We honestly can't thank Dr. David M. Roth enough for what he has done for us. My name is Derek Garcia, and my brother Devin and I have both been using Ortho-K lenses with Dr. Roth. Before starting this treatment, my vision was so bad that I felt limited in a lot of things. I always had to wear glasses, and they often got in the way of the activities I love. I practice Jiu-Jitsu, ride my bike, go to the beach, and enjoy being active, but glasses made many of those things harder. Today, things are completely different. Although we have been seeing Dr. Roth since 2006 on a yearly check-up basis. I haven't always written reviews because I mentally give him 5 stars after every visit that my daughter or I make. He is still an excellent optometrist and a super fun and nice person. His business is still thriving in Miami Beach after 30 years. His huge selections and brands of glasses and sunglasses are topnotch. His office is glamorous and very well organized! We love to shop there! I would also like to thank Phil de Souza, the Director of Eyecare & Retail Operations, for his meticulous and careful selection of eyewear for my daughter and me. I need to update my review so that would be customers can understand what to expect and that is that Eye Desire/ Roth Eye care has changed drastically since the Pandemic. For over a decade I spent thousands of dollars each year having all of my frames fitted with my prescription . They have been/ or started outsourcing to laboratories that that produces defective lenses. Most of the time the lenses would be "stretched" so that you don't get a clear vision or in some cases, they've even changed the shape of a wire frame at their discretion from what was purchased, and they retrofit the lens into it, but the altering the shape of the frame .Sometimes the optometrist would catch it and sometimes they didn't and when they didn't, I would have to go back and tell them these aren't right and then they would send them back to the laboratory and I would have to wait to get a new pair to replace the defective lenses . For me, it doesn't seem unusual that accompany would stand behind the work that they do, but they decided that they would no longer treat me because of all of the defective lenses that their fabricator was producing, and even though they sent me a letter telling me it was time for me to get my eyes checked again... When I called to schedule an appointment, I was told they would no longer treat me That was the reason why. Additionally, in particular, the South Beach location has an optometrist named Danny who is clearly overworked and unbalanced, because anytime a customer walks through the front doors he starts yelling out "I can't talk to you. I have to eat my lunch. I can't talk to you I have to eat my lunch, I haven't eaten my lunch I can't talk to you" The owners of the company are too cheap to hire additional staff that can take care of the customers and give them the care and time that they need so aside from crappy fabrication and crappy customer service and to be honest kind of a lame selection of frames. They're just very expensive and not worth the aggravation, so I'm grateful that I've been turned away, at this point, because I found her are many people that do this career with a lot more passion and attention to detail and if you care about your eye health, you won't bother them. read more

While the staff at Eye Desire were sweet and professional, I was charged $800 over the course of two visits for severe dry eye services that didn't help whatsoever. When I made my appointment, I communicated that I was coming specifically for dry eye treatment, and was charged $300 for my first exam and $498 for my second visit (with insurance). When I called back to schedule a third visit (since I was desperate), I was told we'd have to use the same eye mask that I had already tried for $300 again (no other options). I would hate to keep taking someone's money if I know what I've tried hasn't helped. I wish the same could occur here. read more

Eye Desire, the Optometry practice of Drs David and Ashley Roth, just moved to their fabulous new digs on 17th Street in Miami Beach, just around the corner from Yardbird. It's just blocks away from their old and temporary locations, so it's convenient (especially for post appointment meals, happy hours or Trader Joe's shopping...I have my priorities!). The new office is gorgeous and welcoming - check out the cool floors and round windows. But the friendly and knowledgeable staff is what keeps us going here for our total eye care (they have a Downtown location which is walking distance for me, but an issue caused us to commute to the Beach and we are glad we do.) Both Dr David and Dr Ashley (father/daughter) are caring and highly competent professionals who make you feel quite welcome and take whatever time you need to answer your questions or provide detailed explanations. The entire staff is welcoming and friendly, but their Superstar is Optician, Danny Avila, who once he gets to know you and your wants/needs can always recommend the perfect frames. I know in these days of Warby Parker and other on line options you can probably save money, but I'm willing to pay a little extra for sound advice and perfect fittings plus follow up service whenever I need it. Just going to their office is an enjoyable experience (especially now in their new location) so I highly recommend Eye Desire. read more

