I LOVE THESE MOVERS!!! I have used The Other Guys Moving Company twice. Once from Boston to Northern New Jersey (Spring 2015) and then again from Northern NJ to Western Massachusetts (late Spring 2018). In both moves The Other Guys has been nothing but efficient, cost-effective, kind, helpful, caring, and flexible. Jane in the office rocks! Their email response time is second to none. Plus, she fields and fielded so many last moment changes in the move from Boston to NJ, she deserves a medal. I recently needed additional documentation to have my employer cove some costs and all materials were sent over immediately, even though my move was a while ago. In the most recent Northern NJ to Western MA, happened very fast and had a tight timeline. Julius and his team were able to help. I did not think they would even be interested in a move that required them to start in NJ, but thankfully, they were. Their quote was spot on and thorough, included toll estimates, mileage, materials, time, and more. Many other companies left out tolls and materials fees. Plus, it was much cheaper than some options in NJ (those NJ movers were BANANAS). They kept me updated the way down to NJ and throughout the drive north. When we got to the final destination in Western Mass, Julius made sure we saw the scratches on the hardwood, right under where we were placing our bed, left by previous tenants to ensure our landlord did not charge us. The scene this morning was my worst moving fear realized. We had the truck in front of our new apartment, we had even begun unloading everything onto the sidewalk in preparation for our 7-9 am moving slot with Anton's Movers. At 7:20, my husband was grumbling about my ability to book timely movers. (I called Anton. No answer. Left message.) At 7:30, my husband was carrying boxes in and I was calling again. (No answer. Left message.) At 7:50, my husband was PISSED and I was in a panic. (I called again. No answer. One more message.) With my tail between my legs, I called three other local companies and left them shot-in-the-dark SOS messages. We moved half of our things up three floors and then - wahoo! - at 8:20, we got a call from The Other Guys (a propos, no?) who said they'd have a guy there in 30 minutes! At 8:45, Julius was there making quick work of the rest of our move. He was friendly, efficient, and super strong. Did a long move to South Dakota from Massachusetts. They are very responsive and kind but a bit pricey for longer moves. Gave us a big truck for a relatively small move, which may have driven up the price. We went with them for their good reputation and flexibility. Rodridgo is a nice and helpful mover. if there were more stars than five, I would add more-- Julius, Jane and all the team at the Other Guys were SUPERSTARS!!!! Where to begin? The beginning. Last year, I had to move my boss, via satellite, me being in LA, him being in Boston. A dedicated Yelper, I turned to this terrific site and took the high reviews to heart, making the initial call as I landed in Boston. Jane called me back immediately and had Julius come out that very day. Julius (who would look at home on the set of GAME OF THRONES as an exotic royal that tames the dragons) showed up and didn't bat an eye at what I thought was a somewhat big job with no time to delay. He assessed the situation and reassured me that i wasn't going to leave my boss high & dry. Best of all, he was very accurate in his pricing, I thought it was a mistake, at first, that he'd bid too low and that we'd get an ugly surprise down the road. Nope. In no way was that the case. They were honest, fast, and just DID IT ALL. My boss' desk is this giant behemoth, a wooden whale of a piece of furniture, it took five to six guys to move it down the steps. Not a whine or a crossed-eye. They were laughing and joking about it. They even did a friend of Boss' a favor and moved some of his stuff that had been stored at the house for him at no extra charge. Who does that!? THE OTHER GUYS MOVING CO, that's who! You know, they pack things for you, I have been a life-long self-mover. I didn't even know luxuries like this existed. They pack and label and do it all for you, if you can't, won't or don't want to. Kevin is the wrapping pro, with a terrific accent to boot. They used so much tape, SO MUCH TAPE! Not one thing was broken in the move, and in fact, on the move in to the NY house, Julius left us a couple of his blankets (don't expect this, and Jane, please don't yell at him!) He didn't want the Boss' couch touching the ground of the sorta dirty NY storage space. Come on! What a prince. They moved things into a winter wonderland, walking some of the heavier pieces BY HAND over frozen grounds with icy paths. Things I wouldn't have asked my dearest friends or worst enemies to do, they did, with the best attitude. They didn't expect anything, but I felt so grateful, I got them pizza, we tipped them out and was still amazed that they moved that beast of a desk into the farthest part of the property, without any discernible bitching. I took a photo with them at the end of the move, when we had put the rest of the stuff into a storage space, they made me an honorary "Other Guy" mover. Moving (even when it's not your stuff) is a stressful thing, and