BEWARE If you have storm damage and want a company that won't fight for you but will put everything they have into fighting AGAINST you... well then this is the company. I thought because they were local and I knew the owner they would be a fair company... boy was I wrong. I hired them because my window screens were badly torn, my trim on house was all knicked up due to hail. Some shingles also blew off the roof. I didn't even know if my roof was damaged at the time. They said they would handle everything and even deal with insurance so I wouldn't have to. The deal was they do all the work and I sign all the checks over to them. It was simple...so I thought. I didn't want nor had the time to be dealing with all this. Their contract says they never ask for money from homeowner that it all comes from insurance, yet they billed me for MORE than insurance even gave and that's even after they refused to fix things that were damaged and covered because it wouldn't be "profitable for them". So left me with no $ to repair those items they skipped out of doing. wound up paying over $31,000 and they still wanted approz $8000 more and my screens, deck and house trim were still unrepaired..they wanted the $ allotted for work they didn't do! Provided a grossly inflated bill (no sworn statements)that was blatantly wrong and they refused to fix....until the morning of court that is (you read that right). Not only were they shady, but refused to providing me with the required notarized sworn statements when we requested. Even admitted in arbitration that they do not give till AFTER the bill is paid. BY law they ARE MANDATED to provide yet wouldn't AND yet still sued us. Of course, why wouldn't they because if you read their contract and very fine print on the back, their warranty is VOID if they take you to court.... so it's only in their best interest to bring you there. They don't even try to fix their mistakes-just intimidate and demand full payment. They even sent someone to my home who harassed and tried to intimidate me. They were so unprofessional with my insurance rep. We won in arbitration (for the most part) but still they refused the ruling and pushed to court. They didn't even show or give me a chance to cross examine them since I obliterated them in arbitration neither my contractor nor the manager they sent to collect a wrong bill even showed up to testify... Hmmm. Waiting on a ruling from the judge as he took it on advisement but don't understand how he can even consider ruling for them under the circumstances. Stay away from this company at all costs is my advice. If you don't question them it should go fine, but if you call them out on mistakes... watch out! read more

They repaired our roof and installed gutter guards. First, on little items, they over-promised and underdelivered. Overall they did a good job with the roof. Second, they installed both in October which doesn't give time/temperature for the roof to settle/cure. As such the granules kept shedding all winter and sticking in our mesh gutter guards (causing them to be inefficient). They came out to help correct a couple of times, but that was only after close to 30-50 contacts. I've learned now that they don't really respond for smaller items/jobs/adjustments. Since they got paid, I've had to attempt to contact them at least 10 times. There are so many roofing companies, I'd suggest trying a different one. read more

