Best Escape Room experience ever! My girlfriend's daughters are big fans of escape rooms, they have done dozens all across the country. I have been to four different ones with my girlfriend and my son and his girlfriend had never been to one but were dying to try it out so... I decided to surprise my girlfriend by proposing during an escape room with all of our kids there. I told the kids and they were all on-board right out of the gate. I called several of the local escape rooms and was met by responses like, "Sorry, we can't do that..." or "I guess that will be all right but you'll have to do it in the lobby because you can't take pictures in the room" or, most often, "I will have my manager call you back" and then nothing. Then I called Exit Strategy South and they were so excited by the idea! They had done engagements before and had wonderful ideas on how to make the occasion special. There staff met with me prior to the event and showed me the room we'd be escaping room and we discussed where we could stash the ring to pop the question. Just super service all the way... The morning of the event my son delivered the ring and the staff placed it in the room. Everything went off without and hitch! My girlfriend was surprised, all the kids got to be there and barely cried at how sweet the whole experience was. Cannot wait to try out the other rooms after the wedding. read more

We were a party of 4 in the Gone Room. We are a pretty smart group and have done escape rooms in the past, but we were pretty frustrated throughout this game. The clues were ambiguous and somewhat illogical. Things also weren't working right away, so we wasted time thinking we were wrong when we actually were right. Another frustrating thing was the flashlights. I understand they need to be kept low for ambiance, but at one point we had them right against the lock and still had a hard time seeing. The redeeming quality about this place was the room itself. They definitely put a lot of time and thought into the layout and the props. It felt professionally put together, and you truly get the feeling of being in a haunted house. read more

In the world of escape rooms newer is better. This is the older of the two Exit Strategy locations and it certainly shows. Location: poorly lit industrial and or commercial park. Strip of nondescript buildings near truck rental and other distribution industry lots. No nearby restaurants or anything for the public. They must be getting a great deal on a lease because there is no other reason to choose this location unless you want zero foot traffic. The room: I did lost in space, all I can say is don't. The challenges were either obvious or obtuse. There was no thematic or story reason to find certain clues needed to complete tasks other than the clue was there and you hadn't used it yet. I don't want to spoil it for you and I won't. It was almost entirely fetch the key find the combination. Number of participants: they say eight max, but unless you want to volunteer to be one of the four people doing nothing then I suggest four max. In my opinion the optimal number would be three people, or two if very experienced. The operator assured me the other rooms were newer and better. I would have gladly accepted this advice prior to paying for the room, it didn't do me any good afterwards. Go to the North Location and do the Ruins, it sets a high standard with not so obvious fetch clues. read more

I went here for my first escape room and it was so much fun! Two of us went mid day on a Friday to escape the space adventure room. At first I was really freaked out. It was very dark in the hallways and the safety video was a little creepy, but the guide Aaron put my mind at ease and kept the experience light hearted and was completely awesome! It's perfect for the type of person who loves to seek out a good scare. But what made the experience even more enjoyable was our Game Master Kate. Exit Strategy is one of the two highest production quality rooms around town - and overall is probably number 1. They invest a lot into their rooms and I have had a good time in each that I have played. The Lost in Space room is an easier starting point for a lot of people - and should be one you try first if possible. It isn't scary or very difficult, but it has plenty of cool twists and turns to get the novice interested in escape rooms all together. The Quest of Honor room is King Arthur themed and really a good challenge. It is harder than the Lost in Space room, but it also is pretty fun. I would feel really comfortable letting a kid play this room with me, unlike other rooms around town. If you aren't into dragons or casting spells, skip this room. Final Sacrifice is the hardest room period around town. Do not under any circumstance play this as your first room ever, or even as your first room at Exit Strategy. You will be wasting your money. I also suggest you get multiple people in line and fill the room. You do not want randoms playing with you as every team member can make or break you in this room. I have heard that this room has only been completed around 5 times total. Seriously, its ridiculous. My team only managed about 40% - but it was our first room ever. There is plenty of parking in the warehouse district that Exit Strategy operates it's games from. The lobby is well laid out and there is a waiting room for you to enter before you go off on your adventure. They also have lockers to place your keys wallet and phones in before you head into the escape room. read more

Came here as a team building event with my co-workers. We had a mixed group of 8 some of whom had done escape rooms before and others who had not. We reserved the murder mystery room and our game master was pretty awesome. She did a great job of explaining everything to get us ready for the one hour experience. Definitely would go back again to try another room. Great experience for friends, family or work event. And by the way, we did get out with 7 1/2 minutes to spare. read more