they did everything to make me calm and reassured. Extra grateful for all the good times during our move. I want to start out this review by saying it is not a review of the movers or the quality of the move itself. The experience that we had with our movers was seamless, and incredibly professional. They really took their time to make sure our belongings were well-packed and secure, and made a stressful move very easy for us. However-- we received an email from The Other Guys back office citing that they were running a promotion where we would receive 10% off of our total move. They claimed that the promotion would be applied to our card after the move. Great. When weeks went by and the promotion was not refunded, we reached out to Jane in the back office again. When we received no response, we reached out one more time, only to have our message ignored once again. Again, we couldn't have asked for a better experience with the move itself. It's 11:30, I'm sitting among my packed boxes and waiting for the truck and movers who were supposed to be here between 10:30 and 11. It's not as though they're coming from far away - I live in Boston, after all. What's more frustrating is that their phone number forwards to an automated message directing you to the website, and no one has contacted me about the truck being late, where they are or when I can expect them to arrive. Needless to say, I'm pretty annoyed. Please for the love of god pick up the phone, or shoot me a text or just show up when you say you're going to show up. Two words: utterly fantastic. We ended up doing a full service move, which means they packed up all of our belongings on one day and then loaded, moved and unloaded our belongings a couple of days later. The entire process was smooth and phenomenally efficient. We had a team of three guys headed up by David. These guys are strong, smart, and don't stop working. They don't take time outs, and they don't charge you when they take a lunch break. They're friendly and pet positive. There's a reason why they have 5 star reviews. Here's our reasons: Packing Us Up We had about 120 boxes, including 40 boxes of books and at least a dozen works of art, some of it quite large. We had 11 sets of long, heavy curtains and curtain rods that needed to come down. We had a washing machine. A full kitchen of breakables. These guys packed up every single item in our house, made custom boxes for our larger works of art, and wrapped everything in a total of 50 pounds of wrapping paper--and did it all in 6.25 hours. Yes: 6 hours, 15 minutes. This included their travel time (it's an industry standard to charge for travel). I never looked into hiring professional packers before because I thought it would cost an outrageous amount of money. Trust me: give The Other Guys a call and ask them to estimate it for you. The owner of The Other Guys was spot on with his estimate. Was it super cheap? No. But it was totally reasonable--and remember, we had about 120 boxes. They'll come the day before a move to pack you up, which means you're not living in boxes and camping in your own home for weeks. I'll never pack myself again. Oh, and when they packed up our curtains, they even folded them carefully. Can you say "details"? Moving Us David, the head of the team that packed and moved us, is like a space engineer. I kept checking out the truck as they loaded it, and it's clear that he's an expert on things like center of gravity, potential weight shifts, and box organization. Loading the truck is a science, and it took twice as long as unloading it. I couldn't believe the pace they were putting things in our new home--and setting up our beds, our dining room table, and other such "constructables." David even expertly removed a couple of doors to get a few larger items in, and then replaced them. When they were setting up our odd-sized bedroom, he even helped us figure out where to put things. A Few Tips These guys are awesome. Tip them well--they totally deserve it. We also bought them lunch, and they said that wasn't really a normal practice. I'd like to urge anyone reading this far down in the review to buy these guys lunch. They were really appreciative, all three of them. Final Comment: Hire them. The Other Guys moved me within floors of the same building. The team was two guys, one experienced, who was decent and the other new, who wasn't as good. The main issues were: - When I reserved, I had the impression that travel time for them to get to my place was not billed. I think the agent said travel time was "included" in the hourly rate, which in retrospect I suppose was ambiguous. - A piece of custom walnut furniture ended up with white paint scratches on it. I'm pretty sure it was them because I had them move the item as a stack of boards and the paint scratches crossed the boards in a continuous way, suggesting that they occurred when the boards where stacked. I looked into getting the scratches removed, and repair shops said just use goof-off, which did remove the paint, but also left behind a solvent discoloration on the wood :(. - I asked them to lower a mattress over a balcony, and they didn't me it was an extra $40 charge (on top of their hourly rate) till I got the bill at the end. On the plus side, I was pleasantly surprised that Other Guys promptly sent me $5 for the goof-off (I emailed a pic of the white paint issue). Not sure if their claims process is that straightforward when the dollar amount is higher, but it's better than other companies that make you jump through a lot of hoops. read more

