We hired Gallos Moving & Storage company for a recent local move. Following the walkthrough we were initially quoted for 5 hours. We did a lot of prep and ended up moving most of our clothes and smaller items ourselves throughout the week. The actual move was 2.5 hours. We ended up being billed for 4 hours. We reached out to the company to get the cost adjusted for the actual moving time, immediately following the move and was then told about this 4-hour minimum. This was not included in the quote or in the emails we exchanged prior to the move. This is completely unacceptable. When I contacted the bank to dispute, they required I get an updated receipt for the price difference from the vendor which is impossible given they refused by email already. Although the actual movers were great to work with, the business person we worked with on the other end, Chris, was rude and dismissive. Given this experience I would not recommend. read more

I give 1 star because my experience was great until it wasm't. In regards to Gallo: Customer service, the packing team and initial phase of our move was very good. After that, a very valuable box is 'missing'. They use 'barcodes' that are apparently never scanned to identify missing boxes nor employ surveillance cameras in the storage area. Also, they sub out delivery to 'haulers' without inventory accountability. Sage advice: Use AirTags in your boxes to make sure your belongings get to you. read more

Prompt, amazing, strong, professional, and cool & calm under pressure. They worked hard to disassemble furniture, lug it down and out townhouse stairs, maneuvered around the dog, and dealt with two sets stairs. The townhouse is about 45 minutes away from their location and the owner Tony came the day after to pick up a few items that had been left behind. The prices were more than fair and I was so happy with the entire event. There is no doubt I will recommend them to everyone and will definitely use them again. Terrible experience with this company. Poor communication and customer service. They damaged a dining room china cabinet , that's an heirloom in the family for many years! Gallo was hired to move a 91 and 93 year old couple. I asked what I needed to get these people moved in, as I was not close by. Gallo movers said, "We do it all." I asked what would be needed at the new location and was told again, "We do it all" and I said this was very helpful as they had little help at the new location. They filled the boxes haphazardly which made it hard to unpack. When they arrived, they set up the bed and moved the boxes from the truck to the rooms and left. They did NOT put the couch or the chair on the risers as they were in their previous location. Gallo did not bring the cord to charge the scooter the 91 year old uses to get around. They DID NOT do it all!! I strongly recommend you NOT use Gallo Movers. read more

DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS [ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A WOMAN]. My University hired them to pack up my belongings and upon delivery [where NO masks were worn despite delivering to multiple college apartments] I found that over $1,000+ worth of items were missing. I understand that sometimes boxes go missing - however this was not the case here. The items missing were my two north face parkas [obviously expensive], while my h&m parka was left untouched, two pairs of LL bean boots, a faux fur [still expensive] coat, and the ENTIRE CONTENTS OF MY UNDERWEAR DRAWER. This includes underwear, bras, lingerie [again, expensive], toys, and more. Not only is this a huge financial loss - it is violating + extremely disgusting that Gallo's movers took those highly personal items, in addition to taking over 1,000 dollars worth of items. I have contacted both my university + Gallo and heard NOTHING back, so unfortunately I have to turn to yelp and let you all know that you should never use them. read more

Terrible... Seemed like a great move going in (doesn't it always) very professional and courteous. Unfortunately those were only words, we paid thousands of dollars to have our boxes of life's possessions stacked (if you can call it that) up in one room, which is fine. Except for the fact that there was little regard for size and weight... Do NOT book these movers. They refused to wear masks when moving one of my family members, despite this person repeatedly requesting that they wear them inside their home. They claimed it was "too hot" in the 70s. It added to the stress that my family was already under during such a chaotic time. with movers you get what you pay for. Gallo has the highest ratings on Yelp for Boston movers and it's for a reason. Steve came out for the appointment, explained the process, gave me a quote, scheduled the pickup date, gave me a delivery date and a window for delivery. he was about $1K more than my other quotes but they don't cut the corners everyone else does. Pick up date - Christian called an hour before he showed up. the guys showed up on time in the middle of the window (the window was 9-11, they arrived at 9:45), wrapped everything needed to be wrapped, off the went. methodical, deliberate. quick without being reckless. the pickup location was tight so they brought a smaller truck - note smaller, not small. plenty of room for my stuff. A few days later they called with a delivery date. they called the day before with the delivery time. they were actually an hour early for the drop off [movers early ?!] but I was walking the dog at the time so it was fine. Delivery was like the pickup neat, methodical, deliberate without being reckless. Btw it took 6 days to get my stuff!! the last time I did a cross country move was almost 6 weeks. Steve and the office staff were always available by text, email and phone if I needed anything. they weren't the cheapest but they were worth every penny. my last move cross country was a nightmare. i ended up dropping a bundle to repair stuff. and I've had friends who've had nightmares. Not with Gallo or United. I'd use them again in a second. read more