Put your thinking cap on for this! I came here with a group of 10 with making reservations a few weeks ahead of time so that we wouldn't be with strangers. I'm not scared of strangers, but I was worried that I wouldn't be able to act my crazy self in front of people I don't know. If you book a room and there are still spaces at that time for that room, others can still reserve and you'll just work with them to get out. When we first pulled up to the area, I wasn't sure if we were in the right area, as it looks like it's out in the middle of nowhere, but you'll be able to see the business name right on the door. No fear! Walking in, you'll have someone greeting you immediately to your right. The people who helped us were super friendly and was able to check us all in quickly. What I did like about this place was while we were waiting, there is also a separate game room/waiting area so you can play some foosball and chit chat. I also loved how they had a big map with pins of where different people were from. My husband was happy that there was no pin from Thailand, so he was able to stick the first Thailand pin in there. Yay! Once it was time for us to start, they gathered us up in the lobby area and explained all the rules and let us put our things in lockers. Now just warning you, the hallway is kinda dark and that spooked me out a bit on my way to the restroom, but it's good that it's dark as they want to keep all the different rooms confidential. The room my group did was called Lost In Space and I really enjoyed it! Sadly, we didn't make it out within the 60 minutes, but I still had a lot of fun. Since the only people in the room were my friends and not strangers, I was able to yell out things in the room and act cray cray trying to solve our way out. Even if you don't finish the room, you won't know how to get out as they will not tell you the last steps you need. They did, however, inform us that we were 90% close to exiting. *sniffle* Seriously, if you're looking for something to do in Charlotte, try this out! You'll love it! read more

Want to get locked in a Room and frustrated when you can't get out!. Cool idea, i never would have thought to come up with. My first introduction to this was when my girlfriend took me here were out filling me in on any of the details. She has chosen a Room Theme, (DISCO, CABIN, Space, etc) these could not longer exist or be replaced and each room is taylored to certain number of people. So say cabin is best for 6-8 people , but disco is good for 4-6. However you can do the rooms with less than optimal amounts. Depending on the room, you solve clues or puzzle which will eventually lead you out the room. The goal is to complete that task in under a hr. It's a really cool experience, and my one tip is to not over think too much while in the room. I used my brain to much and got taken down some wild goose paths. So watch out brainiacs! read more

Do NOT do the Twisted room. This one needs a major overhaul. There's a difference between being challenging and cryptic. Hidden clues galore and outright trickery when trying to stick to the directions. There is only one clue that will test your intelligence. One. This one will leave a bad taste in your mouth which is odd because their others rooms are pretty good. I would be happy with a refund or a credit for a future room. read more

Cabin in the Woods at Exit Strategy was an okay experience but not great. I came here with a group of six and we were merged in with a few strangers. It is always nice to meet new people but I will just flat out say that the strangers can hinder the experience. Going with people you know or at least friends of friends was a much better experience as they are less in it for themselves and more willing to participate in teamwork. The host of the attraction did not help with the matter. She just went over the rules and stuck us in the room. No time for introductions of our teammates and no advocacy of teamwork. In comparison to a room escape I did in Raleigh, NC, this location was not up to par due to some other factors as well. The host did not provide a back story, did not stay with our group (instead we just got a walkie), and had no enthusiasm; it felt like we were just the next horde of people to get in and out. The most disappointing part was after we had failed, they would not tell us what we did wrong and would not answer any questions. Their response was that we will have to come back and try the room again which seems ridiculous since I now have an advantage that would ruin the experience for myself and others, and they also have six other rooms. The place itself is pretty cool. They have a waiting room with a foosball table and when you walk into the area where the rooms are, it is thematically dark and creepy. What I liked in particular about Cabin in the Woods was the jail bar style divider within the room which really made me want to get to the other side and provided a midway accomplishment. The level of difficulty advertised was no joke; it was hard. read more

Total waste of money! We did final sacrifice, the start was very intriguing, they put a pillowcase over your head and chain you to the wall. Having that pillowcase over your head you don't know what to expect. But after that, it's all downhill. Needless to say we don't solve the room. It's a tough team building activity. After 60 minutes times up. They never tell you how to complete it. So frustrating. They give you hints. In my opinion you need an engineering degree to get put of there. Whoever invented this is genius, they make so much money with so little overhead. I won't go back. Would love to know how to solve this room, but for $25 would much rather do something else. If your easily frustrated and get mad when you wast money, don't go. read more

