I love a clean house. Unfortunately I am not a "I just love to clean my house" kind of girl. I'm not. Listen, we all have gifts. I am happy to keep things clean and pretty. Only that. I have other domestic talents but cleaning - deep cleaning is not one of them. I call, schedule an appointment, and the day of my appointment two ladies furiously work to clean my house so that I can love it again. I value that help, I truly do. So more truth telling - I love this house cleaning service because they don't judge me. They have deep cleaned my house several times without snarky comments or rude faces. They came and deep cleaned my house in a few hours and I happily paid them. I love that. I understand why not everyone will like this service. It is a subjective thing - like where you choose to get your hair cut. What I do not understand is a 1 star review. As hard as they have worked in my house, I just don't get it. Found these guys though yelp and hired them to do a move out cleaning and wow...still very thankful for the great job they did. I'm embarrassed to say that we had a whole lot of accumulated hair, carpet stains and food grime in our apartment that it scary to clean ourselves. Not to mention how stressed out and tired we were from packing. Needless to say we were desperate for professional help! So many things to praise them for: 1. I booked an appointment for 9am on a Saturday, and by golly, they knocked on our door with all their equipment at exactly 9 am. Talk about punctual! 2. Our kitchen still had some leftover food, burners greasy and fridge had stains. They wiped out everything till it was spotless. 3. The bathroom tiles, toilet and mirror were scrubbed so well, they were little literally sparkling. 4. The carpets were originally beige but turned gray and restored spotless and good as new. 5. Service was very friendly and courteous. 6. Price was definitely reasonable. 7. They were able to accommodate at such short notice. I contacted Martin based on the stellar reviews on yelp, it turned out they didn't live up to the reviews at all! He first sent 2 girls to clean, 3 hours later, they barely cleaned 1 bathroom. When I checked on their work, the faucets, showers, and doors were still dirty. He then sent a few other people at 5'o clock, rushed to cleaned our kitchen in an hour, the appliances were still filthy. When I pointed out all the spots, Martin admitted they were dirty and promised to send another crew on a different day to clean. I agreed. His new crew came to clean for about 3 hours, they did a better job but still had more than ten places that were dirty. When I pointed them out to Martin again, he said, "this is the best we can do, life is not perfect, you just have to deal with it." The lesson I've learned here is that if you want a cleaning crew that does a good and thorough job, Martin's team is clearly NOT the company to hire. Save your money, DO NOT hire them. If they keep going at this rate and attitude, they might as well go out of business. read more

Luckily I didn't see any of the negative reviews on here, only the positive-- so I gave Martin a phone call on a Saturday and booked an appointment to clean my place on Monday at 9am. Martin and his two maids showed up promptly at 9am. He was very business oriented and spoke good English, but with a heavy accent. I told him exactly what I wanted done and like we agreed on the phone, no time limit, just $65 to clean my 2bedroom/2bath. He looked around, gave them instructions and took off, leaving the girls to do their job. I was a little hesitant to leave them alone for the first time, so I relaxed in my living room, while the girls did all the work. They worked hard the entire time and my place has never looked better! It took them about 2 1/2 hours to clean. Once they were done, I paid them a their fee + a $15 tip for their thorough work; which I think is standard, if they do an above average job. After they left, Martin called to double check to make sure, everything was good on my end, that I was happy with their work, and if I wanted to schedule another cleaning date. I think this company is great and will most certainly use them again when I think my place is due for another "deep" cleaning. read more

While reading most of the previous reviews, I took note of the fact that for the most part, the four and five star reviews are from folks who used Martin's service one time for either a one-time or initial cleaning. Unlike those reviews, I used Martin from Dec 2012 - July 2013, and he did ask me after the first clean to post a review. Since I am a busy person, I never got round to it, until now. That said - I had never used a cleaning service in the past as I felt that i should be able to clean my one-bedroom apartment by myself and a cleaning service seemed a luxury, but with my schedule it was impossible to stay on top of the clutter and mess. So I started researching, and in the end hired Martin based on his four-star average review here on Yelp (as it turns out he does no advertising and relies solely on reviews on Yelp to bring in business). He charged $75 for a first time clean, which sounded reasonable (actually it was hella cheap compared to other services). I asked for his service to be done by 4:00 PM (when I get off work) and unfortunately they were still working when I got home so I had to bail for awhile (kind of an inconvenience) but he assured me it was just because of "traffic" (his English isn't the best). They did a good job from what I could see, there were some spots left and it