First let me say that I moved here recently & have been on the hunt for a nail salon I can come back to. I decided to start using yelp because I'm appalled at what I've gone through in my search. Flooded cuticles, severe lifting, lumpy, ridged surfaces, swollen cuticles, exorbitant prices for generally bad service and of course, super rude techs. I'm skeptical everywhere I go now. I decided to try Excel after seeing their work on a girl at my local Chinese restaurant. The nails I had on were good enough to be filled as if already fixed them after my last bad manicure, but I had one that had snapped off and been glued back. The woman who worked on me swore she didn't need to replace it and I absolutely didn't believe her, but it's been a week and it's still secure so apparently she did a fine job fixing it. I had her reshape my tips as well and they're all even and have the same amount of point to them. The nails themselves are completely smooth, not obnoxiously thick but thick enough to be strong, and honestly the best work I've had done since moving to Maine. I'm obsessed with holographic nails, and they don't look good unless the nail is smooth and has a nice curve to it - they do the holo powder here in a bunch of colors, and it came out amazing. I went to NYC for the weekend and got too many compliments to count - and compliments from strangers are very rare in the city so that means something! I did end up with a tiny nick on one of my cuticles from the drill, but it was small and healed within a couple days with no infection or swelling. Accidents happen and as long as the equipment is clean it's not a huge deal to me. I work full time and beat on my hands, so having nails that are strong and prepped properly so they adhere well is most important. These are holding up well through lots of abuse with no lifting whatsoever. I will definitely be back for my fill, and if all goes well I will hopefully be a regular here for a long time read more

I walked in and was greeted quickly by a few people. They were super kind people. They said they could take me right away. They finished up with a client, and I got moved into the pedicure chair. There was quiet a few people here getting nails done. I got a basic pedi. I got a pumice stone, I got lotion, a small rub, and it was okay. My toes were okay. The pink is holding up but it's still cold out. Upon sitting down, they had to move some trash away, there was clippings all over the floor, and the man that did my toes did not speak English. It seems only a couple people spoke English. Not a big deal, but they were yelling across the salon to communicate with me. I can't say I loved the vibe. There were people here that clearly knew some of the staff and were having great conversation. But I was with someone that didn't speak to me once, and my nails are just okay. But you can get in and out fairly quick I suppose. $37 for a basic pedi. I also used the bathroom, and it was pretty dirty, which was a major turnoff as well. I have been meaning to post this it's been some time. I got there late because they expect cash if you can and I went to get some for the discount. They sat me down with foil on my fingers to take off the gel and left me there for almost an hour. Other customers came in as walk in and were seen especially for both mani and pedi. People noticed and were whispering things to each other feeling bad. And were even saying to staff, that lady was here before me etc. They kept their heads down and ignored the customers continuing with their nails. I got fed up and left taking off the foil. I went in there the other day, not from the area. The guy didn't use any pumice stone or grater on bottom of feet. Then my mani, the polish was streaky, told him I didn't have anymore time. 21/2 hrs later, $89 later. Waste of my time and money. I'm going to have a chargeback full refund from my bank. My friend and I went to get our fingers and toes done the other day.. literally 3 days ago. And every single one of my nails are cracked already. They over charged her for a pedicure... it was $30 and they charged her $50, and added 7 coats to each nail. Don't waste your time or money, they suck and they rush. I have been to excel nails 3 times now and have always had a great experience. Today I was in for a pedicure and a nail fix(just a chip of shellac came off one finger). The pedicure was relaxing and wonderful. I just had the basic due to time but it was great! I assumed I would have to pay for the nail fix but was pleasantly surprised and there was no charge. Moon, my technician, went above and beyond by not only fixing that nail but touching up the ends of all my other nails on both hands. Moon is very meticulous and thoughtful while performing her job. I've been to many nail salons and honestly, the best I've had so far. Thank you for your professionalism and swift quality service!!! I'll be back. On a side note, the owner, not sure of her name, might just be the sweetest lady ever! I went with my daughter and son-in-law to get pedicures. we were seated together and their service was good not excellent. The male technician I had doesn't like his job. He kept scraping the side of my toe with the scraper device and I am sitting here putting bacitracin and a bandage on it. I tried to pull my foot away but he kept going back to it. He did a fair job on my pedicure but was very ruff with foot handling. For me this was not a pleasant experience. read more

