The yoga is excellent too. A well designed studio with infrared heat, and a soothing atmosphere. The instructors are the best. After years of practice I am finally getting full explanations of the basic poses. Dozens of, "oh that is how that is supposed feel moments". So much so that I am comfortable practicing at home daily now. I highly recommend the workshops and sauna as well. A really great place, it's no wonder she has won so many awards.

Reformer classes are capped at 4 people, each 6 feet apart, and instructors are masked. I'm hesitant to let others in on this gem, but In Balance deserves all the accolades. :-)

I thought I was coming to her for "fitness pilates" but in fact that is not what I needed or wanted. With her keen eye, intuition, and experience she has identified ways in which my body was compensating that really could have developed into major issues when I get older. I am so happy to be working on them now with her to prevent long term issues. All while still developing muscle and definition that pilates naturally brings. Anna provides exceptional instruction, in that she gives wonderful cues and explains the movements incredibly well. I have done pilates before coming to Anna, but she goes the extra mile with helping me to understand exactly how to do the movement. The way she corrects me is one of things I value the most about her. I can do pilates at home, but I know I will be doing a lot of things wrong. With her I can learn how my body is unconsciously compensating for certain weaknesses or ingrained movements, i.e., gripping my glutes, using one leg more than the other, tucking my pelvis, flaring my ribs, etc. In learning these I can feel more confident in my ability to do home workout's when I do have the opportunity to do them. I have also worked with Sonja and Lynn before Anna and I can say that they are exceptional as well and I look forward to working with them when Anna is not available. Everyone at Synergy Studio is warm and welcoming. Kim will greet you with the biggest smile when you walk in. Michel is the founder of Ombrella, a "business," and I really hesitate to call it that, with a core mission of helping people of all ages feel better in their bodies so they enjoy life more. I was invited into one of Michel's classes by an Indy-based friend who had signed up for a six-week course on Liturgical Yoga. During this pandemic, I have slowly transitioned myself into yoga and the opportunity of combining that with my theological foundation is extremely compelling. While there are those Christians who don't embrace the world of yoga or Reiki or other spiritual practices as truly "Christian," this is a stance with which I disagree (and am well able to argue theologically and biblically). As I enter my 50s, a surprise to both myself and nearly every physician I've ever had except my current primary care physician who prefers to embrace my longevity, I'm finding an increased focus on my wellness rather than my disability and an increased focus on sharing that sense of wellness with others who have disabilities. However, I'd be lying if I said I was truly comfortable with my body. I'm working on it. As evidence of my growth, for years I called it "the body." I wouldn't claim it until one particularly influential relationship nudged me successfully in that direction. I expected rejection by the yoga community - I have, for the most part, found just the opposite. However, Michel's experience is my first movement toward greater immersion and personal connection. I'm participating in a six-week course in Liturgical Yoga. We meet once weekly for an hour that incorporates yoga, scripture, meditation, and breath. It is a "no experience necessary" class that embraces all levels and all bodies. We really listen intently to ourselves, our bodies, and the wisdom from scripture. I have so far found the class to be insightful and enlightening in ways that are difficult to describe in words. Michel also offers through Ombrella "Story and Stretch: Narrative Yoga for Kids," labyrinth experiences, meditation/mindfulness classes, and Reiki (I am also a Reiki Master). She also has a Fruitful Living Course and a "Tidy Your Temple" Detox. To be in her presence, truly, is to be energized and to become equipped to live with your body joyously and to be better equipped for healthier living in daily life. While I am still early in my class, I've found myself immersed in reflection throughout and influenced by this knowledgeable, open-hearted teacher who embraces areas where I have so much to learn.
