I had a great experience here today... Such nice people all around... A very calming environment, and Dr. Yap definitely has the nicest attitude and professional / kind demeanor. While picking out frames I felt no pressure or upsell. In fact, I was ready to buy the most expensive frames I found, and the guy helping me found another frame for $200 less and I actually liked them more... On top of that, they came with stylish magnetic polarized sunglasses to lay on top of my glasses! I didn't get his name, but I truly appreciated his honesty and integrity in helping me find something more affordable. I will be coming back here for sure! read more

I'm sure this review is going to seem really weird, considering how highly everyone else has rated them. I am in agreement that the staff members were all very nice, and the office was clean with a cute layout. My review is negative for 2 reasons. First, because the eye doctor I saw, Brian Yap, lied to me during my appointment by saying that RGP lenses didn't do what medical science says they do, which is correct astigmatism, and that most eye doctors do not prescribe them for that reason. I googled RGP lenses immediately upon leaving, as RGP lenses are what I have been prescribed for 18 years, and discovered that not only does the current science support the idea that they correct astigmatism, but also that RGP lenses are better for your eye health in general, they're just not as lucrative as soft lenses. During this appointment, he convinced me to try soft contacts. Major red flag to be lied to about something by any kind of doctor in order to make a sale, so I was already suspicious of this business. My second reason for the negative review is that I believe they were trying to commit some sort of insurance scam with me. At the time of my appointment, I was charged $75. $15 was my copay for an exam, and then an extra $60. They did not explain what that charge was for, but told me that without insurance, it would have been $300. I assumed this was for my contacts. They texted me this morning to ask if I liked the soft lenses, and if they could finalize my prescription. I thought I had paid for them already, so I asked for clarification, and they said that $60 was for the contacts lens exam, and I had not paid for my contacts, not the 6 month prescription nor the annual. I asked what my insurance was paying for, and they explained the pricing of the yearly prescription, and that it was an additional $60 - this lines up with the amount I paid already and the breakdown of pricing had I not had insurance, unfortunately, they continued to say I had not paid for this yet. At this point they told me the 6 month prescription was fully covered, contrary to what they told me originally. I contacted my insurance immediately to ask what my benefits were and what I should be expected to pay from this visit, and by doing so ended up reporting Eye Q. Optometry for their actions. As soon as I notified this office that I had been in contact with my insurance and should not have been charged $60 for the exam, as my insurance plan covered that, they tried to backtrack, told me there had been some confusion, and they were going to refund me. I am attaching all screenshots of the text exchange. I asked multiple people if it seemed like a fraud attempt and they agreed. Had I not been confused about what I was paying for, they might have gotten away with it. I'm confident they were lying to me about the cost and what I paid for, and were trying to run a scam, because of how easily the doctor himself had lied to me about RGP lenses. This experience has been so disappointing. I would not recommend this office to anyone for any reason, and I strongly recommend that every patient that goes here contact their insurance to make sure their charges are correct. read more

Needed my glasses repaired quickly. Heard there was an Optometrist near my house so I headed over. Walked, in and was immediately sat down, they took my glasses almost immediately and I was in and out in about 7 minutes! Would highly recommended. Leo was even able to fit the glasses perfectly to my face just by looking at me, got it right on the first try! Also, they run a humidifier inside which just makes it really nice to breathe. It was my first time checking out Eye Q, and I had a great experience! I made an appointment online and it was super easy and quick. The last time I had my eyes checked I was in 6th grade, so I can't remember how the whole eye exam process works. Dr. Brian Yap was great with making me feel comfortable and explaining each step, and answering all my questions. I wish I got the woman's name upfront, but she helped me find glasses that were suitable with my style and even checked online for glasses they don't carry but can special order. I will start by saying the staffs are very nice. But I ran into problem with one of my prescription for my driving glasses to include transition lenses. 1st time I picked up this pair of glasses the prescription was way off. Retested my prescription. Ok 2nd time picked up glasses wore it for a few days I still can't see well. Retested again. Today picked up the glasses left went shopping I the sunshine but my lenses aren't transition to dark. Ran back to optometry to have it redone. I have been seeing Dr. Brian Yap for several years and my husband recently joined the practice as well. We were due for our annual eye exams and recently moved back to the neighborhood. The office is inside the Eagle Rock Mall and is very easy to locate with plenty of free parking. COVID procedures are being strictly enforced and you cannot even enter the store until you've had your temperature checked. The chairs are spaced out, plexiglass is in front of all the work stations, double masks are being worn by staff, hand sanitizer is readily available and frames/sunglasses are wiped down after try-ons. We felt completely safe while both in store and in the examination room as well. All of the machines were cleaned right before we used them (and wiped down afterwards as well). Dr. Yap is extremely professional, as well as warm-hearted and quickly makes you feel at ease. He takes his time answering any questions you have and the appointment never feels rushed. They have a large selection of designer and non-designer frames that can fit a wide variety of price ranges and they work with most insurances. The front office staff is also extremely knowledgeable and can help you make the most of your insurance (should you wish to use it towards your visit). I have been a happy customer for years and have recommended Dr. Yap to all of my friends in search of a great optometrist! read more