We signed a contract with this company to replace the gutters at one of our Park District facilities. The contract stated the work was to start on May 10, 2023, and be completed by May 30, 2023. It is now December 2023, six months later, and the job has still not been completed. To say we have been disappointed in this company would be an understatement. Everything has led to a complete nightmare of a job: their lack of professionalism, poor quality workmanship, and terrible customer service. We worked with a salesman Carl who, after ordering the custom gutters we needed for the business, came back and said the fabricator made mistakes and they were not what we ordered. He asked if we would accept an inferior product which was the wrong color. He suggested painting them. We told him no; we want what we ordered and paid for. They reordered the custom gutters, which then took several additional weeks. After a month they came out to start the job and worked for two days. They left after taking down downspouts and not replacing them. The problems became worse. We contacted the salesman to find out when the crew would return. He said they were scheduled to come out in the next couple of days, but they didn't come out for weeks. Over the last six months, when they did show up, they had four different crews who worked on the job. No salesman or project manager was ever there to check on the work being done. After months of frustration from not getting anything done, calls were made to the owner, Mike Coley, who never returned any calls. After weeks of not hearing from anyone, a project manager, Allen, then called and said he was on the job and would take care of it. He guaranteed us that the job would be completed by November 13, 2023. Like in May and the rest of the months, the completion date came and went, and the job is still not done. Weeks went by, a crew came out for a day, and then didn't show up for two more weeks. The last week of November, salesman Carl and the quality control manager, Alex, came out and said they'd put together a plan and get back to us in the next day or so. Several weeks have gone by and we have not heard anything from them. In the beginning we did tell this company that the Park District had seven buildings we'd like to have them work on in the next few years, and if they did a good job this time, we would continue to hire them for other jobs. Obviously, after six months of waiting for them to complete this job, we would not hire them again. We cannot recommend Expert Roofing to anyone. It's been a total nightmare. Our attorney is now involved. We have contacted the Better Business Bureau as well as the Attorney General of the Fraud Division. The job is not complete, and we don't know when or if it ever will be. This is a heads-up for anyone looking to do business with this company. Buyer beware. Let me briefly summarize by saying I am so happy with the process and the work done on my house. Expert Roofing was great. First some background: I've had plenty of business cards stuck in my door with notes saying I had storm damage and they would be glad to fix it. I tried it once and my insurer balked at it. I had to make all the calls to the insurer and spent a lot of time trying to speak and understand insurance language. When I tried contacting the company after the initial rejection, I got no responses. So, I was not interested when Expert Roofing kept dropping cards off at my door. Then Brad caught me outside one day and assured me that the home suffered damage from a recent storm and he would do all of the work with the insurance company -- I would not have to make any calls -- and that my only cost would be the deductible. He lived up to both of those promises. Initially, the insurer agreed to replace the siding, but not the roof. Brad didn't settle for that and got the insurer to come out again. The roof was then approved. Different crews showed up for the roof and siding. Both were some of the hardest workers I have ever seen. There were a few minor snags -- but they were worked out quickly and to my satisfaction -- so I don't need to go into detail. When all of the work was done, I didn't like the way some of the trim was done around a bay window. They came back out and fixed it to my satisfaction. The house looks great. A precaution (maybe not necessary): Maintain your financial leverage. They want you to have the insurance company send the money directly to them. Since I signed the contract in the middle of winter and the work was not going to be done until late spring, I did not do that -- I had the insurance company send me the checks. I could then pay Expert Roofing using a timetable set up in the contract. They did not get the final check until I was satisfied with everything. Maybe I could have had the insurance checks sent to them and would not have had any problems, but I just felt better knowing I had the leverage to withhold payment if I didn't like something. read more

Terrible company to hire. They screwed up the siding job and told me they will fix it. Haven't heard from them and the roofing job had me concerned cause they texted me and told me the date had to be moved up. I told them the date wasn't going to work because I have a dog that needs to be boarded and they were going to charge me a cancellation for the appointment I had for him. When I got home between routes I work for they were here tearing the roof off. I called them but couldn't get through. I was pissed. I grabbed the dog and lucky for me they had a opening that morning. They are not professional and trustworthy. I do not recommend this company to anyone. I want to keep this review as concise and to the point as possible, in hopes that others will seriously consider other options before hiring Expert Roofing. I encourage you to research this company, click show more reviews on Yelp, and read about them on the internet. Unfortunately, I discovered that many of the negative reviews out there on the BBB, Yelp, Angie's list, etc. were the same negative complaints that we had experienced. When things go south when doing business with this company, you will be at an extreme disadvantage due to the way their contract is written. If you do decide to risk it and do business with this company, do not sign any legally binding contracts, or do send them your own terms and conditions. Their first contract is a means for them to take money from you for doing zero work if you do not give them the job and award to the lower bids which I thankfully refused to sign. Their second contract is an open checkbook into your pocket once the job has started and this is how they extorted money from us. The second contract they have you sign has verbiage written in it that states additional charges not listed in the contract can be added without your verbal or written consent. We were told all change orders would be sent officially, but this never happened. Charges that Expert Roofing told us would be covered by insurance were not. As such we experienced surprise charges that were passed along to us at the end such as an $800 tarping fee, permitting fees, and a $3,500 dollar profit adder. We awarded Expert Roofing an insurance job at our farm. It was a larger claim than most residential claims due to the number of buildings on site. Expert Roofing did not maintain any semblance of a project budget that wasn't piecemeal over text messages or scribbled on napkins. They were completely unprofessional in that regard, which resulted in the biggest problem that we experienced when working with them. When we audited the budget ourselves towards the end of the project, we discovered a major problem. Our project ended up going over budget by $15,604.00, which they sprung on us at the end of the job as a surprise invoice. Being that we are not wealthy people, we couldn't pay them right away so they threatened to sue us. They were kind enough to offer financing at 14 percent which is a total usury! We also had in writing on several items that they weren't going to charge us for some items, but then they decided to reverse that in the end to fluff up the final bill. Understand what you are getting when you hire Expert Roofing. This is a general contractor, and they bid out various aspects of your project to the lowest bid workers. Many of the workers that showed up on our property couldn't speak a lick of English and as such it was difficult to communicate project specifics with the workers. This caused many delays. For instance with the gutters, they had to come back out three times to fix sloping issues that sloped away from the downspouts. Overall, our project took ten months for Expert Roofing to complete. It was started in May of 2019 and didn't wrap up until March of 2020. They left our yard a total mess, and claimed we made it after their workers had left. They ordered the wrong windows for our bathrooms where the permit required tempered glass. The Expert Roofing rep had no clue about that requirement. Expert had the gall to charge us for this permit, even though they clearly didn't read it. The county inspector that came out to inspect the windows "looked the other way" for us on that oversight to cover for their mishap. Expert Roofing would not provide bond information on the job when we requested it after all the dust had settled. They may be breaking the law in that regard. I question the legitimacy of their bond, and it too should be taken with a grain of salt. We will be submitting a claim to the BBB and filing a complaint against their Illinois state license which you can find at the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation website. For what should have been a slam dunk insurance job for Expert Roofing, they caused us great hardship, especially at a time where the economy is in a slump due to the coronavirus. read more

