The Hot Spot people have found a way to create physically engaging classes that are not completely inaccessible to newcomers to yoga. I am surprised each time (3 in total) someone said, after a challenging class, that this was their first yoga class and they were still able to enjoy themselves. Most people require a couple of experiences before they are able to enjoy the feel good that comes with the practice. But not so much here at Hot Spot. The instructors are well informed and prepared to work with all levels without talking down to newbies or holding up the class for those who are more seasoned in practice. Although they begin and end the class with 1-3 chants of Aum, the more spiritual aspects of yoga are minimized here. Unless they have a special workshop, there will be no quotes from the Bhagavad Gita or dissertations on some quote from Rumi. Normally this is a detterent for me, but I don't fault them for doing their thing. This practice is almost all about movement, breath, focus, and alignment. They clap at the end of class. I always find this weird. But one day there were a few new yogis who unexpectedly ended up taking a rather difficult class and the fact that we all made it to the end enlightened me to one of the purposes of applauding at the end of class: "Good job everybody. We did it together. Nice." I still don't clap though. Have you ever had a yoga instructor with an attitude? What's that about? Well, you probably won't have that problem here because all of the instructors here are well-trained, attend trainings often, take each others' classes to provide feedback, and are genuinely interested in improving theirs and others' practice. Let me give a quick shout out to my favorite instructor, Kintu, who gets us together on Monday and Wednesday mornings. I have never breathed deeper and more consistently than I do now thanks to her pointers and instruction. To review: You will get a work out, but if you're new don't be intimidated because there's room for you and also people will applaud your effort at the end. The instructors are great. read more

Why did I not find this place sooner? How have I gone this long without ever trying this out? Those are the two questions you will ask yourself- then you'll get addicted and never leave. This is probably one of the best workouts I've ever had. The combination with the heated room makes you leave feeling detoxed, rejuvenated, and like you just got the most intense butt-kicking workout. I've enjoyed every single class I've tried with each different Instructor and honestly recommend this place to everybody I talk to. I have never tried Baptiste Yoga before so this was a first. Anyone who says 'hot yoga' isn't a work out, clearly hasn't tried it. I feel like I'm in shape but this kicked my butt. The class pushes you to challenge yourself but you can still take things at your pace if the poses are too advanced. They wind down at the end and give you lavender towels to help relax. Hot Spot Power Yoga is a must if you need to unwind, distress or simply indulge in an all body workout. Great experience! If you are looking to attend a class at this location, I highly recommend taking one of Ilsa's classes! She keeps up the energy in the room in her power classes and always has the perfect music! Ilsa also teaches a class called "music and flow" on Friday afternoons that is a fun class with a new batch of themed music every week. read more

So, I've only been to this studio once so far, after purchasing a voucher for $30 for 30 days unlimited. But I can tell you, it's super clean and smells nice, there are two studios, a nice cubby area for your things and a handy key fab after you get started to make checking in and keeping track effortless. The PM classes are definitely popular... get there early to get a good spot. It is indeed toasty, so make sure you bring some water and a towel. (They have water for sale and a cooler to fill your to go cup from home.) I had a great workout, still sore actually and looking forward to my next class. (I do wish they had "lunchtime" options available, but realize not everyone has as flexible of a schedule as I do.) I'll have to update later about instructors and insider tips, after I make a few more sessions. read more

Pros: Two studios, accessible location, very clean, fantastic owners, friendly and helpful instructors. Cons: Wish there were more early morning classes other than T/TH. The three instructors I've had have all been excellent. Each class has been different but challenging, as you'd hope for in a hot yoga practice. Would highly recommend this spot as a heated power yoga studio! The instructors are very friendly and they take the time to get to know each and every one of their students. I loved it here and miss it a lot. Their style of yoga is more athletic and boy will it make you sweat! The rooms are heated to a comfortable 85°F. There are two studios here. One is heated and one isn't. Yesterday I visited the Hot Spot yoga studio in search of switching up my work out routine. This studio was suggested to me by one of my girlfriends. She told me you have to take the YOD class! It will change your whole life. I got to the studio at 10am prepared to take the 10:30 YOD class. I was greeted by Kiersten who not only checked me in but also told me that she would be the instructor for the day. I went not knowing what to expect besides a more intense workout because this yoga session also includes HITT! She assured me that I would be fine and to just go at my own pace. When I tell you that this class was everything that I was looking for and more I kid you not! I used muscles that I have not used since I was 2 lol! I was weary about joining a new yoga studio, as the one I had been practicing at was nothing short of amazing back in Omaha. But this place has the same feel. I walked in and immediately felt welcome!! I was unfamiliar with the Baptiste practice, however it is similar to the Vinyasa Flow I love. They don't play music during the practice which was different for me but definitely helps you focus your attention to the present practice. One thing I loved was that during savasana they give you a cool lavender soaked towel-- which was just what was needed after a sweaty and intense practice! This is by far the best yoga studio I have ever been a part of. You TrueType feel like you are part of a community here. All the instructors are very knowledgeable and genuinely care about your practice. Do not be anxious to try this place out because you will always feel at home. There are so many levels of people that go here from beginners to seasoned yogis. They are a variety of classes to fit all needs. All I have to say is......cold lavender towels. This is my heaven. The instructors here are great, have not had one that I didn't like and most are great with assisting as well. Everything is newly remodeled due to the hurricane and while I do miss the smaller room feel I think that the larger room has brought in more clients which is always good to see. A lot of regulars that come in the 6am class which is great as people get to know each other (great for accountability too). Fun workshops on the weekends are available regularly and lots of great charity work as well. Highly recommend! read more

I've tried a few hot yoga studios in Jacksonville over the years and this one definitely stands out. I've been a student at Hot Spot for a little over a year now and plan to continue. This studio is clean and the teachers are all very knowledgable and professional. The classes are challenging enough but good for all levels as you can modify to fit your needs. The thing that keeps me coming back though, is the friendliness and "community-like" atmosphere. There is a welcoming and encouraging environment at Hot Spot that makes you feel confident to get in there and try new challenges in your practice without fear of judgement or embarrassment. This yoga place is great. The instructors are very well-trained, friendly and lead great classes. I am removing one star because it is annoying that classes consistently do not start on time. By the time the instructor comes in 10 minutes late, introduces herself, makes us introduce ourselves to others, etc. it is 15 minutes later. It does not put me in a calm space to begin the class. Otherwise it is wonderful. read more

I've been taking classes at the Harbour Village Studio for the past month and a half. I had taken yoga classes at gyms before and could never stick to it, I really like Hot Spot Power Yoga. The instructors are helpful, the place is very clean and we even laugh a lot during class. I truly wish I could go more often, not as cheap as the gym. My daughter never liked yoga but I asked her to go with me to try it out and she loves it too. They will have to move into a larger space soon as classes are getting pretty full!! read more
