Seriously one of the best optometry I've ever been to. Quick, easy, efficient. They even had a variety of glasses selections and offers full service in selecting glasses for you. I made an appointment a week ahead and was scheduled to see an optometrist the week after. They take VSP insurance, I think that's the only vision insurance in the Bay Area. It was hard to find parking, usually metered parking or park further down the street. The equipments are clean, the staff sanitize it after every use for customers. The prelim eye exercises are very easy and quickly. It only took like less than 10 min to do 2 eye exercises. I was seen by the optometrist afterwards. I had both experiences with Dr. Avani and Dr. Ding, they're both very friendly doctors and knowledgeable of everything vision. I always do eye exam and contact exam together, it was a very simple process. I always ask the doctors a lot of questions, they were able to answer my questions and even provided some coupons to try out some new products. When I was picking out glasses, it was full service. Nancy at the front took care of me the whole time, shout out to Nancy!! I gave her my old pair of glasses that I bought from their shop years ago, she assisted in looking for the glasses styles that were like my old pair. She found a bunch for me to try it out, and I ended up selecting one of the first pairs that she picked out for me. It's hard to select glasses in your own, it was amazing that Nancy was there to let me know how the glasses frames my face and my outfits. Thanks so much Nancy for your help. After this, my first visit, I feel good about this business. It was easy to make an appointment. They took my eye care insurance. The doctor who examined me was patient and made me comfortable. After the exam the front office staff was low-key, and relaxed as I looked at the frame options. I'm giving this place 3 stars because my experience was a hassle from the beginning. Staff is friendly but the quality assurance on the end product is poor. My prescription was off so I had to return the frames which left me without glasses for weeks despite them telling me they would put a "rush" order on my new frames. The frames took weeks and when I got a text saying the frames arrived, it turned out to only be the lenses resulting me to wait another 2 or 3 weeks. I had a wonderful experience at this location with Dr. Avani Palvankar. I have always been extremely anxious about the optometrist and do not like things touching my eyes. I also have a very bad reaction to the fluorescence and numbing drops, so the pressure test has always been an extremely unpleasant experience for me. I was excited to find an optometrist that used the icare tonometrty device to do the pressure test without any of the drops! It was quick and felt like nothing at all. Dr. Avani was very patient and understanding with me and made me feel extremely at ease. The front desk staff were very helpful while I was trying on different frames, and everyone was very sweet & accommodating. They take VSP insurance which is awesome. The team was receptive to the feedback, tried to resolve the issue and offered a free consultation. I declined as I don't feel comfortable revealing my identity to them but provided them screenshots of the two different prescriptions. They said it's possible that fluctuating prescriptions are possible due to sleep deprivation, dry eyes, other conditions (I'm not sure if this was relevant to me). If I had more time, maybe it would've been interesting to investigate. I will probably not come back to this spot but I'm glad they are aware of what happened and hopefully would be mindful of it for future patients. read more

So I made an eye appt here based off my insurances website claiming if be covered. I have VSP, but it's through Medicaid which is apparently different than regular VSP so I didn't discover until the time of my appt that the services wouldn't be covered. Well this is obviously disappointing, but no ones fault. The nice woman who was setting up my appt called a place right down the st and got me an appointment for the same day and made sure they accepted my insurance! I just had to share 5 stars because the service here was so friendly and nice even when they realized I couldn't be a patient anymore. Perhaps the other reviews are a bit outdated mentioning bad service, but the women I met today were extremely nice! I have gone to the office for contacts, contact fittings, general eye exam and a glasses fitting. They are so, so nice here! The Dr. fit my glasses for me last time I came in for no cost when I only came in to pick up my contacts. It was such a relief as they were falling off my face. He also wrote me a prescription for some discomfort I was experiencing from overuse of wearing contacts. He's a really kind guy and very informative. The staff is always going above and beyond! Dr. Pfost made a good faith effort to try and remedy a less than positive experience I had at Eye Care for You. It is apparent he cares deeply about his customers. For this, I can give Eye Care for You three stars. Dr. Pfost also was very knowledgeable and gave me the proper prescription. There were times I found him a little difficult to understand. He has clearly been in the business a long time. I can not give a 4 or 5 star review, however, because they did not take any responsibility for their errors. Dr. Pfost did not apologize for billing my insurance for a product I had not received. There was also an excuse instead of an apology for not following up with a message I left. This practice does not feel it is their responsibility to explain your insurance so make sure you check your benefits BEFORE you visit Eye Care for You. Inevitably, I purchased my contact lenses elsewhere, at a place that was able to explain my insurance, at half the price Eye Care for You was going to charge me. I imagine this is a good practice if you don't have to watch your wallet. The quality of eye care was excellent but the customer service left much to be desired. read more

