I know Dr. Swikard left Eye Gallery in 2020 and Total Vision says she is no longer there either. Does anyone know where she is practicing now?

I think she's at Carlsbad Optometry.

Swikard was extremely thorough in my exam and explained completely the meaning of all the tests results.

I was absolutely petrified to go through with eye surgery, and am generally an extremely anxious…read moreperson as it is. To know that I was considering trusting someone to shoot lasers into my eyeballs was horrifying. For this reason, I've put off LASIK and hadn't seriously considered taking the leap of faith for years. About three years ago, I was told that I could no longer wear contact lenses, or I'd risk blindness due to over a decade of wearing contacts while out surfing. I guess the combination of saltwater, sand granules, and whatever else trapped between the contact and my eye had caused severe scarring and repeated infections. Without contacts, surfing just hasn't been the same. I couldn't see well enough out in the lineup, and felt very depressed remembering what it used to be like when I was able to wear contacts out there. My only option was eye surgery, or a lifetime of squinting and not really enjoying my biggest passion in life, which I've been doing for 24 years. I came across Clearview online, and spent tens of hours, literally, researching the clinic, Dr. Sandy Feldman, reading reviews, etc. I decided to go in for a consultation, and was immediately put at ease by the friendliness, professionalism, and patience of the staff. In terms of patience, I'd especially like to thank Jared, who sat with me for over an hour answering all of my questions and addressing my concerns, never being forceful or trying to get me to sign and schedule. We discussed what type of surgery was best for me, how much it was going to cost (I received an Educator discount which was great,) and what the recovery timeline was. I ended up scheduling surgery for yesterday, 5/15, which at the time was about two weeks out. Last week, amidst another freak out about this, I called Jared and asked if it would be possible to observe a LASIK operation to settle my nerves. Sure enough, he found a patient that was kind enough to oblige and invited me in to watch. The entire operation took less than ten minutes and looked like no big deal! The patient came out smiling and said he felt fine. That really was the final piece that encouraged me to just commit and get this handled. I went in for surgery at 2:30 yesterday. I was a terrible patient, did not take things well, was not calm whatsoever, and repeatedly freaked out. I squeezed the small teddy bear they gave me as if I was a toddler, and squeezed the surgical tech's hand, asking Dr. Feldman if "everything was ok," and "did something go wrong?" She exhibited herculean levels of patience and empathy. I got through it, there was absolutely no pain, and the experience felt like something out of a science fiction movie. It was actually very cool! I went home, took the provided sleeping pills, and passed out. While I woke up intermittently throughout the night, the worst of it was just a feeling like I had sand stuck in my eyes, blurry vision, and a sensation as if I was looking through a steamed up glass. I woke up this morning around 5, (twelve hours of sleep is more than enough,) and found that the gritty sensation had since disappeared, my sight was near perfect, and I felt more or less normal. Unbelievable! I drove myself to my pre-op appointment (without glasses), met with Dr. Amir who told me that I was healing nicely, and was in and out of the office in ten minutes. I challenge others to be as freaked out and apprehensive about going through with eye surgery as I was. I was doing all of the things you shouldn't do: -Googling horror stories about LASIK going wrong -Hyperfixating on the rare low review and looking for one that stated someone had gone blind -Listened to a bunch of Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder and considered if my degree in Jazz Saxophone would be enough to make a living as a blind man All is well! My only regret, as many have stated, is not getting this done sooner. Just do it! You're going to be fine, you'll love the results, it does not hurt, and you can trust Dr. Feldman and her team. Thank you all so much for everything!