We used Gallo to move us last week and it went great. Sam, the gentleman in charge did a great job at loading our house full of stuff in to two trucks and we unloaded without one casualty. The crew he had with him were top notch, polite and did everything possible to make sure we were happy. All the furniture was set up with care and all of the boxes were placed exactly where we asked them to go. This was not a small effort, we had two trucks that were chock full of boxes, furniture and loose stuff that all made its way to our new home. Strongly recommend them if you are moving. Phenomenal experience. We've moved a number of times and are glad we found Gallo. We moved from Long Island to Mass and even though we came from out of state they made the whole process easy. We used their app to take pictures of our home and everything that we were moving. Tony at Gallo Moving then called to ask a few questions and walk us through their process. He then provided a detailed quote via email. The day of the move, the movers arrived on time and were very professional. The folks at Gallo were simply superb! Highly recommend them to anyone. We were moving within town from a 3-bedroom w/ garage to a 4-bedroom w/ 2 car garage, so, you can only imagine the task ahead of us, with lots of stuff, and a moving date that was inflexible. We got numerous quotes, and settled on Gallo. During the quote process, Bill did a fantastic & thorough job of identifying all cabinets, furniture pieces, pictures and lawn items. He was very polite, explained and answered all questions, and was very responsive to phone calls. On packing day, Tony (he might be a robot) showed up was courteous, careful and fast. He was able to pack up 2 floors worth of stuff in 6 hours, with 2-3 breaks of 10 mins each. Very impressive. On both the moving and unloading days, Mike, Nick and Tony did a fantastic job of working as a team, being careful and being prompt. They put the boxes at the right places, assembled all the major furniture back. We have unpacked 80% now, and still did not find a single item damaged. We booked Gallo on the recommendation of a realtor friend and couldn't be happier with the choice. Bill and his staff were very responsive and came to our old house the same week we called to give us an estimate, which I recall was very close to spot on. On moving day the crew showed up promptly, loaded up the truck with no issue and met us at the new house a few miles away. They unloaded everything and set it where we asked, were polite, and worked quickly and efficiently. All in all, it was a smooth move and priced very fairly. I will first say that everyone I dealt with at Gallo was pleasant and helpful, and handled all of my things very well. The young men who did the actual moving were outstanding. Unfortunately, my experience with Gallo took a turn when the crew foreman tallied the bill after after the crew had finished moving my possessions into my new home. The bill wound up being $1000 more than any number that I had been quoted. There was a delay in my move in date, but I had been assured that I would only be charged for the cost of moving my things off the truck into the warehouse and then moving them back on (and then, of course, the cost of moving the items into the house. When I was presented with the bill, it turned out that I was being charged substantially more. I was confused. The foreman demanded immediate payment nonetheless, so I had no opportunity to evaluate the situation or talk to the company about it and the apparently inaccurate representations that had been made to me. The discrepancy in the billing, combined with the pressure applied to me to pay up immediately left me with a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I used them 5 years ago when I moved from Mass to RI and gave them 5 stars. There were 3 problems this time. 1. The estimate was 25% less than the actual cost. 2. The crew chief kept complaining about the amount of packing they had to do. (perhaps a problem with the estimator) 3. Was told in advance that they would pick up broken down boxes for recycling by the estimator. This was corroborated by the crew chief. After two phone requests to the office, without action, I gave up and paid someone to take them. read more

They did a horrific job transporting out possessions from Prov, RI to Dallas, TX. Quite a few of our items, many almost brand new, were severely damaged. 65" TV they packed for me was destroyed, dresser, mini-freezer, kitchen chair, table leaf, reclining chair, entertainment center, all pretty poorly handled. A boxed marked "Fragile - Plates" was crushed nearly into a V-shape resulting in quite a few broken dishes. Suitcase wheels completely smashed off the bottom (clearly dropped). Due to some error, not on my part, our items came in 2 separate deliveries - but there was no communication with the second delivery, so the second delivery company was unaware that they needed to re-assemble a large bed & did not bring tools. Someone was sent back a few days later to complete the assembly, but I had to really pester them to make sure it got done. All this obviously was quite disappointing to say the least. To me the most offensive part of the experience was how I was misinformed about filing the claim for the damaged items. As many of these items are part of a set (bedroom set, kitchen table & chairs, etc), I was unsure how to value them. The rep I spoke to from Gallo told me to list $1 for the value of the item and the claims team would know what that meant & would help determine the value of the item, so it could be repaired, replaced, etc. Turns out this is completely incorrect and I find either intentionally misleading or grossly ill-informed. The company told me this is completely wrong & he felt misleading to try to reduce the amount of money the company had to pay me. Either way, now I have to fight to get my claim adjusted to accurately reflect the value of my items and I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well for this issue. read more

