Too many break-ins within the last four months, including my unit there has been a total of what I know of five break-ins. Their insurance that they use is upping the price just cause how many break-ins had happened within the beginning of just this year would recommend a more enclosed Storage place. read more

I've never needed storage before & was my first time to move in 20 years. It was so easy to book w/ Extra Space Storage. Carressa & her team were friendly & answered all my questions. I went in advance to look at some spaces. I had booked 3 separate small storages (5x15) & it ended up that I only needed a 10x15 & one 5x15. My goods arrived on a pallet, so we adjusted since the pallet did not fit through the 5x15 units. Carressa, the manager, quickly showed me another unit & changed the paperwork accordingly. It was smooth. Very professional & helpful. I loved the idea of the locks being pre-programmed for me, at no extra charge. The best part of the deal is, it's only just across the street for me. I'm a fan of Extra Space in general but this location has all-star service w KC and Ang at the front desk. Any time I've needed anything they've found a solution for me immediately. I don't know what management is doing exactly to inspire their employees but it's working! I have 3 units at this location and I just may make it 4 soon. I have used this location for years and I've never had an issue. I've always received great customer service. I had and an issue come up today and I was in a bind needing a unit very last minute. PJ the assistant manager on site and she really went out of her way to help me. I don't know what I would've done if I couldn't get a second unit. read more

This is the second time that I've worked with this place to store our relocating employees items for them, while they look for somewhere to live...and it's the second time, I've not felt the best about going there or leaving personal items there. When I arrived the first time (several months back) the onsite manager was out to lunch for waaaay longer than his sign said...and since the facility is approximately 15 miles from my office in Scottsdale....I didn't want to drive and come back so I waited (and that was just to sign the paperwork for the 5 units I wanted to reserve). The manager had to re-do all the paperwork stating that the person over the phone had done it wrong...so on top of already waiting for the guy to return...I then had to wait for them to re-reserve the 5 units and do the ridiculous paperwork that goes along with it. Everything went okay and there were no issues with the 4 folks' items that we had moved in there....but it is a sketchy neighborhood, and after hours, starts to get a little creepy feeling. When I arrived last Thursday (12/23/10) to sign the papers for the incoming tenant...everything went smoothly...it was a different person working the desk that had his paperwork in order, and only required signature's and payment and I was out of there. Today (12/29/10) however, when I arrived to meet the moving truck with all my fellow co-worker's personal item....we got the unit open....and the movers found POOP in the unit....and it wasn't Canine (not that that would be good either)!!! Apparently this storage facility (and maybe all of them, who knows), is known to have squatters when the units are empty. Unfortunately for me today, I ended up in one that had someone squat and leave a present....NOT COOL. OF COURSE, the onsite manager was not there yet to discuss this with me (even though the sign on the door said they open at 9am....it was at least 9:45am before he showed up.) Once I got his attention on the issue, he got to work with a shovel and cleaning supplies to make the area clean, so that my co-worker doesn't have any lingering smell or issues....but....REALLY? One way to solve this might have been to go check the unit after someone reserves it to make sure it's clean. I reserved the unit LAST Thursday.....so you'd think someone would have time to come and make sure it was fit for move-in. Regardless, this is the last time we will be using this facility...and for all future relocations will be finding another place that is in a better location, as well as one that provides proper customer service and cleans their facilities!! read more

This place is prone to fires with its bad electric problems in some units, not to mention the pore customer service, When I rented there, thy accused me of tampering with the electricity because my bulbs would explode from a bad ground issue in the main panel that I didn't have access to. I will never rent from this chain again, not even for free. I'd say much worse things about them if I had less self respect. read more

It was a great experience; he was handling my new move in along with another young lady's and Zack kept it cool and professional the entire time and made sure to clearly explain the contract thoroughly, payment dates and so on in between us. Great personality and sense of humor; grounds are clean and he lives on site, which is a convenience factor as well. Price was a seller as well, however, the only reason why I won't give it 5 stars is because I was not aware that insurance was a requirement upon move in; no where on the website where I initially signed up at stated that. So, that was another 15 dollars I had to place on it as well. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints and once I move out of this storage facility, I will definitely move back in if need be. I am not a fan of self storage in general after having a life changing experience with another storage facility a couple of years ago, but circumstances beyond my control made me have to rent storage again. I like the ability to reserve online with a follow up- call from the person onsite. The onsite manager from the location I chose called me back within an hour to let me know that the unity I had chosen was no longer available but she checked another location in the same area for me and found what I needed there. She sent the information to them and they called me shortly thereafter to get all the details, and when I went in to do the paperwork I was in and out of there in about 15 minutes. I left with a good feeling about things. Since then I have had 2 follow up emails, as well as a call from the manager asking if there was anything he could do to help me. This experience has restored my faith in the self storage industry! :) read more