It can be uncomfortable at certain moments due to pressure but it only lasts for a few seconds. Trust me....I'm a BABY when it comes to shots, procedures, etc. This was a piece of carrot cake. I worked myself up for no reason. When Dr. Nahl said she finished the first eye, I couldn't believe it. I was like...Let's get that second eye done! * Most important tip: Before you have surgery, go to CVS, Rite Aid, Wallyworld whatever - Buy ear plugs & a sleep mask to put over your goggles when you get home. I…read morewas scheduled for Cataract surgery on one eye and then Laser surgery for the other eye (post Cataract) the week after. In regard to the first meet and pre-surgery appointment, I have mostly all good things to report. The main issue (and reason for 3 stars) is due to confusion. I'll explain. My son and I arrived on time and chose to use the car Valet Service due to my physical limitations and time factor. We were told they close at 5pm (this is 2pm) so make sure to pick up the car beforehand. We figured no problem, should only take 2-1/2 hours at most for pre-op testing. Unfortunately, once we got in, the paperwork to complete took around 30 minutes itself (the writing was so small and hard to read), so I'm sure that put me behind others. Shortly after, I was taken in for the testing. I had a very nice, quiet, gentle man assisting me. I have never had problems with eye testing in the past (having done this surgery before), however, it was confusing at times. He really did not explain what he was going to do or what he was testing for so I just tried to follow his verbal directions which were often hard to hear. He'd say (in a barely audible tone), "blink, don't blink". Then not say anything and repeat it over and over and over. Sometimes he wouldn't say "don't blink" so I was never sure if he was repeating it bc I didn't do it right or simply bc that's how many times he needed to do it. By the time the 3rd or 4th test came up, my back was killing me from all the awkward sitting with my face planted uncomfortably in the eye machine. I began to voice how much pain I was in, having walked in with a cane and obvious mobility problems, and asked how much longer this would take. He muttered something about a test that wasn't really necessary but something this particular Dr wanted him to do. We kept doing the test repeatedly, with the "blink, don't blink" issue. My eyes were so strained and tired by that time, having done all these other tests, that it was hard for me to suddenly stop blinking unexpectedly each time, so we kept repeating it over and over. He would mutter something to the effect that the scanner was not "picking up the right range" . I kept apologizing bc I thought it was my fault that he had to repeat it so often. Finally, after all the testing, we had to wait over 30 minutes for Dr. Nahl to talk to me. And boy did she talk! She bragged a lot and kept looking at and repeating my issues and how she was going the extra mile for me. When I stated that we had been there for awhile and my back was really hurting (which she responded to with condensation), she explained that the last test didn't need to be done and in fact, there was something wrong with the scanner itself and that's why he kept repeating it. I was stunned and bit frustrated bc here I was apologizing for being such a lame patient and unable to "stop blinking" - and it wasn't me afterall. All that said, we did not leave that office until 5:15! And it was like a torture session! I even mentioned the valet parking issue several times, expressing concern about them closing at 5pm and how we would get to our car. They weren't the least bit concerned. But sure enough, it was an ordeal getting outside and then getting to our car - which they had parked several blocks away! There was no way in my physical condition that I could walk that far, so I had to wait another 40 minutes on a cold, wintery nite to finally get our car and go home in major traffic! (Thx happily to the parking security guard who had to drive my son over in his cart) Here's the best part.....! After weeks of planning, a 3 hr OV/testing and a couple of phone calls to verify everything, one week before surgery, I get a call and msg that says 'gee we're really sorry, but apparently Dr. Nahl isn't part of your insurance plan afterall, so we have to cancel the surgeries and we'll just let you know when she does accept your insurance'. Whaaatt!!!??? You have got to be kidding me! I don't care how good she thinks she is, I don't want her to do my surgery anymore - that was the final straw - and that's not even everything I could add to this review about my experience. Anywho, do what you want with this information, but I personally lost my respect for her and her office staff.

Dr. Motwani procedure actually repairs the cornea so now I no longer need glasses for reading or driving. I suggest you go to his website and read some of his research on treating RK patients.