We were referred to this company and had an excellent experience at the beginning. They worked with our insurance and made the process easy. Then, 18 months after job was complete, we received a bill for 50% more than our original quote. When I contacted Expert Roofing, I was treated like an idiot and told I need to take it up with my insurance company. My insurance covered everything they agreed to. I checked everything including the contract I signed with Expert roofing. It states a price plus supplements. They are asking for thousands more than that number and say that prices went up since I signed the contract. I'm sure they have, but I did not agree to any price increase. Several years ago a freak storm came through Wheaton and caused a lot of roof and siding damage in our neighborhood. Much of the roof damage was not visible, unless you really knew what you were looking for. Expert Roofing was fabulous for us. They inspected everything and made sure we got the full compensation from our insurance company. Carl helped us with selecting high quality products and listened very carefully to every single concern I had. they started exactly when they said they would and they came consistently until the job was done which required several different kinds of crews and multiple weeks. They replaced our siding and gutters and soffit and facia as well as the roof and skylights. This is a complicated house with multiple gables and dormers and bay windows which has been added onto three times over fifty years of us living in it. One example of how they went above and beyond was to change some of the exterior trim so it was consistent in the newer parts of the house with the wide trim of the original house. This was not difficult but required a lot of extra time. The workmen were very knowledgeable. and the foreman, Carl, was with us every step of the way. they suggested some creative solutions to some of the quirky ins and outs of this house. Even a couple of years later Carl oversaw a minor issue and made sure we were satisfied. Our hundred-year- old house is better than new! One more thing. I have lost track of how many of our immediate neighbors used Expert Roofing to replace their roofs or siding that same summer, but it was at least five. we were all satisfied! read more

We got a new mansard roof from them 3 years ago this month after getting a patch the year before from a different company. I was worried their warranty was only 5 years but went with them since quote was 2K less than competition. Don't make my mistake!! We have had 3 leaks in 3 years - the first within 6 months. Called our GC who worked with them (Eric on their mailings) who gave us another number to call. It took them a few weeks to repair that one. We discovered the last two in late January this year - someone came out in February and said they couldn't do anything because of the cold. These guys are a fraud. They are storm chasers and are just looking to turn a quick buck. They promised a new roof in 8 weeks and it was 20 before it happened, then it leaked 3 days later and I had damage on the inside, they forgot to re attach my gutters on one side of the house, they sent a guy with a head lamp to paint my fascia after it was dark (looked like a spotted leopard the next morning) and installed the wrong size skylight that I had to wait 8 months for them to address. Then the billing was wrong...3 times...which just caused a bunch of back and forth. If these guys show up, shut the door on them and call a priest because you must be cursed. read more

