The beginning of this meal was great but slowly declined as the meal went further and further along. We had a group of 6 and was seated quickly. They have a menu shortage so we all shared menus which not a big deal, but was strange and made sense why it took so long to get menus after seating. We all ordered cocktails which were very good. We all ordered a bunch of apps as well, the sushi was delicious, the spicy tuna crispy rice was also a favorite. We all ordered entrees which ended up being lack luster. The Asian pepper steak came out cold, which they did remake. The steak used seem to be trimmings of the steaks. It was very tough and fatty. If I have on piece of advice DO NOT ORDER THE TABLE SIDE FRIED RICE. It came out after we were already half way done with our meals, and it's literally on a chilis fajita skillet. They charge $36 and the portion size was maybe 1.5 cups of rice. (See picture, no one had taken any off of the plate) They dump raw egg on it that doesn't fully cook with the skillet, and the sauce on top was so gross. Honestly the ambiance is amazing here, very pretty, drinks were good, and our server was amazing. But for our food I was very disappointed. The pasta did not taste like anything, and personally the salmon was very gummy. The manager was okay with giving 2 people at the table a refund but not the others...so it resulted in all of us only getting 50% off. I appreciated it, but to give the accommodation to two people but not for two others who all ordered the same food is ridiculous! Wouldn't come here outside for the bar, the manager was pretty rude, and just walked away and dismissed us. Staff was very accommodating with me with setting up a surprise dinner for my mom. We arrived a little early. We stayed our whole time in a little bit over. The Darius are server was absolutely on top of it. I looked everything about him, his presentation, his knowledge, his sense of being there. He made sure everything ran very smoothly. Wow what a GEM! My partner and I took a trip to Detroit, we stumbled on ZUZUs they didn't disappoint. From the moment we walked in the service was top tier. My waitress Que is the ABSOLUTE best! I'm big on customer service, I ask a lot of questions. She helped me with some of our selections. Very patient and funny if I had a business I'd love for her to represent it. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly 10/10, not overcooked and very tender. The Miso Sea Bass wraps 10/10 the Asian infusions are so creative. I've never had anything like this in my life! The ambiance is just my style a little loud but I could most definitely hear my partner as we chatted. No big deal to me, I figured the good food had everyone was chatting. I don't know how this was my first time trying Experience Zuzu when it's been open for years. We went on a Sunday night to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it was much busier than we expected. Despite the crowd, service was excellent. Our server Alene was wonderful, and Chris was kind enough to take a bunch of photos of our group. They even brought out a complimentary birthday dessert and champagne for the table, which was such a thoughtful touch. Just a heads up: there's a 20% gratuity automatically included, but it's very well-deserved. We ordered the Japanese A5 Wagyu skewer, Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, Truffle Scallop & Asian Pear Roll, Lobster Tempura Roll, Lil Z's Sweet & Sour Chicken, and Yaki Udon Noodles with beef tenderloin. This was a date night selection for us while we went to downtown because of a lot of reviews we had gotten from friends and yes it didn't disappoint. They have a good selection of appetizers and entrees, though desserts can be better. The serving staff was very careful with special requests we were putting in. My boyfriend personally felt the place a bit overpriced but I can come back to it again atleast one more time. We were a bit disappointed by the zuzu campfire dessert we ordered as it felt very basic and 22$ was way over priced for the quality of the items in the dessert. Extremely disappointed after sitting at the bar with only 4 other patrons already eating their meal. The bartender made no effort to greet me, provide a menu or anything for almost 10 mins. One of the servers saw me sitting and waiting provide me with a water and asked if I wanted to sit in her section to get service. This was very kind but unacceptable, the bar staff should acknowledge their customers even if need to perform other task prior to serving their guest. This place looks super cool. The ceiling had some sort of decor that I can't even describe. There were disco balls and lots of red elements. And some Asian influences well. First off always get Q as your waitress. She is beyond amazing! I've been to this spot TWICE now in the same month. The first time she was my actual waitress and she went above and beyond to make sure my birthday dinner was amazing! It took us a minute to get service at the outside bar. Then the food took a while. But the food was on point so I can't complain about that! The tree leches was not my favorite I'll pass on that next time. However the margarita glass with the cake dessert was amazing even though it was huge and we didn't finish it! The lamb chops, and steaks are great. Except mine came out and weren't smoking on the grill like I've seen