Unprofessional and unreliable. They told us they could move us on a certain date. We said ok. A couple of days pass without hearing from them. We have to repeatedly call and email. We finally get a hold of them and they say, "oh yes, no problem - you're all set for that date, we'll send you a contract soon." Then, later that day after everywhere else is closed, they email to say "we just updated our calendar and don't have that date or anything within a few days of it." We had stopped looking for alternatives since they said they could do it and they left us high and dry. If you want a place that will tell you honestly if they are full and a place that will answer their phone and return calls and emails promptly, look elsewhere. read more

Beyond in customer service!!! I would highly recommend and I will be using them again!! I moved back in October and these 3 brawny professional men were nothing but top of the line!! I am a store manager and am hyper aware of customer service. They were quiet, on task and treated my antiques with enormous care. Not one thing broken at the new address. Unfortunately, my experience was a very bad one. I have heard great comments about this moving company so I decided to contact them. Julius was very nice, he follow up with me fast and efficiently. He gave me a quote of around 475-525. Which I thought it was pretty decent. Well, the day arrived... I was fully prepared, as I have been planning this day carefully; I wanted that everything go smoothly. Unfortunately, I left my purse for 1 minute, as I had to quickly look for something in the bathroom, my wallet disappeared. I was there alone with the 3 moving guys and with all my things in their trunk; I wanted to pay them in cash so 700 dollars in cash just disappeared. Of course, the last thing I wanted at that moment was confrontation as I was alone so I told Victor (the moving guy in command) the situation, he reacted quite good and I offer him that I could pay the moving services and tips by check. When the payment came it was almost 900 dollars + tips, as you can imagine this was very off from the initial quote. And the fact that my wallet disappeared!! It was a very disappointing experience; I understand it was my fault for leaving my things for 1 minute but in those circumstances is really difficult to keep an eye on everything at the same time read more

They did a fantastic job with my interstate move!! I also actually paid what I was quoted. I feel like this is a rarity in moving situations. Definitely a pleasant surprise vs my previous interstate move (not so pleasant surprise!) Walter and Mario did a fantastic job packing up my things. They were super sweet and very personable. The promptly came to our house, wrapped everything very careful, brought it to our new home and put the furniture together all while making it look SO easy. They even let us do a walk-through and if we wanted our furniture positioned in a different way, they moved it for us. We had a winter move from Boston to Los Angeles, and working with Jane and the team at Other Guys made all the difference. The coordinating team was communicative, flexible, well-priced and extremely professional, going above and beyond (including delivering packing material on the weekend). On both sides, the movers were great - efficient, careful, and patient when we wanted to move large pieces around to find the right spot. They stuck to the estimate, which was more than competitive with other options. And they were able to be flexible with the delivery date - even shifting departure times around to accommodate bad weather predicted for the cross-country drive. These guys are great. Super easy to communicate with via email and they were at our apartment promptly and were kind enough to wait for us to show up. We only had a few large, bulky items left to move, and they did it quickly and efficiently, at a really reasonable price. We've used these guys twice (once to haul a couch up two flights over a deck and another time to move our stuff from the South End to Charlestown) and have been thrilled with their service both times. It seems like everyone that Julius employs has an antlike ability to carry five times their own body weight. Plus, they're all really cool guys, which is surprising from guys who lift up other people's heavy crap all day. The Other Guys aren't the flashiest operation, but their performance speaks for itself. We lived on the fifth floor of a brownstone in the South End. Julius and two compadres showed up at 7:00 AM sharp and all of our stuff was in our new spot in Charlestown by 10:30. If you have nice furniture ,You have nothing to worry about . The other guys will wrap everything very well and handle all of your stuff like it's their own. That said, this is also where they spend a lot of time - wrapping and unwrapping the blankets they tape to your stuff. Like I said, if you have a big move and a lot of nice stuff, no need to