Quoted us around 8k for pack and move and charged us around 12k even though we packed half the house after the first quote. They bagged each knife in about 13 stuffing papers- it was a danger/hazard to even find the knife from all the wrapping. Even quadruple wrapped a tiny rubber screw that belonged on a bike. Strange to say the least We moved 30 minutes away Spent more time unwrapping this crap and now have a crap load of this crap to throw away. The moment I was out of eye sight they treated me personal goods like garbage on a rat heap. Broken TV's, ripped couch fabric from "un wrapping" lawnmower upside down on my boxes in garage! (Fuel on everything) Broken bed frames. Boxes is rooms not were labeled. And worst of all they added packing materials and they boxed up garbage bags of trash in to boxes to move! When speaking to manager I was insulted and belittled and then came the "I'm only going to talk to your husband" .... Excuse me! Do not trust this team with out eyes on them 24/7!!! I used this service in a cross country move as it was the one that the building I live in has a relationship with. Overall, I was disappointed with the service every step of the way. SERVICE: 3/10 I encountered issues at almost every step of the service. Initially with the booking, it was quite easy and straightforward. I got in touch with the agent and followed instructions to take pictures of all areas for moving and got the estimate. This was essentially exactly accurate down to $5-10 at the end of the move. Good. On the day of the move, I had no communication as to what time pickup would be. It was around 4-5 PM on that day where I got worried and called multiple, multiple numbers before I finally got a hold of someone. They sent a team out within 1-2 hours to pick up my stuff. They did so professionally and fast. However, overall, I felt that they entirely forgot that the pickup was supposed to occur that day. Mediocre. On the day of the delivery, I got a call in the morning saying they could not deliver it on that day because they had insufficient paperwork. Mind you, I had already enlisted some friends and family for the day to help with my move and I could not reschedule. Let alone the fact that I needed my stuff! After a half dozen back and forth calls, I finally got my stuff delivered. Though it was about 3 hours late. Bad. Lastly, after the delivery, I found a package to be missing. Very bad. I went through the adjuster and got a reasonable reimbursement for my loss package. Okay. Overall, if I encountered only 1 of the above issues, I think the service would have been acceptable, but to have all of them in unison on the first time I ever used a white glove service, which is not cheap by the way, I was quite disappointed. I've moved with PbP 4x since 2019. Each move was a little worse than the last. I would no longer recommend them. The price is fair, but the quality of the movers is not consistent, and what we contracted for (4 movers and a truck large enough for our stuff, with side access) did not come through. At least they only charged us for 3 movers, but "fragile" were piled under boxes marked "heavy". Seriously?!? read more

Vet was cursing in the yard with kids in lower apartment. Totaled a leather couch, damaged every other piece of furniture they touched. Expenditure Summary - Storage Fees: +$9,500 from August 2020 to June 2023 - Move Out: +$1,900 in August 2020 - Move In: +$2,000 in July 2023 - Total: ~$13,500 Automatic Storage Price Increase - During the pandemic, the monthly storage fees increased by $57. Expensive Moving Costs - My in-laws moved out of State, so we hired movers to handle all 100% of the packing and boxing during the move out. Surprisingly, the costs for both move out and move in were similar despite the move-in requiring less effort. Overall, the rates charged were excessively high. Damages from Packing and Storage - Throughout the 3 year period, many damages occurred to our belongings. Expensive shoes were poorly packed and damaged, inexpensive clothing was stained and had to be discarded, and designer branded clothing was also unsalvageable. Insurance Coverage - As per the attached email conversation, Marcelle Racine explained that the insurance coverage we had was based on weight. Consequently, valuable items such as Hermes and other branded clothing, were only covered for a total settlement of $18. The moving company also suggested filing a claim with our homeowners insurance... The moving company will not take responsibility for their mistakes. Instead, they conveniently redirect the issue to insurance coverage, reminding our limitations. A to Z Full Service - Despite having the moving company to do ALL 100% of the packing, boxing, loading, unloading and storing at their storage facility for 3 years, the mistake from the movers and handlers is conveniently disregarded. This lack of accountability enables workers to continue providing subpar service under the protection of their liability coverage. We thought we could trust their A to Z full service, but it turns out you still need more insurance coverage. How does an average consumer understand the nuance of insurance in these situations and expect to trust the professionals to provide A to Z service? The service is less than satisfactory. Compensation - After spending over $13,000 for their services, I am disappointed by the lack of any real compensation. I'd like to clarify that I am not entitled to better treatment. But rather, it saddens me that the company is unable to offer a real reparation despite having profited significantly from our business. "As a gesture of goodwill and customer service, I would be pleased to refund the full $60 to the card on file." Although they researched the cost and offered $60 for dry cleaning services, it felt like they were taking the easy way out. The clothing can not be restored anymore, yet, I'm supposed to accept the claims manager's estimated $60 dry cleaning reimbursement. I am disappointed by the company's handling of the situation. I hope that they will reflect on the lack of real compensation provided and take appropriate measures to rectify this matter, demonstrating a true commitment to customer satisfaction. read more

