Dr. Smith was great (I guess). He saved our lives from a pack of rabid seagulls. It was a really close call but Dr. Smith swooped in to save the day.. just in time. He kept talking about hominy which we thought was kind of odd. He also made us look at a picture of soup.. not sure if that was a part of the exam or not. Exam was littered with dad jokes. I had eye exam and then order my glasses. First thing I asked for was anti glare, (something I always request) also added transition, (was told they go dark), and progressive. Once at home tried both pairs of glasses: they did not have anti glare and the transition was a light grey. Progressive too low. Called it in and was told an upcharge for anti glare! What they forgot to add, charging me double. Also was told at arrival that tradition with progressive only go this light grey, something Karen the rep did not share. I then requested to cancel my progressive and the transition and only get my single vision and anti glee since they got it wrong the first time. Monesha said she speak to her manager to see about the $75x2 to add the antiglare. I said if they charge me double cancel my order on the progressive. She said to give her a day or two to get back with me. So I'll post what comes next, I've been coming to this same spot for over 15 years read more

Very disappointed that after four weeks I still do not have my glasses and that the manager is less than kind when she does return my call. I have to continued to call there and was informed 10 days as the initial wait time. It has been 32 and I still do not have the glasses. This place is a total crap show. A big scam is what it is. They play off of peoples stupidity. polycarbonate lenses are UV proof but these scum bags will try to sell you a UV treatment for your poly lenses. As a former employee who was fired from this place let me explain by you should avoid this business. First let me be honest, I was the lab manager at this location. I was fired for calling the head lab manager a cry baby, I'll get to that in a bit. Eyecare Express will rip you off in one or a few other ways. Let me make a list. 1: The company offers a "Buy One Get One Free" deal. Sure that sounds great, however most of not all frames are $99 or higher. However if you look up those frames on the manufacturers website you'll find out they're around $40 for most. I understand markup but not by 300%. They lure you in for what they butter up as a great deal but you are paying for buying the two frames for a price that doesn't even match the one. Example, they sell a Haggar H250 frame for $139 however, in the manufacturers website it is priced at $41.50 2: If you purchase polycarbonate as your lens material, you might have a chance of getting ripped off. Let me explain that Polycarbonate is a lighter material, shatter resistant, 100% UV proof, etc. There have been many times I have seen a ticket where the customer had ordered and purchased poly but the opticians would pull plastic lenses for them which don't share the same benefits as poly. Understand, the company has to order poly lenses from an outside source and arrival can take up to a week. However this does not justify this amount of deceit. If you purchased Poly lenses from here and are worried you were ripped off, you can test them in a few ways to verify that they're exactly what you ordered. * When water hits the poly material, it will bead up and drip off kind of like rain on a freshly sprayed windshield. * If you can manage to take the lens out of the frame and drop it on a table about 6" from the surface, poly will make almost a high pitch ping sound like a coin. Plastic will make a softer thud like sound. * If you take your glasses to another optical business with a lab, chances are they will have a photometer (measures UV transmission through the lens) Eyemart Express has one of these tools. Poly lenses should read 0% -5% depending on the age of the lenses. 3: If you purchased a UV treatment for your lenses, you were ripped off. UV treatment is for plastic lenses only (Again, Poly is 100% UV proof) The process for UV treating a plastic lenses is to have it soak in a hot vat of a UV(sometimes scratch resistant) solution until the lens reads 4% or lower UV transmission. I am here to tell you that the company does not do this service even though they will sell it to you. And a few times I've seen people order this with Poly lenses which again, are already 100% UV proof. In fact m, the lab at this store doesn't have a photometer to measure the rating. I was told by the store manager that the lenses already have the UV treatment in them. Well if that's the case then why do they sell it as an add on? If you ever had plans on possibly working here, don't. Management exercises horrendous leadership skills and can't handle the slightest amount of stress. My boss (Jake) was a prime example of this. This guy would not show you how things were done within this company and then would attempt to do everything himself and then throw a tantrum if you didn't get these things done. You can't do thing you don't teach your people how to do buddy. The lack of organization at this company is astounding. In the lab there was trash and miscellaneous junk all over. Parts, supplies, and equipment would be purchased and then just tossed aside to collect dust and be in the way. I was astonished that my former lab crew didn't know even the simple basics of preventative maintenance or proper cleaning of the lab equipment. They would tell me they were never taught which judging by the horrible management and leadership, I believe them. The VP of marketing was a great guy however, I wish him the best of luck. read more

After happily going to Eyecare Express, South Bend for over 20 yrs, i am sad to say they have not fulfilled their website promise to treat customers like family. I ordered 2 pair of glasses over 6 months ago, but they were unable to provide me with glasses that had satisfactory vision, and me feeling they were so distorted as to be unsafe, they've refused to refund my money. Some of the staff tried to be helpful, some were snippy, but after trying to get Natacia (manager) to answer phone calls and emails for months, I picked up the frames I had ordered to recoup at least some of my losses. read more