I absolutely love the attention and care I get from all the staff at Eye Desire, Cindy is wonderful with everything as well as Danny and of course Dr. Roth, they are a great team. They have a great selection of sunglasses and glasses frames to choose from. I just ordered my sunglasses made with prescription lenses and will be coming back this week to get the regular ones. Right now the area it's undergoing construction on the street which can be a bit frustrating to find parking, but it's easy to find parking behind ace hardware store or the epicure market. Dr. Ashley Roth is maybe the best doctor I've ever had. She's a shining example of good bedside manner. I saw her for the first time when I woke up one morning with a very sharp discomfort in my left eye. In a panic, I called around to over a dozen eye doctors within a 20-mile radius of me, and none could see in the next 48 hours. Finally, I called Eye Desire and they squeezed me in for an appointment that day. Receptionist was very nice, intake paperwork handled quickly, and I was in to see Dr. Roth saw just minutes after I arrived. Turns out I had a chunk of dried contact lens lodged in my cornea - Dr. Roth quickly (and painlessly) removed it, explained what my recovery process would be like, and prescribed antibiotic eyedrops to prevent infection. The front desk called my insurance to ensure the eyedrops would be covered, called in the prescription right away, and I was on my way. Before leaving, Dr. Roth even made sure to give me her personal cellphone number, just in case I had any questions and needed to get in touch with her directly right away. Also: Office has easy parking behind the building, in addition to plentiful parallel parking out front. read more

I'm going blind or at least that's how I feel whenever I get my eyes checked. Borges' line about the books withdrawing runs through my mind as the letters on the eye chart seem to focus in and out as easy as 1 or 2 ok 2 or 3. So when i needed my annual eye check-up I looked on Yelp and found Martin's review. He sent me a private message with some solid suggestions and I knew i was in good hands. I parked easily and went to grab a slip since SoBe is a towing free for all. Once inside I filled out a standard form and within a few minutes I was sitting in Dr. Roth's room. He had great advice from which angle to read/work from to taking fish oil to help with dryness of eyes. He was easy to talk to and tested my eyes again when I mentioned the angle of my contacts. He handed me sample contacts and I spent some time with a staff member picking out new frames. They also cleaned and readjusted my old frames. Service, free parking, and knowledgeable Doctor = my new optometrist Selection: They have a lot of designer names but not a huge selection of frames so keep that in mind when shopping. read more

I have had Dr. Roth updating my prescriptions since I moved to Miami 15 years ago. I just recently had them updated again. He has always spent as much time as needed to explain to me the changes my eyes and vision have gone through and has always been generous with allowing me to try different kinds of samples so I could decide which pair of contracts was the most comfortable as well as the pair that I could see best out of. Danny is his assistant who has also always been patient with helping me to pick out frames as well as sunglasses. Couldn't be happie The eye doctor did a great exam and my prescription is perfect. Reduced a star because he did a very hard sell on contact lenses. I don't want any. He asked multiple times (maybe for going to the beach? Playing a sport? A special event? They make some now that are one time use....) I wore contacts for years. I don't any more. I don't want to. He just didn't take my answer and should have. I've been going to Eye Desire for about 6 years. I like going to small offices like this. With it's location and facade, I would have expected a more uptight office. Nothing can be further from the truth. Dr. Roth is attentive and always has interesting suggestions which I sometimes take. Maybe I'm not the best patient maybe I'm distrustful about the line between doctor and salesperson. To be fair, Dr. Roth has helped me find comfortable contacts of two different types now. First, he turned me on to daily disposables. I have problems with excess protein buildup and these allowed me to comfortably wear contacts again. A few years later, he showed me a new brand with a cleaning system that also works for me. At any rate, I feel comfortable here and have always received exceptional care, both from Dr. Roth and the office staff, that doesn't break the bank. Mind you, there are plenty of high end, designer frames for you to spend your money on. There are also plenty of reasonable alternatives. Last year, as my eyesight has decayed, Dr. Roth noticed that my near vision needed correcting. He had two solutions for me: bifocal contacts and progressive lenses. I'm still not sure if the contacts really work but they're novel and they don't harm anything. The progressive lenses, on the other hand, were horrible. I'd rather not see half the time than deal with the hassle of trying to find the right focal point all of the time. After giving it my best, I took these somewhat expensive lenses back and Dr. Roth replaced them for regular lenses without question or hassle. They also have convenient Saturday hours. read more