Oh, how I love thee, let me count the ways: 1. Dr. Yap and his team are very knowledgeable. Dr. Yap used a visual to explain what was going on with my eyes. I have an astigmatism and my eyesight is at -10.5 right now. Yikes. When I go to the doctor, I'm the type of patient that asks a million questions. Not because I don't trust my doctor but because I'm a nerd and I want to know what's going on with my body. With Dr. Yap, I didn't have to ask a million questions because he explained everything thoroughly! I had no questions left to ask at the end of the exam. This never happens to me! Thanks for indulging my curiosity! 2. Maureen helped me pick out frames that would hide the thickness of my lenses. I've been wearing glasses for 20 years, and never has anyone been so meticulous! My last pair of glasses are very heavy and they do not hide the thickness of my lenses. Maureen meticulously picked out frames that both fit my small head and would help me disguise my thick lenses. 3. I spend more time looking at books than looking at myself in the mirror. I have no concept of what looks good on me or not. Thus, I relied greatly on Maureen's advice to pick out a suitable pair of glasses. She was a great sport and helped me narrow down my choices. I've only owned one pair before this that I got from kaiser and the doctors there weren't so nice. Coming here I was welcomed by friendly people who were able to help me with everything. I am not too sure on how competitive their prices are compared to what else is on the market but just the service made me want to buy my glasses here. I've been going to UCLA optometry for the past few years since I had insurance through school, but alas real life has happened and I couldn't stay on school insurance anymore. Thankfully this place is very close to my house and they take VSP/FSA. However, I realized after researching on the internet that their regular prices (before insurance is applied) are higher to account for that so it doesn't end up really being cheaper. But this place was convenient, so why not, I guess. Dr. Yap was pretty quick, but I felt like I didn't do all the same tests that I usually did at UCLA, such as the periphery test. He did provide helpful insight into how to fix my eye irritation though. The other staff was really helpful and patient when my boyfriend and I were both picking out glasses (and in my case, contacts) to purchase. It felt like we tried on every frame before making a decision. They also helped us figure out what would be most cost-effective with our insurance. Pro-tip: if you buy a year's worth of contacts, you get 40% off your glasses (which I opted for). Not a bad deal! They were also super accommodating when I requested an email of my invoice for insurance. read more

THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER I came to Eye Q because it's closer to home and had great reviews. My previous optometrist would have me wait 1-2 hours (with an appointment) prior to being seen and it was nearly impossible to book an appointment over the phone (I would always be put on hold then hung up on). I made an appointment online for Eye Q and received a confirmation moments later that I would see Dr. Brian Yap. As soon as I walked in they took my name and moved me into the doctors office. The assistant that took my pressure and glaucoma test was very nice. Dr. Yap followed with a professional eye exam. He really took the time to get to know me and even shared his own stories during a very friendly and genuine conversation. When it came time to decide on contacts, he recommended the Acuvue brand and broke down why he though in his professional opinion they were the highest quality brand. I never felt like he was trying to sell me on anything, but I did know they were the more expensive brand. I decide to try them out for a trial-week period in which Dr. Yap allowed me to use two different versions just so that I made the right choice. Fast forward a week or two, I have my contacts delivered to my home (nice cause I didn't have to go back to pick them up like my previous optometrist). During my appointment I was told that Acuvue offers a $200 rebate when you purchase their brand. I was also given a flyer with a rebate code and instructions on how to submit the rebate request. Well when I got my contacts delivered I realized that I lost the flyer with the code! I call Eye Q and they tell me NO PROBLEM we will give you another flyer if you come down. Amazing. Then when I thought I was in the clear I realize that my receipt is missing information and would not fulfill requirements for the rebate. I call Eye Q again and even before I'm finished explaining why I'm calling, they offer to email my invoice which has all the necessary information. I love you all. Excellent customer service, competitive prices! Since it opened a few years ago, I've always come here for my lenses. And I mean lots of lenses. Currently. I have 4 sunglasses for distance, 4 bifocal/progressive eyeglasses, 2 distance glasses and 2 close up glasses. I literally can't read at all without glasses so I keep lots of back-up at home and in my office. For any minor repairs I needed in any of these glasses, Eye Q never charged me anything, no matter how insistent I am about paying. That's great customer service you seldom see nowadays. I'm writing this review because I believe what I'm about to say needs to be heard. When I first came to get an eye exam I was pleased they did a thorough exam., every one who worked there was very helpfull. After my eye exam,, I was approached by a salesgirl to sell me frames and prescription . I bought 2 pair of reading glasses And glasses fit distance., after receiving them I noticed they were cheaply made, maybe made in China. I payed a lot for them and should have had better quality. I went back several ttimes to have the frames adjusted and again every one was so helpful. I was a little over a year when I noticed the glasses started to smudge and it was getting worse and finally I went back to have them repaired or something and ask to speak to the owner. When the owner examined the glasses he said there was nothing he could do . I would need to buy new glasses . It was over a year and that ended the warranty . I Paid too much for the cheap glasses and frames and to think they didn't care enough to keep a costumer happy. . The smudge was the coating coming off. The frames were a no brand and made cheap. These sales people will tell you anything to sell when most of the time it's all bulls!;:/( . I will never bUy my frames and glasses here ever. They sold me cheap frames glasses. read more