worry about t getting scratched or broken. The Other Guys Moving Company is the best moving company ever. The movers were friendly, professional, and did a wonderful job. My husband and I live on the 2nd floor of a house and there are tight spaces, making it hard to maneuver, but they got most of it up our back staircase. When they couldn't get our sofa up the stairs, they hoisted it up onto our porch - did I mention we live on the 2nd floor? - took the doors off the hinges, and got it into our apartment. They set everything up for us, moved everything where they needed to go, then put the doors back on their hinges and it all took under 2 hours! We were so impressed, we gave each mover a $40 tip. I moved in August right before the peak week at the end of the month. The movers were on time, if not a bit early, and they were quick and professional. They couldn't have been nicer, especially in the face of a tiny staircase in Beacon Hill! The whole move took 4-5 hours. It was a little more than I expected, and there was a whole hoopla with payment going through twice. My stress-inducing move of 2011 started a little more than 2 weeks ago, when I returned from a week long trip to find the truck that was SUPPOSED to be mine on August 31 and September 1 was no longer. What to do, what to do...all the moving trucks were gone, except for the $600/day penske truck, or the budget truck that wouldn't give me a true confirmation that it would actually be there for me when I went to pick it up. I scrambled around trying to find a moving company who still had availability on September 1st (hah! i though). My phone call to "The Other Guys" went as such... Me: "Hi...this may be a really stupid question, but is there any chance you guys still have availability on september 1st?" Julius: "Well how dare you ask such a thing!" Me: {laughter} Julius: "I'm kidding, i think we just might, hold on one second..." And thus progressed a super friendly phone call in which he said they'd be happy to move me on the 1st. They were super flexible with my "maybe i can make it an earlier date" thoughts for about a week, but eventually we settled on the 1st. I went online and filled out a quote form so they had all the info. Julius wrote me in response to it, wanting to clarify whether we would do the 31st or the 1st, but that either way they could fit me in. After that point communication was a little spotty - It's the busiest time of the year so I can't blame them, but I ended up feeling like an annoyance in order to get a few basic answers about things. I think I would have given them 5 stars if I had gotten some kind of official contract/form about the move, but with just an informal email and no deposit from my end, I felt nervous about whether they would actually show up. I continued to feel nervous until the morning of, when at about 9:30am I got a phone call letting me know they'd be there in about an hour. SIGH OF RELIEF! Two and a half hours later, no movers...whatever, it's September 1st, I forgive them. They eventually showed up at 12:30, and I think only because the other job they went to had no one (the person being moved) there, so they skipped it and came to me. Had that not happened, I would have still been waiting. Victor and the two guys helping him were sweeties, and the move was thoroughly enjoyable. They worked their butts off, took care with everything (but not too much time), let me help when I wanted to, and I trusted them fully not to dawdle in their drive from Somerville to JP. So, really, the only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because I had to be nervous up until the day of my move not really being sure if i had confirmed movers, and that I was told that morning they'd be there by 11, and had that other person not flaked, they probably wouldn't have been there until 3 or 4pm, when I had to be out of my house at 2pm. These guys were AWESOME. We were moving at the end of December, and naive me and my man figured that December's a slow month for moving, so let's just wait to book the movers. Right? Um, no...this is a city, a fairly large one, and people move all twelve months of the year. So of course the place we used before and adored was busy on the day we had to move. Needless to say, I was nervous. I've heard of moving company horror stories before, no shows, breaking stuff, etc. The man was surfing on Yelp (yay!) and found the Other Guys. I was apprehensive (I mean, no hives, but yeah). Once the guys showed up, I knew we made a good decision. Julius is extremely professional, friendly, helpful (and let's face it, incredibly easy on the eyes). His team was hard-working, communicative, and very careful with all of our stuff. I honestly felt like they treated our move like the only one they had that day, and they treated it like it was their own stuff they were moving. It never felt rushed, it never felt stressful. It was EXACTLY what you fork over big bucks for when you hire movers. They even came back the next day for a super duper four story hoist of our large-and-in-charge couch. These guys are the best, I'll be recommending them to everyone I know and next time we move, they've got our business. Now go, call them before they book up for September 1! Let's start with the initial