I find Erin at Extra Space Storage knowledgeable and easy to work with. I am moving out of the 5 x 10 unit because of the unpredictable price increases. I moved in Feb 2020 with a stated price of $74/month. I then prepaid the very next month for five months at the same rate. As soon as the prepaid term ended, I was notified the cost went up to $81/ month - a $7 month (or 109%) of the original cost after only 6 months renting. I prepaid the next six months at $81/month. Now that this has ended, I have been told the new monthly rent is $161/month - 217% of the original cost just 17 months earlier. The cost of renting the unit has more than doubled. The site is clean and very accessible. Erin is helpful and super supportive. However, paying $74 month to begin with, and being asked to pay an extra $87/month just 17 months later is not sustainable for me. It is noteworthy that their website says there is just one unit left. It appears as demand increases, they are raising prices of current customers to what the market would bear. I understand variable pricing based on demand; just not doable for me. I also want to note that the website lists a web rate of $155 and an in-store rate of $200. It's unclear why I would then be charged $161 - neither the stated price nor the web price. This suggests you may want to check multiple sources to be sure you're quoted the lowest price. read more

We needed a 10 x 10 drive up access storage space for a kitchen and living room remodeling project and we needed it fast. It was all done online and super easy. I haven't even needed to speak or see anyone in person at all. Accessing the property and our unit was super easy. Although I did have a little issue finding the keypad to exit the property as it was on an unmarked pole, that looked like all the other poles around the property... until I noticed the keypad. But that was the only small issue I had. Oh, and my light bulb doesn't turn on in the unit, but I don't think I'd need to go into it after day light hours anyway. It'd just be nice to have in case I ever wanted to though. Other than that, great experience so far! read more

My last review was 5 stars. Had my stuff in this place for years. I recently had a death in the family and I recently got a new debit card so the payment update slipped my mind. After being here for years and continuously getting my price raised I haven't said anything or any complaints. I get a call today and told I will have to pay late fees on top of my unit rental or my stuff will be locked and this was the first call they gave me!! I definitely miss the old manager because this new one is incompetent and can't keep long time customers happy. Lost my business here and will be looking for a new storage near me. read more

Get ready for CONSTANT RENT INCREASES! I was at this place for 3 years and every 4 months, they would increase the rent, till I was paying 3 times as much. Watch out for that, it will get expensive real soon. They assume you are too lazy to move and keep cranking up the rates. Best thing to do? Get shelves and get ready to move. I moved and my rates are back to normal now. This makes a satisfied business relation impossible, as the value constantly diminishes. read more

Over the years, I have been a repeat customer at this location 4 times now. Erin the Assistant Manager called to invite me in to see the units they had available to rent. Erin is very friendly and polite. When I arrived I met with Rick the manager. While showing me the unit to the back of the property. He realized he a unit up closer to the front gate, it was a better unit for my needs and worked out perfect. Both Rick and Erin are professional and kind. I thank them both! Thankfully the former manager of the Castro Valley location is no longer working there. She was beyond horrendous and should never have had a job working with the public. Although they have new staff, it appears that they are trying. A good first step in the right direction. They are very overpriced but I have not had any theft issues aside from the former manager rummaging through my entire unit and destroying thousands of dollars worth of my property. I would definitely advise to use another storage company and/or location. I would move my belongings out of there, but I physically cannot pick up and move many of the heavy items. So I am stuck for now. read more

This is long over due, but totally deserved: I checked around the area for different storage units and decided to go with Extra Space because their rates were the best. However, the reason I'd recommend them because is because of who runs it: Rick. I was in the process of moving out and underestimated the amount of space we would need (ended up getting 3 spaces on separate occasions) and Rick made it so easy for us, accommodating to our needs. Have been a tenant since Smart Stop owned this facility. They raised the rent twice before Extra Space bought it and twice more since Extra Space became the new owner. Thats 4 rent increases in 2 years. We called the manager today to complain and added another frustration which is almost as bad. They started to lock the bathroom door when the office was closed, even though the gates were still open and tenants could access the facility. We are both full time working people and rarely access our unit during the Office business hours. The few times we do are usually after office hours, but when the gates are open and tenant access is allowed. Considering the distance this facility is from any other public restroom, having the restrooms locked when you are there late in the evening or on weekends, is not just inconvenient, but also unsanitary. We've seen tenants urinating into jars and wonder what stops them from finding a spot where the cameras cant see and urinate or defecate on the wall or in a dark hallway type area? There is no reason to lock the restrooms since there is secure access by PIN number and cameras all over the quite visible entrance to the restroom. The manager, despite his best effort, is hampered by "Corporate Policy" from Extra Space not allowing him to leave the restroom door unlocked. This is despicable. read more

This facility is a bit away from the 880, but it's easy to find with plenty of parking. The site manager, Rick is a friendly and helpful gentleman. He explained in great detail the company's policies, disclosed all fees and information for a future move-out. I had to call their office today to plan our future move out, Rick answered the phone and was very professional and enthusiastic in providing the requested information. The staff is just plain rude! I rented here for over a year so you can imagine I spent A LOT of money here. Let's start with the price increases. Be aware they increase your rental unit price about every couple months without any type of notice at all. When I moved my things there was small moths inside a couple of my stored bags. I never told them I was moving out either I was simply cleaning and was going to change the lock when they did a "move out" and emailed me about it. When I spoke to "Rick" about getting some money for the 20 days I paid up until he was rude and accusatory and was on the phone LAUGHING at me like I'm a stupid person. He even accused me of calling him a Jerk! And got super defensive! I called him nothing especially because I'm being nice trying to get some money back. I'm just appalled he was THAT rude honestly. He was enjoying being on the phone laughing at me. He says this happens a lot so I suggested they consider the way they do things on their end. I do wish Rick the best as I would never speak to anyone in that manner! He needs prayers. read more

This facility is top notch and the level of customer service by both Rick and Erin (I hope I spelled that right) goes by far above and beyond. They are extremely friendly, professional, and attentive to your needs and satisfaction. I even received a follow up call just to assure I was satisfied and my move in went well. Also, this is probably the cleanest storage facility I have been to. While driving me around to show me units in the Golf cart, Rick slowed down a few times just to reach out and pickup even the smallest piece of anything he saw on the ground which I thought was pretty awesome and clearly has alot to do with how nice of a facility this place is. And lastly, I am very at ease about the security of my unit with the security and camera systems they have in place here. What a greedy business. Apparently the new owner thinks a 15% price increase for a new customer (I rented just under four months ago) isn't a big deal. It is. I wasn't being offered an "introductory price" when I rented, so a big price increase right off shouldn't have happened. The site manager can't fix it; corporate can't fix it. Nobody assumes responsibility for the rate increase. They're just greedy. If you are considering renting here, ask them what the rate will jump to after you sign the rental agreement so you have a n actual price to compare with their competitors. read more

Great, clean place to store that extra stuff. Good value. Ricky was helpful, professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with. You can tell he cares about providing a great customer service experience. Better value than the other storage space I have at a competitor which I will be vacating soon. The door to the unit is a bit tricky but the unit was as clean as my garage and big enough to get me out of two other storage units at a more expensive competitor. read more

Rick at extra storage in San Lorenzo is a good dude... he was extremely helpful with the entire process. From showing me what he had available at the time down to the paper work. He walk me and my girl through the entire deal. Rick was super polite, answered all our questions and extremely respectful to our needs.
