5-Star Review After…read morea very frustrating series of framing failures at Mitre & Bevel in Cathedral City, Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center in Palm Desert restored my faith in professional picture framing. I am a professional artist preparing work for an upcoming exhibition on a tight deadline. Mitre & Bevel had repeatedly cut rabbet openings too small for my stretched canvases--three separate times--blamed the artwork instead of their poor workmanship, and refused to properly stand behind their work. I was left with only a few days to find a solution before my exhibition delivery deadline. I brought my painting and some older frame pieces to Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center and explained the situation and the urgency. The difference was immediate. The owner treated me professionally, respectfully, and knowledgeably. She understood the issue instantly, measured the canvas properly, allowed correct clearance in the rabbet (as any competent framer should), and even cut down and reworked the existing frame pieces I brought in to create a proper fit. This was done as a rush job, and the frame opening was cut perfectly--the canvas dropped in cleanly, sat flat, and required no shaving, forcing, or compromise. No excuses. No blame-shifting. Just correct craftsmanship. My painting was framed immediately and correctly, and delivered in time for my exhibition without stress or drama--confirming that the canvas had never been the problem. If you are a professional artist, collector, or anyone who values their artwork, this is the frame shop you want. Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center clearly understands proper museum framing standards, takes pride in their work, and treats customers with professionalism and respect. After dealing with poor workmanship and poor customer service at Mitre & Bevel, this shop was a breath of fresh air. Today I was in the Uptown Design District hunting for something, ANYTHING, to refresh the décor inside my tired 2010 style guest room. And was elated to find a contemporary California art gallery actually offering unique original sculptures and decorative wall art. I have very particular tastes and need to see contemporary paintings in person to know if the style of artwork is going to work or not. I prefer abstract expressionism over figurative art. But as long as it's honest and beautiful that is really what matters most. At least that is what my interior designer friend says. Thankfully the artist, Peri G., is also the art gallery owner. I found out she can do custom work and can even locally deliver and install her art. Which is fine by me. Last time I hung a piece of art my husbands' mother threw her back out on the ladder. I had to wait two whole weeks before she could get back up there to finish the job! (I'm not being cruel, she insisted, LOL). Anyway, I am very pleased with Peri G. and her helpful staff. And am looking forward to working with her. Perhaps in my beloved patio sculpture garden too. Everything about this gallery seems quick and easy.
