However, the bad outweighs the good because it is a combo of incompetence and dangerous. I will give one recent example: At the end of my 4-hour (!) routine exam, conducted by students, optometrist Dr Yoshiyama said I had a hemorrhage in one eye. I said I was told the same thing 4 years before and it turned out to be false. She was emphatic: No, no, no, this totally different; this is near the optic nerve; you could lose your vision. So I went to an ophthalmologist outside Morgan, who did a thorough (but under 1 hr) exam and confirmed Yoshiyama's diagnosis was baseless. He even showed me images. I decided to circle back to them to pay for an out of pocket eye exam and crickets - I left voicemails, I used the text function as suggested on their website, I used the chat on their website. Before I could almost always get a live person on the phone or at least a timely return call. Finally, after almost a week, someone texted me with information and closed by telling me "to have a good one". This is for sure not the same wonderful woman who did appointment scheduling for years, who always called personally and was so pleasant and professional. No matter how good the doctors, if the supporting staff isn't pro-active, professional, and helpful - it's going to have a negative impact.

I felt like I was in a busy salon with a lot of chattering. Really don't want to know what the person did over the weekend or other personal stuff. Even when I was in the treatment room I can hear them chatter amongst themselves. The optometrist was very active, talked really fast and seemed like she wanted to finish with me and move on to her next patient. The ophthalmologist was one of the main physicians. Came in without a greeting and didn't take the time to read my chart. Had to explain once again why I needed to see them. Seemed competent but lack social skills. Was Going to transfer my care to them but not sure if I want to now. Have a follow up appointment but I have a strong desire to cancel.

I want to start by saying that this review is not about Dr. Silkiss. In fact, she came highly…read morerecommended by several experts in the field. Even my coworker reached out to a friend on the East Coast who works in this specialty, and the doctor she works for specifically recommended Dr. Silkiss (please see attached). My brief consultation with Dr. Silkiss was excellent. She was honest, knowledgeable, and gave me very helpful advice. I also want to recognize Allen, who was wonderful throughout the scheduling process. I had never considered involving my insurance, but he went above and beyond to help determine whether my insurance could cover part of the appointment. I was clearly told beforehand that the consultation fee would be $225. Several weeks later, however, I received an invoice stating that the appointment had been billed at $300, with insurance covering part of it and leaving me with roughly $160 to pay. Naturally, I called the office to understand why the amount was different from what I had been quoted. This is where my experience with Latrice became extremely frustrating. Initially, Latrice told me she wasn't sure why I had received the invoice and explained that their system sometimes automatically generates invoices incorrectly. During the same conversation, however, she changed the explanation and told me that I actually owed the amount on the invoice because consultations are charged at $300 when insurance is involved, whereas the fee is $225 when insurance is not involved. That distinction was never explained to me before my appointment. I therefore asked the office to honor the original $225 quote I had been given. Latrice asked me for proof, which I had. I forwarded her a voicemail from Allen clearly stating the $225 fee (please see attached). Even after listening to the voicemail, Latrice continued to argue with me about the cost. She then gave me yet another explanation--that the doctor can charge anywhere between $225 and $300 depending on how involved the consultation is. Again, this had never been communicated to me beforehand. In addition, my actual consultation with Dr. Silkiss lasted less than five minutes, which made the explanation particularly difficult for me to understand. Then she told me my insurance actually did not pay them anything! Which is even harder to understand since the invoice clearly states "insurance cover: ..." But what ultimately upset me most was not even the billing discrepancy. It was Latrice's demeanor during the conversation. At one point, she asked me, "So you want your appointment to be free?" That was incredibly disrespectful and completely unnecessary. I never asked for a free appointment. I simply asked the office to honor the price I had been quoted before my appointment. I have never left a bad review in my life. Anyone who looks at my previous reviews will see that I don't use reviews as a way to be vindictive or hurtful. I am leaving this one because I genuinely felt disrespected and believe patients deserve clear, consistent communication about what they will be charged. It is unfortunate because Dr. Silkiss is clearly a highly regarded surgeon and my own experience with her was very positive. My negative experience was specifically with how the billing issue was handled by the office staff, particularly Latrice. I hope the office takes this feedback seriously, because patients should not have to argue over a price after receiving a different explanation each time they ask for clarification.

TIME IS UP for these individuals to change. The general attitude of 'as many patients as possible' vs. 'as many patients as CAN BE SERVED PROPERLY' will eventually, if this has not already occurred, result in either a lawsuit so big it will ruin this business altogether OR actual deaths (which is likely the same thing). This is not just the usual and customary too many patients and too few people to handle them. They do not respond to messages in the MyChart system, despite asking you to use the MyChart system to communicate with them. They do not respond to text messages, despite not answering their phone and having a voicemail that asks you to text them. I have sent over six messages across those two systems and not received a single response. Second, the office in Lafayette looks like a barren movie set. There is absolutely nothing on the walls, and it appears to be some sort of temporary space. The chairs you sit in are rickety and mismatched. The furniture looks like it's something from a thrift sale. So strange. In the end, I had to leave the practice because I was not able to get my prescriptions renewed by virtue of never being able to reach their office. The care quality was quite poor.

Ray performed a vitrectomy on my left eye to rid me of an invasion of floaters. I was nervous up until I got to the operating room and was put under.
