They're usually able to accommodate walk-ins. We've sat at the bar a few times, but honestly, it's a great experience either way. As a vegan, I really appreciate the variety of options. The fried tofu has an excellent texture and is served with perfectly fluffy rice. A really cool casual yet upscale Chinese bar and restaurant to check out in Detroit. The drinks were great and the dragonade was really cool looking. I got the Chinese spare ribs which were tender and had a nice taste, but were on the dry side for me. There wasn't enough sauce. The French fries were good with the special dipping sauce it came with. The service was nice. I do think it's a bit overpriced for the portions you get, especially for the dumplings. I had a craving for dim sum and I'm vegan, so I was thrilled to see that the peterboro had a mushroom dumpling appetizer and chose it for our last date spot of 2025. We made a reservation for 4pm on New Year's Eve, drove thru the snow, easily found street parking (and it was free because it was a holiday!) walked around the corner through the falling snow and found our way inside the peterboro where we were promptly greeted and seated. Our server made her way over bearing water and service was on point all night. Not to mention the really cool ambiance. Red accent lanterns, tiger wall art, black tables and booths. We were one of two tables when we got there but the place started to fill up pretty quickly. We had the jade and the shaolin temple to drink from the NWA menu, both tasty. Jade was sweeter while shaolin had more of a sour kick. My spouse adored the fried chicken bao buns, and his sesame chicken was good but the house hot sauce took it to amazing level. I had the sesame tofu, which was just ok in my opinion. Pieces were small cubes and heavily done, I think if they did bigger chunks the tofu would sing more, or if there was a braised option of tofu that would be cool. But oh. My. Goodness... the mushroom dumplings were incredible. A good size, tasty savory with just a bit of heat and topped with more mushroom. I would definitely order them again. We stopped into Peterboro last minute and ended up sitting at a high top..best decision ever! Marty greeted us right away and instantly made us feel like we'd known him for years. His energy, knowledge of the menu, history, ingredients... everything! He's truly a standout asset to this establishment. He made the experience amazing!!! The rest of the staff was just as attentive and on top of it. And the food... OMG. Every single dish was incredible. This is great Chinese restaurant in Detroit. I love the decor inside this place its simple nostalgic vide with a hint of modern feel. So many drink options on the list to pick from and their small plates and entrées are so tasty. Easy access, close free parking, fun ambiance. This is one of my pet peeves- staff that is not properly trained on serving and/or the menu. It's an easy fix - have them try the dishes, tell them what's in it, something unique about it. Advise them on tasty drink pairings. What an amazing place. So glad to see rejuvenation to the old plot of Detroits china town off peterboro st. And Cass ave. Plenty of street parking and paid parking lot next door if needed. The decor is wonderful, fun, and inviting. So much spectacle to lay your eyes on. Statutes. Chineses lanterns. Murals. Paintings. A wonderfully lit establishment with something in every nook and cranny. Loved it. The food was just as great. We had for appetizers the crab Rangoon (with actual crab!) and the the mushroom dumplings with shiitake broth. The Rangoons were great, very crispy and stuffed full. The chili plum sauce was a great addition. The broth was a wonderful compliment to the dumplings which had an earthy savory flavor and was full of scallions and shiitake mushrooms. For our mains my partner had the beef and broccoli and I had the lo mien with shrimp. I was expecting a couple larger shrimp, but was not disappointed with plenty of small ones. My dish was flavorful and fresh and the added veggies via peppers onions and pea-pods was great. (They did say snow peas, not pea pods on the menu, but thats minor) it was excellent. The smoky flavor profile combined with the fresh veg and rustic homemade noodles made for a succulent Chinese meal. My partner got the beef and broccoli with jasmine rice and the beef was plentiful with a sesame oil garnish that gave a wonderful nutty flavor and the broccoli was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crisp. The provided jasmine rice was great too. All wonderfully portioned. For drinks we each started with a thai tiger lager. so good, i dont undestand why more places dont carry it. My favorite beer. We finished with a hibiscus infused cocktail for her and a dragonfruit soda for me. The cocktail was tasty and strong and my dragonfruit soda was delicious and came in a cute tiki glass with a heart shaped straw. We each had a nice buzz. Our server Jo was excellent. She was attentive, thoughtful, conversational, and hustled to take care of all of her tables without delay, while still making us feel special. Wonderful person. I always hear about the peterboro but this was my first time dining in. I loved the menu and had a hard time deciding on what I want. I ended up getting the crispy eggplant and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend especially if you like black beans because the eggplant has a black bean sauce on it. The service was great. Food was out fast. Drinks were great. Everything was clean. Over the years I've heard wonderful things about the Peterboro, and wanted to eventually give it a try. My friend wanted to try it out, so off we went. I was able to make a reservation online, because you never know if it's going to be busy or not and it's kind of a hike from Rochester Hills. We got there for an "early dinner" at 5 PM and there wasn't much of a crowd at that point so we were seated immediately. The menu isn't massive, which is fine. It's more of a fusion restaurant where the chef has curated traditional Chinese dishes with their own take on the food. The Bar area has seating and I guess they've also done the same thing with the adult beverages. While I didn't get an adult beverage, I wish I would have after I left. The decor is more of a clean modern take on chinese decor. They have some chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling and wall art as well. It wasn't overwhelming but more of a nice aesthetic. I started with the egg drop