If you're looking for a designer pair of glasses and have the $ to spend, then Eye Desire is the place. They have a very good collection of designer frames. The Optomitrist, Dr. David M. Roth is a local Miami Beacher and his staff of opticians are very knowledgeable. For parking, you can park in the back lot, but you'll need a pass from the desk at Eye Desire. Be sure to do this quickly as South Beach towing is infamous. I usually park on one of the South Beach meters on Alton or across the street near the Deli. read more

I had a good experience here. The doctor was great and the staff was super friendly. The location is small, but I have to say that they have a pretty extensive selection of frames for the size. Granted, some of the frames are a little spendy; but I think if you're going to be wearing glasses a lot, it's worth spending the extra money if you find a good set of frames that works for you. You can always just use the prescription they give you and shop around, but coming here you'll at least have a good experience, and have the opportunity to see what they have and go from there. read more

Great service, clean store and facilities :-) You do have to book your appointment online about 1-2 weeks in advance as he seems to be pretty booked most of the time. Dr. Roth is super friendly and very efficient. I was in and out in no time, without feeling rushed. They handed me some clear contact lenses to start as well as a handful of colored lenses to try on. This really should be my 3rd review of Dr. David Roth. The first time was when he came to the office on a Sunday when I had an emergency. Immediately after completing a triathlon, something got into my right eye. The eye became irritated, painful and my vision was hazy as if someone put a fine white cloth in front of my eye. He examined my eye, flushed the debris and administered some medicine to help heal the scratches and reduce the inflammation. This same scenario occurred again a few months later (yes, after another triathlon). Well, about 6 days ago toward the end of my work day my left eye became very irritated. It felt like there was a fine piece of sand in there. I flushed it and put in some generic eye drops but the sensation of there being something in the eye didn't resolve. After 3 days of this I called the office and got in to see him just before close on New Year's Eve. He did a thorough examination and although didn't see any debris, he saw the evidence of the debris as he said my cornea had multiple scratches and the eye was again, quite irritated. He flushed my eye and administered some medicine. The eye definitely felt better. I've been following his instructions for taking the Rx eye drops and natural tears supplement drops and I'm feeling 100% again. I could not be more thankful for how wonderful and caring Dr. David Roth is.. I reached out on a Sunday with an emergency and he called me back and calm me down. He took the time to explain to me what was a accruing. He follow up with me everyday until I came into see him. When I finally made it into his office Dr. David and Ashely Roth amazed me by the technology that they had to view my eyes. Nothing I've seen before.. it's called an OPTOS scanner ... talk about cool.. they both were able to show me what Bascom Palmer couldn't. They also did an OCT scan as well. I've been to many eye doctors in my life time and no one compares to Dr. Roth. He is a passionate about his work and committed to providing the highest level of service possible. When I first visited him and got fit for ortho K he noticed I was a bit nervous and gave me his cell number and said call me if you need anything. I had to call him a few times during the weekend and he would meet me at his office "that was closed during these hours", open it up for me and help me. I even recall one night he met me out on Lincoln Road and gave me a pair of lenses. I highly recommend anyone to switch to Dr. Roth even if you do not live on the beach. This level of service is worth any amount of drive and he should be a role model to any doctor on how to treat and service customers. I am never ever coming back. The Dr. was rude from the beginning til the end. I went there because my left eye was hurting and burning, bluring my vision and couldn't take it anymore. After reading the reviews, I decided to call. The lady over the phone was very nice and booked me on the same day. When I arrived, filled out some paper works, waited maybe 10 min and the Dr. called me. He just said hi to me, not even follow me please, nothing. I went back to his office and I just followed him assuming that's where I was suppose to go. He started to tell me : "So from what I read you have an infection, so how come you're wearing your contacts with an infection?!?!?". Me : "Mmm. If I knew I had an infection, I wouldn't need to go see a Dr. to confirm it..." He started to be so rude. He took out my left contact without even washing his hands, put some drops in my eye and just looked in my left eye, not even in my right eye. I mean if you go to the Dentist, you expect they're gonna look at your bottom and down teeth right ??? So I told him to also look at my right eye. He then told me I had a pink eye and it certainly happens since I sleep with my contacts! Excuse me ??? I never sleep with my contacts. Then he told me :"Well, most of my clients... I mean my patients do so". Saying that, that was it for me ! He prescribed me drops only because I asked him too and before I could ask or say anything he was already outside asking his assistant to cash me out... So $ 100 for a 5min left eye exam only, beeing called a client, not a patient and free rudness. MY FIRST AND LAST TIME !!! read more

