I explained to Tom that I was stuck at work serving our Veterans and he graciously did my measurements and I fully expected an estimate that was promised. I asked he he wanted to reschedule he said no it's not a problem. He noted all the issues and made suggestions. I was just really disappointed by the owners response to me to not even give me the estimate. My money will be will spent with another more reputable company. I wanted to have a new deck built off the back of my house and I got so much more than a simple deck from Excel. Tom was genuinely excited for my deck project and he came up with the idea of turning the underneath of the deck into a play fort for my 5 year old daughter.....something I would have never thought of but that makes so much sense since I live in the city and don't have a very big backyard. Tom was patient and attentive and readily available from the start of the project to the finish. He wanted to make the deck perfect for me and the fort perfect for my daughter and it turned out better than I could have expected. The work crew paid close attention to every little detail and took their time to complete the job the right way. My daughter loves her special play area and is so excited to show it to her friends....and I am excited to relax with a glass of wine on my beautiful deck. Once the deck and play fort were completed, Tom even dropped off some extras to make it even more special for my daughter including a set of pink walkie talkies. Amazing experience. We had Excel three times for a quote over the years before finally pulling the trigger. Their rates have stayed reasonable even through the increase in lumbers costs over the past few years. They are able to get our deck up in 3 days even though the weather was less than ideal. They also installed a fence for us. The only hold up in getting the projects completed was waiting on the city to approve the permits. read more

The funniest part of all of this, is that I'm not even their customer. My neighbor contracted with them to build a fence and a deck for them. My husband and I came home to our yard torn up because their delivery subcontractor drove over our yard tearing up sod and leaving deep ruts. Their fix was to drive over the ruts with other equipment and fill things in with dirt...on top of the existing sod. Sending an email and trying to talk (well, yell) over the phone means we are blocked by their office staff. I guess we can let our attorney do the talking from this point forward. Built a fence for a neighbor and butted it up to my townhouse, leaving the corner of my home on the other side of the fence, left debris, trash, concrete in my yard, killed/pulled up some of my plants and trampled others, and damaged my siding. I DO NOT recommend working with Excel Fencing. We used them to install a fence around our single family home. I was under the impression it was going to be built to the specifications as indicated on our plot plan. We've had issues arise recently where I believe the fence was not installed to the correct measurements. I tried reaching out to Excel Fencing with no reply. My wife reached out and spoke with Charlie (who worked with us on the build) and he was highly inappropriate with her on the phone, he spoke very condescending and rude to her and accused us of trying to get something free from them. All we asked was to have them remeasure the fence to clarify if it was installed correctly. They flat out refused to do so. They wanted to charge us $200 to come out and measure. Something they do for free for quotes. This tells me they know they installed it incorrectly and don't stand by their product of their customer service. If I had to do it again I would use another company. Their Facebook page says the job isn't done until we are 100% satisfied with the job. Well we aren't satisfied. Poor customer service once they get your money! read more

Worked with Excel to build stairs onto the back of our deck. They did a reasonable job. Charlie is a good guy - seems very busy. The Excel crew was very pleasant, pretty easy to work with. The quality of their work is mediocre - lots of mistakes, had to come back to make repairs. For example; 1) when they installed the rails they were crooked (needed to fix them myself), and 2) they left material on the site for 5 days, on the grass, subsequently killing the grass where the material was stacked. They made other minor mistakes that they came back to fix, some were fixed, others were missed. read more

They installed my fence leaving a 10 ft. opening (contrary to a drawing on contract) then harassed us for $200 more to finish the job. Had to give one star to post. Not deserved. I find it very interesting that someone in Olney, MD gave this company such rave reviews when we could not even get them to come to a residence within their own county for an estimate! Waited a week for someone to give us an estimate; day of the estimate, estimator calls and says we are "too far out" and "we don't even service that area". Amazing. I thought Bel Air and Norrisville area were within the same county! Estimator got fed up with not being able to find the home and was even rude about it! And when we tried to re-schedule with the office, we were told we'd have to wait another week for estimator to come out! Company obviously did NOT want our business, which is a shame. One of their competitors will now be getting the job. Would not recommend and will not deal with the company again. read more

Their owner supervises every project himself and does a final check-up, instead of just staying in his office. His crew is highly qualified, and unlike many other companies they do not outsource cheaper in-experts.