Its been 4 days. Day 1 I gave the agent my information. Day 2 I emailed and asked about the timeframe for a quote. I was told the quote was sent to me and would be resent. Day 3 -When I did not receive it I was told ( via email ) that I would be called that afternoon. Day 4 still no call. Received an email that my move was referred to an agent that handled out of state moves and she would contact me today. I emailed back please send me her email etc . Received no email/ no call. Not a single item was broken or missing nor was their any damage to either residence. They packed more than half of our stuff on the front end of the move, we did the rest. They shrink wrapped anything that could have been damaged by the rain. Everything was in perfect condition when they delivered it and they were great about putting everything exactly where we wanted it in the new home. I used them for two moves. they're fine with small moves like 1-2 bedrooms, but they can't handle larger moves. They didn't have a strategy and dumped all of our things into the house without a clear process which made it very difficult to unpack. The move also should've taken 2 days, but they squeezed it into one and ended up taking 12 hours at which point the workers were exhausted. The owner didn't care and took tens of thousands for payment, but never even followed up. I'd never use them again. read more

Piece by piece movers stepped in last minute when my movers canceled on me on apparently the busiest moving day in the city. I didn't require a lot of help so I couldn't meet the minimums that most companies required but also couldn't do it on my own. Piece by piece waived the minimum and charged me only for the time needed (including travel time + gas), and didn't charge me anything extra for having to come out on a moment's notice. The movers were friendly and made sure to ask where I wanted everything placed and worked carefully and decently efficiently (not the fastest movers on the planet, but given the way that movers bill I've never found fast movers). They did initially bill me incorrectly and overcharge me by about double, but they fixed it almost immediately when I pointed it out. It was still a bit more than I wanted to pay given that my move was very easy (within the same building) but it's not their fault that they provided a truck that I didn't need to use. The cost was dead on and even a bit less than quoted. In a prior move they were great. This past move, not so much. Their crew came to me at the end of the move, and suggested an insurance option that resulted in me being under insured. A $500 lamp was broken and they offered me $150. In the process they accused me of changing my insurance choice at the end of the move, when in fact they misled me. A massive truck from this moving company is currently parked outside of my condo building in Boston to move someone down the street. They do not have a permit to park here, which is required. They are crushing our street tree, have knocked over our trash bins, and are generally making a mess of the sidewalk. We have asked them to move multiple times, and they have skirted all of our requests - everyone on the crew saying they will let "the driver" know. They've been here for hours now. We have called their headquarters multiple times and gotten the same response. What moving company would not know that you need a permit to park a moving truck in Boston? We've alerted the city and are hopeful someone gets here to fine them soon, but I would suggest if you use this moving company you 1) make sure they're properly permitted, 2) be wary of atrocious and rude customer service, and 3) know they may end up causing damage to your neighbor's spaces. BEST MOVE EVER! The crew was on time, very pleasant, and incredibly efficient. They had all the hand tools required to dissemble stuff and wasted absolutely no time. Sprung up insurance requirements unexpectedly afterwards, took 2 hours to get to my address in Watertown, which I had to pay for, took additional 4 hours to move a 1 person household (trust me, I didn't have a lot of stuff, moved a lot of stuff myself, and everything was packed in advance) only 4 mins away. Gentle Giants changed me less to move me from Hopkinton to Watertown (wayyyy longer drive). The only reason I didnt go with Gentle Giants was because they were not available the day I wanted to move. I used PBP for a relatively small move within my apartment building and couldn't be more satisfied. The movers came in masks and were respectful of my building's COVID safety precautions. Both were incredibly friendly, hardworking, and blindingly quick in moving all my furniture. They were a delight to work with and I would use Piece by Piece again without any hesitation. Pricing was comparable to Pony Express but much more competitive against Gentle Giant. Just a tip - moving companies will sometimes require an x-hour minimum for a job, but the "start time" will be when the movers depart their warehouse for your apartment, not the time they show up at your place. Sometimes this "sunk time" can be as long as an hour. PBP was fully transparent about this, but just wanted to mention for prospective movers. read more