I usually go to Dr. Moonsamy at Eye Care on Lakeshore, but they were busy so I booked here at their sister site. I sat down and the doctor was looking up my records and got upset that I didn't bring my prescription and such and I was like, "I go to Dr. Moonsamy- I thought you'd have it." They did. It was just unpleasant that he got upset at me. Who carries their prescription around with themselves? Then during the eye exam he kept commenting on my nice young eyes, and I am young- he could be my parent's age (50s) and it was just really uncomfortable to keep hearing about my young eyes. At least the background music was ok (LotR soundtrack). I'm going to keep trying to go to Dr. Moonsamy instead of here. read more

It may be hard to tell from the outside, but Eye Care for You is a gem! I LOVE Elizabeth, who PRETTY MUCH runs the place. She can repair glasses in a flash with her magic touch and is VERY accomodating. It's a bit funky inside and could use some MAJOR updating BUT they've got an eclectic variety of frames from super modern to vintage and everything in between. The staff is friendly and Dr. Clark is thorough, patient and very informative. Lastly, I've done some price comparing and Eye Care for You is the most competitive around. I have gone to Dr. Pfost since the 1980s for my eye care needs. He has always been pleasant and accommodating to me during my appointments as has his office staff. His office is well organized and very pleasant to behold with a huge assortment of eyes glasses for prescriptions, including sun glasses. He knows a great deal about eye care professionals in the area to which to refer his patients, and he referred me to an excellent opthalmologist, who provided me with multi-focal intraocular lenses for cataracts over five years ago. Since then my vision has been 20/25 in both eyes without glasses or contacts. I continue to go to Dr. Pfost for eye examinations and for information about the latest in eye care in the area. read more

Excellent experience at this place last week. The staff and doctors are awesome! It was my first time visiting this particular optometrist and it was honestly the best one I've been to. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Very knowledgeable and professional in helping me find the perfect frame in such a short amount of time. Great and polite customer service and straight to the point! I was worried about my car outside because I didn't pay for parking and didn't want to get a ticket, but they were very helpful and got me out of there in time. I appreciate the prompt and courteous service for sure. I recommend this place for anyone who has their prescription ready and is short on time, or even if you need a new one. The doctors are great but the staff is awful. One woman made a comment about my outfit saying it was pretty sexy when it was just a summer dress and it made me feel uncomfortable. That was last year when I went in for an exam. This week I needed my prescription to order glasses online and I called them 2 times on Saturday and they said they would email it to me. By Monday I still did not receive my prescription so I sent them an email and by Wednesday I still did not receive my email. I called Wednesday and they still hadn't sent it so I waited on the phone to make sure they actually emailed it to me. I shouldn't have to put in so much effort to have my prescription emailed to me. Poor customer service. read more

I can't say enough about my eye exam with Dr. Clark. She is brilliant, descriptive, funny, engaging, and down to earth. This is not a doctor's appointment to dread! Everything was explained to me in very simple, non eye expert terms. The insurance/front desk process was easy and accurate. The office is definitely out of date (there's a sign on the wall from 1995!) but the glasses they carry seem to be high quality and stylish, for the most part. I was hit with a $90 contact lens fitting cost, because they hadn't mentioned that it was not covered this year. Every single office visit or phone call I've made, the receptionists have made a mistake that I had to catch on my own. The receptionists give off an attitude like they don't care about these oversights which could have been costly. I was almost significantly overcharged for contacts the first visit but I caught this mistake before overpaying (thankfully I was aware of what my plan covers so I caught the numbers on the bill). Later, I called to follow up about my lenses not arriving and it turns out they forgot to place the order for me. When the order arrived, some contact lenses were missing from my order. When these missing contacts were later mailed to me, they were all mixed into one sandwich bag without L or R written on them (different Rx's). I tried to order new contacts through SVContacts, thinking it would be a quick and easy process because I wouldn't need to deal with the clinic or receptionists. All they would have to do is fax my prescription over to SVContacts and SVContacts would handle the rest. My order was rejected because this clinic is no longer in the Superior Vision network, and they did not bother to let me know. It would have been helpful if they followed up with me by phone about not being able to address this request. Instead, I had to call to find out on my own that they could not assist me. I'm really looking forward to getting more competent help elsewhere. read more

I had a very unpleasant experience here. I have worn contacts since I was 14 so I have had many eye exams and have found eye doctors to be pleasant as a group but the doctor here was the exception. Even before I met him I could see that he was an impatient and angry person by the way he dealt with the woman working at the counter. His manner was abrasive and he did not have the lenses that I wear. He called them the BMW of contacts and said that was what he wore and then he tried to fit me with a different brand and admitted that they were not the same design when I asked. He was generally rude and defensive. I left at that point. My partner had seen a different Dr here that I had liked when I met him but it seems he retired recently. I would recommend avoiding this place. read more

