Updated: Dr Thibodeaux had the office call and approved pickup that the guy last week didn't know about. They got me in within a half hour from the first call. New contacts fit well and I'm getting used to the multi vision contacts. Really took great care of me and overcame the bad experience from Friday that was just a misunderstanding. While the actual interaction with the ophthalmologist Dr. Kurica was pleasant enough, I felt the staff unprofessional and the scheduling of appointments severely lacking in customer service. Bathroom was in need of attention. It is a large practice. I wanted to go to the uptown office but because I wanted evaluation for cataracts, I had to go to the Metairie office. I was seen by a technician who wore sweatpants as a uniform. Seriously? She did the refraction. Several times I told her that the images were NOT clear to me. Eyes examined and seen by Dr. Kurica who said I didn't have cataracts. Great. Given an rx and he said, "It's practically the same as your old one; I just tweaked it a bit". Got glasses made at Costco and the rx was WAY off. Costco said there was a BIG difference between previous rx and new one. Definitely not a "tweaking". Tried to get a return appointment for correction and was told I had to see same doctor and got an appointment for 3 weeks later! For second visit, the waiting room was completely packed. Several people in wheelchairs. Was seen by same technician as first time. When I explained my situation she immediately blamed Costco for error. When I pointed out that the rx he gave me was significantly different from my previous rx, in spite of him telling me he only "tweaked it", she said, "Well his idea of tweaking is bigger than our idea of it". ???? Went back to waiting room but it was so crowded I chose to wait in the hall. Looked like a COVID factory in there. My appointment was at 1:45. By 3:00 I still had not seen the doctor. I asked a few times about the delay and was told they were really busy (obviously). Clearly he was over scheduled. Finally I grabbed the doc between exam rooms and told him I'd been there since 1:45. Shortly after I was roomed. Doctor came in and did his own refraction and admitted the technician did it wrong. Gave me new rx. So I had two visits and an afternoon blown because of technician's incompetence. Not to mention time and material wasted by Costco. Now I have to go back and get another pair. I do not recommend this practice. No offense to Dr. Kurica but his staff needs training and improved dress code to look professional, and scheduling needs correction. read more

I made an appointment but didn't realize appointment times here are, at best, a suggestion. Didn't start well when I was told no one could find the online medical history I had done, so I had to do it on paper (you know how those are, always a form they've xeroxed 500 times). No place to sit at a desk or table, so you're forced to fill out forms no one will look at in handwriting no one can read. Office was full when I arrived, a few minutes before my appointment was set to start. One by one the people were called back. My appointment was for 1015, and at 1045 I asked the receptionist how much longer it would be. She said she didn't know but that some people had waited over an hour. Nope. Medical offices must respect the time of their patients too. I told her no thank you and left. The receptionist was stuck. She was perfectly nice and helpful. Not her fault that the practice overbooks and forces patients to wait for ridiculous amounts of time. Time to find another opthamologist. read more

This place was terrible. I came in for eye issues and they dilated me and said everything looks great but wanted to do more testing through my medical insurance. Fine. I get it. The staff was so rude. They charge you $60 if your vision changes. They asked me what my prescription was. I said -5.00 but it's a little weak. They said it's $60 to go up. They wouldn't have even known my prescription if I didn't tell them. How are you gonna charge me more for an annual eye visit when you don't even know my prescription to start with. It was my first time going there. I have severe dry eyes and she gave me nothing for it or nothing on how to fix it. What a waste of my vision insurance. I have never had glasses before but it was time. I searched for the best in the area online and asked my family for a referral. All roads led to Eyecare Associates. I am a new patient. Setting up the appointment was a straight forward experience. I called in and got a receptionist right away. I was given an appointment just days away. It was fortunate considering the next available time was months away. I wanted to be seen as soon as possible and they made that happen for me. I was given great directions on how to get to the office and informed of what to expect upon my arrival. I was calmed down when I was getting anxious. I was encouraged to submit documents online in preparation for the appointment. I submitted all the documents for new patient. The day of the visit I was running late. It was my fault, had a work thing. I arrived 