We were moving from a two-bedroom apartment in Boston to a home in NY, so it was going to be quite the monumental task. Seeing all the rave reviews for Exela, I reached out and scheduled the move with them -- and I'm so happy I did! They were amazing. On the day of the move, a rain/snowstorm hit, but the crew still arrived on time and accomplished the job easily. This included moving all items out in 1 hour flat, a 6+ hour drive in whiteout conditions, and a full unpack in another hour flat. We had 3 movers, and they were all polite, professional, and took great care of all our items. Nothing arrived damaged or broken, and all items were accounted for. It was worth every penny! We needed to hire movers for our daughters who were moving from one apartment in South Boston to another in South Boston. We had hired movers for a previous move and it was an absolute nightmare. I searched Yelp for movers and Exela had the best reviews. From the initial contact to the move today, everything was fantastic. Incredibly responsive. Very professional. They showed up on time and Slavoljub and his crew were personable and professional. And FAST!! The 3 of them worked well together and they took great care of my daughters' items, ensuring that everything was protected and covered. I got a bunch of quotes from different companies. They all seemed to use the same automated estimate generator (or something very similar), which kind of sucked. I ended up having to call Alexe at Exela to get a better estimate and it was a bit rocky connecting with him and getting a final estimate. We worked through it though, and Exela came in middle-of-the-pack on price. Based on their good reviews and moderate price, I chose to go with Exela. Another company had slightly better reviews but higher price, and another had similar reviews but a seemingly unrealistically low price (it was probably completely off, and it made me trust them less). In the end, the estimate was about 15% under the actual final cost, which honestly is about what I expect (I don't think any of these companies are incentivized to over-estimate, so they're more likely to under-estimate). Anyway, now to the important part. I had a day of packing and a day of moving. The crew was great. It was nice getting to know them over the course of the two days. They did really good work, were polite, and moved every last thing without any damage. My favorite thing about them is that they weren't just robots programmed to move things from point A to point B. They were problem solvers. When issues came up, they just came up with a solution to the best of their ability. There were several examples of this, but my favorite was when they found a way to get a sofa up to my 2nd floor via a window. They tried all sorts of things before that, weighing pros/cons, assessing risk. Really happy with that. Anyway, bottom line, if I had to move again (which I hope I don't), I'd hire Exela in a heartbeat. read more

We used Excela for a move from Brighton to Sherborn, and we were really happy with the service. It was simple to book with them, and our team of movers (3 of them) were very friendly and efficient. It took ~7 hours to move our two bed apartment (who knew you could accumulate so much in two years?!). Keep in mind that the per hour cost includes travel time (in our case, they drove to and from the dispatch in Charlestown). We were only surprised by one charge - use of tape. While we taped all of our boxes ourselves, they needed to use tape to wrap the furniture pads, etc, to the furniture. The tape charge for our job was $84, so I would just pad a little extra in the budget. Overall, though, it was a great deal. I'd definitely use them again. They were careful, efficient, and friendly. read more

Exela helped with a 2-bedroom, 1-day only in-town move out/move in, on 8/1. The weather was balmy, the stairs were unavoidable, and the hallways were unforgiving. The team that moved me in, however, was unstoppable. They were efficient and treated all of my stuff, and both units, with great care, including wrapping all of my furniture. They wore masks. They helped take things apart and put them back together. They fought to get my couch into the new house when I was ready to abandon all hope. Everything arrived in my new home in one piece (unless we took it apart). The office communication was speedy and thorough. Exela made our local move easy and as stress-free as possible. First of all, the communication during the planning phase was great: Exela responded to my e-mail with a quote within a couple of hours, we agreed on a date, and I made a deposit over the phone. Exela also reached out ahead of the date to get a rough inventory and make sure we were good to go. My previous apartment was a 2BR on the third floor of a walk-up. The Exela team arrived promptly at the agreed upon time and quickly got to work. My partner and I packed our boxes ahead of time, and those made it down and into the truck quickly. The Exela team carefully wrapped our furniture in blankets and taped down any loose items to minimize the risk of any damage going down the stairs or in-transit. One snafu that the team smartly mitigated was a loose step on the landing stairway at street level; it was something my landlord has to take care of permanently, but the team offered to screw it down as a temporary fix to be able to complete the job safely. A less resourceful company might have declared the stairway unsafe and punted on the move, so I was impressed by the team's ability to be pragmatic in the moment! Once the truck was packed, my partner and I drove down to the new location separately from the truck. The truck arrived just a few minutes after we did, and unpacking started promptly. The team was once again very careful and considerate of our directions for where all of the furniture and boxes should go. When it came time to settle up, the team leader took the time to explain the invoice line by line. I was impressed by how quickly the team was able to get us packed, moved, and unpacked. One tip for others is to budget some time and packing material costs even if you pack all of your own boxes: some time is spent protecting furniture with blankets and tape, and the tape can add up to a non-negligible part of the cost for a short-duration move. Separately, I appreciated the ability to add a tip directly on my credit card instead of needing cash (particularly during covid). We had a great experience with Exela, and I would be happy to repeat business with them and recommend them to others. read more

