I rented a small storage room for $55 a month and as soon as I put my account on autopay (3 months in) my bill is doubled! They will double your bill 3 months in. When I asked how they could justify this increase I was given a nice corporate answer about how extra storage space provides value with competitive pricing. They provide value by doubling your bill every 3 months. Bull! Extremely predatory, unethical and scummy business practice.. Stay away! read more

Rented a unit in May 2023. Cost is 116. A month. Including insurance. Website still says 120. Month. Just received a card that my rate with insurance goes up to 192. A month. Only had the unit 4 months. Never told me there was an intro rate. This is a decontrol way to run a business. When I called they told me the lowest they could give me was somewhere around 160-161 a month including insurance. Ridiculous. This is a sleazy slimy way to do business. We have 4 college students, 2 graduated. We have been renting in Chicago and New Hampshire and in Massachusetts for several years. We never have had this happen. Even with the same brand. Don't rent here unless you are planning to spend more than you agreed upon. They are not up front and honest here. And owners I don't need a reply. You know this is terrible business practice and you are counting on folks to either not pay attention or not care. Shame on you. read more

I have been renting storage space with this company since 2019. First at the Abington,MA location and then this month with the Whitman, MA location. Had to move out quickly and needed larger storage unit than Abington had available. Whitman had the one we needed and at a very good price (Web Deal). I have shopped around and no one has beat Extra Space storage's price in this area. I have never met a more friendlier staff who have twice gone out of there way to accomodate me (timeframes and prices). It is obvious to me that the staff cares about this business because they do what they need (or can) do to make the experience EXCEPTIONAL!!! This was my third rental. I did check the competitors this last time, but unless I saw an incredible deal (money is always a factor), I would pay more to rent here. Customer Service was wonderful. This organization runs a very deceptive introductory rate program. Shortly after renting and occupying the unit I was subject to a substantial rate increase and now six months later I am subject to yet another monthly rate increase. Extra Space - Whitman.....I rented a 10X10 and was told there was one "climate controlled" left and it was the same price as the outdoor units and the first month was free. The monthly rate came to $201.50 with insurance with a free month which I thought was on the high side but it was convenient for the amount of time I thought I would use it. 4 months later my bill was jacked to $261.50 which is ridiculous! When I called them, they said I had an "introductory rate" (which they never mentioned up front) and this is their standard practice. Buyer Beware!!! Moved my belongings to the same sized climate controlled unit at Cube Smart in Holbrook for 1/2 the $$$. read more

My husband and I chose this place because it was climate controlled, appeared clean, and was a convenient location. However, it was pricey. We retrieved our items a couple of weeks ago and found many destroyed. Our things were covered in mouse feces and urine. Mouse corpses were found in our furniture. Some of our treasures are not able to be simply cleaned and have either lost their value or are completely ruined. I can't tell you how upset I am. DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY. read more

This place is infected with mice. There are dropping all over my storage bin and in my boxes and containers. I've had to throw away countless clothing and other material I have stores there. I reported the infestation in July and after hearing nothing, reported it again in September. The regional manager had not returned countless phone calls. Not a good way to manage a business. Be careful if you store anything of value at the Whitman Extra Space Storage facility. read more

We were moving from NH to MA and had our things stored here for about 9 months while looking for a home. The staff is nice and helpful and things generally worked (the elevator is a little flaky, probably because people hold it open). On move out day, we found rodent feces and urine on many of our things. We had nothing stored that would attract them, but it's worth noting that there are significant gaps between the units, so if someone else stores anything to attract them, your things are at risk. There was also a poorly repaired section of ceiling that seemed to be an entry/exit point for them, so they would pass through to neighboring units to eat or nest. We brought it up to the staff that day and they gave us rubber gloves and purel. They took pictures for the insurance company that we purchased coverage from and told us they were starting a case. A week later we talk to the insurance company, and damage from rodents is NOT COVERED. This is my third time using a storage facility and extraspace is probably the nicest/most expensive place I've used. It's also the first time I've had rodent damage to my things. read more

I just pulled my stuff out of storage from this place that I paid a pretty hefty amount each month for a climate controlled unit. Not only did the prices continuously increase but a rodent made a home out of my belongings. There were feces everywhere that I have to toss pretty much everything. I called and was told there isn't anything they can do because I opted to use my insurance instead of theirs. Regardless of who's insurance I used, I was under the presumption that this place was supposed to be kept pest and rodent free. read more

Needed a storage unit to store our clothes and kids toys, photos and some seasonal household items since we don't have much storage in our home. First of all the rate faithfully went up by $10 each year, so we finally decided to clear the unit out only to find out that they have mice in the climate controlled units that infested our items. Disgusting. I went into the office to notify the clerk- at this time we had already closed out unit out and all I got was an apology and was told that another tenant had decided it was a good idea to store a bag of rice in his unit. Nothing like paying $107 a month for mice to eat through my stuff. He ensures me this is common among storage facilities- which maybe it is, but in any case, thanks for letting the mice eat and poop on my deceased grandmothers hand knitted baby sweater sets that she made for my daughter 18 years ago. read more

I actually was running a bit late and arrived at the facility just around closing time, but Christina was gracious and kind enough to stay a bit later to ensure that I'd be able to get all my stuff in the unit, which was critical since I was on my way out of the country. All around fantastic experience. I'm a visual person and wasn't sure how much space I'd need, even after using the online tools to estimate. Christina not only showed me various options - she provided me w/sound advice. I'm new to self-storage and Christina did not hesitate to share storage techniques (stacking different items, height of different units, etc.), explain the difference between climate-controlled units and non cc units, and made it clear what accessibility is like for units that are not "drive up." I made the reservation online and within a couple of days Kevin called to follow-up on my reservation. They were very accommodating, even changing my unit to one with a light based on my move-in date. The unit was well maintained, however, there was a small petroleum spill on the floor that was just covered with a sand. I would have expected that it would have been cleaned prior to renting. Prices, while higher than one would like to pay for storage, were very competitive from my research of other companies. Christina did a good job explaining the paperwork and payment options and overall renting from Extra Space Storage in Whitman, MA, has been a positive experience. read more

needed storage for mother's stuff when she moved into assisted living. picked this one due to low rate - went up 50% in the rate within 6 months. also, as far as climate control, I was expecting it not to feel damp due to humidity. it doesn't feel like the place is a/c'd or have any dehumidifiers. not sure what you're paying for with "climate controlled" storage. i would never recommend this unless you're sure you only need to storage for 3 months max. read more