15 minutes after the scheduled appointment time. Before I could ask for mercy it was granted by Ms. Pineda at the front desk. I was handed the new patient forms. I was grateful. I had to refill all the paperwork because it wasn't received. Minor technical issue. Not a big deal. I waited patiently and watched the receptionist treat everyone with respect, care, and urgency. I felt like I was in a place that cares about patients. I was then admitted for testing and quickly got to Dr. Thibodaux. He was great with me. He shared a ton of knowledge with care and made me feel comfortable with the news. I avoided eye dentist before because of prior experiences with healthcare professionals. This more than restored my faith. I am glad I went there. I had laser and cataract surgery 6 months ago. My vision and eyes seem worse now. I was told at my follow up that my eyes looked perfect and that I couldn't have asked for better results. I'm wondering how someone else knows what MY eyes feel like... I had a 6 month post op today. I was told they were short staffed and the room was filled wall to wall.. no phone call, heads up, or anything. Then, I asked if the post op was covered because I was told over the phone that it should be but to ask at the appt.so when I did ask, the receptionist was clueless. She offered no help. I asked if there was an office manager or billing person I could ask. She replied, "no." I clearly saw the office manager sitting in her office. I asked what the purpose of this post op was since I came for a follow up and visited my optometrist since the surgery. No answers. It was a totally wasted trip just to deal with someone at a desk who is completely incompetent. My eyes have not been the same since before surgery. I actually saw better before. There are parts of this practice that are 5-star and parts that are 1-star. I had been coming here for years and have moved and all along have been stalling on this review. On one hand, I really like Rhonda in the contact lens department and appreciate the professionalism of Kevin Kasovich but on the other I absolutely detest the administrative staff on the phones. Dr Kasovich is a lot over the top. Too thorough if it's possible. After awhile I asked that we just go through the full dilation and testing procedures of 3 hours once a year. We struck a deal and 6 months later he tried to do it again. I literally walked out of the waiting room after my regular vision exam I was so disgusted. I will say that he is an excellent doctor and a really nice guy. The phone staff are rude. Just rude. I called to make an appointment once and the person on the phone demanded to know why. I tried to explain that it wasn't my idea and that Dr Kasovich wanted to see me every 6 months. I wish I could have recorded it. She proceeded to give me a hard time about it and hung up on me. I have no idea why. The desk staff are just plain unfriendly. Not a smile, no greeting, nothing. How hard is it? Are you doing me a favor or am I your customer? I can go somewhere else right? I don't know if I can really recommend this place overall. I would have to have found a better place in the New Orleans area and have since left. Maybe this is as good as it gets here. I have gone here for 18 years. I called to get an appointment before the end of the year to get new contacts before my benefit expires, however, there are no appointments available that I can make. The contact lady I spoke with just kept telling me that my prescription was is expired so there is nothing they can do to help me. I get the same prescription every year and I am not having any problems with my vision. I told her I would make an appointment for after the first of the year but want to get contacts now, all she kept saying is my prescription is expired and they could not help me, over and over again. I was referred to Dr. Leni Sumich, for my cataracts and blurred vision by Dr. Leach of St.Charles Vision. I had never seen Dr. Sumich before, although I had been to EyeCare Associates several years ago. The office and surroundings are much more calmer and organized. The young woman processing every one in was very proficient in her work. She greeted everyone kindly, professionally and patiently. I was registered, and called in 20-30 minutes. My nurse was Terrie, she was the most kindest, patient, competent, experienced nurse that I've experienced in a long time. All my test were in sync with the attendant(s), it was like magic. I also had a nurse named Sarah, so gentle and patient. My nurse Terrie knew my white coat anxiety was up, but she kept me focused. All of it went smoothly. I was as happy as a flea in a dog kennel. My nurse Terrie said, Dr. Sumich will be in shortly, he's got a white coat on, but you won't even notice because he is so very nice and a great Doctor.Terrie had ran all the tests, the pressure test, etc, along with all the other test in the testing area. Everything was ready for him. When Dr. Sumich walked in, I didn't even look at his coat, he is a tall handsome glass of water. Of course I made like I had no anxiety at all. (ah didn't want