My experience was perfect through and through...my glasses were received quickly and looked great. My customer service experience was a bit unique and no doubt the end result revealed Eye Qs team values an honorable caring approach towards its customer dealings.. My first pair of glasses purchased broke in a way that appeared to be related to manufacturing, however, the break could also have been viewed as the customer's (me ) fault... They sent my glasses to be fixed and gave me a loaner pair. A week later the loaner pair broke the exact same way as the first pair (I was not able to identify why in either case)... The store (not sure who the gentleman was) excepted the second pair back (again, also broken) and gave back my first pair, newly fixed - for free, no questions asked. This was my first review was 5 stars!: "Had gone to Teagle in Glendale for years...I'm devoted to Tony and Sally at Happy Eyes, but the service I received here was terrific Dr. Brian Yap was kind, complete and fast. They saw me when I wanted to be seen, with no significant wait! Alca was super helpful, emailing me my prescription, many months later! Great!" But sadly, the blush is off the the rose. I've referred at least 4 friends who've gone there and become patients and customers. My work is presently very pressured, so I can't come weekdays, and I have not wanted to tie myself to a weekend, because down time is pretty critical to keeping my stress in check. 4 times I've tried to get a last minute appointment. The reception person a few weeks ago took my number, in case they had a cancellation. No offer to fit me. Today, I called, got put on hold, so I just went there. No possibilities, lamely, she tells me I should make a weekday appointment, because they have 2 doctors on weekdays, but just one on Saturday. Oh, none, closed on Sunday. Folks, listen: If you're not busy on weekdays, and can't accommodate an added appointment on your one weekend day, do you think maybe, just maybe, both of the doctors should work Saturday? Crazier, why tell me? Wanted me to feel the burn that you staff down on your high demand days? Worse yet. Do you read Yelp? A 5 star review is gone, replaced with a 2 stars review. Technically good optometry service, that would get better than a 2 star. However poor, unconcerned, unaccommodating customer experience, coupled with zero tracking of your referrals. If you had a clue, the high praise would have held. Mind you, the 4 for sure customers I've sent, I physically took to your store. The total failure, upon my 4th rejection, the young lady says make a weekday appointment, we have 2 CL doctors then. Came here because of all the great reviews on Yelp and was not disappointed. Starting with the exam, Dr. Yap was thorough and personable, answering my many questions and providing great info about my aging eyes. But the real gem of this place are the front office staff. I had a big order -- contacts, three new sets of glasses, and new lenses in old frames -- and I had to go back in on several occasions to make changes. But everyone was always accommodating, answering my questions and meeting my requests without complaint or attitude. And on top of all that, the entire operation is doing a great job of keeping things safe for COVID. I am thrilled to have a new optometrist in my own neighborhood! Dr. Maureen was incredibly helpful in choosing new frames, working out the insurance (it was like calculus!), and making sure I got exactly what I needed. The turnaround was also very fast, for new frames and lenses, as well as replacing lenses in an old pair of sunglasses. I have Eye Med insurance so when I was looking for a place that accepted my insurance, I found Eye Q. I checked them out on Yelp and saw the amazing reviews they'd received - so amazing that I thought maybe they weren't for real (even though I know that Yelp doesn't let that happen). Well, I went there today and can verify that everything these reviews claim is absolutely true!!! Here's what I liked: 1. I called two days ahead and made an appointment - which was fast and easy. When I arrived, they were ready for me so there was no waiting at all. 2. They use state-of-the-art equipment - no air puffs and no dilation (because I opted for the other procedure - it cost $30 but seemed REALLY worth it!). And the equipment that Dr. used was state-of-the-art as well. 3. The Dr. was excellent!! He listened well, asked great questions, explained EVERYTHING thoroughly and clearly. I really felt like I was being treated like an individual - my issues were listened to, my questions were answered, and we came up with a plan together. That's VERY different than my experience with LensCrafters (where I went the last time). 4. I HATE picking out frames! But the woman who helped me was EXCELLENT! She was warm, patient, really helpful, and I ended up purchasing frames that I love! Their selection is great - not huge, but certainly ample. And their prices were reasonable - I chose frames that were more expensive than some of the others I tried on, but it was my choice. I didn't feel ANY pressure to buy expensive frames. Long story short - this place is FABULOUS!!!!! You'll enjoy the experience and walk away a satisfied customer. What more could you ask for??? 4/4/15 update: Although they said my glasses wouldn't be ready for 2-3 weeks, they were ready in 8 days!! And they're fantastic!
