Updating my review- came with some friends and I have to say it's still such a great cocktail bar to come to. Brought a friend from out of town and he was impressed. Staff brought the drinks out quickly and checked in to make sure new drinks were ordered. The decor feels cozy but upscale and cool. We've been here many times and it's always good plus there's no shortage of options to pick from. They had a seasonal menu which was fun- drink was the bah humbug - Mezcal, Averna, Aperol, maraschino, lemon juice, egg white- had little candy cane shapes on top and looked so cute. Delicious with a hint of smoke. Also had a Dequindre cut - so refreshing and delicious- gin, fernet, lemon, ginger, raspberry, bitters, cucumber, mint and topo chico- HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Excellent drinks!!!!!!!!! Strong and tasty. The drink options are endless, as the cocktail menu is a book. Very impressive!!! They have everything you could possible think of and more. I loved my mint julep. The chocolate chip cookies are so warm and delicious. The sea salt sprinkled on top was perfection. Fantastic and helpful service! Cool vibe. Great location in Corktown. Fun music playing but it was a bit too loud for my taste and hard to talk over so I had a hard time hearing my friends. I would definitely return.

This one was a real shocker. I've come here since Sugar House opened. We were excited that it was easy to get in this particular evening. We were in for a surprise. We sat at our usual spots. We were bombarded by fruit flies pretty much the entire time we stayed. It was so rough at one point the bartender was kind enough to light a common stick to try to ward off the gnats. I had to request a drink to be remade as the mildew smell on my glass was disgusting. One word: ewwww. One bartender was on her phone throughout our visit. The final nail in the coffin for the night was the gnat that landed in my cocktail. This place is not cheap and this is not the experience we usually come for. We're going to give it one more go before declaring another watering hole.

    Belle Isle - Seasonal Cocktail

Now this is a cocktail bar! This place has a seasonal menu that's based around all local places which is such a cool concept. The amount of liquors they have to make just about any cocktail was unreal. I love a good cocktail bar and this one is now my favorite. My first cocktail I tried was the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory. The flavor was nothing like I've had before. It had yellow chartreuse in the drink and that brought the drink to another level. The next cocktail I tried was the Belle Isle. The guava purée was unmatched and a delicious drink. The other think I really appreciated was that they had a glossary in the back of the menu. So if there was a liquor or juice you didn't know, it explained it and the flavors in the back for you - genius! I cannot wait to come back try the other 7 on my list!

The Sugar House is such a cool concept. A vibey bar with tons of drinks to choose from. I loved the specialty cocktail menu named after Detroit classic cars. I tried a cocktail called "The Last Word" that was pioneered by a man who was from Detroit. It was delicious. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. A must try if you're in Detroit.

On a visit to Detroit this weekend, my dear friends decided to take me to Sugar House. They spoke about the quality and variety of the cocktails at Sugar House. I did a quick search on Yelp to see what SH was about and was pleasantly surprised and excited about my visit. It was a rainy day, so it was a great place to go with good friends. My friends did tell me we would be lucky if we got a spot because it is a popular spot. We got lucky and got a table. The vibe was cool. The music was great. The interior decorations were different, but definitely went with a speakeasy vibe. They had cocktails for all type of drinkers and non-drinkers. They had drinks for people like gin, chartreuse, rum, bourbon, and vodka. I initially picked a drink from one of theme artist drinks because it had chartreuse. I chose the Very Superstitious. It was nice and very tasty. Due to my love of chartreuse and not being able to get a lot of cocktails with chartreuse, I also picked the Champs Elysees cocktail. It was light and refreshing. I would definitely go back to Sugar House for the vibes, the drinks, and overall experience. The cocktails were priced fairly and they're over 70 options choose from. This is a must visit when visiting Detroit.

If you want well-made craft cocktails, this is your place! Over 100 cocktails on the menu, and I have never heard or had a complaint about any of them. They have a limited food menu, but I have never eaten there. It a great pre- or post-dinner stop, and I first went there while waiting for a text that my table was ready at a nearby restaurant. I highly recommend this place! It has an intimate speakeasy feel. Drinks are generally in the $10 - $16 range, but worth it! The bartending staff are true "mixologists," who can provide very knowledgeable discussions about the cocktails.

Let me start with the decor of the Sugar House. You can see from the photos from other reviewers how the place is decorated. Stuffed animal heads, exposed brick, gold ceiling tiles, wooden bar, old timey photo of someone's relative. It all melds together quite nicely to provide a warm and relaxing atmosphere to just chill, converse, think, read or what have you. The cocktails were well crafted and delicious. Plenty of options for everyone. The service was prompt, polite, friendly and made you feel welcomed. I leave out a star for food because they don't offer any. However, they do provide popcorn which is actually really good! So that helps soak the alcohol up. But I do recommend this place and I hope you enjoy it.

