Yes. This is the only gas station I would let work on my car. The mechanic is very helpful and knowledgeable. If I'm having trouble with some simple thing such as getting air in my tires at the proper pressure they're always helpful. Prices are fair. This is like a gas station from 50 years ago when people actually helped you and you actually got to know the people that work there. I generally gas up here. read more

It took more than an hour out of my day to discover that the manager would not be there for several more hours. Am a Mclean resident and always get all of my gas here. it was a Saturday and I needed an inspection for one of my vehicles, so they were open and I went. The man doing the inspection--a tall gentleman named Ali, greeted me quite rudely from the beginning. Ok, I though, so be it and maybe he is having a bad day. This particular car is a classic vehicle, which I take very good care of and so I, staying out of the bay, stood in the back just to watch and ask some simple questions--not to question his work, but things that I don't get to ask, since I do not have a full workshop at home, etc. I was certainly not complaining about the work, etc. He again, was quite rude and told me i was too close. Lastly and the proverbial straw was that my spare tire, which is under the rear of the vehicle and which is held by a chain, was loose. He rudely explained that he was going to fail my car, which btw, is in show condition. Anyway, I politely asked him if he simply can take the spare off or can at least tighten it, since he is a mechanic working at a full mechanic shop. I happily offered to pay for this service. He tersely said no. I then advised him to simply fail the car and return it to me forthwith so that I could take it to a real mechanic in the neighborhood. He became quite defensive and things deteriorated further. Ultimately, the owner came and I was able to simply find the tool to release the wheel in the rear of my vehicle, and some other workers simply tightened the tire and passed my vehicle. I asked Ali to check the oil, which he also refused to do. All in all, I will absolutely never return to this Shell--for gas or for anything else. There are several other shops that are very close and who care about their customers and are courteous. I would strongly suggest Babu at Langley Exxon, located on the corner of 123 and Kirby Rd. in Mclean---very polite and totally honest with an incredible reputation; Alternatively, Mclean Automotive Service Center, which is virtually across the street from this Shell. I will also start purchasing gas from exxon, BP or Liberty which are all within 1 minute from this Station. There is also another Shell on Old Dominion. I am very sympathetic and service friendly-especially during COVID, but I do demand common courtesy and these folks are not it. The owner was adequate and admitted the proverbial "customer is always right" motto, yet continued to arrogantly move forward nonetheless. Lost a customer for life here and I would urge the same for anyone else. Thank you! read more

AVOID at all cost! Back in July I was falsely diagnosed for an overheating issue to my car. I dropped my car off saying something was wrong with my radiator and it wasn't getting any power. This was causing it to overheat while idling in extremely warm temps if I was stuck in traffic. They called me told me it was my thermoswitch and o2 sensor and an estimate of $1,000. I asked if I needed to get both of these fixed to fix my overheating issue, and the manager said yes. I knew that was BS and picked up my car because the o2 sensor has nothing to do with overheating. The worse part about it was they charged me an hour labor rate to incorrectly diagnose my car. That really pissed me off. I took my car down the street and they jumped the radiator fans and knew it was something from the computer system that didn't wasn't sending power to the fans. Oh and they didn't even charge me to diagnose it correctly. read more

I saw the sign under new management and talked to Steve the service manager to bring my Lexus in for a second opinion. They were almost half the price and were still able to use Lexus parts. After an unsuccessful struggle to attach a new front license plate mount (after my old one was stolen) to my '95 Accord, I came in to McLean Shell on a Friday afternoon looking for some help. Kevin was so kind. He took a look at my car outside and then hoisted it up on the lift. After about ten minutes, he handed me my keys and said "have a nice weekend". I asked how much I owed him, and he said nothing. I am a DC resident and really appreciated the service in McLean. My parents live nearby and have taken their cars for service many times. I should have checked the reviews before taking my car in for service. Like others, I was told to return at a specific time and my car would be ready. When I returned... he hadn't even pulled it into the garage. This after promising that I was the first one he was going to work on. He then said I hadn't given him enough time to complete the repair. Keep in mind... he told me when it would be ready... not the other way around. He was rude, unprofessional and overall an unpleasant person. There are so many other options in Mclean. Drive past this service station as there are plenty of better options!! I won't be returning for service, inspection or to fill up my gas tank!! read more

Don't go here for your inspections. Car brought in has passed inspections for almost ten years at various locations until here. The mechanic claimed the headlights weren't aligned and that it would cost $40 to readjust it slightly, and that was the only thing that was wrong. I've aligned the headlights myself before and they should have been fine to pass inspection. I should have been weary with how long it was taking cars in front of me, and all of their hoods were popped open at some point before the mechanic went to talk to the customer and then returning to the car. It wouldn't surprise me if they did this to as many people as they can -- misaligning the headlight so they can charge more to relign it, else failing the safety inspection. Just leave and never go back. I only went there because it was on the way and I was pretty damn sure the car would pass. Go somewhere with people you can trust for your safety inspections. read more
