suitable for everyone? Or maybe it's an up charge? I have been to this spa three times, twice for massages with Kylie and Shimara (may be misspelling her name). They have very different techniques but I very much enjoyed seeing both of them equally, so you really can't go wrong between the two of them. More recently, I came in for a half Brazilian wax with Julia, and I have never had a more positive waxing experience in my life. She is incredibly personable, warm, and friendly; we talked the whole time, and it was easy conversation, like talking to a good girlfriend. She also made the entire experience significantly less clinical and awkward than it normally is, and she did a thorough and fantastic job on the waxing itself. Everyone I've encountered at this spa has been extremely lovely, I would - and have - absolutely recommend this place to a friend, and I do have several who have been here and loved it as well. read more

I've been getting massages every 1-2 months for the past, eh, ten years or so, either where I live or at random spas if I'm traveling. Becky, by far, is the best massage therapist I've had. She has a very mellow and compassionate personality, and she is super attentive to whatever requests you have. It takes a lot for me, as a Type-A mom with a running to-do list always in my head, to actually relax, but sometimes I even start to drift off in her sessions! I always request mostly a relaxation level of pressure (light/medium) and ask for more time spent on my shoulders and back than my extremities, due to my 36 pound preschooler that I'm still lifting and carrying on my hip from time to time. Becky also has some great signature moves that I rarely see with other therapists which really make the session; one is that when you're on your back, she'll run her hands and forearms under you down your spine, sometimes all the way down to your waist, and then slowly pull them back out, using your body weight falling into her fingers to do work along your spine. The other is that she'll run one hand across the top of your chest just below your collarbone, from shoulder to shoulder with steady pressure, while running the other across the back of your shoulders under you. It's seriously like a massage hug; so comforting and soothing! Evolve itself is a nice little spot; they've just updated some of their decor, and it's kind of like walking into a very zen living room. Even though it's right on Highland Ave in a busy spot, I never hear any outside noise. I also super appreciate that the massage therapist usually rubs off any excess lotion or oil from your back and/or your feet at the end of the session, that the massage tables are heated, and that you can book appointments online. read more

I just got home from my mini spa / treat yourself day at Evolve and I am feeling SO relaxed & pampered. I started off my day with a massage by Chris. This was my first ever massage and it was MAGIC - Chris was great and made my first massage a great experience. He is extremely friendly and professional, which helped to put my first time massage jitters at ease. After my massage, I had a fantastic facial with Julie. My skin feels incredible and she gave me some great at-home tips to help me keep my skin looking fresh and clear all the time. She was also totally hilarious and had me cracking up the entire appointment - I'm not usually one for talking during my appointments, but Julie made me feel like I was just spending the hour catching up with an old friend. Excellent spa for a massage and facial. This area is not my fortay usually, but I got a certificate for Valentine's day from my husband this year and it turned out to be an amazing gift. I would never had thought about getting a facial, but it was so enjoyable and my skin was glowing for a week. The woman doing my facial was really friendly and she even explained everything she was doing the whole time. I apologize, as I forgot her name and can't refer you to her; I was like a happy drunk already after getting 60 minutes of massage. But her legacy is that her consultation changed my outlook on daily skincare for the better. This place is pricey, but it is worth it if you can spare the cash. The atmosphere is very relaxing and clean and the staff is very professional. I left after a massage and facial and felt like a new person. It was quite amazing. The products that they use for facials are high quality and largely organic. Parking can be tricky because of the location, so leave yourself some extra time to arrive. You'll also have to complete some paperwork too, so be aware of that as well. Treat yourself to some serious relaxation at Evolve whenever you can spare the time and cash. read more

I was given a gift certificate to this spa, and I went online to look at the services offered. I scheduled a one hour relaxation massage and an organic refresh facial. All the services were great, and performed extremely professionally, but at the end when I went to pay I was charged more than I had anticipated. When I booked, I asked for an Organic Refresh Facial, which looked like it was the only one of it's kind offered on their website. When I left I was so relaxed and thought maybe I read the prices wrong on the website, so I went home to check online. I called the next day to see what my exact charges were, and the receptionist explained that There is a 50 minute organic refresh facial (known as a Custom facial on their website) and a 25 minute organic refresh facial (known as an Organic Refresh Express facial on their website). When I booked, I asked for an organic refresh facial and left out the express since no other facial was listed as "organic refresh". However, they put it as a custom facial since I did not specify. I feel very misled and upset because my experience was so positive there, except for this event. If they have two facials with the same name, but different prices, they either need to specify this on their website, or clarify with the person who is booking the service - especially if the person have never been to the spa before. I wish that this hadn't happened because I did enjoy my services, but I don't feel comfortable returning. read more

Like some of the other reviewers, I checked out Evolve Wellness Spa because of a Groupon. I go to the Waffle Shop more times than I should admit but never noticed this place before and am glad I did buy the Groupon. Groupon was for a facial and massage. Unlike other spas that I have been to, I was not directed to a women's locker room to change (i changed simply where I got my first treatment and put the contents into a bag) which I thought was unusual but the spa is in a house so I went with it. Gosh - I just wanted to eat my own face during the facial! The woman giving me the treatment used organic fruity product and I just remember the sweet smell of strawberries and blueberries. And then I got my first hot stone massage and that was heavenly. The staff was incredibly friendly and I have since been thinking of when I will go back next. read more