Hello, My story:…read more I had a 4 year journey, starting in 2018, to have my left eye cornea repaired by Dr Motwani, as I was experiencing visual disturbances and irregular astigmatism for over 15 years after a botched Lasik procedure by another surgeon in 2002. For correction, I gave up on Scleral lens fittings, back in 2003, that tried to vault over the issue of a central island and irregular shape cornea because the lense would cloud up after 4 hours of use, and besides still needed glasses over the lense to see. Dr Motwani gave me hope after a long search for a possible solution. In 2010, the famous Dr Wang of Nashville informed me that my hope for correction to my situation was topography guided and that the laser hadn't been approved yet in USA. So, I patiently waited year after year for approval. In 2018. I learned of Dr Motwani's new protocol, LYRA, and he had 2 years experience on this laser, the Alcon EX500 (former Wavelight) to perform topography guided Lasik, which was finally approved for USA by FDA in 2016, but was being used in Europe successfully for over 10 years prior. Dr Motwani tried his best to repair; however, the first Lasik attempt he performed in 2018 resulted in disaster, 5 days later, leaving me with epithelial ingrowth nightmare. Had I known prior that there was a 50/50 risk of 'epithelial ingrowth' by lifting up an existing Microkeratome created flap, that is over 3 years old, I may have declined to proceed with Lasik surgery, and gone with PRK instead. Dr Motwani, if you're reading this review, please inform patients of this risk of epithelial ingrowth, as I read other reviews with the same nightmare outcome. Thank you in advance for this consideration, sir! I had a local surgeon in Oklahoma who agreed to see me but was reluctant to lift the flap to try to wash away some of the cell invasion (epithelial ingrowth) with saline squirts. After Motwani consultation with the Oky surgeon, he agreed to attempt the cleanup of cells; however, peripherally, he was to afraid to, siting that to risky, that there would be a good chance of additional cell invasion if he lifted the flap too much, in the initial area of intrusion. It's these remaining cells that have caused my grief and aggravation. In the meantime, I continued to see my corneal specialist locally as Dr Motwani had insisted. This corneal specialist noticed that the epi ingrowth cells outside were still linked underneath the flap, that the colonization had to be unlinked, so I flew back to San Diego for another procedure. Back in California, Dr Motwani attempted to clean up, the best he could, these now solified colony of epithelial cells, alongside the flap edge, that left me with a shim of cells, raising the edge of the flap of my cornea, and now I realize that scaring must have ensued later, as a result, which I learned from my latest doctor, over 4 years later. Back home, my corneal specialist seemed pleased with the results of the cleanup. Hey, Dr. Motwani, that was great advice to keep following up with my specialist. To Dr Motwani's credit, he never abandoned me throughout this 4 year ordeal, and I owe him a debt of gratitude for that. Ironically, I don't think he would ever admit that the high spot and scaring from epi-ingrowth would have this adverse lingering effect on my vision today, which, if so, would be quite bewildering, whilst the evidence is clear that only a Scleral lense can resolve. In summary, in this bad eye, I endured in total, 2 Lasik and 5 PRK surgeries between 2018 - 2022 with Dr Motwani, and he was able to eliminate virtually all the astigmatism, on the last retry; however, visual disturbances and irregular astigmatism persists due to the remaining high spot alongside the edge of the flap with scaring, resulting in a lost of 2 lines of vision. After each surgery, I always followed up with my local specialist, bewildered that I had lost 2 lines of vision - yet I kept hoping that each additional surgery would restore it, not realizing that over coming the epithelial ingrowth was really an exercise in futility. Still looking for a solution to my dilemma, I learned that soft contact and spectacle correction was an exercise in futility, too, so I thought I would try my last hope to inquire about Scleral lenses again. So, in Oct 2022, just 4 months after my last PRK surgery with Motwani, I was informed that Scleral technology has really evolved in the last 19 years, since the last time I tried, in 2003. Well, I'm happy to report - the good news is that custom scleral lenses have advanced, and I've found a local doctor who has given my vision back. I'm so grateful! I can drive at night again! So, my advice would be, for others, considering an enhancement or repair, if you have an old flap, created with a Microkeratome, is to not lift it, IT'S NOT WORTH THE RISK, but instead have Dr Motwani consider custom trans-epi PRK, 2 stage, as he is the best in my opinion. Kind regards

Day of the Surgery: The actual procedure was done in a very short period of time. I felt pressure on my eye socket, but nothing else. You just stare at some lights and each eye is done in a matter of 20-30 seconds. Once you're done, they give you protective goggles and send you off with whoever is driving you. You get meds to help you sleep and relax your eyes for the rest of the day. When I woke up from this, I could already see much better. Next Day: I woke up and was astonished at how good my vision was. I have books across the room from my bed and I could read all the titles from where I was laying. Pre-surgery I couldn't even tell there was writing where the titles were. I had my check up at NVision, which I drove myself to and the rest of the day was great. Day 3: This day, my eyes hurt like hell. I took drops a lot and tried to keep my eyes closed a lot. The rest of the week, the pain decreased and went away and my vision continued to improve. I was never more excited when I didn't have to wear the goggles to bed anymore haha Over the next several weeks and months, my eyesight was much crisper than it had ever been when I wore contacts. Colors were more vibrant and I could read street signs much farther away. My eyes needed drops at the beginning and end of days as they were frequently dry and to this day I still have minor halos around lights at night, but damn this eyesight is a dream. If you are eligible for Contura, I would definitely spend the extra money and do it. It made a big difference for me.