Everything about this establishment is magical. The atmosphere is beautiful the decorations are intriguing and fun and elegant all at the same time. The drinks are beyond compare. And the prices for them are actually very reasonable. The bartenders are experts as are the servers. Our server was beyond amazing and very very knowledgeable about the menu. We had small plates of popcorn and garlic nuts, and they were both delicious.

This is a diamond in the rough. The customer service is outstanding! Can't brag enough about it! It's a smaller bar, and it's very dark inside;the candles provide little lighting. There is a small outdoor seating area in the back as well. The walls are covered with stuffed animal heads and pictures of antique people. The music is welcoming whilst you can always hear the bartenders mixing those drinks with passion and elbow grease. Remarkably, the menu has over 101 drinks to choose from! So be prepared to take time looking that over. They currently have a summer drink list that the bartenders made. I favored the Raspberry one (I forgot the name of it). Overall, the vibe is very positive and calm with a very diverse customer base.

    Cocktails with popcorn and cashews

We stopped by on a whim at the recommendation of a friend and absolutely loved it!! Their cocktail menu is extensive with 101 classic cocktails plus an Olympic themed special cocktail menu. They also have a large selection of spirits like bourbon. The cocktail glossary in the menu was a nice touch. The inside is fairly small with a bunch of small tables along with a bar. There is an outdoor area in the back with a few tables. The cocktails themselves were delicious and unique. They don't have real food but do you have popcorn and cashews on hand. I would definitely go back!

The Sugar House has something for everyone! Ambiance gives visiting an old mansion with tons of antiques everywhere, during prohibition times. Their menu is my favorite, it's got dozens of cocktails categorized by your tastebuds. The aesthetic & presentation of the drinks is always immaculate and the bar staff is my favorite. Service literally always comes with a smile here. The menu is still QR code I believe so when you sit down, you will scan the QR code on the table to view the menu. Truly an incredible and unique place for a drink!

I was in Detroit on a trip and stumbled upon this bar. Seriously such a great bar! They had over 100 drinks to choose from, they all tasted amazing. The service was so attentive and great. The ambiance was exactly what I was looking for in a casual but ambient bar. If I ever come back to the Detroit area I would definitely swing by again.

It is not seat yourself at the outdoor tables, like we originally thought. There is a nice sized bar indoors and seating at the bar is first come first served. We ordered several of the small plate "snacks" and I can tell you that the hummus is not to be missed. It is served with (homemade?) tortilla chips that are absolutely addictive. They have lots of choices for wine, beer, and cocktails. Towards the back entrance of the property, there is a drink truck where you can also order "walkaway" food and drinks. Not entirely sure where you sit with the food/drinks you order, as most of the seating seemed reserved for full service. For a snack before dinner, we chose to get the burrata and it was so refreshing. The service was great and our bartender was super friendly! The logo with the little lamb is adorable. I bought one of their wine glasses with their logo on it too for just $10.

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.

The theme was "Yes, Chef: An exploration of culinary icons through a cocktail lens." Each drink was inspired by or dedicated to a famous culinary icon, and you can read about each one in the index. We each ordered one drink from each section. From the Opening, I chose the Diaspora Club, which was so refreshing and delicious. Then from the Principals, I chose the Chingona, which was a little bit spicy and savory but still so refreshing. To Finish, I chose the Chocolatier Cosmo, which came with a tiny house-made salted dark chocolate. I loved all three cocktails I ordered, especially the chocolatier cosmo because it was perfectly sweet and went so well with the small piece of chocolate. For food, we started off with the crispy pork belly milk bread. For my entree, I ordered the miso butter gnocchi. It was kind of on the salty side but I still really liked it. The apple sofrito added a bit of sweetness to it. For dessert, we had to get the rhubarb coffee cake, which came with strawberry ice cream. Omg one of the best desserts I've ever had!! I never thought of combining cinnamon coffee cake with rhubarb or strawberry but it's perfect, and I might have to make something like that soon. We had to continuously ask for more water. I tried the espresso no-tini ($11), a mocktail. It was good, but came in cordial glass and was essentially just a shot of chilled espresso. The setas ($14) were listed as a local wild mushroom blend with garlic and lemon. It was probably about a half cup of mushrooms, grilled, and served in a saucer. It needed balance with a soft cheese, spice, or more sweetness. My charcuterie plate didn't come out until about an hour plus after we ordered, after multiple asks. It's hard to justify the delay when it's just hard cheese and meat, they didn't have to cook, and there were few other customers. (Essentially, we forgot).