Robin at the front desk was really nice and very helpful, she recommended a place to eat before hand and squeezed my boyfriend and I in for a couples massage/facial pretty last minute. My boyfriend said the massage was great and the facial was pretty awesome, it was a chocolate facial (valentines day) and it made me crave something sweet. Once the facial was completed I sat up and found two chocolate covered strawberries for us, talk about service. I went to Evolve Wellness Spa for the first time today. The reviews were wonderful, so I was looking forward to it. When I arrived, I had to fill out some paperwork indicating where I wanted the massage to be focused. I wrote and verbally told the masseuse I wanted the focus to be on my neck, back, and lower back. She then spent over half the time on my head, arms, and legs. By the time I thought she was going to get to my lower back, she told me the time was over and she'd meet me downstairs. I was really dissapointed after looking forward to this for weeks to still leave with such bad lower back pain. It could have just been my masseuse, but to spend 85$ and not have all my issues addressed was very dissapointing. read more

I'm very happy with the massage service I have received at Evolve. After reading the excellent reviews, I decided to buy the 3-month membership package--unlike certain unnamed chain spas, you don't have to pay a membership fee, so if you plan on getting 3+ massages or facials (or some combo), it's a great deal. I have gone to Becky for both of my massages and she has been really good in working with me on longer-term issues (e.g. posture) and ensuring that I still find the massage relaxing. I've had positive experiences with the other staff--there was an issue on my last visit with a dog barking, and they gave me a voucher for discounted services without me saying anything about it, and I stopped in a separate time to inquire about other services and the woman at the desk was courteous and helpful. I'm not much fussed about atmosphere, but I have to say I was impressed with the high-end feel despite the very reasonable prices. read more

Thanks to Groupon, I had a facial and massage here this past Saturday. The spa is in a converted old house. It is a great relaxing atmosphere. The staff are all really friendly and knowledgeable. This was the first facial I have had, it was pretty relaxing. The massage was really great. One of the best that I have ever had. The prices are reasonable, and if you book your next massage (not sure about any of the other services) right after your appointment, you will get 10 percent off, and 15 off the next time. This place is fantastic. I'm living on the road and have had six facials in six different cities - this might be one of my favorites. First, they were running fifteen minutes behind and out of courtesy called me about a half hour before my original appointment time to let me know. I really appreciated that. The facial itself was pretty much everything I want from a facial but don't always get - an attentive esthetician (in this case, the lovely Keri) who gives a lengthy décolleté massage as well as a hand and arm massage while the mask sets (too many times in the past my technician has cleaned her tools while the mask set or even straight up left the room for ten minutes). And especially considering my 50-minute facial was $85 (the least pricey facial I've ever had), this is total top-notch service. Huge bonus - not a single product was pushed on me. The only thing she recommended was to get myself some exfoliating pads. Love that. When I got to work afterwards, people were telling me I was glowing. I felt it, too. read more

I saw the strong reviews for Evolve Wellness Spa and thought I would give it a try. I called to see if they could fit me in for an afternoon appointment and there was one available, so I took it. Darius was my massage therapist and I would highly recommend him. We reviewed what gave me the most problems and the man knows his muscle groups. I was highly impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. He worked out many knots and even worked on my golf elbow issue that has been troubling me for months. Thank you Darius! I am a spa regular in my hometown of Washington, DC, so I'm picky about the facility and therapists. Looking for a girls' weekend treat for my sister, I found Evolve on Yelp. The old house in which it's located is spacious and walcoming, in no small part to the staff. I worked with Becky and my sister worked with Helen, and we both had 90 minute Swedish massages. On par with the best I've had in DC and beyond. Helen and Becky were both technically great, as well as having a really good sense for 'reading' clients. Like silence during your session? No problem. Like talking during your session? No problem - they're both professional and very friendly. The manager, Robin, is delightful, and made the visit extra-special for us. She also took the time at the end of the day to share some of her favorite kale recipies with my sister. Highly, highly recommended. Note: a vegan mani-pedi is offered. EVOLVE MONTHLY CLUB PLAN: They offer a monthly 'club' plan where you pay $59/month auto-billed on your credit card, and in return you not only get your choice of a 60 minute massage OR facial OR mani-pedi, you get a standing 'club rate' of $59 for any ADDITIONAL services you buy during the month. That's amazing for 'frequent fliers' - and you get the traditional spa experience, instead of the more clinical "physical therapy" feeling that comes with massage chains. My daughter brought me there as a Mother's Day gift. I had a facial with Lauren....my first facial! It was FANTASTIC! She was excellent! Very calming, and my face felt wonderful. It was so relaxing....I fell asleep! I am hooked on facials! Blake did my massage.....again..FANTASTIC! Before we got started, he asked me if there were any areas I was having problems with. I told him that I just started to walk again so my hips hurt. Well...he not only gave a great massage, but he also massaged my feet! Thought I'd died and gone to heaven!
