We were in the area on other business and decided stop in. It was around lunch time so they were a bit busy with a small line to sit inside to eat. We heard they are known for their BBQ, but today we tried the burgers w/ onion rings and a side of fries along with a fountain drink. The staff was super helpful with the menu items as we were first timers there. The food very good and they gave you nice sized portion that was reasonably priced. I then ordered a chocolate shake and walked around the dining room to check out the old school memorabilia along w/ pictures and the story of the diner from more then 80 years ago. Came in for a late dinner after working on fences at the farm. Service was friendly, prices were good, burger was tasty and the milkshake was great. No handicap accessible entrance, my mother in law has a hard time getting in, and the bathrooms need some maintenance, but overall a nice bbq/burger joint that has been around for 4 generations. We ate lunch on a Saturday. This is a typical "old-school" BBQ joint. I'm extremely crippled with a broken back. I had to climb stairs for entry. I am a local in Perryville and I hate this place. The dining room is narrow and tiny. My first and only experience was with take-out. I was polite, and asked to place a take-out order. The order taker was rude and acted like I should know how to order even though I told her it was my first time. When I showed up, nobody greeted me and I had to ask about my order. Then they handed me $30 worth of barbeque out of the refrigerator. Apparently their family meals are only sold chilled and you have to heat it up yourself at home. She could have at least told me this was the case. When you order take-out, you're expecting something hot and ready to eat, right? I was mad but I took it and went home. By this time my kids were hungry and I was COOKING when I had purposely ordered take out so I didn't have to cook. I heated up the barbeque in a saucepan and it was absolutely nasty. Hard slices of pork with a sweet and uninspiring sauce. We threw it away and got McDonalds that night, no joke. The only other restaurant in Perryville that's this bad is the Five Star Chinese place by Wal-Mart. Yuck. read more

They are a staple to the Perryville community. I love their burgers, onion rings, fries and milkshakes! It is both nostalgia and plain out good food! Not a fan of any BBQ so I never get it, so I can't tell you about it. Also the best chocolate milkshakes (I have mine made with chocolate ice cream). read more

Went here just a few weeks ago. This was the most disgusting food I have ever had the displeasure of tasting. This food is not fit to feed to inmates as it would be considered cruel and unusual punishment. They are not even decent enough to be considered a sandwich shop. Tried asking about items on the menu and the staff could not answer the most basic of questions. Gave a review on their Facebook page and one of their customers...or might be an owner for all I know attacked my review stating that I was rude because I told them they need to not refer to themselves as a BBQ place. Born and raised in Perryville but live elsewhere....and unfortunately I can only muster a one star rating....we've tried Ewalds twice in the last 6 months with the same results. Most severe criticism is the "don't care" folks that work there...both times we were treated as a nuisance...sullen attitude with nary a smile. We were never greeted, never heard a "thank you"...but sort of impatiently glared at while we ordered. Second issue is simply....and unfortunately..... the food is just not that special. Mediocre at best. I am a fan of Perryville and would really like to give them a 5 star rating..and hope the owners take the time to train the folks that work for them....I guess it's hard to find good help...but a few pointers on how to smile, ability to answer questions about the menu or at minimum pretend to happy you are there...might make the mediocre food taste a tad better. There are MUCH better places to eat in Perryville only a few block away. Lastly, the place is somewhat of an eyesore which is an immediate turn-off. In my opinion, the place could be a gold mine with some effort placed on customer service and kicking up the quality and taste of the food. read more
