Statewide Self Storage in Santa Cruz is a great, secure facility that affords us security from danger, risk, or difficulty. We always feel safe at this clean and well-maintained instillation. Our units are clean and rodent free. In addition, the grounds are very well kept and beautifully landscaped. We've rented several storage units for the last couple of years and have come to the realization that this is truly the safest storage place in Santa Cruz. The company is family-owned, trustworthy and reliable, plus the prices are very reasonable. The Manager, Cynthia, is professional, warm and accommodating. This is by far the best storage facility I've experienced. I've been there over two years and I've come to realize this is the safest place in Santa Cruz. The manager is always on site and I think she know every single person by name. I had one of the most surreal experiences ever at a business last year at Statewide. To preface, I grew up in South Georgia around a lot of racists, but never have I been confronted by such racism up close and personal at a place of business, even in the south. The conversation with the woman working there started off innocently, as the woman asked me where my last name came from. I told her the crazy story of finding my birth family through 23andMe, and about how I had half brothers and sisters scattered all around the country because my dad was kind of a scumbag. I thought it was funny and they thought it was funny (some friend of hers was in the room at the time). But then it turned very ugly. She asked, "Was he black?" I was like, come again? She said, "That sounds like something a black guy would do." I then explained that no, he was not. I was just shocked and didn't really know what to say past that. Fortunately I was there to close my account, so I've never had to deal with her again, but wow. It's taken me a while to write about it because it was so disturbing, but I felt like other people should know, especially people of color. read more

Value-added Service. I rented a unit for 6 months. 1. My unit was safe, clean, and rodent free. 2. The lady helped me extensively. For instance, I called after 17:00, but she took the call. Secondly, I want to vacate immediately, and she let me include that day in the 10-day notification. Thirdly, I forgot my combination; she helped me immediately. 3. I was late on a payment; the man charge me the late fee (10$) fairly. 4. The location is well maintained; I rented a storage unit in San Jose (from a different vendor) with similar features for 150$/month. In my opinion, this location is value priced cf the location in San Jose. 5. I left because I did not need the storage unit in Santa Cruz and the price was higher than my storage unit in Los Banos, not a weekend tourist area. I reduced my rating for the price only. read more

About a year after closing my account with Statewide (Sept 08), John, the VP or Operations, contacted me saying that the old manager, "Guy," was let go because he wasn't fulfilling the position and treating the customers with respect. I totallllllly give kudos to any business owners that take it upon themselves to contact individual patrons who are unsatisfied with their service, in an effort "right a wrong." In my case, John even offered to accommodate my storage needs (if I needed the space) or even reimburse me the money I was gipped of by the old manager. I actually took him up on the latter offer. The old manager pretty much ruined my experience with Statewide, but now this family-owned business has redeemed itself. And if there's anything that I love, it's family-owned business that care more about its customers than making a buck. I'm sure its staff is now currently equipped to meet your summer-college-furniture-stacking needs. :D read more

I've been using this facility for over a year now and it has met all my needs. It's almost like a family-run business at least it makes me feel like I'm part of their family. Being a disabled person it becomes extremely hard to do the things I need to do in life but because of Statewide in Santa Cruz. I know that my belongings are safe and all my memories that mean the world to me will be there when I need them or just choose to look at them. I've never felt that way with any other storage. As for the employees they've melted my heart with their kind words and a gracious help. It is more than a storage unit for me it's a comfort zone where I can find peace even on a bad day in my life by just having a few words with whoever might be there that day. I almost didn't get a rental and I needed one extremely close to me because of my disability but they were full up. Then thanks to their Sweet, courteous employee going that extra mile for me she made it happen. I want to thank you so very much with all my heart for giving me a place I can call home for my belongings and a courteous smile to make my bad days livable when all else fails. I love this place! It's super clean and very convenient. I don't know if we will ever move out of statewide! Our house is tiny and there is no where close to enough storage for all of our toys! Surfboards, skis and snowboards and winter camping gear, mountain bikes, road bikes, climbing and summer backpacking gear, blah blah blah... I don't understand why other units in Santa Cruz are soo expensive. Our household is very happy with Statewide! On top of all this the customer service is OUTSTANDING!! Janean is a sweetheart! She is always smiling and actually makes it a pleasure to pay your bill! We usually end up hanging around, swapping stories and laughs anytime we see her. At the same time Janean is very professional and it's easy to see how committed she is to making you feel comfortable and cared for. I can honestly say that I have never been more dissatisfied. Unfortunately, I had to use Statewide and found their service to be horrible. They are rude to customers and seem annoyed if you need any help. Don't even try to fax anything to them...they can't seem to work the machine. Please, take your business elsewhere. read more

We would like to add that the personal attention and style of Janean at the front desk was a breath of fresh air. Janeen is incredible. She was formerly working for a storage outfit down the street, and moved to Statewide. She impressed me greatly at her old place of work, and would so strongly recommend going to any storage place with Janeen as manager. She cut through the bureaucratic nonsense more than one time for me. She values common sense over rules when the rules are failing. Rules are OK to a point, but sometimes they get in the way.
