From registration through discharge the staff were accommodating and helpful. Our team of PA Tanner, Joshua the nurse, and Jessica the tech all listened to concerns and provided immediate assistance as well as explanation of treatment. Staff were friendly and got to know the patient and spouse. They were efficient but didn't appear to be rushed when pricing treatment. My husband came in for back issues and we were in and out in a couple of hours. read more

My boyfriend had gotten into an accident on his motorcycle and we came here because it was the closest hospital. We waited an exceptionally long time until we were seen despite how much pain he was in. After we finally got called back into the room they treated him as if it was a joking situation. They wanted to put him to sleep using ketamine and he was very concerned and instead of comforting him on the drug they got offended by his questions. Now once he finally decided to let them put him to sleep they had told me that i might want to leave the room because when he wakes up he might tell me that i am going to hear about how he might talk about other girls he likes... as i am his girlfriend trying to stay by his side in a very traumatic situation for the BOTH of us. As he was waking up they brought a fake hand in the room to make him freak out even more to make him seem he had lost his arm. ketamine isn't a drug you wake up from and expect A DOCTOR to "prank" you. After 10 minutes of him being awake he told me to get the doctor because he was going to throw up due to there being too much medicine in his system, when i went to grab the doctor he acted annoyed and didn't hold the vomit bag up to his mouth so he vomited all over his shirt. VERY UNPROFFESIONAL EXPERIENCE. they made his wrist WORSE. he had to go to a specialist to get his wrist ALIGNED BETTER. Overall experience was from hell out of 10. read more

Where to start. Typically we have ok treatment here. But today when my wife had a pancreatic issue the ER Doctor Brett Beloud treated her like a drug seeker from the very beginning asking multiple times if she has "pain medication at home." Ran labs but discharged her without anything other than a abdominal pain plan. This is unacceptable as my wife has been admitted multiple times at this ER and despite the emergency issues has been helpful. If Doctor Beloud would have read her chart and previous history he would see she has devisum of her pancreas so you won't see swelling with a CT scan. Note if I need to take her to another hospital I have zero information to share with the new hospital. read more

My wife went there and returned in worse condition with no plan for her care and pain, so I drove there and spoke with the so called doctor getting his explanation, and the doctor basically said he is Mormon and had a religious hang up, so that inhibits his care practices to the point of not providing certain proven scientific care and offering unnecessary other care that doesn't even relate to source issue, which then he introduces another danger that doesn't need to be there. What if my wife had an adverse reaction to a med she never needed? He was basically saying because I'm Mormon I can't help you because we don't believe in that. Definitely malpractice. What kind of doctors offer meds knowingly it won't help? This is a common practice at this hospital. The doctors most definitely operate from personal bias. The only benefit of going there was that the doctor provided other references for other medical people that could actually possibly make a difference. This is not the right doctor, if you come in there with your leg or mouth falling off he is going to disregard you, prescribe you gabapentin and amend you on your way. This doctor is a danger to society! What is really weird is that why would a Mormon doctor that doesn't believe in this stuff apply for a position that requires immediate care intensive practices which go against his religion? If you go in there with an issue that needs immediate intensive medical care, they will be sent off to another hospital (no care). I realized this place no real equipment to handle anything. They are just as good as a first aid kit from Walmart. It is weird for a Mormon doctor that doesn't believe in this type of intensive practices but is also trying to specifically work in an ER? As a doctor specifically with the ER there are probably a lot of personal bias you must disregard and it's part of the job the this one managed somehow to slither around that. Your job is to provide health care not how you think people should live. This specific doctor forgot what the real reason to being a doctor is or never really cared or learned what that is. Extremely cold demeanor. What was worst was that apparently it was his way or the highway. Don't really know where they teach that in medical school. He seems to operate from an in between space of some schooling and religious beliefs. I did get chastised by him because I called him a masochist, but that my personal opinion. read more