This company is the exact reason why roofing contractors get a bad name. Worst company to work with. Took close to a year and a half to get a roof. They billed the insurance company for work they did not do. They billed for new roof vents but I found out they used the old ones just spray painted them brown. Village was sending me letters that the roofer did not order final inspection before the shingles went down. They hired a sub to do drywall work in my garage and it looks like a 4 year old did the work. They operate under different names and or have subs do the work. Super shady company. When I tried to hold money back so they would finish the work they sent a letter from their attorney saying they would file suit if I don't pay my deductible. I now have to hire more contractors to finish the work and Expert Roofing took all the insurance money. While tearing off the roof they tore or put wholes in 22 of my screens and Drew Tims said that he would compensate or replace 11 of the screens. That never happened after he blew me off and started dodging my phone calls. Drew Tims also owns a company named Legacy but represents Expert Roofing with his girlfriend Samantha Andre knocks on your door as a storm chaser to solicit business. They billed my insurance close to $21K for a roof I could have done for $11K-$12K tops! My State Farm agent said that won't do business with them anymore. If you are considering using this company please make sure you do your research and take your time to read over their contract. It states that, "Homeowner herby authorizes payments made by the insurance company to the homeowner for services performed in this agreement to be made payable jointly with Expert Roofing Inc." After negotiating the initial contract with my insurance company and a check being issued, I signed their contract. After doing so, the contractor changed all of the measurements when submitting for supplementals which increased the square footage and also the amount of money he was asking them to add on to the check, which would all go to the company. My insurance company y also red flagged numerous other expenses they asked for and denied the supplementals. Expert Roofing never submitted the additional information my insurance company asked for to verify the additional money he requested but instead tried to hurry up and schedule to job before any more red flags were raised, even though for the 3 weeks prior they had refused to even put me on the schedule and told me I "was in the queue". When I confronted him about not complying with the requests he stated, "The follow up with all state is very minimal and standard procedure. Nothing that would delay your project. What are the other things?" I did not feel Expert Roofing had my best interest in mind when pursuing so much money for a job that was quoted almost $10,000 less from another company and asked them to cancel my contract. They refused to do so without keeping 20%. When I spoke with the office on the phone I specifically stated that she was not to cancel the contract and keep 20% but to take me off the schedule until things got straightened out. Today, I get a letter in the mail stating that, "cancellation is to be done in writing" and that "they have decided to cancel my contract and keep 20%" of the $15,000+ the insurance company originally agreed to pay. read more

I had a gutter that was coming off my roof and needed to be reattached. A man named Juan came out to review the issue. First of all, he came a day early, unannounced and simply rang my bell. I took him to the back of the house to show him what was needed. He climbed on the roof and started banging with a hammer. Fifteen minutes later he rang the doorbell again and instead of giving me an estimate, he showed me pictures of other things that supposedly need to be fixed. He said he fixed them-without my permission-(I have no way to tell if he did or not), and then told me I owed him $300.00. He said he would take $250.00. I reluctantly paid him. He also told me the flashing around my skylights needed to be replaced and he could do it for the low, low price of $450.00 per skylight-a total of $2,250.00. I told him no thanks and he left. I highly recommend you find someone who cares about you as a customer instead of just the money you'll generate for them. I don't plan to hire these guys again. read more

Beware of this company! I don't know where to begin! The list is long! They do not communicate and when they do it is unprofessional and cocky! For siding and gutters it took 7 days over a 2 week period because 3 of those days they sent one guy to do all the work. They are trying to get an additional$17,000 over initial contract from me or my insurance company for work that was never brought to my attention and work my insurance company denied! They never coNtacted me after job was done. I had to reach out over a period of several months before finally getting through to them only to find out they were refusing to final invoice me until they got a final scope from my insurance company because they're trying to scam more money! The roofers came at 6am,they worked very hard. I cooked out on the grill for them, they were very happy,after a 30min. lunch break they went back up on the roof. They were done by 3:30 pm. I looked all around the house,no shingles, nails or packaging left behind,they cleaned up after themselves. A job well done. I recommend them to three of my neighbors who also were happy. Actual work by subcontractor was good and they were conscious of work. Expert roofing did a poor job planning materials, purchasing materials, assisting subcontractor questions, and final invoicing was certainly not done professionally. Sales Manager added unexpected labor cost without any discussion with the home owner as thou contract is only respected if it benefits Expert roofing. This was months after homeowner had asked for final invoice. This business needs to be aware that contracts protect both parties and the agreement should be respected. read more