A negative, costly experience: overpriced, slow, and unprofessional. The pro: They communicate very promptly and professionally, and reaching them is easy. The breakdown of the negatives: - Charged us $299 an hour for a June move for a 3 person crew. On top of that, $600 round trip just to get to us! - Miscommunication with about the address even though I both wrote via email and called two days before. They got a bit lost, and it cost me time. - Slow: Went beyond the estimate and took 7 hours for a small two-bedroom apartment and still couldn't finish everything. We had to leave items behind because we couldn't afford having to pay even more. One of the crew members was painstakingly slow to wrap items in blankets while talking on his cell phone casually. I had to have a conversation with the foreman about the time. We were told that to pack one dining table, it would cost us an extra hour. Can you imagine paying $299 an hr just to pack a dining table? - Charged $65 just for tape! - Unprofessional: Emptied my nightstand drawer by dumping everything on the ground without ever consulting me. Got upset when I politely communicated the move was going very slowly, and we were going to over the estimate. I was reimbursed only a half hour for the problems. read more

Writing a very belated review for Daniel + Saki. These guys were on-time (or early), great about communication, and friendly while respecting our privacy. They were clear and helpful with letting us know what we could and couldn't move (FYI, illegal to transport BIC lighters), helping us wrap up furniture, and weren't afraid to work hard. We moved something ourselves and they said, "Let us do that for you!" They took great care of our stuff. Would definitely hire them again. My only criticism with Exela is that the initial email process was confusing. We did a cross-country move and got a separate confirmation email for each day of the anticipated drive, which made it a little unclear when the movers would actually be showing up. However, in the end they were able to clarify the schedule and accommodate us after I called a few times. They were good about answering the phone. read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Exela. 3 days before a major move from Boston to Western Massachusetts (2 hours away), the first moving company we had booked had to cancel on us due to a covid outbreak on their staff. I called through every moving company I could find, but since it was New Year's Eve, most companies had their phones going to voicemail. Finally I called Exela, and Alexe picked up immediately. I couldn't believe that I could call at 7:50PM on a Sunday evening, actually speak to the owner, get a fair and VERY accurate quote and a tentative date that Friday. Confirmed the next day and their very efficient system kicked right in. I received all the paperwork, receipts and notices straight away. Unfortunately, I am updating my last glowing review with my most recent experience with Exela.... This time, I was moving from a small one bedroom apartment to a 2 bedroom.. I barely have any stuff-mainly just furniture and a few boxes.. They were very SLOW this time. The total move took 5 hours, and in previous times, only took 2-3 hours maximum!! They also tacked on a lot of extra fees that were never there before: "packaging materials" such as wrap, tape, blankets, $35???? And, they charged me from the time they left their warehouse until they arrived at my apartment. I was told $139/hour, flat rate with no hidden fees, but there WERE hidden fees.. My total bill came out to be over $700, which I thought was a lot given the amount of items I had. In the past, I used to pay around $350-400. They've increased their prices and added fees that were never there before. On the plus side, the movers were friendly and professional and showed up on time. I don't think I'd use them again though, due to the hidden fees, overall high cost, and slow moving. read more

We used Exela Movers twice over the years for moves that spanned about an hour traveling distance from point A to point B. Roughly one apartment for first move and half of one for second. Recently during the pandemic, I was pleased with their safety protocol that called for moving with masks and gloves - now I know this is difficult and I so appreciated their commitment! I also opened the windows to circulate air for their protection as well as ours. Both times I have had great communication with Alexe the owner, and the cost quotes were reasonable and accurate. The movers were extremely fast and careful, wrapped things they thought needed to be more secure. No hidden charges or changes, except for upgrading to a bigger vehicle when they thought we might need it (no charge - amazing). They were not the cheapest quote I got, but remember you get what you pay for! I paid for professionalism and peace of mind, and I felt immense relief. Our move was 3 miles within the city but not as stress free as we would have liked it to be. After reading all the reviews for Exela we preferred it to other movers although the quote was significantly higher. For the price we paid, we didn't get what we thought we would. All in all not worth the premium that they charge (at least 30-40% higher than all other quotes we received). Pros - arrived on time - 2 out of 3 movers were fine in "doing the job". - moved decently enough to get things done - took care of most of our furniture Cons - 1 person was excessively chatty and asking too many things trying to be relatable when we just didn't need that. He basically didn't do even half as much as he was supposed to - 1 person was plain downright rude. He broke vases, cracked our bed and at any point when we tried to understand why he wouldn't pack something he said "either you do what I say or this doesn't go." And walked away - 2 of them used our bathrooms without even asking. - didn't plan enough and finally left some of our stuff at our old place because "their truck was full" which then we had to move on our own. They didn't disassemble any furniture and of course that filled up the truck - took 5 hours longer than what they had budgeted and told us - lastly when we talked to the owner about all this he was excessively defensive and said "it was supposed to be a 7 hour job but took longer so.. " well you planned and told us your estimate, not like we told you. And we paid for every hour that your employees were here so I don't understand what the defense is about. read more