We just had our 2nd successful interstate move with Gallo! We used them to move from Boston to the Chicago burbs back in 2011 and had an excellent experience with them packing and moving us. Mike and the rest of the crew was not only super efficient and professional but fun as well. It's not easy to move out of a 3rd floor walk-up! We were also thankful that Mike drove our stuff to IL because the crew on that end (United Van Lines) weren't as good. We were so impressed that when we found out we were moving back to the area, we specifically contacted them to say we wanted them to move us in on the Boston-end. Meg and Bill from the office were in touch almost daily (it helped that they kept a record of our previous move) and made sure everything was filled out correctly. The United Van Lines guys (on the IL end) were okay, but again when it came to delivery, we were so relieved to have the Gallo crew. The driver called 4 days ahead telling me he had our load and when to expect them and to check on details (parking permits, which floor, etc.). The driver (John?) was terrific and clearly very, very experienced. On one of the hottest days, he and the 2 other movers didn't stop moving (and we're on the second floor) and got our stuff unloaded and re-assembled faster than the guys who picked up. We had used Gentle Giants several times in the past, and while I really like them and find them very reliable, Gallo is much more reasonably priced and has great people working there. Everyone I dealt with at Gallo was very professional. The difference maker for my decision was the onsite estimate which by the way not all movers do these days. Thanks to Bill as the estimate was nearly perfect. The move went GREAT! The guys who did the move were super - very respectful of my property and took care of everything without any issues. They really worked hard to fit my large desk into the smaller house with a tight turn to get it into the room it was going to. Fortunately after several attempts they got it solved without having to try and take it apart which likely would have been a problem given how it is put together. We recently moved to Falmouth from Holliston MA. Gallo moving was 5 stars on service level from beginning to end. The quote and final bill were spot on with each other. This is so important when budgeting for a new home. I have often heard from friends that have gotten final bills from other moving companies that the numbers were WAY higher then the quote they received in the beginning. The team that did our move was very professional but at the same time had a personal touch that allowed the process to be fun. Take it from me, I served in the military for 12 years and went through a household move every three years. I also have moved outside of the military numerous times using multiple movers, most sub par. These guys, know moving which in a word is a tough job and even tougher to find the right mover. Not only were the guys professional and polite, they took the brutal job of moving out of my hands and made it look easy. They covered the floors and took time to move furniture the right way and even disassembled and reassembled the furniture at each point. Plus they were priced at half the cost of other movers and did it all in one day in a 10 hour time period. It was the best experience with a move I have ever encountered and this was the reason I researched about 20 movers and settled with these guys. They really backed up all the positive reviews and their reputation. If you are dealing with the grueling process of having to choose a mover, just make the decision to go with these guys and you will not be sorry! read more

