I have a very difficult prescription, and it's always been a challenge for providers to get my lenses right. Amanda and Steve at Eye Candy were incredible. They were confident their Zeiss lab -- in Kentucky or Germany -- could handle it, and they were absolutely right. I chose a pair of fantastic blue frames that really complement my face and style. For years my lenses have been thick, but Eye Candy was able to use 1.74 glass lenses that are the thinnest I've ever had. They took a bit longer since they were made in Germany, but the first-time quality was perfect. I'm over the moon with my new glasses. Outstanding service, expertise, and results. What an excellent business! Their design sense is terrific: the smart, engaged staff are really good at suggesting styles - shopping is easy and fun. In both locations, East and West side, they stock many excellent, interesting frames we're unlikely to find anywhere else in Cleveland. Their knowledge of optics and attention to fit are first-rate. Dr. Eric writes a more accurate prescription than my eye doctor. They work with Zeiss for top quality lenses and coatings. Everything was great until I got the bill. Eyecandy wouldn't give me the sales price because I had insurance thay marked my glasses up 300.00 dollars making my use of insurance almost useless. And then they lied and said it was the insurance company fault. So I ran home the insurance company and they said they could have given me the sales price if they wanted and that it was the stores policy. I'll never shop there again. read more

This is an update to warn future patrons away from getting the anti-glare coating they put on their lenses!My frames remain terrific and I would certainly consider returning to Eye Candy for my next pair--but after two and a half years, the coating is degrading so badly on my lenses that it's like looking through a huge smudge. I have never in my 40 years of wearing glasses had this happen. I called to see if it could be removed--I'd be happy to pay any reasonable charge for the service--but apparently this isn't possible, because the costing is part of the lens itself. The person I spoke with was distinctly unfriendly about it, too. So I guess I have to buy new lenses, which with my high-index prescription will be expensive. I won't be doing it here, though, nor will I be coming back this year to buy the prescription sunglasses I'd been planning on splurging for. I don't mind paying for quality, but this left a bad taste in my mouth about a business I had really liked. read more

I used to be very near-sighted, and I can't wear contacts any more. So, glasses. I like to have glasses that complement my outfits. My prescription changes rather quickly, too, or did, from cataracts. About six (?) years ago, I complained to a friend that I couldn't find pretty or stylish glasses. I wanted red or turquoise, and cat-eye if possible. The mall optical stores sold boring colors and unflattering shapes--the upper part of the frame slanting downward so I always had a hang-dog look. My friend pointed me to Eye Candy, and boy was I surprised when I walked through that door! YES to colorful lenses! YES to cat-eye shapes (which for me are much more flattering)! YES to a sense of fun and originality! I have never looked back. Glamour! Style! Personality! An element of playfulness, too! Eye Candy's prices for frames and prescription lenses were a little BELOW the shopping mall glasses store's. And these are for Paris-designed frames. I don't know how they do it. I guess they aren't paying shopping mall rent. (They also gave me a candy bar, gratis. Oh, and pretty eye-glass cases. The shopping mall stores don't even give you a case, grrrr.) I am a spendthrift, I know, but I always buy two pairs, one in each color that I customarily wear. And Eye Candy had MULTIPLE options for my favorite colors--orange, red, turquoise, blue, multi. The first time I got a new prescription, I was conservative and just got red--my sister's advice--black is boring and unflattering. I know black is supposed to be "neutral," but I've been color-analyzed and was warned against black, which makes my complexion look dull and sallow. And, YES, the lady who helped me look knew all about color analysis (unlike the shopping mall clerks). The next time, I had gotten a little extra money, so I got two pairs--orange and aqua. I switched them off depending on my mood and wardrobe choices. A third visit, some years later, and I got orange, sapphire, and a playful multicolor. For all moods. Then I got cataract surgery. Oh, well, no more Eye Candy. But I got looking at myself in the mirror and I had these bags under my eyes, and I can't wear eye makeup because it irritates my eyes. I thought, well, sometimes people (John Lennon?) wear glasses as a fashion accessory. So I went back and asked if they could put blank lenses in my old frames. Yes, they could! But then I also thought, why not get transition lenses so they color in sunlight. This cost, of course, but I loved my glasses. And oh, I found this crazy pair with Crayola-colored fragments, perfect for an orange dress I plan to wear to a very special event. Eye Candy is just Cleveland based. The owner orders frames directly from Paris, Italy, etc. They periodically have trunk shows, little parties to show off their new stuff. And very personalized service. The lady who helped me with my recent choices was stylishly dressed in kitten-heels and an adorable short skirt. She "got" me immediately--color, style, level of craziness (they have some sedate and some intensely wild selections). The owner is similarly intuitive about one's personal style--and level of wildness. As I was leaving, a guy came in with his wife. They selected orange frames for him. Totally suited him, very masculine-looking guy. Highly, highly recommended. read more