Our problem with this company started back in January of 2012, when we realized they were raising our rates without notifying us. We were told that our contract (the one we signed) did not guarantee our rates and that we worked off of a month to month basis, but they didn't require a new contract each month. We went in to dispute that, and ask how they got away with it. We were told that that's just how they work. We dropped that issue after realizing quickly that we weren't going to get anywhere, and immediately had another issue. We were being charged constant $1 fees for them to mail us a bill every month (we'd asked them to stop doing this several times) and on one particular bill, we noticed that there was an $85 foreclosure fee on there. (the foreclosure fee, we're told, is an $85 fee they charge to cut off your lock in order to gain access to your stuff for auction.) Although our payment had been late, it had been MUCH later than this before, and never had a fee like this on our bill. Also, we paid the bill far before the auction date, so there was no reason for them to cut our lock and enter our storage unit (although they did that also.) We called the 1-800 number that they gave us, and tried to get in touch with a district manager. We were given his voicemail, where we left a message and were informed that he'd call us back. Several days later, he finally did call us back, only to tell us that he really didn't have an answer and that he'd have to do some more research into it. More than a month later, we'd not heard from him. Around the 6th of February, I received a paper bill from them that I believed to be more than I thought it should be. We decided to just go into the location and find out what was going on rather than try to get someone on the phone and be given the run around. So we walked into the location, where the site manager, Lee, was on duty. We told him that we had a question about our bill, and also asked him why they were still sending us a bill (after we'd asked them several times to stop, because they assess a $1 charge every time they sound out a bill to us). He explained to us what the deal with our bill was, and it made sense, so we decided to go ahead and pay it. My fiance asked me for my debit card, because he didn't have his. As I'm reaching in my purse for my card, I tell my fiance' that I still want him to call the district manager back and find out what the status was on that $85 fee, because I still didn't believe we owed it. At this point, Lee turns around and says "You don't tell me what the f**k to do." I looked at him with an obviously confused expression on my face, and said to him, very nicely "I wasn't speaking to you, sir." He continued to yell and curse at me, telling me he was tired of my attitude (the one that I wasn't even giving him). Previous to this day, I hadn't spoken to him, he'd always dealt with my fiance. My fiance put in a call to customer service, and asked to speak to a manager, while Lee continued to yell at me. We, again, couldn't get in touch with the district manager, and they told us we'd get a call back within 48 hours regarding our complaint. After 48 hours had passed, and we still hadn't heard from him, my fiance began calling again to find out what had happened and why we still hadn't heard from anyone. We finally got a call back from the district manager, Kurt, who listened to our story, and then proved to be just as rude as the site manager. He told us that he'd known Lee for 8 years, and that he didn't believe that he did what we were saying he did. After that, rather than just ending the call, he hung up on us, and after that, wouldn't answer his line, or take our phone calls. After that incident, we decided it was a better idea to just call corporate. Surely someone there would be concerned about the way the people at this Tempe location were treating their customers. We got in touch with the corporate office, where we told the receptionist that we needed to file a complaint, and talk to whomever was in charge of the district manager of the Tempe location. She listened to what we said, and said she'd transfer us to the right people. She transferred us to a woman, who said she was the supervisor of Kurt, here in Tempe. Come to find out, she was just a customer service rep at the call center, and had no authority over ANYONE! She was at the BOTTOM of the Extra Space storage food chain. So, we called BACK to the corporate office to try to get in touch with someone again. When they answered we asked why they transferred us BACK to the call center when the call center couldn't do anything for us, and she apologized, said she'd get us to the right people. Again, she transferred us to the call center. When we tried to call back after that, no one would answer the phone, and didn't for the rest of the day. read more