I would give this place negative stars if I could. I went to get a French shellac manicure before work and it was the worst experience ever and here's why: 1) "Joe" my nail stylist was yelling in Vietnamese st two other employees as I waited for him to work on my nails. It was horribly uncomfortable! 2) My stylist and the surrounding environment was disgusting. He kept wiping his dripping nose on the back of his hands. 3) He made two of my cuticles bleed 4) The appointment last 90 minutes!!!! Two of the shellac nails fell off after he wiped them so this delayed the process along with him having to redo the white tips many many times per nail. 5) Afterward he fixes everything and we are all done, I reach my hand in my pocket only to discover Jean fuzz ALL over my "completed nails" 6) Another employee comes over to help him out because obviously this is taking him way to long with way to many problems. 7) They fix everything again and I finally pay (full price AND TIP 20%!) I ask if I can come back if something happens bc I am concerned of the quality....... they say yes. Within 2 hours 3 of the shellac nails fall off... the end of the night, I have 2 nails intact. I call and ask if I can come back and they said yes. They wanted me to come in right away; so I did. My cuticles are still badly damaged from him making me bleed and they are still sore. I go back to the salon the following business day and REQUEST they re-shellac my nails another time so that my cuticles can heal. She tells me that I have to do it right now or never. I told her that it made no difference whether they were all repainted TODAY or in 5 days........ she disagreed and told me to "just sit" and I will not "just sit" and have a service done to me that I do NOT want done just because it is convenient for YOU!! Bottom line: You took money for a service that you provided POORLY and then made no real effort to rectify the situation with YOUR customer. I will be enjoying a manicure elsewhere. In read more

They're reasonably priced, and do a great job, but if you make an appointment, be ready to wait, or if you're in a time crunch, don't. I just went, I had an appointment for 3, I went in and they said can you come back at four? I said no, that's to long of a wait, she said she was short handed, they knew that before I made my appointment, and a few weeks ago same thing, I had an appointment for three they started my nails around 4, they didn't even tell me. I LOVE this place. I have been here just about every two weeks for years- 4 or 5 at least- and I have progressed from regular mani/pedi to shellac mani/ regular pedi to dip mani/shellac spa pedi. I have never had a bad experience with any of the nail techs, or the owners... Tangie and Jordan. They are wonderfully responsive and considerate. I have read some of the other reviews and I think you meant to leave a bad review for some other place, certainly not this one! Whenever I go in, always without an appointment, my wait time - even when it is summer busy - is minimal. Tangie knows just how to manage the time very professionally and I am happy to wait for such good service anyway The renovations they have just done are gorgeous and very glamorous. We walked in my friend and I and were told they could take us right now for two pedicures. After waiting 20 minutes they started my friends pedicure and I inquired again on the wait. Several times I was told someone would be right over. I waited another 25 minutes and as they were finishing my friend they told me they were going to be ready for me. The lady in charge was rude to me and several times yelled at me saying it would be " right now" after I expressed my frustration that it had been 45 minutes and we would have never stayed if I knew only of us would get a pedicure. If you don't know much about nails or don't mind low-quality nails, this place isn't bad. They do take shortcuts very often and I have had to come back multiple times because they screwed my nails up. They don't often do my cuticles, my acrylic nails are usually crooked and at different lengths. I've given them many chances, being a customer for two years, but they haven't improved in quality at all. I understand having good days and bad days, but all in all, they usually do a bad job more often than they do a good job. I've been going to other places around Windham and got better and more consistent results. If you absolutely have to go there, ask for the male owner because he is great. He's the only one that is consistently good at what he does. He's the only reason I didn't give this place one star. DO NOT GET YOUR EYEBROWS DONE HERE! read more