soup which was fantastic. Quite Unique but tasty none the less. I went with the chicken lo mein and my friend went with the eggplant dish for her full meal. While each dish was on average $20 with a protein, let me tell you, it was absolutely fantastic! I ate my entire portion and my friend took her leftovers home and ate the rest later that night. The portions are worth the price and everything was wonderful. They have a restaurant manager there who circulates named Marty, and he made sure we were well taken care of. He took a few minutes to check in with us to ensure that everything was as it should be. There was a couple next to us who did have some concerns about their dish (we were sitting so close I couldn't help but here) and he handled that right away and corrected whatever the problem was. This place has changed. Not all change is bad....but in this case it just might be. When I first visited this restaurant it was simply amazing. The unique twist on a Chinese inspired menu was refreshing. The cocktails were crafted to perfection. I returned on at least four occasions after that initial visit. Then The Peterboro unexpectedly closed down, no explanation...just closed. Then it reopened several months if not a year later with the same name and esthetics within the restaurant. However, noticeably different is the menu. The menu has been limited to small subset of the prior menu. The portions are drastically different which were previously average sized. For example, two small spring rolls for $10 seems ridiculous. Even the fanciest of Chinese restaurants that is over priced. I visited last night and my dining partner order the Chow Fun noddles. They came out in less than five minutes which at a fast food restaurant would be acceptable. But, immediately made us question how "fresh" was the dish. The food was lukewarm at best and okay. I had the Crispy Eggplant with black bean sauce which was previously amazing. This time, there not much crisp and a TON of mushrooms. We also shared the Mushroom dumplings which I will say were amazing in flavor. But, they could have been served at a higher temperature. The apple, strawberry crisp was really apples inside of an egg roll. As a $10 dessert it was underwhelming for what it was and the portion size. I LOVED this place before it closed down. Now, I'm not even sure how I like it anymore. I hope it will bring back some of its former Zest and will survive. As for now, I would not recommend it.....though I wouldn't completely not recommend it either. I do believe there are better options for food quality...honestly right across the parking lot if we want to be real....But for me, I do not see a repeat visit in my near future under the current manner of operation. We chose to sit at the outdoor patio which was nice out, we ordered our drinks, I ordered a Gold Fashioned, it was very good and it had great hints of mandarin orange. It was a perfect summer drink. So we went on to order food and we ordered the Crab Rangoon, Mushroom Dumplings, Pork Dumplings, Shrimp & Scallop Dumplings, & Chow Fun Noodles with a side of beef. All the food was truly amazing, the dumplings were spot on, I didn't eat the Mushroom Dumplings cause I don't like the taste of mushrooms but everything was perfect and the beef for the noodles was AMAZING! I have been here twice. Once was before Covid and I really enjoyed it. I remember the food being good and the atmosphere pretty nice. On a second visit I noticed the menu had a dedicated box for Not With Alcohol. I was interested because I don't drink and am avoiding sugar. But unfortunately they do not have bottled water, unsweet tea, or non alcoholic beer or wine. So if healthy drink options that are not limited to filtered tap water are important to you then you should look elsewhere. I got the spicy garlic noodles with tofu; they were good. Just a little bummed that adding tofu to the dish was an extra $5 considering you can buy a block of tofu at the store for $3. This was our first time eating at Peterboro ( party of three ). We made an after concert rez for 7:45 and were seated right away. We ordered mocktails and three apps to start with. The Cheeseburger eggrolls were very good and surprisingly, had a bit of a kick to them. We also had pork dumplings and crab Rangoon which were both unremarkable. Our entrees were Chef's kiss! My Orange Chicken was the best I've had anywhere and I'm always trying different Chinese places as I love Chinese food. It wasn't your typical super heavily battered up chicken with the typical super sweet and super thick and sticky orange sauce that's more like a sticky gel than a sauce. Oh no, the tender chicken was lightly breaded and the sauce was a very light, kind of brothy in texture, almost runny, lighly sweet, essence of orange sauce. I'm telling you, that orange sauce was the star on my plate! Both of my friend's ordered Sesame chicken and said the same things as me about their chicken and sauce. We were all loving our entrees. They do not serve up large portions. Even with the apps we shared, I managed to consume all of my chicken and half of the white sticky rice it came with. Also, their menu is very limited, offering only eight entrees. Not your typical Chinese restaurant. No seafood entrees. However, I would recommend and it's close to Masonic Temple which was the venue for our concert. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. read more

I was really looking forward to this place and loved that you could make reservations online. We arrived and were seated quickly because of this and the space is super cute and trendy! The shrimp and scallops dumplings were decent. Nothing out of this world but it was a nice plate to share with my friend. We then waited for our actual entrees and I have no problem with restaurants that serve the meals as they are coming out of the kitchen but my friend got served her meal and I probably was waiting for around 45 minutes before I got served mine. This was at no fault to the server and she kept reassuring me that it was coming soon and even served us another plate of dumplings on the house because of how long it was taking which was very nice. Unfortunately, my friend had finished her meal by the time I was served and we were on our way to an event so I was in a bit of a time crunch at that point. The Szechuan beef that I ordered was fine. Wasn't quite sure what to expect so I let him order for us. We were able to get in and sit at the bar which is where we enjoy sitting.
