Before starting my review, I'd like to cover "What to do when you're eventually trapped inside…read moreHyperspace Storage". Not only do you need your assigned code to enter the gated area, but you'll also need it to exit the gated area. There were a few days we stopped in and couldn't get into the units because the gate wouldn't work (and no one was on site), but my last day as a customer did the gates not let me out and is the reason I won't be returning. Your first thought is going to be to call the Emergency Number (888-403-6310) posted near the gates. It's worth a shot, but after calling 5 times and leaving at least 3 messages with my name, location, and number between 3:44 pm and 3:54 PM, I got the impression that there wasn't really anyone monitoring that number. You can try the normal office number thinking maybe it'll forward somewhere, but it doesn't. Next, you'll want to call the Holliston Police Department, because honestly, I'm not sure what else you should do if you're trapped insides someone's business. Our HPD is amazing, but expectedly wasn't trained on fixing broken storage unit gates. They tried their own emergency codes, but all of them yielded the same result (accepted, but gate doesn't move). They also attempted to open the "inbound" gate to see if we could escape there, but that gate wasn't working either. What they were very helpful with, was getting me in touch with a manager of the property. They asked me a few questions and walked me through a few things, but nothing worked. The maintenance person for the property who could open the gate lived at least two hours away in New Hampshire. She explained my only way out was cutting through the chains that held together the entry doors they had for plowing. After escaping, and taking everything we had stored there back home, we submitted our notice that we'd be moving out permanently (obviously!). It's been five weeks since then and the only message I've received from them is a generic reply to make sure my unit was empty. In five weeks no one could be bothered to email, call, or write a letter that they were sorry it happened or that they were taking steps to ensure a safe way for people to get out. God forbid there was ever a fire. So, if after reading all this you still plan on becoming a customer, please remember to carry some bolt cutters with you. --- And on to my review... I was a customer at Hyperspace for three years, and each year had gotten progressively worse. The first year we stopped in and the wonderfully helpful woman behind the counter showed us a few different size units. They were fine, a little dirty inside, and the place was overall worn down, but it's an outdoor storage unit, I wasn't expecting a hotel room. Once or twice during our first year at Hyperspace we couldn't get through the entry gate. Sometimes there would be someone on-site to help us in, and sometimes we just left and came back during the work week. The second year was a little worse with the original woman no longer being employed and replaced by a few different people I met along the way who weren't quite as customer service oriented. Again, it's a storage unit I need to get to maybe three or four times a year, not a big deal. Only once, if I recall correctly, during year two did we have any issues getting through the gates. Although it caused a bit of a backup on to the road the enters the storage units, they eventually got the gates opened and let everyone through. The third year came with a fresh new coat of paint on everything and things generally looking nicer and cleaner than they had in the past couple of years. When we moved to our new unit, however, we found it had several wooden pallets left behind from the previous tenant that we had to move out first. I'm sure I could have complained to the front desk and either had them removed or be given another unit, but I was in a bit of a rush and didn't really want to wait for more paperwork to be done. When we got stuck inside the gated area months later, as outlined above, the pallets were still leaning up against the fence we put them on when we moved in.
