While at my April emissions test I asked Adam if he had any advice on how to safely remove some paint that some how got on my front fender (with no damage to my vehicle). I found this station through Gasbuddy app as being the closest to my location. Came over and the price for premium gas on the large gas station billboard matched that on the app. Many things went wrong here: 1. Only 3 or 4 out of the 12 pump stations at this gas station actually works so you have to drive around to find which ones are operational. Despite advertising supreme gas on the main billboard this station actually does not sell supreme gas and I didn't find out until I go around all the pumps. Some of the supreme gas handles are clearly wrapped with plastic that says not operational but some are not. 2. Some of the credit card readers don't work. I put my credit card through one slot and got to the point where I entered my zipcode to verify and then the reader is stuck at that point no matter what buttons I press on the machine. I wanted the cashier to make sure this transaction is canceled lest the process goes through some time later and someone else uses this transaction to get gas on my card but the cashier is completely at a loss how to do anything. read more

Came by on a rainy Saturday morning for an emissions test. Short line--very manageable. I went inside to ask about where I should wait in line and was greeted with a sign: "inspections-cash only." I asked the attendant if I could pay by card, and he told me that I should "stop talking for a minute so he could explain." I asked them to look at my alternator, they said it was fine and I just needed a new battery. $300 for the new battery and then come to find out 2 weeks later my alternator was in fact the problem and I have to spend another $400 for that, of course at a different shop. read more

But I needed a drink and a restroom break, so I went in and commented to the clerk about my lying GPS. To my surprise, there's actually a car wash. It's just not what I expected. I got my inspection done here. They were quick, efficient, and polite. I had a headlight and a tag light out (which I needed to pass the inspection), so I had them replace it for me since I was running late. They charged me $55, which is probably overpriced but I needed to get it done. The technician also told me I needed brakes soon, but I didn't feel like was being scammed as he told me to price out other options before I made a final decision. I've been coming here for years for my VA safety and emissions testing. This past week I brought my 2014 car in for a safety inspection and was asked if I needed an emissions test. I wasn't sure so I said yes. First, the state mandated $28 is way too expensive, but when the station performs it on a 2 year old car, that is wrong. After some research, I found that newer cars are exempt from needing an emissions test for the first 4 years. They obviously chose to ignore this and charged me for something I did not need. Exemptions found on: https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/vehicles/#emissions.asp "Used vehicles of the current and three previous model years are exempt from emissions inspections for up to 4 years." If there is a problem with the car, they will show you what needs to be done without putting a rejection on the car. You can see if it's something they can fix or you can take it some place else. Other reviews are correct - avoid at all costs. I came here for an inspection and was told I needed a valve cover gasket replaced. Immediately after they finished, my car began backfiring (something it had never done before). When I brought it to their attention, they refused to admit there was an issue and said that the car might seem broken now, but that car repair is like surgery and that the car will be stronger in a few days. I then took my car to a real garage. Turns out their carelessness while changing the gasket damaged my spark plugs and ripped my spark plug wires. After paying a new garage $500 to fix their mistake, my car is running perfectly again. Lesson learned, never go here. They will break your vehicle. read more

For almost 16 years, I have brought my car to Lee Highway Exxon for state safety and emissions inspections, and I would never even consider going anywhere else. My judgment, as reflected in my rating, is based on five factors: 1. Efficiency - The inspections are completed promptly. I have generally had inspections performed on a weekday at midday, and I have only had to wait once (for no more than ten minutes) while the mechanic finished with another customer. 2. Expertise - As a caveat, I attempt to keep my car in good working order, so I would expect that it will pass the state-mandated inspections. In any case, after years of conducting business with the station, I trust that the mechanic will complete the inspection competently and - equally important - honestly. A crucial point to bear in mind here is that same mechanic has performed all of my inspections since my very first visit to the station. Thus, my trust is based on long-term continuity of service without any problems whatsoever. 3. Economics - The station charges the fee permitted by state law for inspections. Although some auto dealers/repair shops may offer discounted fees, I am more inclined to have state inspections performed at a neutral service station for a nominal out-of-pocket fee than to go to an auto dealer/repair shop whose primary line of business is auto repairs. 4. Geography - The physical location of the station makes it easily accessible. The facility is located in the middle of a largely residential stretch of Lee Highway near I-66, not on a busy commercial street corner, which facilitates in/out access. The station is particularly convenient for anyone living in the Rosslyn/Courthouse/Clarendon corridor. 5. Demeanor - In my interactions with the station's personnel, they have always acted professionally and have treated me with courtesy. Over the years, this builds trust with repeat customers. Took my car in for an oil change on a Friday. Did not drive my car again until Monday morning. On Wednesday afternoon my tailpipe started releasing a crazy amount of grey smoke and I had to pull over on 66 and get it towed to the closest mechanic. I had no idea what was wrong with my car!! Come to find out the engine was flooded with oil and the mechanic had to clean it out. Naturally I suspected the shop WHO JUST CHANGED MY OIL was to blame. The day I picked up my car and paid shop #2 $100 dollars, I drove over to the this Exxon to explain what happened and hopefully get a refund on my oil-change and a sorry perhaps? Apparently that was too much to ask! I received no such thing, only an argumentative manager that said it was impossible that they put too much oil because they have so much experience. I told them they'd be losing a repeat customer and that I'd be informing everyone I knew about this experience and he appeared fine with that, so here yah go! read more