I keep trying to this them a chance and every time I go, I am reminded of why I should have gone somewhere else or called 911. After this last time, I will not be going back as I value my life and don't believe they would have saved it tonight. I suffered a stroke in December and now have functional seizures. In February, I went in with seizures and they sent me home and labeled it as a psych issue until I corrected them on it. Two days later I was in the ICU at Chandler Regional. This evening, I went in with stroke symptoms (face drooping, weakness, unable to talk) and it was not taken seriously. From the start they kept asking me questions and I couldn't answer because I couldn't speak. They also kept trying to get me to sit up and I could barely stand but I somehow managed. There was also no rush, it didn't seem like they cared that every moment was crucial should it have been a true stroke like I've had in the past. The nurse was also very aggressive with me and I quote said "she has shit for veins" and persisted to poke me 5 times until another nurse got the IV. One of the times, she hit a nerve and it sent a shock like pain throughout my entire arm. Since I'm already on blood thinners I bruise pretty easily but 5 pokes? It was time to get someone else because I am a hard stick. The whole time though she was very rough with me including throwing my weak arm around like a ragdoll. Then, I sat there in a room wondering what next steps were for several minutes which is unacceptable when it comes to strokes. The dr came in and from the beginning, he seemed very dismissive like he didn't believe me. I have a long history of strokes and TIA's and realistically, they should have transferred me knowing the long list of neurological issues. The dr also offered to treat me for a headache which I never received and after you have a stroke or TIA, you have a very bad headache. I've also been labeled a drug seeker there even when I never ask for pain meds. I imagine I'll end up back in ICU again within the week and if this place did their job correctly, things wouldn't progress to the level they do because they just send people home. Shame on you exceptional. It seems you blanket everyone under the same bucket and don't believe people even when they have symptoms right in front of you. read more

The service wasn't bad. I was actually seen very quickly for shoulder and spine/neck pain. Labs and tests were all immediately run and the checkin was also smooth. Maybe this is a me thing because I have really bad social anxiety, but I did kind of feel like I was more of a nuisance than a patient. Once the EKG exam came back, it was more of a whatever response. Which I guess I get, but it made me feel stupid anyway for going in, all for nothing. Would I go back? Sure. At least they took care of me. But I couldn't wait to get out so I could escape what felt like a couple of judgmental stares for wasting their time. That's not to say Staff were terrible. They were all pretty nice. But it still felt a little forced. A $300 copay later, I was sent home by a nurse (the doctor didn't even come to see me afterwards) and told to go see my doctor for a follow-up. read more

If I could double the stars I would. I came into the ER on Wed 4/9/25 about 5am and after being greeted at the car with a wheelchair, the staff went into stealth mode because I was so weak and sick. When they took me in the back and began assessing me, they discovered I was REALLY sick and made sure I received everything I needed to stableize me and then I was airlifted to Abbrazzo Hospital in Goodyear. Their diagnosis was spot on. I had acute sepsis and my labs were all over the place including low blood pressure. ECH saff that night saved my life and I am foever grateful for their compassion, professionalism and expertise shown! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ECH!! read more

The great staff here *literally* saved my life! When my PC doctor sent me home still sick that morning, my wife took me here. There testing was extensive, and my shortness of breath ended up being blood clots in my lungs! They immediately called for a helicopter ambulance (thanks Spirit) which flew me to Phoenix in the middle of the night where Banner Thunderbird preformed a life-saving procedure the next day. if I had to choose between dying and going here....i would die. MOST (not all) of the staff are NOT friendly in any way, they down play symptoms as if they can't see you are actually in pain and in need of a hospital, each time we had to go to a different ER because this one never seems to know what's wrong with you or they give some bs to send you on your way (several times we were given the wrong/ rushed diagnosis). Also, it takes them 9 hours to do blood work and not even give you the results so expect a wait. This has happened multiple times I'm actually appalled these people are still in business!! read more