If I could give this zero stars I would. After taking off my gel manicure and filing my nails down. The young boy started polishing. Not only was there still polish on my nails, and powder on my fingers but my nails were bumpy and had not been buffed. I immediately told him to stop and showed him. The pregnant woman came out and started yelling at me if I don't like the way he did it I should leave. I got up and started walking out. They then screamed I owe them $10 because they took off my polish and he somewhat filed my nails. No cuticles were cut nor were the side smooth. I was not going to pay but did in the end. Biggest waste of $10. I also reminded them that no other salon in the area charge for polish removal. She told me not to come back and go somewhere else. I have been here twice. The first time with my daughter we both had manis and pedis. We both loved them. They were done well with little wait. Even the conversation was nice. My second trip... Although just as pleasant the polish wasn't done much better than what I could have done myself with shaky hands. I will be back. I have been here several times for pedicures. The service is always prompt, but sometimes a little rushed depending on who you get. Lots of choices in services and colors, reasonably priced. One negative would be that the place is a bit run down and dirty. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. Went for a pedicure for myself and my daughter wanted a full set done. Was told ten minute wait. The gentleman working got me set up. 45 minutes later the rest of the staff showed up. By this time my feet were in cold water. I politely asked for fresh hot water to start my pedi. The woman added what started to out as freezing cold water to Luke warm. I already saw where this was going for an experience but I made the decision to stay. She cut my cuticles on my toes. Instead of the typical massage she scratched the bottoms of my feet which was just weird. I chose a pretty fall purple for my toes which came out black. My toe nail on my big toe is jacked up and will most likely become ingrown from the way she cut them. Not to mention spraying straight up rubbing alcohol on my cut cuticles. By far the worst pedicure I've ever received. Mind you my daughters nails had not even been started yet. In all we were there for 2 hours and $100 later and I left disappointed. If I had another hour to kill I would have asked for my nails to be repainted another color but I just wanted out of there. I have never wanted my toenails to grow out so fast in my life. Not to mention while waiting for my daughter to be finished I noticed a cute decorative set up that Is placed in a hole in the wall. Inside that wall was two cups of what looked like rotten tea, a bagel, package of ritz crackers, and a bowl of garlic. Every nail place I have ever been to the staff is personable and make you feel comfortable. I was never asked what type of pedi I wanted (which I'm glad because $30 for what I got is painful enough) nor did she ask if I was happy with it. Went in to get a full set done. I asked for gel and she demanded that I do dip. The guy who did my nails did horrible. They are so short and I asked for long and he demanded he do short nails. There was no acrylic powder involved. He dipped my nails into this weird powder just on the tip of the nails. He then proceeded to dip my nails into the color she forced me to pick and dipped them 8 times into it to make it look like it was acrylic. He then touched my nails before they were dry and had to buff off the top coat. He did it backwards the first time. I will not be going back there ever. Don't treat your paying costumers like garbage! If you tell someone a price 3 times stick to an withhold that price.. especially in a nail salon that doesn't have every little thing priced! So add that on to the 10$ she raised in the price.. and tell me for just French dipped would you pay 65$ for a set of nails ? No. Going on. She made a comment " well, if you don't wanna pay that price we can't take those nails off and give you ones you can pay for " That truly made me VERY mad. If I could rate this salon a zero I would, worst nail experience of my life. My maid-of honor and I came in as walk ins to each get a set of acrylics for my wedding. The woman working there convinced us to try the dip powder nails, I've always wanted to try the dip powder so my m-o-h and I agreed to both get a set. We were told it would be a twenty minute wait, which we didn't mind because we were walk-ins and understood appointments come first. I had asked for a simple pink and white French tip, with it being my wedding coming up I asked the man who was working on my nails several times "will this looks just like regular acrylics?" To be reassured each time my nails would look just beautiful. Skip forward to halfway through the appointment and I pointed out that my nails had small bubbles forming on the surface of each nail, I pointed it out once and was told it would go away with the top coat. When he was finished and I had washed my hands the bubbles were still there, even more so than before. I pointed them out yet again to be told that it was my natural nail and I had come in with them looking like that, finally after a minute of me almost crying in the chair over how horrible they had come out, to note he also never cleaned up the sides of my nails so dried acrylic was everywhere. The woman who had done my M-o-h nails came over and said the only way she could "fix" it was to polish over it and that it would be an extra $10 charge, I said fine as long as the bubbles were covered. She sloppily painted over my nails, all while