wasn't perfect, but better than I could do. so I agreed to have them come by every other week on Wednesdays for $60. Again asking that they come in sometime after 7:30 am and be done before 4:00. Unfortunately, that didn't happen very often. Frequently, they would have just arrived at my place when I came home from work (which meant I would have to leave to allow them to work, since I have a small pad) or (more frequently) never showed up at all. I would call and get the voice mail (usually full) or leave a text and he would say "we'll be there the next day" or "traffic was bad". The girls were very nice, but as my sister pointed out, they missed a lot of spots. The tub was always clean, which I liked, but there were things like hair on the walls, etc that were still there after they left. I started growing more frustrated with him not showing up and after the last time, when (again) I left two text messages after finding as usual his voicemail was full and didn't get a response, I left a final text stating "your services are no longer required". I had basically just had it - obviously in retrospect he had some bigger jobs that were going to pay more than my little $60.00 cleaning so he couldn't be bothered. In addition, I had recommended Martin to my good friend who was looking for a service and she used them (her review also on Yelp). She speaks Spanish, I don't, so I was unaware of how Martin addressed/treated his staff and even his female customers - but after hearing this, it REALLY did not sit well with me - so the last time he didn't show up or bother to even call was pretty much the last straw. My bottom line: They do an OK job of cleaning...sometimes...they're cheap (on a one-time basis - my new cleaning service is charging me the same as he did for the bi-weekly - will be posting a Yelp review on them in the next month), but Martin's reliability, dependability and way he treats his employees leaves a LOT to be desired. martin called my desk at 3:45, and said he called my boss's cell at 2:30 to inform him he would be late, but there was no answer. I asked him why he didnt just call my desk then, because i was at my desk, and he had no response for that. He said that he could come at 4:30, an hour and a half after scheduled time. My boss said he had found someone else, and he had to be back at the office at 4pm, so we no longer needed Martin, and I told him thanks anyway. My boss walks in at 4pm and tells me that his person couldnt make it as well. I asked him if he would like me to call martin back and see if martin would still clean the apt. my boss told me "if you think it would help" -- i called martin no more than 10 minutes after our conversation where he told me he could arrive at 4:30, and he claimed to have already booked another appointment in that 10 minutes, and that he could no longer do it that day. he apologized, but then instructed me to call someone else. i explained that since he guaranteed a 3pm appt, i failed to call anyone else because im not in the business of taking up people's appointment spots and not showing. he started feeding me all this BS about how he could do it at 5 but it would take two and a half hours to do two bathrooms and a kitchen and one of his staff had a kid and they had to go pick him up and blah blah blah i dont care - I kindly said thank you, and hung up on him in the middle of his excuses. I just got my boyfriend's 1 bedroom 1 bath in Burlingame cleaned by Expert Martin Martha Maids. I found them on yelp because they were highly rated and had the most reasonable prices. I made the appointment the day before the cleaning for the following day. They were very timely. I called to confirm on the day of the cleaning as well. Martin came with the 2 very nice girls and then he left while they cleaned. My boyfriend has been living here for the past 1.5 years, and honestly, has not dusted the place in a VERY long time. He has never cleaned the oven either, it was bad. They did a wonderful job in the kitchen. The oven is pristine, so is the microwave. The price he quoted me was $65 for a 2 hour cleaning, but with the nasty oven he added $15. The bathroom is also amazing. The bathtub was very thoroughly cleaned, it was pretty bad before they got here. The whole place is pretty devoid of dust now. I was very happy with the pricing (had compared them to 3 other home cleaning services in the area) as well as the excellent job. There were a few corners on the floor that were still dusty that I didn't notice until after they left, but not too bothersome. Highly recommended. read more

I had these guys do a move-out clean for me yesterday. I wish I had a better experience, but I was pretty disappointed in the service. I don't mind that they showed up 40 minutes late (traffic), that one of the three cleaners was about 10 years old, or that there were some un-vacuumed bits on the rug when they were finished. What I found really bothersome (and confusing...) is why they took it upon themselves to throw away several of my possessions without being instructed to do so. In fact, I specifically instructed them to "leave everything where it is." Thankfully there were only a couple of things left in my apartment when they came (a few unused hand soaps, a kitchen floor mat (part of a set that matches oven mitts and hand towels), a few unused trash bags / cleaning products that I was planning to use to do one final sweep of the apartment. Welp, I'll never see these things again thanks to Martin/Martha. When I called to inquire about the soap and floor mat, Martin