They discharged us leaving worse than what we came in for and she said "there was nothing she could do for us and to follow-up with a PCP". She read the blood results incorrectly and couldn't tell us a diagnosis, what to do, or how to help my ill father. I would never recommend this place! I went in for a CT scan on my rib. I was taken care of almost immediately. There wasn't a lot of beds but they made sure I was comfortable. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. If you can go to an ER in Chandler or somewhere in town I would advise doing so. This hospital is only looking for money and quick fixes. I am a healthy 25 years old that went in with a severe headache, numbness on the right side of my face, and loss of sensation to the left side of my body (I couldn't feel hot or cold water or touch) which had been going on for a week. Dr Brad Green only focused on my headache and for some odd reason, he ordered a chest X-ray. He ended up diagnosing me with pneumonia yet I had no pneumonia symptoms. He and nurse Jennifer kept saying migraines affect everyone differently. They said pneumonia can cause these types of symptoms. Still never acknowledging the neurological symptoms I had. Nurse Jennifer was going on about how it could be hormones. Which I doubt as I've gone through hormones in my TEENAGE YEARS. I had little to no energy to disagree. I had been feeling this way for over a week. I was not eating I was constantly dizzy. Anyways I believed what they said and I was sent home with pneumonia medication. A week later I went to urgent care for a follow-up for a chest X-ray and I told him that I was still having the same symptoms now going on two weeks. He was shocked to hear that they did no neurological test and strongly advised me to go to an ER in town to do a CT or MRI as Exceptional ER didn't do anything even a basic test like poking my legs with a sharp or dull object to see if I felt a difference, or even a CT as they advertised they have one. I went to Banner in Chandler and they ran actual tests and saw I had a brain bleed. This could've been caught when I first went to the ER instead they charged me $2,000 to be in Exceptional for under 3 hours and misdiagnosed me with pneumonia. I would never recommend this place. The nurses were too busy talking about the music Dr Brad Green was playing while I was vomiting. It's a disgrace that they call themselves nurses and doctors. This place is EXCEPIONALLY BAD. read more

This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. Not only was the staff not personable. The charge nurse Angela is the worst. My father was admitted due to cardiac issues waiting to be transferred to a different facility. We couldn't get straightforward information from anyone. No one seem to care and most of the staff was huddled, having sidebar conversations. Mind you, the lobby was packed. Disgusted by the service I asked for the charge nurse who is named Angela. She was very dismissive not once apologized nor asked how she could make the situation better. I don't even see how she's the charge nurse. She has a horrible attitude. The only good thing about this experience was my father's direct nurse that came on the second day named Heather . Not only was she very informative in keeping us in the loop, her bedside matters were sincere. I cannot begin to express my sincere appreciation for her during the stressful situation. Admittedly, I came in with high concern for what was causing my symptoms. The welcoming smiles and positive energy from the young ladies up front made me feel better mentally because I knew I was at the right place. Vien is the NP that took care of me today and she is quite phenomenal. Franciso also helped during my visit and was great. I wish I could remember the names of the ladies up front and the nurse who took my vitals. Everyone there was empathetic, professional, and kind. I have been there 2x now once for myself once for my son. The nurses and doctors were super quick for me and they took their time for my son he's 4 and they got him 6 stitches in and out with only a few tears! Office staff was nice on entry and triage nurse was very caring! So glad to have another option from YRMC they have proven to my family time and time again they are not capable! I went in for severe headache. Doctor seemed rude and dismissive at first. But after he could see he had upset me, he changed his demeanor and was very helpful and thorough. At least I'm probably not dying based on ct scan - and I was certainly afraid that I might be after spitting up pink phlegm this morning. They could do better. I was scared and feeling very unwell. I went to Exceptional Urgent Care at the right time, to get the right Dr to get the right treatment and care. Im a RN who work nightshift at a Heart Hospital, in which I was assisting the CNA pull up a parient, 4 nights in a row 12 hr nights, 2-3 times per shift, I had intense pain which made me SOB. Dr Colonna took time to examine my body and felt the muscle spasm ACTUALLY when it was spasming. I got toradal injection, stéroïd injection, and do you know he actually gave me a back massage and worked the tightness out my back AND MADE IT POP. I never felt my back pop, it was so relieving. Dr Colonna has also a specialty in Physical Therapy of muscles of some sort. He showed me proper technique to stretch my back twice a day. I got prescription for pain relief and muscle relaxer. This was my best ER experience in my 51 years I can remember as an adult. I also want to give a special Thank You to Ashley RN, she was so sweet and tender. I didnt even feel the IM injection in my thigh . I was actually afraid, Im the nurse that give shots, start IVs, but hate needles . This hospital lives up to its name for sure! I was in a ton of pain and was able to get in right away and felt like everyone cared. The front desk clerk was amazing and welcoming. The gentleman that did our initial vitals who use to be a firefighter was great! Nurse Tracy, Nurse Rochelle, and Doctor Gilbert were phenomenal. The genuine care and concern made me feel better about everything. The attention to detail and acting on it right away was reassuring we made the right choice going there. We didn't get to finish our procedure there due to needing surgery, but starting there was amazing. Thank you all! read more