conversing with the man who originally did them. Charged me $90 and as soon as she saw I wasn't going to be leaving a tip she began throwing things behind the counter and yelling, to the point where I felt uncomfortable for the poor customer still in the salon. Will NEVER return to Excel Nails!!! My first visit there, hubby & I had mani/Pedi's.. $140 later.... They talked me into the 'dip'.. pricy, but I'm worth it.... Mind you, I have natural nails... Fast forward 3 weeks - one of the dipped fingernails is completely gone. I go in to have a new manicure; waited about 15 minutes, which is okay.. I'm told to chose a color - 15-20 spools of colored nails to chose from.. I pick a color - lady tells me that color is $10 more!! What?!?!.. I chose another color - lady tells me that color is $3 more!! What the heck?!?!?! Okay, I'll do the $3 more this time -- I'm worth it right??? Let us begin..... She removes the 9 remaining dipped finger nails by using acetone (typical with shellac nails, so I'm okay with that) - my nails soaked in this acetone for about 15 minutes.. Next she takes her electric 'drill' filer/shaver and files the remaining 'residue' - shaving off my natural nail in the process. I actually questioned her, isn't this doing more damage to my natural nail than just using regular shellac nail polish? She tells me no, but I know better... She starts with a base coat - I ask, shouldn't you be using a dehydrator on my nails before you start to polish? She gave me 'the look'... She dipped the polish brush into the polish 2 times to do my whole hand.. I have long nails so she should be dipping that brush with every nail!!! Nope!! I think to myself, whatever --- she finishes polishing (if that's what you want to call it) and uses this 'scrub' on my hands, didn't massage my hands or anything, just kind of moved the 'scrub' around and proceeded to tell me to wash my hands - okay - hand washing away!! I go back to my chair ready for the lotion and gentle hand and arm massage - nope - she tells me I'm done.. I asked about lotion and she said, it's over there, you can do it yourself.. Are you kidding me?!?!?! I go to pay, she tells me $41.00!! I said $41.00?!?!?! She said yes, $28 for the manicure, $3 extra for the expensive polish color I chose and $10 to remove the dip.. I'm pretty steamed now, so I told her, but you only removed 9 dipped nails.. She said next time there won't be a $10 charge to remove because I used the shellac polish this time - my response - there won't be a next time!!! read more

My mother and I came to have a manicure and pedicure (I upgraded to gel). We each had a simple pedicure (meaning no callus remover gel, no callus remover more than a two-second swipe with a purple pumice remover used on many clients). We overheard another client stating that she has pedicures regularly at other salons, and she was disappointed with the service. I felt the same way, given I have a pedicure every three weeks. This was the worst I have ever received. It felt very rushed, the owner was trying to upsell, and charged the "spa pedicure rate" instead of "regular pedicure rate" that we were not offered or provided knowledge of prior. Is a "spa pedicure rate" involving lotion and a 2-minute message...because that is a regular pedicure. The space was dirty, not sanitary, and I felt uncomfortable the entire time as the tools used were not sterile. It was obvious that the equipment is used over and over from client to client without any sanitary protocol. We will not return. I highly recommend cleaning your salon and adhering to sanitary protocols, at the bare minimum, as clients are a one-stop mentality, unless clients returning and being loyal is not the goal. read more

Today is 6/6/ 2018. I went to Excel Nails in Windham, Maine to have my nails done.. a fill was to be done!! $17 was the board price!! Before sitting down, the young girl handed me a large basket with color wheels and told me to choose a color!! A large selection of colors, I asked her if I could choose any colors and she said YES. I chose a light lavender from that same basket!! She did a nice job and my nails look very good!! Upon going to the register to pay her, she said ". $29.00. As I gasped at the price, she said $17 for fill, $3.00 for repair. (Yes, one nail needed a little repair). Then she said. $9.00 for that color polish!! Are you serious?? So, I paid the $29 with my Mother's Day Gift card!! Left her a $5 tip and will NEVER GO BACK!! We discussed the dipping nails and I gave it serious thought but $50 is a lot of money on a retiree income!! Keep your $9 but you lost a good customer!! They are able to get you in quickly and out slowly. The general experience felt like an assembly line. For the inexperienced nail salon goer, beware. They upgrade the products you are using without informing you of the additional charge. The payment sign is positioned in a place that you can not refer to it from most seats in the salon. The nail art quality was low end. The ventilation was poor. A very controversial television program auditorily dominated the room. When a customer requested to change the channel, the staff declined. If you try them out, you might have to pay attention to the quality of the work being done. read more