My name is beth and I hired piece by piece movers on march 4th 2024, and the three employees that were at my home took my teak outdoor table and chairs in the mist of the move. when the move was finishing I asked if everything was out of the truck and they told us yes, that all pieces were taken off the truck and unloaded, when I was unpacking items I noticed the table and chairs that I watched them load onto the truck wasn't there. when I tried to bring this issue up to the company and its other employees I was completely ignored and they have refused to give me my property back or any compensation for the taken furniture. after 2 months of barely and responses to emails or calls, they told me I would have to call the police if I had an issue. I tried to be nice and give them the benefit of the doubt, and an opportunity to own up to what happened and give me back my property as I didn't want to have to get police involved, but as they have refused to give me any information as to who the people were that were on my property, and and the office staff that have been handling the situation have been extremely rude and passive towards the situation I am left no choice. this is an extremely frustrating situation and would like to warn all customers that is company will refuse to help with any issues you have, unlike the guarantee on there website of "helpfulness with any issues". you would think with an issue this big a company would want to try to figure out what happened to ensure nothing like this happens again, but it is apparent they simply don't care. Worst moving company I've ever done business with! I've moved at least 10 times and never had any problems. Piece by piece movers damaged scratched soiled and destroyed several items. And they lost two boxes of irreplaceable items. The crew rushed and was very careless. When I reported this to Tim who I booked my move with he did nothing but refer me to other people in the company. Evan who is supposed to take care of claims basically blew me off. First of, this service is much more expensive than any other moving or storage service. I decided to use the service because the company is supposed to be recognized, reliable and easy to use. However, I have never had such a horrible experience as I had with them. I recently got my things back and everything is deteriorated. My table is completely scratched and has lost color. Some stuff is missing and I have been in the the phone all day and nobody has given me any answer. When I try to call they decline or then hang up the phone in my face. It is really hard for me to understand how durig such a devastating and traumatic moment in time, the service is so terrible and the company does not provide any feedback or has even responded my concerns. read more

This crew moved my office down the street in Fort Point. They provided plastic bins for packing and had lots of large bins for all the awkward stuff an office has lying around. The crews were fast, fun, and super clean. They put everything where I wanted it and always checked in to make sure things were going well. I had to reschedule our move in several times due to factors on our end, sometimes very last minute. I talked with Tim from the scheduling end each time who was kind, patient, and very accommodating. Do not use this company if you're storing anything you care about ever getting back, or if you plan on needing to speak to customer service. I used Piece by Piece to store some of my belongings for a few months. They picked up my things no problem, but getting them back was a complete mess. They delivered (some) of my belongings an entire week before the date I requested. Luckily I was moving into my new place early and could receive my stuff or they would have dropped my things outside a vacant apartment where they could be stolen. I also did not get one of my boxes. Piece by Piece lost my belongings and has made no effort to help get them back. In addition to this, they dropped off 4 more boxes that did not belong to me (another person's name & info was on them) 2 days after my first delivery (but they did come back to get these a few hours later). Piece by Piece is also nearly impossible to get in contact with. I've tried calling at different times and on different days, and no one ever picks up the phone--always straight to voice mail. The one time I got a real person, they said they couldn't help me and gave me another number to call that also went straight to voicemail. All in all, absolutely terrible service and not even for a good price. UPDATE: Eventually did get my missing box back! However, it was completely crushed. Glad I got it back but concerned about how they are handling people's things. read more

We recently used Piece by Piece / Roadrunner Moving & Storage (Same owners) to move our family within the city of Boston. We had high expectations as we had used Roadrunner Moving & Storage multiple times over the years dealing with the previous owner Dave. Dave was terrific to deal with and always stood by his work and his superior service. So our move day arrived, the new team showed up and we outlined with them what pieces were of high value and asked them to take extra care in wrapping them up and moving them. When we got everything moved into our new place and unpacked, we noticed that two of the most valuable items we owned were damaged. Obviously we were upset but understood that accidents happen. So we reached out to the new owners of PBP / RMS letting them know that these two items were damaged by their guys during our move and asked them to repair them. After many emails back and forth, they decided NOT to do the right thing and pay for the full cost of the repairs. Instead, they sent us a measly check that basically covers less than 10% of the repair costs. It's really unfortunate that after many years of working with the previous owner and having a really good experience, we will no longer use or be able to recommend these guys. read more