appointment. Everything was set up for me in about 5 minutes. Jane sent me all of the information and the breakdown of the cost, which I found to be very reasonable. I hired TOGM to move my belongings to storage and then to move it out to Bloomington, IN where I was hires to work at IU. Jane told me that if I didn't need the whole month of storage, they would pro rate my use and refund me they money (awesome!) Kevin and Jonny came to move me out of my apartment, which was located off of Comm Ave in Kenmore Sq (BU Property). They were efficient and very friendly. They wrapped up the big items - couch, desk, entertainment unit, bed, etc and brought it down 2 different elevators and around the block. Needless to say, they did an amazing job with the move out part. When I found a place in Bloomington, Jane and Julius were very quick to set up a time to meet me to move in my belongings. Julius and another man came, and quickly unloaded everything in my apartment, set up my bed and couch. After they departed, Julius sent me a text that he mistakenly over charged me, and that I would get some money back. I didn't even realize that he made a mistake, and so I really appreciated his honesty and awesomeness. I would recommend TOGM to anyone living in Boston and I would certainly use them again. read more

Needed to find a moving company on short notice. Julius is AWESOME! Scheduled me, took care of the paperwork and even added insurance to his policy that my new building required he have. Showed up on-time and the move went so fast that he left to take care of some urgent business with another customer while Kevin and Caleb helped finish up (at a reduced rate!). I have always moved myself and never wrap anything. They wrapped EVERYTHING in a moving blanket and taped it up. Literally nothing was scratched and they even got a sleeper sofa down a narrow staircase from the 3rd floor. Even though it took longer to do all the taping / unwrapping, it was well worth it. Also, had a unique situation where we picked up 2 people's stuff, dropped off 1 person's, picked up another's, then unloaded everything else at a 3rd location. Julius was more than accommodating. Julius AKA Hercules is fantastic. Some unfortunate events led me to move twice in the past 2 months. After reading some yelp reviews and trying to find last minute movers, I called these guys. Turns out only Julius was able to make it at the specified time (they were out of town for another job) and was fantastic to work with. Julius is the type of friend you wished you had when you needed to move. He can haul large items singlehandedly, he is gentle with your things, and he is an all around nice guy. Mario and Walter showed up on schedule, and were professional, polite, funny and efficient. They handled all of our belongings with extreme care, including my heavy, yet fragile antique 1920's lamp, which arrived at our new place in one piece and without a scratch. These guys were wonderful, and had us packed up in Cambridge and unpacked in our new place in Melrose in only a few hours. I've used The Other Guys for my last three moves and wouldn't consider using any other team. Each time, their movers have been communicative and efficient. When I had questions pre-move, my e-mails were responded to within 24 hours. When I had a concern the day-of, the main office called me back within minutes. I packed some pretty heavy boxes, but the guys moved me and all my junk up 3 floors in under 4 hours. They were proactive by asking about the layout of my new home and where I wanted things -- no dumping items for me to re-arrange after they'd left. I had a tough interstate moved scheduled for Feb 28th. As everyone in Boston knows, there was about 6 feet of snow on the ground. After calling a few of the big name movers, I was concerned with the multiple moves (small truck to large truck to small truck) that they mentioned. Luckily, I managed to stumble across The Other Guys. They assured me that my possessions would be in 1 truck the entire move, and would reach me at my destination on time. While it did cost a little more than the big name movers, the attention to detail in the packing and moving of my stuff was fantastic. Furniture was carefully wrapped and completely covered with furniture pads, keeping out the salt and protecting them in the move. My large glass table was wrapped and neatly secured in the truck. After seeing them pack the truck in Boston, I knew I wouldn't have to worry about anything getting damaged in transit. They arrived the morning that they promised, and helped place all the furniture in the correct locations. Furthermore, they did not rush out of the door when they were finished, and ensured that I was happy with everything before they left. Finally, the price they quoted was exactly the price I payed. Top notch. I needed a rush move and was able to schedule something within 48 hours of my phone call, AND it was an after hours move to boot. They were late, but at least attempted to miss the traffic from Charlestown to Somerville. They took great care of my stuff, and were successful in removing my awkward-as-ass antique sofa from one twisty-staircased Somerville apartment to ANOTHER twisty-staircased Somerville apartment. They had to hoist the damn thing into my new home due to the layout, and were ultimately successful and charged me about $120 more for this unexpected need, which was less than I expected. They took great care of all of my stuff, wrapping everything and being extremely diligent about avoiding bumping furniture against things. Super impressed. If I need another mover, I'd definitely use them. End of story. read more