What a fun, different and exciting way to spent time with friends on a random Saturday night. I love new things and Exit Strategy is exactly what this town needs!! I get tired of the same old, mundane options and Exit Strategy truly brings a new flare to the QC. We had a group of 10 and we were in the Murder Mystery room. I know I can't give a lot away but I will just say it was way more challenging than I had expected! I didn't really know what to expect but the part of my brain that was required for this event is not the most vibrant side if I can put it that way! :) Don't make fun of me....with only a 20-25% success rate I would venture to say several of you don't use that side of your brain very often! Let that be a challenge to you though...Go for it. Try! See if you can get out of that room in an hour. Message me if you get out because I want to personally congratulate you! An hour goes by quick and so in some ways you feel like the $25 per person is unreasonable especially when there is no reward for getting out. They should give you half of your money back if you get out. Or give you a free visit to try one of the other rooms. SOMETHING! They have three rooms currently...the 70's room is supposedly requires math..which no thanks, the cabin in the woods is supposedly a little creepy and of course the murder mystery room which is great. They are also in the process of creating another room which has a space theme. Interesting. Of course I can knit pick and think of ways this whole thing could improve but overall it was really a fun event and it had us talking about it for the rest of the night which I would say is the point! All of us want to return and we are determined to solve the murder. You leave a little unsatisfied because they don't tell you the rest of the story.....smart on their end!! It would have been cool if there were surprises that entered during the hour (lights out or a note slipped under the door or whatever). You could take it in soooo many angles. It would also be cool to see a room that wasn't just about unlocking things but maybe literally having to solve a murder with forensics or by working as a team in some physical capacity. Bottom lin is that there is room to grow and expand and Exit Strategy is here to stay. Great concept, lots of new ideas to be had and they seem to be ever-evolving in their approach which is awesome. I had never done an escape the room game (except in video game point and click adventures) before Exit Strategy. Being able to examine clues and work with people in person is awesome. I've gone twice now and enjoyed both rooms. The first one I did was Cabin in the Woods, which was HARD. I probably should not have chosen that to be the first room I did. My group only got 50% through with hints. The fact that I have not yet gone back and finished the room yet still haunts me. The set up of the room and the fact that you are led in blind-folded really fits with the theme. One day, I will come back to finish the room, and my mind will be at ease. The next time I went we did the Murder Mystery themed room. The cool part about this one is that your goal is not to escape, it's to solve the murder by answering the questions who, what, when, and why. The room is still difficult, but we beat it with 8 minutes to spare and only two hints! I hope to eventually do all the rooms, and so do all of my friends who have gone here. read more

I booked a date special for the week of Valentines Day and suprised my boyfriend with this. I wouldn't tell him anything about where we were going, so you can imagine his surprise when they started off by making us put everything in lockers, making us read the rules, then locking us in a room (by that time he had caught on, I think...) We were in the 70s room and didn't make it out. I won't share any of the secrets (its no fun if I do!), but we had a ton of fun and were super disappointed when the time was up and we hadn't solved all the puzzles. We apparently did well for just a team of two, but I was ready to go back right when our time was up. They recently moved into a bigger location so they have three rooms. Just remember to really get there 15 minutes ahead of time so that you can start your hour on time and maybe have time at the end to celebrate (or figure out the clues you missed). This would be a great team-building event, date or fun activity with a group of friends! read more

Really enjoyed my team outing with my coworkers at Exit Strategy. This was everyone's first time doing an escape room. We all chose to play the Murder Mystery room and we all enjoyed it. The process was quick and easy. We all signed our waiver online to save time at check in and reserved out time slot online. There is plenty of parking in front of the building. Once we all arrived we checked in and put all of our phones and keys in the lockers available. We then all went to the briefing room and watched a short video about the rules of the room and game. After the video our game immediately started and we were escorted to our room. We all enjoyed the room and plot. The room was very well decorated to the theme. We luckily got out of the room before the 1 hour time limit with only using 3 clues. The hour goes by really quickly so you have to be careful how you use your time. Overall I am a fan of escape rooms now. It's a great concept and a lot of options to choose from. I believe there were 7 other rooms to choose from. Exit Strategy is very clean, the employees were very helpful and it was decently priced for team outings. read more

My family and friends have spent more time upset with our experience here than we actually spent at Exit Strategy. To preface, we did the Quest of Honor room, and we left very disappointed. The instructions given in the rooms were painfully unsubstantial, in order to progress the puzzle we relied on a fuzzy walkie talkie. Trying to communicate over this walkie talkie felt garbled and frustrating, and generally ruined any feeling of immersion that you are paying to get. On top of that, the staff seemed far more concerned with the facility itself than the experience of the customers, as the briefing essentially was a "don't mess up the room" spiel. When it came to the setup of the room, many of the elements weren't working as they should; a lantern that wouldn't light that was essential in a dark room, for example. This only added to the frustration already present in the room. The icing on the cake for my family and friends was that one of the steps in the puzzle was set up completely wrong. A lock was backwards and, as such, we were unable to progress the puzzle for the remainder of the time in the room. We spent this time sitting around the room, occasionally fiddling with the lock but ultimately just regretting the decision to come in the first place. TL;DR: Do not come to exit strategy, do not pay $25 (per PERSON) to have them waste your time. My family and friends all feel scammed. This is not how escape rooms should be. read more

As the first "escape room" that I have ever participated in, Final Sacrifice was easily something that drew me into this type of adventure. Just challenging enough to make me want to rip my hair out and curse Baruda, and yet so interesting that I can't wait to go back! We failed this time (not too upset, considering the success rate is something like 1%), but I will definitely be back to try again! read more

Went there for the first time today and I must say it was quite a challenge. My friends and I had to work with strangers but they were really fun to work with. Next time I would want to get all of my friends to go just cause working with people you know would be even more fun. I did the murder mystery and Travis explained all the rules. We knew what not to do and he even gave us hints when needed. The room was set up for the scenario and had a lot of clues that would lead to different clues. When I first got into the room, I had no idea where to start but it eventually worked out. The hardest part is figuring out what the clues meant. My team was able to do it with three hints! Which I think is good for a first time. I'd definitely do it again!! Just be prepared to be confused and stressed with the timer going down! read more