did not offer a simple apology or offer to replace the items (as he really should have done) - instead he argued that this is standard procedure. (Actually, he also argued that he didn't "throw away" the items; he left them in a white trash bag in the building's lobby next to the building's trash can. Helpful!!!) So if you want to use a company whose standard procedure is to throw away your things, regardless of whether they've been instructed not to, and who will not fess up to their wrongdoings / offer to make amends, go with these guys! And well, let's say I had to check all the work twice & do a little of it by myself, which is fine. But having to go around and have them re-do their cleaning was a bit annoying. This was the first time I had ever used a cleaning service for my apartment. I don't know why the heck I waited so long. :). Martin and his cleaning team did a great job. I have a 1 bedroom apartment and I needed a real good deep cleaning. Bathroom, tub, toilet, tiles, sink, counter, tiles, floor, windows, kitchen, cabinets, oven, fridge, microwave, dusting, cobwebs, windows, bedroom. Vacuum... Etc. Martin came at the beginning, asked what I needed and explained what they usually clean. It was exactly what I needed. Once we were on the same page, he brought his staff (3 ladies) and they got straight to work. Took about an hour and a half. Almost 2 hours but it looked great. Then Martin came back just as they were finishing up. He did a thorough check of the job his staff did and spot checked a few spots. Martin and his team came on a Saturday morning to do a move-in clean for our new home. They were punctual, friendly and efficient. They did a good job--windows, kitchen, bathrooms, everything. And all for a good price. The wood floors were done last, and I think that was the one area that could have been more detailed or done better. I used Martin and his team for move out clean on my one bed room apartment. He showed up about 30 min late. They did a good job cleaning especially the oven. But his staff missed few spots where Martin already pointed out in the beginning but he quickly cleaned it at the end. Martin is outgoing and easy to work with. He seem get right away what needs to be done and delegates them to the staff. His staff is hard working and friendly but seems to be less experienced/detailed since I noticed things like dirty smears where they wiped on the floor. Overall I'm glad I hired Martin. I called Martin on the suggestion of my former apartment manager in Belmont (her review is below as Bren R). She said he was the BEST, and I know what pride she always had in having apartments spotless at move-in :) so I trusted the review. My apartment looks wonderful, and the girls were very quick, yet through. I am pleased with the work that they did, and with the price. Martin's English is very good, but heavily accented; one of the girls spoke English, and they were patient with me practicing Spanish with them. Both Maria and Tina were very considerate, and asked as they cleaned, and I worked, if it was ok to vacuum, if I wanted my desk dusted, and when Maria found my tea in the microwave, she brought it to me :) I will definitely use Martin again. Would have been 5 stars for the job they did - except our landlord wanted us to wash all the venetian blinds too (we were moving out). Called them back, got voicemail - I thanked them for what they'd done & said it was great, we just needed the blinds cleaned. (No I didn't say or expect they'd do it for free either, I assumed the 2nd visit would be another charge.) So I have lived in San Carlos for 3 years and used their cleaning services the whole 3 years and now im moving to San Jose and wish they could go that far. Martin and his staff are simply rock stars! They work so hard and have never seen a cleaning job I did not like. They were always on time if not early. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the peninsula. Be nice and patient people! They have a lot of clients and are very busy. If you are flexible with your time they are spot on. They do the jobs that most of us hate or don't have time to do. Have been using Martin Martha Maids for the past few months and they have been doing an OK job. His rates are reasonable. Martin usually sends his employees and each one varies, which is understandable, since each person's cleanliness-level varies. Sometimes i have had to ask them to touch/up some areas, remind places that were not cleaned, etc. Today Martin himself came with 2 girls and all of them did an exceptional job! If I could give this guy NO star I would do that. We tried his service and liked what the crew did so we set it up to have them clean our place every other week. Here is our experience: EVERY TIME he was due to bring a crew WE HAD TO CALL HIM and remind him to show up. EVERY TIME we called him he had to get our address AGAIN. HE NEVER dropped his crew off on time. HE SELECTIVELY ANSWERS HIS PHONE and HIS VOICE MAIL IS FULL. My opinion is that this guy cannot run a business very efficiently and is mostly unable to keep a schedule of clients and times to arrive. Today I called him after my wife called a number of times to see if he was actually bringing a crew and was told we weren't on his schedule. I FIRED HIM. Martin tries to talk a good game, but neither he or his staff has any concept of what it is to be professional. Martin is also extremely rude. I can clean my apartment WELL in about 1.5 hrs., and I do it frequently. I also hate clutter, so the furniture/decor is pretty