I took my wife to the ER around 4:30am 11-25-24 because she was feeling very ill and had an intense headache. We were checked in and brought to ER room 7. They did all the vitals and took blood for labs. Dr. Johns told my wife that she could have influenza or heart failure or blood clots. Dr. Johns took an CT of her chest. When the results came back, he told her that her heart was OK but the CT showed that she MAY have the beginnings of Pneumonia. He then asked if we wanted to be admitted to the hospital or go home. I asked Dr. Johns what would be the benefits of having my wife admitted to the hospital. He said if she was admitted, she would be getting antibiotics to keep Pneumonia from taking over and she would be constantly monitored. Also, would be given fluids for hydration, could help her. So we agreed to have her admitted. It took an hour and a half for them to move my wife to the hospital room. At 10:45am my wife was moved to room 107. At that time, Donna took all her vitals. Also, at that time my wife asked her if she could have a glass of water. Donna said that would be no problem and she left the room. At 12:15pm my wife was not hooked up to anything, no IV and no Monitoring equipment. We pressed the nurse call button and asked why my wife has not been given any antibiotics or being monitored. Donna said that she would check with the chart to see what was ordered. At 12:45pm, Donna came back in the room stating that the chart did not state that my wife was in for treatment for pneumonia, just being admitted for influenza and there is no treatment for that. At this time Donna found out that my wife's IV was pulled out. My wife was in the room for 2 hours and the nurse did not even know that her IV was pulled out. I asked Donna, if there was going to be No treatment, then why was she admitted. We asked Donna why was she even admitted? My wife would have the same or better care at home since my wife still has not gotten her water that she asked for over an hour ago. Donna agreed with us and told us that she has had a few patients that came in for the same reasons. Donna left the room and said she would come back to see if we wanted to hook my wife back up on IV. At 2pm we pressed the call button again. Donna came in and I told her that I wanted to speak with the Dr. to try and find out what the plan was for why my wife was admitted. Since I was told by Dr. Johns that she would be getting treated and Donna told us per the chart there was no treatment. Donna left the room to get the Dr. She came back in and told us the Dr. said the infectious disease Dr. said that she had a chronic issue that has been there for a long time and that she needs to follow up with her primary Dr. This was the reason that they did not give my wife any medication. We Never talked directly with the Dr., I do not understand why we were not allowed to speak with the Dr. since he was in the ER on the same floor to find out what the results of the CT and to be better informed. I asked Donna why is my wife admitted if they were not going to treat her? She did not know why. I told Donna that we needed to be discharged since she is getting no treatment. Susan got NO Medicine and No Monitoring. The only thing she got while she was there was a meal and water. At 2:30pm we were discharged. I believe Dr. Johns admitted her just for the hospital to get the hospital more money. read more

This place is an absolute joke. From the "Dr" saying it's allergies because my eyes are red, no bitch, they're red from crying! Having to ask for an x ray, having an employee just walk in talking on her phone DURING the x ray and now sitting 2 hours after the xray, still hurting. People laughing it up in the hallway. I have been to this hospital and it is amazing. The er dr and nurses were amazing! When I got moved over to the hospital side the nurses where so sweet and very caring. I had the same night nurse for all 3 nights. Her name was Michelle. I had another nurse Alexi and she was super kind for the 2 days I had here. I recommend the er and hospital highly, plus the food was so amazing and good. Cooked what you ordered and comes hot! I would give this more then 5 stars if I can. read more

Horrible service. It seems like their main objective is to get people on pain pills, and NOT to treat the issue. My husband was seen for extreme hip pain. We were told that he would be fast tracked to the pain department. That was a complete joke. He was x-rayed, given a high dose of pain meds (not even the right kind to help his pain) and sent of with a script for the wrong meds and an incorrect diagnosis. Still in pain we called his a Banner nurse who informed us he should be seen in the next 4 hours. Took him to a banner hospital, where good doctors are taking care of him and informed his symptoms are not that of the incorrect diagnosis from exceptional. He will be staying overnight at Banner to be treated properly. If you are in need of true health care go elsewhere. No room for wheelchairs to access rooms. The hospital design and staff are a joke! Friendly staff, fairly quick treatment. This is not an urgent care! This is where you are usually seen for things more serious than an urgent care can handle. An ER visit takes a few hours anywhere you go. It's normal. In and out in about 3-3 1/2 hours. Which is fairly fast for an ER when I've spent 12+ hours in others.. had catheter, blood drawn, tests run, & ultrasound in that time. The ultrasound tech was on call and had to come in late at night. She was still very nice, knowledgeable, professional and took her time on the ultrasound. Everyone I saw, from the front desk, to the doctor himself, was very nice, concerned/involved and attentive. Very happy with this visit, I highly recommend and also will continue to come here for myself and family in the future. read more