I've been going to see an eye doctor since i was very very young. I decided it was time to see a new doctor so i made an appointment here to get new glasses and contacts. The moment the doctor found out my prescription was too high to make use of the techniques he's pushing, he no longer seemed interested in me. He was rude and i know it's because he couldn't make any extra money off of me. When it came time to pick out my lenses, the woman helping me was literally useless and did not want to help me find frames that my insurance would cover at least the majority of. They wanted me to pay almost 500 dollars out of pocket for designer lenses that i didnt want. I was able to get my glasses for 100 dollars over the internet. This place sucks and the people that work here are terribly stupid. read more

The doctor was great and the exam was a breeze. I have been going to the eye doctor since I was 7 so as you can imagine for me now it is routine and something that i want to get in and out of the office with ease. Dr. Roth was helpful and knowledgeable and did not try to push anything on me that I did not want/need. He was open with me about new products that they had and gave me his feedback on laser eye surgery that was helpful and did not make me feel like he was just trying to sell me something. The best part was that he suggested a new contact lens and sent me home with 2 different brands for trial to wear and compare over the next week to see how I liked. Surprisingly, I liked the less expensive, newer version which seems to keep my eyes less dry throughout the day comparative to my previous brand. The reason why I give them a 3 is for the overall experience. The doctor and his service is a 5. I had to wait for nearly an hour for my appointment although there was only 1 person ahead of me. Although the staff was nice I did not find them to be helpful and I am extremely disappointed at how misleading the Yelp deal that is attached to this business is. I would strongly suggest to not purchase unless you have the intention on purchasing overpriced frames and lenses as this is the only thing that they will allow you to use towards, even though it does not say so on the deal anywhere. The manager was not helpful what so ever with this which for me was very irritating. I feel strongly that you should stick by what you present to yourself and correct any dissatisfactions with your customers. If the deal had stated that it was specific to a certain type of service, I could understand them sticking by this but it does not which in my eyes reflects poorly on the business as a whole. Overall experience, typical to south beach, mediocre and slightly overpriced. Staff, friendly, doctor is great. Price, overpriced. Make sure you are in no rush if you go in for your appointment and know that you can park for free in the lot behind the building if you can find a spot. read more

I love this place. Walking in here was like walking into a house. Friendly staff once I was there and free parking - they even encouraged me to keep the pass, so I pretty much could have had free parking for lincoln for a few hours if I had bothered to stick around. The reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is: - when I called to make my original appointment I indicated that I needed a yearly check up and mentioned that I was also concerned about a floater I had, but made sure to let her know that I really NEEDED a yearly. When they called me back to confirm my appointment the receptionist indicated that I had an appointment to check out the floater in my eye and would not be getting a yearly type exam. - The lady on the phone also felt it was necessary to give me a diagnosis. This being that the floater in my eye could be one of two things: it could possibly be something or it could be nothing (I can't make this stuff up. Seriously.). - I was concerned, since I am so young, that th floater in my eye could be a tear in my retina (thank you WebMD for providing us with paranoia through self-diagnosis). They didn't hesitate to blow a strong burst of air in my eye without knowing what was going on in the fist place. This was a little disconcerting to me. I realize I'm not an optometrist, but neither is the girl who was doing my pre-check tests. - The other reason that this place doesn't get 5 stars is the 40 minute wait I had to withstand before my appointment. The last reason is that they dilated my eyes and then sent me out to look for glasses - this means I had to hurry and pick some frames out before I couldn't tell what I looked like anymore :) The good thing about this place is that they have a pretty great selection for a small shop. The staff is pretty patient and friendly. Dr. Roth is great as well - he didn't make me feel rushed and made sure all my questions were answered. Which is why I'll be back for sure. In all, the staff seemed friendly enough and I'm a creature of habit, so I'll be back because of the free parking, selection, and Dr. Roth is great! read more