I wish I would have known about these guys during the 7 years I lived in Boston! I could have saved many injuries to my back if I'd just hired them instead! The task was to load up a rental moving truck with the contents of my 1BR apartment, and they did a great job. Before the move, Jules answered all my questions and always responded quickly to my emails. The day of the move they were on time and brought everything they needed to load the truck (and take apart some of the bigger items) so all my belongings made it across the country safely! This was the first time I ever hired movers, and I had such a positive experience! My roommate and I just finished our first move with The Other Guys, and I want to echo all of the 5 star reviews. They were one of the only companies that would move us on a Sunday, and with July 1 being such a big moving day- this was huge for us! They arrived promptly at 7:30 a.m. and they moved our entire apartment from a 2nd floor walk-up to a 3rd floor walk-up in just 3 hours. They were so fun to be around all day, and I trusted them with all of my things. They were honest with their quote, and worked efficiently to finish in a timely manner. Ultimately, these guys were great, I would recommend them to anyone! If I move again in the Boston-area, these gentlemen will be the first that I call! I used TOGM Company a couple of years back when I relocated from Salem to CT. I can't tell you how happy we were with the service. I have used moving companies for years and no one has compared with the high level of service we received. No BS, no middlemen, fab crew of friendly guys, no ruined furniture, no surprise costs, nicest people on the planet to deal with before and after. Not the worst movers I have ever used, but quite up there. We used them twice. First time they were good (missing packing equipment and stuff like that, but were really nice), so we used them again. The 2nd time was a nightmare! The guys got drunk the night before and didn't wake up in the am, were late in 5 hours, they didn't have enough supplies to pack, we couldn't complete the move in one day, had to find hotels in the last minute (and it's not easy if you're with a dog), cost us a fortune, and this is just in a nutshell! read more

Movers Beware! I had a horrible experience with The Other Guys Moving Company and I want to document it here so others do not experience the horrible service I experienced. I must begin by clarifying that although there were some good employees on the team who did a good job, the customer experience is based on the overall experience. So, if one guy tries but the team lead is reckless, unprofessional, rude, and completely casts bad karma on the experience, then the entire team and experience takes a hit. This was the case with my experience. The team was only as strong as the weakest link. The following is a detailed summary of what went horribly wrong: 1. Unprofessional and Rude. They were very unprofessional and didn't work well as a team - this meant the service was inconsistent. Some guys were careful with our belongings. Others were not. This was very stressful and very unfortunate. At the end of the move, I just wanted them out of my house and ended up having them put furniture and boxes in garage or first floor for me to move later. 2. Extremely careless. They did not put down protective covers at destination to protect furniture, walls, stairs, floors, etc. They also communicated poorly with each other and some team members were not motivated to do a good job. Instead, they gave heavy boxes to other hard working guys on the team. 3. Didn't work at steady pace. At origin, they worked a bit slow and then at destination, they rushed and just wanted to be done. They complained about going to third floor and put things destined for second or third floor on first or second floor. 4. NOT Customer service oriented. They basically didn't care about our moving needs. They backed up the truck into our lawn even though we have a big driveway, causing damage to our lawn. They didn't protect floors, stairs, walls, etc. causing damage to walls, light fixtures, etc. They didn't unwrap household goods that furniture in storage was wrapped in. They didn't put many of our items where we wanted them. They joked around inappropriately. And, when I reviewed the final bill and had to call Julius to question it, the team lead added 15 more minutes to everyone's time and billed me for it. Bottom line is Do NOT use these guys. The whole experience was stressful. We have moved 4 times in the last 2 years and The Other Guys Moving Company has been the worst experience by far. I know this didn't need to be a bad experience because the day before these guys moved my household goods, I used Esquire Moving to move my household goods from my apartment into my home and it was best experience ever.