I lost my prescription sunglasses a week before I am to travel to CA. I chose Eye Candy Optical because they carry a brand of frames ( S A L T ) that I like. Francine helped me and I couldn't have been more pleased. She not only checked with the lab each day on the progress of the sunglasses but she also sent daily messages letting me know the progress and likelihood of getting them in time for my trip. After three purchases of Eye Candy glasses over the years, I have come to the end of my loyalty to this store. I truly love the glasses I had before, but this last pair was a dud. They wouldn't stay on my nose. I went back to the store twice for adjustments and after each time they felt better, but it didn't last. I developed neck pain, but didn't attribute it to the glasses until after a number of months of clues. My husband told me how I always seem to search for the sweet spot of my bifocal lens. Oh, and I didn't have pain in my neck when on vacation without them (the pillows were better, possibly?). After rehab for the pain it returns after reading for a while. Darn it, the glasses have to be the reason. So I talked to the nicest clerk, Francine , and she told me to come back within 4 days and she would talk to Steve, the owner. Well, I was mistaken about the warranty. My lens would have to be damaged with scratches within the first year in order to get new lens. I am out of lucky. I am writing this with my chin out to find the sweet spot in the lens. Here it comes again... the pain in my neck makes me want to be a pain in the neck. Instead I am writing this review to tell possible clients to be careful ordering lens from Eye Candy labs. I took for granted that Eye Candy would have my back. I took for granted that very expensive eye glasses with lens created by Eye Candy would be perfect. My neck is telling me otherwise. read more

Best glasses place in the CLE area! They have a wide range of glasses that will pretty much fit any personality type. Their selection is fantastic. I personally like to wake up excited to wear my glasses for the day and they pretty much NAIL IT. I'm a student and I was able to find a pair I could afford. Staff is wonderful, nice, and accommodating. Had to adjust my lenses about a week and a half after purchase and had absolutely no problems. Oh, also REALLY enjoyed their all-inclusive prices. I had the pleasure of saying this was the best retail eye glass store I have ever been to. I went to many before and I never had this phenomenal experience. I knew I needed new glasses since I was going two years with my prior pair and say this store as I was walking with my boyfriend shopping around crocker park. I wanted to check it out and that was the best decision I've ever made. I will no longer go to any other store for my next pair but this place. Fast forward to a year which is now, I noticed a crack in the middle of my glasses but thought nothing of it untill a couple days later I went to clean them in my car and they broke directly in half. I couldn't believe it, my favorite pair of glasses I have every owned broke. it wasn't that I abused them, I just couldn't believe my eyes. literally as I was stranded in my car with out being able to see. I knew I couldn't ever get a new pair to replace them without having to pay for it so I walked in the next day and they made the impossible possible. I couldn't believe how nice and accepting they were. They both knew that the particular brand i had was sturdy and well made, they never had a customer experience this. I was heartbroken because these were the one pair I never felt like I was wearing glasses and it was the best pair I owed as I said earlier. End of my story, they were generous and kind enough to replace them with no cost which I couldn't really fathom as I walked in prepared to buy another pair. It was time for new glasses, and I happened to notice an eyewear shop at The Promenade in Westlake! As soon as I walked in the door, I was blown away by their amazing selection! Casey and Steve went right to work helping me find the right pair. They feature the latest in eyewear fashions, and even showed me eyewear that I normally would have never expected to complement my total look! They are consummate professionals, very friendly, and made the usually bland chore of selecting glasses FUN! I even got my glasses (progressive lenses) in less than a week! So this one time when I was not drunk ... i know this already has a boring start but lets move on .. so this one time i was sober, in a moment of clarity i had deduced my incessant headaches were due to staring at my monitor all day. I know right, epiphany right there. So I call around a few optical stores or whatever the right term for eyeglasses stores are and the gentleman that picked up the phone was the most pleasant and fun to talk to. So I drive on over and I talk to Steve who was just as fabulous in person as he was on the phone. He patiently watches me try on just about every pair in the store.. or maybe all of them I mean I lost track after a while. Finally he helps me narrow my choices down to three and another 30 minutes of going back and forth i finally am down to 2. He is still just as clam and just as patient as I take one pair on and off and repeat this ad nausem until I finally settle on a pair from Tom Ford. So lets recap - they have an extensive selection of glasses and they have the superhuman patience. They also will steer you away from clearly bad choices and make the process of indecision a fun event. I have got so many compliments on my glasses I cannot thank them enough. As I was going back and forth and then repeating it till the sun came down (literally till sunset!) Steve said - your face is our billboard so I am going to do everything i can to help you make the right choice - and boy did he deliver. I would not go anywhere else at this point simply because - why improve perfection. Maybe they should carry wine. I know right, now that is a great idea ! Jokes aside, they are one of the nicest opticians i have been to. They are professional, know their craft, help you make an informed opinion, are incredibly patient and are my go to opticians.