dat ta sho gurl). Dr. Sumich was wonderful, he answered my questions, he put my mind at ease, he explained what it looked like, that was going on with my eye(s) and Dr. Sumich explained to me what we would be doing for the next couple of weeks. I would recommend everyone to see Dr. Sumich for their eye issues at 4324 Veterans Boulevard, Metairie, and to come to the EYECARE Drs there. The staff is really accommodating, patient, and efficient in what their doing. They have the whole process down pat. The place is very clean, and my next visit I'm going to check out the eyeglasses. I really left impressed but foremost I was pleased with "mah docta ya'll" If ah win da lotteree, ahm gonna give Dr. Sumich and Mrs. Sumich a yacht, and Terrie a Land Rover, dat's what ah said, a big one for the whole famalee" Dr. Sumich's bedside manners were perfect and genuine. His experience and successes in ophthalmology are unparalleled to many his age. That helped out for my first visit with him, and for future eye care. I heard very good things about the associates and that was the icing on the cake. don't forget to tell Dr. Sumich that Yelp was where you heard about him. This rating is so low because of the long wait times after checking in for my appointment. My appointment was at 2:30 and I checked in ahead of time and it is almost 3:30 now. People are literally sleeping in the waiting area because of the long wait times. This is infuriating. This company just lost 2 new patients. I brought my daughter in for an exam and the assistant asked if she would like to try a pair of new contacts with a moisturizer in them. My daughter hated them. She wore them for 2 days and had to throw them away and put her old contacts back in. I received a bill from Eye Care Associates for $54. I questioned the bill and the lady on the phone told me I was charged for the fitting of those contacts. Wow, I was charged for the fitting of a trial pair of contacts. My 92 year old mom had an appointment and filled in her paperwork but no one called her because you had to turn in the paperwork before you enter the queue to see the doctor. She has mobility and hearing issues and was unaware that her form wouldn't be collected when they called her, (like at every other doctor's-office,) not required to be turned in before her appointment was recognized. After waiting nearly an hour, I went up and asked what the problem was and was told that her forms hadn't been turned in so she hadn't made the list to be called. Again she's 92, no one followed up, just left her sitting in the lobby waiting. The worst overall experience I've had at a doctors office. You folks need to get your act together and train your people to look at patients as individuals with differing needs. read more

I have been waiting on contact lenses since December 2022, it is now June 2023. One lie after the other. My insurance has fully paid for the lenses and I still cannot get them. First lie was that they were not covered by my insurance that has been paying for my contacts for more than 15 years through VSP. Second, third, forth lie was that the person who issues the lenses was not in the office, even though I am standing in the office and she is sitting at the contact lenses desk. Final lie is that I have to schedule another appointment with the doctor (in 15 years never had to do) in order to get the lenses. Completely incompetent staff. read more

Just an awful experience with billing.. I was a new client who went in October 2023. They took my insurance and I went in for the exam. The exam went fine other than the doctor shaming me for leaving my contacts in too long. No big deal.. Left, paid my co-pay and checked out with the receptionist. Fast forward to January 2024 and I get a bill for $85 texted to me. I did not realize that text bills exist so I thought it was some sort of scam. I called the customer service line who informed me that the bill did indeed exist but they couldn't tell me what it was for - they would look into it and call me back. They never did. Then in March 2024 I received a notification from a DEBT COLLECTOR that I owed $85 from a visit to this Company. I have a near 800 credit score and have never not paid a bill that was due. It was a bit ridiculous that I was sent to collections without an inquiry, phone call, nothing.. Except a little text message that says 'click here' with no description of the bill. I now have to deal with collections. Just unbelievable that a Company would operate this way.. read more