Let me just say that the customer service here is amazing! I went on vacation without an extra pair of contact lenses (BIG mistake!) I ended up destroying one of my lenses in my case and my glasses are less than adequate for daily use. I called and spoke with Jenny about my prescription and she said that she would certainly speak to any vision care center that could fill my prescription and provide them with the details. Unfortunately, because my prescription was so strong, no one had the strength that I needed on hand. Jenny went the extra step and sent (2) trial pairs to me to help me out! FRAUD ALERT - PATIENT SAFETY HAZARD AND RIP-OFFS I am now a former employee at Eyecare Express due to being fired because I caught them red-handed selling polycarbonate lenses as plastic. I have worked in eyecare for 2 years at other places and know optics up, down, left, and right. I used to work as an optics lab tech at one place for one year and tried another optical place for another year for both an optics lab tech as well worked in the doctors office. At Eyecare Express I was hired in as an optics lab tech. I caught them red-handed selling polycarbonate lenses as plastic. Polycarbonate lenses to begin with is more money for patients. Also, polycarbonate is safe for children (due to roughhousing and activity), for elderly (fall hazards), and required for safety glasses due to strong shatter resistance. Poly also has UV protection that plastic lacks. As well other benefits such as being lightweight. Plastic lenses are thicker and heavier and shatter easily and if it were to shatter it can blind a person. It offers no UV protection. I was making a safety pair and noticed the lenses were plastic despite being labeled as Poly. The patient paid for poly yet the lenses were plastic. Let alone, again, was a safety pair. I went to the lab manager and asked about it and she said that they run poly as plastic often and that it isn't a big deal. Then I talked to the sales associate and they also confirmed that they sell poly as plastic. I explained to them what I stated above why this is unsafe, fraud, and let alone highly illegal and a danger to patients. They didn't care and called the district lab manager, Jake, and he called me. He claimed I yelled at the associates (which is untrue) and that I was fired. I told him about all of this yet he denied the claims. I told him that I was fired because of my catching them and he lied about me causing problems when I was never in trouble before. We argued over the phone and I told him I'll be reporting them and he mocked me saying who could I even tell. Well, I'll figure it out. Starting here to warn patients. The store manager also lied saying patients cannot afford a polycarbonate upgrade for lenses thinking I'm an idiot. Oh honey, I've worked in optics for 2 years and polycarbonate is the most popular material for lenses. I care for patient safety given I worked with patients before. I take my job seriously as an optics lab tech and want to provide care for people. But this is wrong on all levels. Edit: btw they do sell polycarbonate but only limited with certain prescriptions and not with bifocals, trifocals, or progressives. Nor with very high power lenses. This is due to there are pre-made lenses made out-of-lab that they get but it's highly limited. So most polycarbonate orders are faked and are actually plastic. read more

These are by far the cheapest lenses I have ever had. This place sucks. The manager berates customers when they have a complaint. She simply can't do her job. If she's still there. I give this place 0 stars. First of all I came in for a FREE eye exam(for glasses) they gave me a contacts exam which is $109. After the exam they gave me a pair of trial contacts while my glasses are being prepared. I could not see out of the contacts so I left with one new contact and one old contact. I was told to come back the next day and I would get the right exam by a different doctor and a refund for the exam that I did not ask for or have written in my paperwork. Here it is a day later and a hour later I am still waiting for the doctor to arrive and When I asked about the refund I was told that because I went through with they exam I couldn't be refunded (even though I didn't know I was having a font exam). read more

I would give this place ZERO stars if I could!!! We paid over $600 for glasses for my daughter and I in March. Here it is October and I had to bring back her glasses for the second time because the anti glare coating that we paid for has come up!! They blamed our daughter for the first time saying she was cleaning her glasses with her shirts. We made sure she only used glasses cleaning wipes since then. I demanded our money back but they would not do that. It's been too long I was told. This place is an absolute rip off, has HORRIBLE customer service and even worse quality of products!!! This place has the worst customer service ever! Their glasses are not well made at all. My husband and I both got glasses there. When we picked his up they were to small for his face and the first pair broke within a day! They fixed that mistake but would not do anything when the glasses came apart on the bifocal seam. I also got glasses there. The frames keep coming loose where the screw attaches the arm and the lens were not cut properly to stay in the frame. The employees see nothing wrong with them though! Save your money and time and go elsewhere. We got better service and higher quality frames at Walmart! read more

Very poor customer service. My wife and I both made appointments and were there early. The customer service associates continued gossiping and chatting a good 10 minutes before they even acknowledged us. Then put off giving us our paperwork until 10 minutes after our appointment should have started. We were The first appointments of the day? The doctor had to come out and get things going, it was odd. After appointment we sat for 20 minutes before someone tried selling us on glasses...we were waiting on our contacts. Through all of this my wife still wanted to update her existing lenses. Well one month later and she has nothing... No new contacts, no new lenses, still in the wrong prescription that she was in when we set out on our first journey to this terribly ran store almost 4 weeks ago. We have been told twice that her contacts would be ordered and both times they weren't there. Twice now there machine is broken that fixes frames and they are fixing it tomorrow? This place is full of excuses and I would recommend steering clear if you want service in this lifetime. Dr. Bartlett was filling in that day and he was awesome!! One good thing that came from this horrible experience is my wife and I found and eye doctor we like. Hopefully his office has better service. read more
