I was having a really hard day that day and Jordan, the manager on duty was very welcoming, understanding and non-judgmental. I truly appreciate him. Jordan was very helpful with finding best pricing, but Britt Gray was even better. She looked at what I needed and was able to get me the best deal that was possible at the time. Staff are super helpful when you can get a hold of them. Attentive and considerate. But understaffing can often have their one person on duty running around helping others while you might need to wait outside the office until they return. Even if you get a promotional rate, remember that it's not the whole story. There's also insurance that needs to be included in the monthly rent (min $14/month). read more

I have notified the manager of the facility and he has had over a month and a half to correct the problem. This tells me that they have not mop the floors in this facility for three months because I waited for a month and a half before notifying. I've rented here for over three months and the floors are still filthy unsanitary. After speaking with one of the employees of the facility, I found out that they do not use a mop bucket at all on the property, that they only use a mopping machine which they haven't had a part for. Being sanitary is important. I wouldn't recommend storing your items here unless you're OK with unsanitary conditions. This is why it's always important to wear shoes in public spaces. read more

When I moved in, it was a brand new and fantastic storage facility. Over the year the place went to absolute sh!*. - Main gate was broken for at least a month (someone rammed it was a vehicle) and it was just wide open for anyone. - Slowly homeless moved in and I felt unsafe going there alone. - Fire doors (stair access) were always locked. -Bathrooms always locked. - Nobody in the office ever. - Once the gate didn't even open for me on a Sunday and I couldn't get into my until at all. Call the the main number to let them know/complain was unanswered. - Rate hikes like crazy. - Then finally, moved out and there was not a dolly to be found on all 6 floors and we had to make 20 trips with a ridiculously slow and frustrating elevator. Gate is often opened and broken. Many break-ins are reported. Not kept clean around building. Elevator very slow. Raise prices by HUGE percentage every year. Office often closed, sometimes for a whole day because short staffed. Accounting mistakes took a full day to straighten out. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. We had our entire house contents stored due to large renovation. In 10 months, our rate went from ~$485 to ~$600+. On that time we had over $18,000 worth of our items stolen. Extra space could totally do something about this and they're not. Thieves remove the upper barrier bar on units, crawl over the top and open the unit from the inside. Then they take your items, stash them in an empty unit and come back and remove them from the property at a later date. We were lucky that on site staff located our items in this stash unit and we were able to recover most of our things (but not all). Totally preventable - could put chain link or secure the upper bar with rivets. Or so many other controls (ID access check, or security...). We have filed insurance but will be pursing other compensation due to potential for personal information exposure. When we recovered our items, there were bottles of urine and drug paraphernalia (needles in our boxes). I appreciate the challenges of location, however, it is ridiculous to pay that much money only to have half your items stolen. There have been more than 3 dozen robberies in the last month or so. Carts for moving are never available when the office is closed. Which means no one can move anything big. Sunday office is closed. No carts at all on Sunday. Saturday they never open on time so you have to wait until they feel like showing up to get a cart. I will NEVER use or recommend this facility to anyone read more

HI! Its me again... The last poster. THIS IS IMPORTANT!! THEY FIXED THEIR ONLY PROBLEM!! I wish I would have taken a picture but I live in LA. The security / break-in issue is OVER. They replaced the grate above the garage type roll up door IN ONE MONTH!!!! WHO DOES THAT???? ITS FIXED! This "on top of it" shows their commitment to being the best and truly THEY ARE! It is sooooo clean and well cared for. Jordan is the best. So kind and quietly efficient. He is a gift protecting your possessions. I am a single woman and I feel safe and happy in the halls, elevator and unit as a whole. I noticed they hired more stall. That's important as Jordan was on his own and it is way too much for one. Oh. I met Mr Klair , District Manager who is also a great asset to this company. You can tell he is proud of his job and doing the best. The facility manager tried high-pressure sales tactics on me, which is unethical. When I visited the facility for an unrelated matter, the manager told me that I must commit to renting for multiple months or risk a rate increase that may come at any moment. Confused, I asked him to send that to me in writing, so I could consider it. The email never came. While not illegal, it is unethical to conjure up hypothetical scenarios in an attempt to scare customers. It is called manipulation and I don't appreciate it. read more

