Hired this moving company because I saw all the five star reviews. Unfortunately that was not my experience with them. Arrived in a rented truck. Three guys and one proceeded to start opening all the closed doors in my apartment when he walked in without asking and let my cat out that took forever to coral into a bathroom. They seemed like they were taking care to wrap all my furniture in blankets but then proceeded to stand things up on end including my buffet, tv stand and bureaus. This ended up causing damage to some of the corners and edges of my furniture. I showed one of the guys the damage and he denied adamantly that they caused the damage and tried to say it was existing damage which it was not. He took pictures of the damage as did I and emailed the owner. Still waiting to discuss it with the owner four days later. One of the guys was a smartass and instead of just doing his job thought it was cute to critique my housekeeping cause there was dust behind and under furniture. Who moves furniture to dust and am I paying for movers or a critic on my house cleaning skills. For $2000 and five star reviews I didn't find this company worth either and wouldn't recommend or use them in the future after this experience read more

I've used McCarthys twice now for different moves. Rob and his crew are awesome- very responsive and on moving day they don't dilly dally! I am quite an unorganized packer so I had nothing labeled. The guys put all the boxes against the wall in an organized way and not in the middle of the floor which made unpacking a bit easier for me. We used McCarthy's Moving to take us from Marshfield, MA to Wells, ME, and we were beyond pleased with the entire experience. There was not a single negative throughout the entire process. I met with the owner, Rob, a couple of weeks before the planned move. He came to the house for an estimate and was friendly and professional. He answered my questions and left me with a very fair estimate. Over the following weeks he returned every phone call promptly and was always courteous and reassuring which left me feeling confident in my choice. At one point he mentioned that "it's my name on the side of the truck. I want to protect that." I learned later that that wasn't just a sales pitch. He meant it. It can be a little unnerving to put your life's possessions in the hands of strangers, and Bryce and his crew understood this. When they showed up (right on time) they were friendly, professional and respectful not only to my wife and I, but also to our possessions. They worked quickly and as a team to get the truck loaded while asking all the right questions and even offering some additional packing tips which were greatly appreciated. When it came time to unpack at the new house the experience continued. Bryce, Ron, Vance and Enkid reassembled everything and put it exactly where we asked. Never once at either end of the move was there a dinged table leg, a bruised door frame, or even an "oops." These guys knew what they were doing and knew how to act as a team. They also had great senses of humor. If you get the chance, try stumping Bryce with movie quotes. When it came time for the bill there were no surprises. It was an hourly rate and was exactly what Rob had quoted. No extras, no hidden fees, no surprises. In a world where mediocrity is now the accepted standard of business and where the "sale comes first and the truth comes second", these guys are the real deal. McMarthy's Moving & Storage made the moving process so much more bearable than I expected it to be. Rob, the owner, is so nice, friendly and professional. He was accessible when I had questions before the move and made sure to call the day after the move to make sure everything went well and was to our satisfaction...and it was! We had Bryce, Nick and Tim come to pack us up a week before the move and they were really great. They went above and beyond to help us get organized and get ready for the move. McCarthy Movers were excellent. We have had poor moving experiences in the past and wanted to use a new company. I shot out emails to a handful of local companies and Rob replied almost immediately. They were very reasonable on price - hourly rate with a 4hr minimum and a fair gas charge. We scheduled the move for 10:00am on a Friday.  They were taking us from a 2nd story walk-up apartment in Quincy to a home in Abington. At 9:15am Rob shot me a text saying that the crew was ready 45 minutes early and can they get started. Rob being able to text made this process really easy - he is a fast responder via text and I was never left wondering. They showed up and had the truck packed in no time. Three man team to move a 2-bedroom apartment. They were careful to wrap anything valuable or fragile and were very careful in how they securely packed the truck. All 3 guys were hard working, polite, and pretty funny. They had my entire move, including the drive, completed in about 3 hours. Good quality of work, reasonable pricing, and they just seem like good local guys. If I move again, this will be the company I use. This is my 2nd post for utilizing McCarthy's Moving Company & I can't say enough about this moving company, 5 stars all the way! Our 1st move was managed by the owner, Rob and another guy, it was a small move taking my mother from her home into assisted living the next town over. This time was a much larger move going from Quincy to Hull moving a whole household. I had met with the Owner Rob McCarthy at our home late Spring to prepare for our August 31st (2021) house move. Rob was upfront with understanding the cost of the move and what he thought we needed to properly manage our move. Periodically through our the Summer I would communicate via e-mail and Rob would be extremely responsive answering all of my questions in a timely manner. Promptly at 9:00 AM August 31st, as scheduled, a crew of six movers and two trucks arrived, made introductions, got a lay of the house and items that were moving. The six gentlemen movers, Bryce, Thomas, Scheron, Ryan, Timmy & Clayton got to work right away & continued the same work ethic through out the day. The whole crew clearly had their communication/team work skills down pat along with being very experienced movers. My husband and I felt comfortable and knew they were working extremely hard to manage our many boxes and furniture items while keeping the house from getting damaged in the move. Overall we were extremely impressed with McCarthy Moving & Storage for both moves made this year and wouldn't hesitate to utilize them again should we need to move again, which I hope won't be for a long time. I have used these guys on a few occasions now. From top to bottom everything went seamlessly. I waited until the second part of our current move before raving about the service and care McCarthys took...just to be sure the first part wasn't a fluke. On our initial move the team showed up and basically catered to our every need. They moved some really heavy old antique furniture carefully but also quickly and efficiently. We had a strange situation because we weren't moving from point A to point B. Most of our stuff was going to storage temporarily and the rest to where we were staying in the interim. They didn't bat an eye and loaded the truck accordingly. Also when we arrived to check out the storage facility our unit was stacked neatly and so that we could access anything we needed to! Our second and most recent move was into our new home. Everything is freshly painted and the team this time (3 different guys) were especially careful. Everybody we have dealt with at McCarthys has been super helpful. From scheduling to delivery and everywhere in between. I would highly recommend this company. Read everything you sign if something breaks. Apparently everything you own is worth 50cents a pound according to the contract so the $500 year old bed they broke is only worth 50 dollars and they like to highlight it pretty much to say 'not my problem' at the end when your check arrives with the contract. Hopefully I never have to move again for a while but I wouldn't contact them or recommend them without my comment of watch what you sign I gave them 2 stars because they were affordable and the owner was a nice guy. Next time I will read the fine print. Lesson learned. read more