Qualified docs but don't expect to be seen at your appointment time. I have been a patient here (on and off) for 20 years. I am always on time or early for my appointment. Rarely am I called back at my appointment time. More occasion's than not, I wait at least 30 minutes to an hour to be seen. I stopped using Eyecare Associates after too many hours wasted in the waiting room. I went back only because my eyes require special care and I do believe the doctors here are the best I've found but my time is as valuable as theirs. This is my second yearly eye exam/contact fitting and the second time I'm waiting over 6 weeks for trial contacts to arrive. As someone who wears contacts daily for the past 20 years, this is the first doctor who has ever put me in custom lenses that take nearly 2 months to fill. I've been forced to wear the same pair of old contacts with no relief in site and will be stuck with the trial contacts for who knows how long until my actual prescription arrives. I have been going to the Eyecare Associates for several years. Dr Cerise is my doctor and I have been very happy with his care and work. He did Lasix surgery on me then 2 cataracts surgeries all with excellent results. Yesterday, Ms Alma did my preliminary eye tests and dilations. She was very delightful while explaining every step in each procedure. She even apologized that something may sting for a second and for the bright lights when the eye pictures where taken. I had an appointment on February 6th for an annual eye exam. It took an hour and a half and probably would have taken longer had I not had another appointment and told the assistant I had to leave. Today is march 14 and I still have no contact lenses. I originally placed my order through 1-800-contacts. After waiting a week for my contacts to ship I received a notification from 1-800 contacts that they had reached out to my physicians office and that my prescription was incorrect so they canceled the order. At this point I called the office to find out instead of canceling the order, why wouldn't they just give the correct prescription to the company. At that point I asked the person at Eyecare associates to place the order through them. She quoted me over $800 for a 3 month supply of contacts. I said that is too expensive can you please order my Acuvue lenses which were a better value. She said yes they will be here in a week. I called after a week and left a voicemail for Ashley, a couple hours later heard nothing back. So I drove over there, Ashley was out of the office and I was told my contacts would be in today. I drove to the office today and was handed one pack for my left eye only and it was the original contacts that I declined due to the price. I was then told that they only had my lenses for my left eye and they would have to order the ones for my right eye. I asked for trial lenses and was told they don't have them. I stood at the desk to order the correct lenses only to be told that my lenses are discontinued. I asked for a different brand or type of lense and then was told if I wanted to do that I would need to see the MD again. At that point I said forget it, I will figure it out on my own and walked out. Called the office when I left to get connected to the office manager (Claire) who was in a meeting at 1:30. Called back at 3:45 to be told that she had received my message but had left for the day and she will return my call in the morning. To say I'm frustrated would be an understatement. Really poor customer service ! I was disconnected three times trying to get through . The woman that answered which wouldn't give her name - told her I had Humana insurance and they said to call back when i find out what type of vision coverage I have . I called my insurance which Humana has I have eye Med vision coverage - when I tried to call back I was disconnected again two times . The person that answered the phone answered "hello" - I had to ask them if this was Eye care associates ? - they said oh yeah . - this should've been a sign for me right from the beginning that this was not a good Doctors office - when I finally got through to the appointment receptionist I told them I was covered through Humana and Had eye med vision - they were more concerned about getting my name address and telephone number ? when I asked her after the exam if I could just get a copy of my prescription they told me no - it would cost me $30 This is a free exam under my insurance ? This covered under Medicare yet they say it's going to call cost me $30 for them to write me a prescription even though the exam is free ? this place is a rip off one star is too much !!! The Doctor only signed my Prescription, I spoke briefly with him after examination by a Technician. Then I had the Glasses made at The Lookinglass Eyeware, which is part of their Business at 4324 Veterans Dr. Then waited two weeks for the Glasses to Arrive. When I went to Pick my new Glasses I found that my Vision Problem in my left eye was NOT corrected. I went Originally to have the Vision Problem in my left eye corrected. My left eye PROBLEM was still resident, Blurred vision and unable to see clearly. The Dispensing Optician told me to " Wear Them a few days" and then we will Evaluate the problem. I questioned this course of action and was told to try it anyway to see if my Left eye vision Improved. After a week my Vision Problem was the same or worse. I returned to the LookingGlass business and told Optition the Problem was still resident in my left eye and she took my glasses and when she returned in a few minutes she had a copy of my Prescription and told me to go back to Eyecare, ( Same Building) and tell them my PROBLEM. WHAT????? So