That Nurse Harlan is horrible. My wife stayed three nights and I stayed with her. He came in and did what ne needed to do and left the room each time. I can tell that he is so full of himself. But the next night we had a differnt nurse and she was the epitome of a real nurse. She did a full check on my wife. Made sure she was okay. Even took care of me believe it or not. She offered us beverages and a snack. Even made coffee for us in the morning. I am upset that I did not get a chance to comment before my wife was discharged. But this nurse is awesome. She really cares and you can tell. I think her name was Stacey or Tracy. She is beautiful with curly hair. Anyway Harlan can learn from nurses like her. He is a punk and should not be a nurse. read more

Our daughter split her chin open in the evening so we had to go to ECH. it did take a long time (almost four hours) but I think that is pretty common for ERs. It's hard to tell how difficult it is for healthcare places right now with being understaffed and with COVID so I want to keep that in mind. Besides the time it took to wait I thought the staff - front desk all the way to the doctor - were all kind and helpful. Our daughter was very scared and they were patient and compassionate with her. She said if she ever gets stitches again she wants to go back there. read more

I have been a paramedic for almost 30 years in the state of AZ and have 3 children and an elderly mother. So I have worked in many ERs, dropped off patients in almost all of the ERs and been a patient in or accompanied patients in many ERs. I have NEVER come across one as bad as this one. I took my daughter there to rule out sepsis after a simple surgery yesterday. They triaged her, told her she was high priority, put her in a room, told her to put on a gown, NOTHING ELSE. No story, no vitals, NOTHING. There she sat for 2 HOURS AND 20 MINUTES. I asked them twice what was going on and was told it would be a min while several nurses, a paramedic (which I know btw) and other staff sat around a desk the entire time. Nobody moved. I felt like I was in a matrix glitch. I finally told my daughter we're leaving. The medic I know came up finally and asked if there was something wrong. Uh yeah... Duh. We're leaving. It was almost like she was relieved and said ok I'll tell your nurse. So then he comes over and tells me it's not unusual to wait 90 minutes to see a provider. There's only one provider and we go by who's sicker. Well sir, how do you know? Know one has even assessed her since she came back here! That place should be shut down. Quickly before someone dies. It took us 5 min to be seen at dignity urgent care. They sent her to chandler regional and she saw 2 RNs, a PA, an MD, had a line in and pain meds and a CT ordered all within 40 min of walking through the door and they were BUSY!!! Do better. Once again my family and I received awful treatment at this place. My son was taken here via ambulance after being injured at the community center. The staff here severally lacks empathy and sympathy for patients. They treated my son like he could not express pain (by the way he tore his ACL; which is one of the most painful injuries). They called security because he was too expressive (who was very empathetic and helpful) they treated to call the police when we asked about the level of care offered here. After such awful treatment we left and went to the Phoenix ER & Medical Hospital...which offers exceptional care and medical services. This place should take the word exceptional out of their name because it is a complete oxymoron. read more

My son was there a few week back for an adverse reaction or allergic reaction to one of his psychiatric medications. His doctor recently increased his dose so he had what his doctor said was EPS. Well Exceptional did not see it that way. They said that he was faking because he could walk without showing any symptoms. But when he was on the bed my son said that this is when his back and neck felt like it was curling up on him. He said that he could not understand why they treated him like that. He could hear them saying that he was faking it because he could walk to the bathroom fine but as soon as he got back in bed he would start yelling out in pain and arching his back. My son had this before when he was younger. So I know he was not faking. He said that they made him feel terrible and could not believe that doctors and nurses would talk that way about patients who they are supposed to care for. He also said that he heard some skunkish haired-fat nurse with glasses threaten to have someone stand guard in front of his room to scare him sot that he could stop yelling. I am appalled at that type of ignorant behavior. These people are supposed to be professionals. I cant send my son back to that hospital ever again. They should be ashamed of themselves. Low class. I would rather have no hospital in Maricopa then to send my son there again to those uncouth individuals. Shame on you Exceptional. read more