I hired these guys for a big move within Massachusetts. PROS: 1. Price - the cheapest of three bids. 2. Super nice crew, very flexible with schedule CONS: 1. They said they would wrap everything so as to minimize dings and scratches - not the case, they did wrap some stuff though. 2. Some of my belongings ended up with dings and scratches. Overall, the difference in price was about $2500 between McCarthy's and the highest bid, so we could afford to replace the broken/damaged items. But it would have been nicer to save the money. I would hire them again, but I would wrap a lot of my things myself. read more

Rob came out and quoted us a fair price compared to other companies. The day of the move Bryce and Jeff showed up on time and got right to work. The took care with all of our stuff. Do not use this company! One of the workers did not want to move anything extra heavy and was yelling and swearing in my yard for all to hear. I said something to him and he said "go f$&k yourself bitch" complained to the owner Rob, he said the guy was fired and would not ever have him ever work again. Fast forward one week and I see the truck with the same guy working. What the owner said was BS ! When they don't want you to take stuff they try to intimidate you into not taking it. Stuff was missing and stuff was Brocken on the move, I was told well it wasn't made well. Everything Rob tells you during the estimate is all sales talk. Took them 2 hours to get to my house and I Paid for the time. You will regret using this company. read more

We ultimately chose him and his team because we trusted him from the get go. We had a fairly full 1-bedroom apartment with an antique grand piano. I was a bit nervous about how these guys would move the piano - and it went smoother than I could have imagined! Everything made it to our new home in one piece and was perfectly setup (with furniture pads to protect our new floors)! The guys were very professional and were very careful of the walls when moving furniture in and out. We had a minor issue with our wine fridge, and before I could even blink, Rob showed up with a brand new one to replace it! Talk about customer service!