The customer service at the Dubois location is excellent. Verna in particular really went above and beyond helping me figure out an issue. She was friendly, patient, and dedicated to helping me figure things out. I previously have interacted with Jorden, who was also very friendly and helpful. I've really been impressed with the people working in the office. I appreciated that the facility is temperature controlled. My stuff was stored there for a year and half and nothing was damaged. I hired movers to help me and they found it easy to get stuff into their truck. Over the past year and a half the facility has had waves of disarray - broken gate, trash, random people coming and going but I've noticed that they have taken measures to make the place more secure and clean. read more

What a sad response to our complaint about your business Extra Space in Santa Cruz. You did not address any of our issues except the no refund for leaving early. Your facility is dirty, insecure with homeless living and roaming around shouting about Covid and Mormons, and they seem to come and go through the facility as they please. No carts for people paying almost $600 a month because the homeless have stolen and broken them. Will tell all of our friends who are also rebuilding and need a facility for storage not to use yours. We had our 10x10 broken into twice. Stole over $100,000 in property stolen. Bikes, camera equipment, high end clothes, shoes, jackets, instruments. They climbed in over the top and punched out the lock from inside. Management did absolutely NOTHING! The police said they have been there more than 30X in nine months since June 2023 and they are sick of it. NO RESPONSE from Corporate EXCEPT they did continue to raise rent!! For health reasons we are not able to move out quickly but have been working on it. There is NEVER anyone there on weekends. Just a misleading sign that says they will be right there if you text them. I don't know how they are allowed to stay in business. DO NOT TRUST THEIR LOCKS!! DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES!!! YOURE RENT WILL GO UP EVERY 3-4 MONTHS!! Start looking now for a different option. Fair St location and their manager is MUCH better except they still jack the rent all the time. The manager is great at Fair, though. Poor guy. YOUR STUFF WOULD BE SAFER UNDER A TARP ON DELAWARE THAN IN THE DUBOIS EXTRA SPACE STORAGE IN SANTA CRUZ. STAY AWAY!!!!!! I was told when I booked my storage until that there are on average 4 break ins reported each month. I asked if there is wifi access so that I can install a battery powered security camera in my unit. I was told there is wifi available. Upon my first day checking into my unit, I could not get any wifi signal. I reported this to the manager and he told me that there's nothing he could do about it. This is infuriating!!! Now I'm looking to cancel my unit and look for another storage facility. read more

I signed up online and went to move in today. My experience at this storage place was awful. First, when I got there by the loading zone door it was strewn with candy wrappers, coke cans, and broken glass. Inside the door near the elevator where the carts are there was trash and a beer bottle. And because I had reserved online, they force you to purchase a "new" lock which is waiting inside. As the photo shows, the "new" lock had been open and Extra Space put a piece of tape on it. Then when I went to the front desk to ask about the lock, I found a worker (did not get his name) who had the door locked, but opened it as I walked up. He did not greet me or ask if he could help me, instead he started walking away towards the desk. I asked if they were open and he looked at me like I had asked something stupid and said "uh yes." I showed him the lock and expressed my concern that I was forced to purchase a new lock, and this one was not new, but open. He said that it was new, and that the "extra space storage" tape proves that. He claims that is policy. When I asked further he said it was a new lock because it has 3 keys (which he had taken out of my hand). I said "how do I know new locks come with new keys? and how do I know this is a new when the packaging had been cut open?" He showed me the keys and then led me to a spot on the wall where there were many brand new keys in the same packaging - none of them had been opened. I was so frustrated I told him "never mind" and walked out. I am inquiring how long I have to stay there with my rental agreement, but will not here more than a month. read more

When I first moved my household items into this faculty a year ago, I was so impressed. It was clean and there were always dollies available at both entrances for our use. Now, a year later - this place is a dump! It's unsafe, dirty, has questionable odors (the BO stench on the 2nd floor hits you hard as soon as the elevator doors open) and clearly has people living in their storage lockers. So much has changed for the worse. Now you can only get a dolly from the office (which I understand) but there seems to never be anyone IN THE OFFICE during their posted office hours. Ladies should not go to their storage un accompanied at night.Dollies are scarce as they are taken and people live there overnight in their units . Restrooms are kept locked due to frequent vandalism. Creepy place. Price jumps up. Gate has been damaged and security system goes down. After having discussions with online staff at the corporate office and then meeting with staff at the Santa Cruz facility we were so excited about the prospect of utilizing Extra Space Storage on Dubois St. for our storage needs. Jordan Lewis in particular was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and patient in answering our numerous questions. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and high level of security provided by the facility. The parking is secure and ease of accessing the storage units is excellent.