minimal. This being said, due to my schedule and, frankly, exhaustion after a kitchen remodel a few months ago, I hired Martin's service to clean my 1 bedroom apt. to remove post-construction dust. Keep in mind that the apartment had already been cleaned a few days before, so this was a second go-around. My friend had referred them, so after a brief conversation in Spanish (since his English is not the best and I am bilingual), I booked them. The only thing I asked them to do was dust, vacuum, and wipe down the bathroom. No appliances, heavy cleaning or scrubbing...just dust removal. Because of the construction, all the counters/shelves throughout the apartment were cleared. I was assured that this would not be a problem in 1.5 hrs. I called a few days before to confirm. No answer or responses. I finally got a hold of him the morning of the appointment, and he yelled at me and told me to hurry up and tell him whatever I needed to tell him. This wasn't a good sign, but I didn't have time to find someone else. Two hours later than the appointed time they were supposed to arrive they showed up. I left in the middle of the clean to run an errand, and when I returned they claimed that they were almost done. I walked over to the living area only to find dust everywhere. After showing them the dust on my fingers, they frantically started to clean. Given that this is what they were hired to do, I'm not sure what exactly they had been doing while I was gone. Martin showed up after calling the women several times telling them to hurry up. I walked into the bedroom to grab my purse, and he began whistling at me like a dog to get my attention. He then informed me that if I wanted them to do more work, I would have to pay them more. When I informed him that I expected the obvious dust to be removed based on our original hiring agreement, he got a little testy. I went on to remind him that he had been referred to me by a friend, and that she was waiting to hear how I liked the service. He then downshifted his attitude a bit, and started to be a little chatty. By then I just wrote out a check, gave the women a small tip (hey, they DID clean the bathroom well), and told them to have a nice day. They didn't dump the trash because the dumpster is in an enclosed area. When I took it down, I found the remains of their lunch...which was consumed while they were supposed to be cleaning my apartment. Yup. Real pros. read more

I was like, damn these chicks don't mess around....Anyway Martin(pronounced Marteeeeen) was great and even had his women show up 30 minutes early! This guy is on the top of his game, he's got these chicks cleaning their freaking brains out! My house has never been so clean I will definitely have them back next month. The list goes on and on, they cleaned every nook and cranny of this huge house, like cleaner droids from "The Fifth Element". I have used Martin for over 5 years. Throughout the years I found items missing, but nothing worth complaining about (eyeliner, tweezers, etc). Last month, I placed my diamond necklace by my shower...I knew it was there that morning and had remembered to make sure to wear it, knowing the cleaners were coming...I forgot. After work, I came straight home, to find that it was missing. I right away notified Martin, who then told me which of the girls serviced my house. I asked who cleaned that bathroom and he said Livia and gave me her info, along with Zora. He said all of his workers are referrals from friends and family, and Livia has been employed for 6 months, and has serviced my house 3 times. After talking to Livia, she said she never saw it, when I know for a fact where it was left. That night I opened a police report to have on file. Since I've been doing business with Martin for so long, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, and requested that Livia not return, he agreed and never showed up since. Tonight (after a month!), Martin drops off our house key and says it's better off!! We have been loyal customers, paying for every other week services, and this is how he treats us?!! Unbelievable. This necklace was very expensive, but more so, meaningful. It was my 10 yr anniversary necklace. I ABSOLUTELY would never recommend such an unethical business to your home. I and got off work early to come let him in my house for an estimate but - no show, no call, no hire. I finally called him at 20 minutes past the hour and the guy appeared stoned or drunk or something. He kept insisting my house was on a different street. "No it's on ___ street" he says, arguing with me. And he kept trying to tell me my name was something it's not. Really? Must be nice to have that much business. Must give these folks 5 stars! I am always hesitant to leave people in my house unsupervised, but Martin & his ladies were able to work around me as I worked in the dining room. They were ON TIME, to the second. Within a minute, the two ladies started with the bathrooms and the kitchen, while Martin made friends with us. He's so friendly! They are 1.5 hours into cleaning, but the woman cleaning the kitchen has done everything from cleaning the stove top, replacing the foil lining in the stove, wiped down the cabinets and appliances, and got into the nooks and crevices. Did I mention they're even vacuuming the cat fur off my furniture??? :-D The other woman in the bathrooms is scrubbing the grout. Amazing. I don't think my house was ever this clean.... even upon moving in! Well worth the $65 Martin quoted me, and I will not hesitate to call them again. read more