in other reviews and how our steaks came out the first time. So again not sure if it was the new waitress having an off night or the restaurant overall is having an off night. Because they were out of a drink the waitress suggested to us. Then my drink took a long time to come out as well. But all in all even with those hiccups. Finally found the perfect evening to experience ZuZu. They do offer valet parking, but we were able to find parking on the street about a block away. Once we walked in, we gave them the name in which our reservation was under. We were seated within 5 minutes in a cute half circle booth. It wasn't too crowded in there so that was a plus for us (the joy of coming downtown on a weekday). As I looked around, I noticed the inside was a lot smaller than I expected. I guess the pictures online made it appear bigger. But, everything was very well kept, clean, and organized. And The lighting was very dim and intimate. We had an amazing waitress. I don't remember her name, but she was of shorter stature, black hair, and a beautiful personality. I also want to add that the menu needs to be updated, because as we were ordering, our waitress notified us that the restaurant DOES NOT serve green beans anymore. Its listed as a side for some entrees. There is no substitution and the price listed remains the same. So that was a little disappointing. We ordered the following drinks, appetizers, and entrees: "what we do is secret" cocktail, lobster tempura sushi, truffle scallop&Asian pear sushi, crab&lobster tacos, wagu gyoza, wagu tomahawk, new York strip, and brussel sprouts. When I tell you everything was absolutely PERFECT *chef kiss * !!!!! The only thing we didn't care for was the truffle scallop sushi. The truffle oil was not pleasing to the palate. I couldn't even eat another piece after trying it once. Definitely different and hard to ignore. We had reservations at Zuzu to celebrate with family. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated and gives Miami vibes. It's a Japanese fusion place so they did incorporate Asian touches to the decor. We had 9 people and we got seated on the first floor in the back which is considerably darker than the rest of the restaurant. My poor aunt and uncle had to use their phone flashlight to read the menu. I understand the whole ambiance thing, but it was just a bit too dark (hence my mediocre pictures). Our servers were very nice and welcoming. We had some appetizers to start and the walnut shrimp was cooked really well but honestly didn't taste nor see any walnut. The wagyu gyoza was decent but didn't have much filling for the price we paid. We also got 2 sushi rolls as appetizers since we all wanted to order from the kitchen for our dinner entree. I didn't care for the lobster tempura roll since they used cream cheese in it. It honestly ruined the sushi. The scallop truffle blue fin toro roll was my favorite and actually was fresh and light. I got the miso glazed sea bass which was good but was missing a side of vegetables or greens. It was just fish and a side of rice. The glaze was on the sweeter side and after talking with my family, their dishes (shishito pepper steak & roasted chicken) were also very sweet like they added sugar to all their sauces. The shrimp garlic noodles were delicious but heavily salted so that ruined the noodles too. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by not only the hospitality staff but by Moe, the manager/owner. Rosario, our server, was very, very attentive anticipating our needs. The food! Wow! The salmon -the best we have ever had and we've had a lot of salmon dishes! 11/10! The bubbly drinks were a lot of fun! Our only complaint initially was with the appetizer. We initially ordered the tempera sweet potato fries, and as you can see in the photograph, we were provided with two sweet potato fries and tempura green beans which the menu never mentioned. While they were good, it was not what we thought we had ordered. Upon indicating to the waiter and Moe about our concerns, they immediately addressed the matter. Not only where we provided with the order shown but other small touches throughout the evening. This is what I call customer service. The second order of the tempura sweet potato fries were spectacular. Drizzled with honey and so tasty-loved them! Very unique. I am not keen on an automatic 20% gratuity being added, as I would've likely left more, but had feelings about this automatic addition, -which by the way, some people might fail to notice. Was in the area for work and craving sushi--so glad Zuzu popped up on my map because wow. From the moment we walked in, Angel set the tone as an amazing hostess, getting us settled and taking our coats with ease. Mars was our waitress and an absolute knockout. Super attentive, checked in with us consistently without ever hovering, and we never once felt forgotten or had to flag her down. The cocktails were superb, and the food was simply next level. We started with the Wagyu gyoza and the crispy rice spicy tuna--that crispy rice was unreal. Honestly, insane. For specialty rolls, we went with the Ora King, Jalapeño Hamachi, and Truffle Scallop. Every single roll melted in your mouth and somehow topped the last. Just ridiculous in the best way. Overhyped as a top notch appetizer, greatly over battered with a sweet sauce and barely contained any shrimp.