I went back into the Eyecare office and told the Reception person who I was and why i was there. She informed me that it would be 16 days before I could see the Doctor. I lost my COOL, I demanded Immediate attention, after all, It should have been correct the first time. No sympathy, only the Ignorance of my Situation. They held firm on the Appointment schedule. I FAIL TO SEE THE LOGIC HERE. I just spent SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR EYEGLASSES THAT DON'T WORK, YES $700.00 . WHAT, again WHAT????? STATUS QUO. Receptionist should not have this kind of Authority. Unfortunately, there is no higher Authority to report this DEBACLE TOO. DOCTORS ANSWER TO NO ONE. I'm Seven Hundred Bucks Poorer, and still CAN'T see clearly from my left eye. I have attended this place for a extreme long time now for Dr. McGinn. I love it. The staff is friendly and always (I mean always) helpful and accommodating. They are extremely professional and have early morning appointments for people like me. I am always in and out at this center.n The doctor is wonderful, my eyes are horrible! Since I been going here the doctor has helped to keep my eyes stable and from getting any worst, so thats a big deal in my book. They also have a great selection of eye glasses and they always seem to have my prescription in stock for my contacts and they are beyond reasonably priced center. I recently went to Eyecare Associates for an emergency visit. I was in the ER the night bf with a pain behind my eye in my head. Everything in the ER checked out ok. EA were able to fit me in with Dr. Stumpf the next morning to see more in depth with what was causing my problem. A week later I was fine! Dr. Stumpf and the whole staff were all so helpful, that I decided to go back for my yearly contact exam. Dr. Stumpf immediately remembered me and asked how I was feeling and I really appreciated that! I have been seeing Dr. Stumpf since 1992. It's when I started wearing contacts. I have the utmost respect for this group as they are always professional and caring with your concerns and eyecare you receive. My husband sees Dr. Landry as he can't wear contacts and has worn glasses since he was a teenager. That's when he had a eye ingury. Four years ago Dr. Landry performed cataract surgery and instead of three pairs of glasses he now wears only reading glasses. His distance was completely restored and only wears sunglasses to drive. In a world full of 15-minute turn and burn doctor visits, his office and he himself put so much personalized care into my visit. You could not ask for a friendlier staff or a more dedicated medical professional. The optometrist that saw me first was so sweet and gave reasons for every action, she was extremely helpful and explained every step of the process! Went in end of June 2020. They have the WORST practices health medical precautions for COVID19 of any health care provider I have been to this year. Metarie restaurants do much much more than they do. The waiting rooms are both packed jammed standing room (main and secondary) NO social distancing at all. NO gloves. Some staff only had masks partially on and 1 staff in eyeglasses store wore NO mask at all. You brush up against patients and staff in halls, they ONLY use to those little alcohol swaps to wipe of the equipment where other patients had their faces, chin, and eyes in contact, NO evidence they wipe of the arms or seats of examine chairs. Primary Doctors take calls and other consults during final exam and review of initial exams, images. They showed no evidence of sanitizing hands after handling cell phones or leaving exam room. I give 2 stars for the overall flow and process of a full exam from check-in, eye test, images, etc., then a reasonable wait time to finally see the Dr. The staff are very very nice and professional! read more

As a patient for over 10 years, I was concerned about a recent change in my vision and was able to quickly get an appointment at a convenient time the very next day. Very efficient office with caring and very professional staff quickly got me through testing and consult and exam with Dr. Stumpf. He suggested I see a Retinal Specialist for a more comprehensive exam. Dr. Stumpf's staff was able to get me an appointment the very next day with one of their Retinal doctors, Dr. Ta. Had it not been 5:15, they would have sent me to one of their retinal docs the same day! At least 11 of our friends and family members have had Lasik and cataract surgery at EyeCare Associates and all are very happy with their improved vision and final outcomes! Eye appointment was in November of last year. Contacts were ordered in late December but did not physically pick them up until January. Their insurance department didn't charge my insurance until January which used up my benefits for that year instead of the previous year. Never was it disclosed that this is their policy and only discovered what they did in November of this year when my insurance wouldn't cover my prescription. At this point was told it was too late to fix. $150 down the drain and not even an apology. read more