I am blind as a bat with astigmatism and a cone shaped eye ( which I know now due to their expertise) and now I can see with 20:20 vision which I now realize I never have in my life. Once I started my VSP coverage plan, I found this place great and convenient to come in for my eye exams as well as getting new glasses. Dr. Clark helped me in the past and she was great. I can't say enough about the positive and friendly atmosphere at the front desk. The young lady at the front Vanessa, is very accommodating and she explains my coverage plan to me each time I come in so I can understand what my benefits are and how to use them accurately. She is also very patient with me as I am pretty difficult and courteous to my needs when I take more time than necessary to pick out glasses. Elizabeth, the other woman who works there is very knowledgeable and she is a great person to ask for advice when choosing between frames and how to adjust to new glasses or switch to contacts. They are just quite lovely people to see and talk to each time I come in for new glasses! The selection for the store is diverse in the brands they carry and I have high taste so I usually go for the higher-end brands (limited, but I usually find something I like) by the end of my visit. read more

Dr. Pfost is ok, but I always feel money is what everything is all about. He tells his patients all about his many Jaguars, so its no secret. The two women that work in the front are absolute morons! Let me start by saying I apologize for such a harsh review, but my experience here was quite incredible. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, NOR WILL I BE BACK. When I spoke with my new optometrist, they told me that they had had complaints specifically about Pfost's office from other clients which is why I am baffled there aren't more reviews. It is my hope that clients can make a better informed decision before going here. I went here in February for an eye exam to get a new prescription for contacts because it was literally the only place that could get me in within a month's time and had a Saturday appointment. I called and specifically asked how much it would cost me out-of-pocket with my VSP insurance for an eye exam for contacts. I was told $10. Okay, so far so good. Again, when I showed up for the appointment I asked again how much the exam would cost me FOR CONTACTS, got the same answer. To start, the optometrist Robert Pfost seems nice enough, and I'm sure he's great, but in my opinion I found his demeanor towards clients a bit unprofessional. I told him I see fine with my current prescription and would prefer to not change it much. He did not take this into consideration and gave me a very strong prescription after a very short eye exam. I told him what contacts I wear, which I like very much, and he says "Oh I hate those!" and tried to sell me a different brand. He also stated that I have some astigmatism, which okay, that's fine, but when I asked questions and mentioned that no optometrist in my many years of eye exams has ever told me this, his answer was and I quote: "That's because they didn't want to explain it to you." The more questions I asked, the more I felt like he just didn't have the time to answer them. When I asked for a copy of my prescription for contacts he said: "Don't buy contacts online." That's it; that's all he said. After the exam I again asked for my prescription which he gave me. However, when I tried to go buy contacts from another supplier I was told this prescription was for glasses NOT contacts. Unfortunately for Pfost's office, I think the area lacking most is the lady who works at the front. Now before going to the appointment, I spoke to my insurance company and was very well informed of my benefits - however, each individual office has their own costs and that I cannot control. After the exam, I was given a "Contact Lens Prescribing Fee" sheet that stated that I would have to pay an additional $99 insurance fee if I wanted to order contacts. Then she told me to sign it, which of course I refused to do. The paper didn't make a lot of sense and I didn't understand what this insurance fee was. When I asked her to explain it to me, I simply could not comprehend what it was that I would have to pay. I even tried writing down all the costs (the insurance fee + fee to buy contacts - rebate from contact company, etc...), but she changed what she said every time, so we got nowhere. Basically she tried to sell it to me as, paying this fee would allow me to come back in 6 months for a follow-up exam. I have been wearing contacts for years though and don't feel like I need a 6-month follow-up, not to mention I don't want to have to throw down another hundred bucks so the optometrist can give me another eye exam. So I paid the co-pay, left with my new prescription and just figured I would find a more forthcoming optometrist in the future. After leaving and trying unsuccessfully to buy contacts from another supplier, I called Pfost's office and again spoke to the lady at the front. I again asked more questions about the "insurance fee" and told her that I wanted my eye prescription for contacts; however, she was unable to answer any of my questions. She told me that the optometrist would call me back, but lo and behold, I never received a call. Thank goodness for good ol' VSP, I called them and explained my situation and they allowed me to go to another optometrist's office. They said that they would call the optometrist to see what happened, so I'm assuming they were hopefully able to find on what is going on there. Long story short, go here at your own risk. read more

I needed a last minute appointment and my usual (very expensive) eye doctor could not see me so I tried Eye Care for You. They are great. The exam used the latest equipment and was very reasonably priced.. I had soft contact lenses many years ago and never liked how they fit so I continued to wear gas permeables, which just don't work on my aging eyes any more.