This summer we moved from Boston to Chicago using United. Gallo was the agent handling our move in Boston and we couldn't be more disappointed. Bill from Gallo came to our apt, walked us through our options, and offered multiple estimates (varying based on day & transport method). We received multiple quotes lower than United's but ultimately decided on United/Gallo because Bill was extremely helpful and responsive to our questions and concerns. While our experience with Gallo/United leading up to the move was great, it all went downhill from there. We opted to go with the 'container' method b/c it allowed us to pick an exact unload date, ensured our items would not mix with another family's, and because the containers would arrive in a box-truck that could fit on our street. On load day, much to our surprise, the Gallo crew DID NOT come with the containers. Asked why, they indicated there was a miscommunication and the containers had not been built in time. Not having the containers on site was a problem because it didn't allow us to ensure that all of our stuff would fit into the 3 containers we had ordered - we couldn't monitor whether the movers were efficiently using all of the container space nor could we prioritize which items to send/leave had space been an issue. An additional container would have cost another 1K and although our stuff did end up fitting, we did not appreciate the additional headache and concerns this caused as a result of Gallo's "miscommunication". The movers also did not take steps to protect our apt nor did they properly handle our furniture as promised (and paid for). They didn't put up/lay down door/floor protectors; in fact, they rolled dollies within the apartment, which left trails of dirt throughout since they used the same dollies outside. The crew was extremely "dolly" happy as they used it to even move our furniture. This wouldn't be an issue had the crew covered them with blankets so the metal dolly wouldn't scratch up our furniture, but of course, they didn't. We also paid EXTRA to have our 2 mattresses placed in boxes onsite. However, this did not happen as they carried them out of the apt on their sweaty backs (literally). When we asked why they were not being boxed inside the apt, the movers said they would do so inside the truck. When we later looked inside the truck, we noticed that our mattresses were still not boxed and left completely unprotected from the dirty truck floor/walls. The movers then admitted they FORGOT the boxes but would place them inside boxes back at the warehouse. To make matters worse, we later caught both movers SMOKING inside the truck, right next to our uncovered mattresses. This was really disgusting, not to mention that it posed a health/fire risk and was in direct violation of company policy (and most likely state & federal laws). We relayed what had happened to Bill a few days after the move. Bill forwarded our msg to Tony, Gallo's owner, who apologized and offered assurances that such practices would not happen again. While Tony seemed sincere, his words didn't make us whole so we asked if Gallo would compensate us to replace our mattresses. Tony replied by saying that it "would be a claim[s] issue" that would have to be handled by United's claim dept. We were disappointed by Tony's response as it showed a lack of taking personal responsibility/accountability for the unprofessional actions of his crew. When our mattresses arrived, they indeed reeked of smoke and contained numerous stains/marks. Unfortunately, they were not only the items we had to submit a claim for. Both of our chests of drawers were damaged and several of our boxes were crushed. The box containing our "high value items" (which we labeled, documented, & the crew inspected) had several puncture holes throughout - one of which lead to an expensive handbag being scratched/damaged. Not to be outdone by Gallo, United's claim dept also managed to be a major disappointment. After submitting our claim, Susan, the United adjuster, sent out a 3rd-party rep to inspect our damaged items. We didn't hear back for several weeks so we asked Susan for an update. She said she would start on the settlement offer shortly and told us to continue holding on to our damaged items until everything finalized. At first, this was only a minor inconvenience but after another 3+ weeks of no response, we started to get annoyed that we still didn't receive a settlement offer and that we had to continue to hold on to the damaged pieces; after all, a condo is a place of residency, not a storage unit to house damaged items. We again contacted Susan for an update and asked when we might expect a resolution; however, a week later, still no reply from Susan...not even a "we're still working on it" response. Talk about a big customer service FAIL. If you're looking for a Boston moving company that has professional crews and takes pride in protecting your belongings then definitely DO NOT go with Gallo. read more

I need afew end tables, lamps and a big easy chair moved. I would do this myself with freings but i have a herniated disc. Gallo got great reveiws so i figured I would give them a call. I told them I needed about a pickup trucks worth from Mendon to Lynn. They guy didn't as any questions and just said that for a job that small it would be an hourly rate of 130 per hour minimum with a crew and a minimum of four hours. Sounded like they just didn't want to drive to Lynn. Too bad Im a consultant and live in a house on the ocean and will need movers in the future for a big job. Not calling them again ever. I had this company move me yesterday from Scituate to a storage unit in Pembroke and I cannot say enough good things. The 2 guys(Mike and Tony)who moved me were courteous, friendly, polite and respectful. They moved things forward quickly and carefully and actually made a grueling process kind of fun. These guys are great! Every interaction I've had with the members of the Gallo Moving & Storage Team has been superior. They are super responsive and highly professional. They arrived on time and took great care loading and unloading our belongings. We had an excellent experience with a great crew of movers who were on time, professional, efficient and basically just very good at what they do. They were so conscientious and were so patient with us. (We had some last minute / game time decisions to be made with regard to the furniture b/c our realtor recommended leaving some furniture to stage the house. We also used a COW (Container on Wheels) (also from Gallo Moving & Storage) to stage the home we were selling and basically declutter our home while we prepared to move to our other home - I highly recommend this strategy). The COW was also delivered on time and with great care. It can then be loaded and transported to another location to supplement the move or if you have to stage your home and move some items at different times. Most importantly, they were also super honest. Given the game time decisions we moved less furniture than we previously thought. So our bill was adjusted to reflect the actual amount vs. the price we were originally quoted. We really appreciated their honesty, conscientiousness and hard work. My husband and I can't say enough good things about them. They made moving (IMO - an inherently stressful experience) significantly less stressful. For that, we are most appreciative!
